Pros: Fab location with awesome views. Interesting building and very nice to look around the whole area. Minimal restaurant menu, but cooked to perfection both nights. Very friendly staff and can not recommend highly enough. Dodgy road to get to in small parts, but worth it. Could do with a little work, but didn’t put me off at all. They got gin n bitter lemon
Cons: It’s different! I’m from the UK and it’s what we would call quaint, cosy and welcoming. Liked everything
Pros: An outstanding view from the room and the restaurant. Lovely meal. Great value for money.
Cons: Driving up the steep, uneven, drive in an ordinary car.
Pros: Jules, the owner, is very nice! The place is beautifully located with plenty of nature around, a stunning view and cute but naughty monkeys who want your food (watch out for them!). We had a good breakfast. I also liked the dogs who followed us during our walk on the beach, they were very well behaving.
Cons: Unfortunately, we left after the first night. There was a loud party outside (the community is fighting it) but we had to get through there several times and were advised to only do it by car.. Although the view is really stunning, our room itself wasn't what I expected.. for the price we paid I just hoped for more.. it smelled a little like an old, wet building and it wasn't that clean. We slept okay but I just didn't feel too comfortable. Also Port st Johns is really no tourist area. If you're escaping that then it's the perfect place but I don't know.. We didn't really feel like we were wanted in that area... Also the restaurant of the retreat is not open on Sundays! Basically we had to get through that big party again to find food at the backpackers down the road.. at least there were some people.. We were the only guests in the delicious monster retreat..
Pros: Wow! the location and the views, the food was also good and all staff friendly and helpful. Special requests fulfilled with a smile.
Cons: A little touch of paint and matching bedding would have got it a 10.
Pros: Very Nice view from the balkony of the big house were the rooms are in. Nice rooms and Nice host, good breakfast..
Cons: Only a bath and no shower but further very good. Unfortunately we couldn’t try the diner because On sunday the restaurant is closed
Pros: This is a very groovy place to stay. Took me back to California circa 1969 - a real experience. I would like to stay here if I were writing a novel. A true get away from it all place in an incredible idyllic setting just a block up from the beach - but it could have been on a desert island.
Cons: It is quite a ways out of town and you have to drive through a bit of a township to get there; but once you do it is worth it. The second bed in the loft was too short for my adult male colleague to have a restful night's sleep.
Pros: Yes it was
Pros: This is a little piece of paradise!
Pros: Really idyllic, quiet spot. Good food, nice people. We really enjoyed our stay. The room and bathroom were really clean, but you shouldn't be superpicky about cleanliness as this is a place on a beach which always comes with a bit of patina.
Cons: Kitchen, living room and terrace are shared between the 3 rooms. When people get up early and start making breakfast you will also wake up for sure.
Pros: Set in a beautiful location, with an awesome deck and restaurant. What's not to like!
Located in Port St Johns, N'taba River Lodge is by the ocean, within a 15-minute drive of Mzimvubu River Park and Second Beach. Featured amenities include dry cleaning/laundry services, luggage storage, and laundry facilities. Free self parking is available onsite.
Pros: Excellent location , wonderful owner and staff, excellent food
Pros: We had a 1 night stay ay this property. Lodge has a really nice territory with mountain view and a lot of places to relax and watch the stars. Our room was huge (I would say too huge for that amount of furniture in it). Shower worked well, bed was super comfortable. I also like a terrace near our room. Breakfast was also very well done and served. To go to the beach you have to drive around 15 minutes. The surroundings are beautiful, a lot of spots for hiking (beach, river mouth, mountains ...)
Cons: The room could be designed better: a lot of free space pairing with super tall ceilings looked a little bit weird for us.
Pros: such a scenic location on the river- felt like miles away from the chaotic busy city of Port St John. Beautifully decorated and very peaceful
Cons: Room was a little tight, and the beds were more firm than I like
Pros: Everything was awesome!
Pros: Breakfast excellent Liked the Balinese Feeling Great Massage
Pros: Beautiful location reminds one of Thailand very comfy
Pros: Perfect location, the comfort and peace of mind. Friendly staff. Also enjoyed the breakfast.
Cons: Remote controls for the gate aren't given to guests. I found that very restricting. There's poor signal in the area, and their WiFi is only available at one selected area.
Pros: Yes excellent. Break fast was for for a king
Cons: Nothing at all. Everthing was superb
Pros: Everything is fine.
Pros: First class service. Loved my stay therexxDi Tanner
Located in Port St Johns, Amapondo Backpackers is by the ocean, a 1-minute drive from Second Beach and 9 minutes from Mzimvubu River Park. Featured amenities include multilingual staff and laundry facilities. Free self parking is available onsite.
Cons: Service was poor no hot water and no gas to cook our food Place was not ready on arrival We had to leave 1 day early
Pros: The location is amazing. The beach view. The bar. The showers. The spacious rooms.
Cons: The dogs
Pros: The view from the Crystal House was good.
Cons: The restaurant was not inviting so we used other restaurants in the area. There was loud music in the daytime at several occations. We wanted to do organized tours but ended up touring the area on our own.
Pros: Nice location a little secluded from town, walking distance to the beach; relaxed atmosphere; they offered tours
Pros: Very close to second beach and was nice because the friendly dogs join us to a quick walk ;-)
Cons: Showers where. Not in good condition.
Pros: The staff was great and really friendly
Cons: The rooms weren’t really that clean. I found some food rests in the room together with mice feces
Pros: It is near to the sea and waking up to the sound of it was awesome!
Cons: The serving time of the food was a bit long.
Offering an outdoor pool, barbecue and terrace, Jungle Monkey Backpackers is located in Port Saint John’s. Free private parking is available on site. Certain rooms have views of the mountain or pool. All rooms include a shared bathroom. Jungle Monkey Backpackers features free WiFi. You will find a shared kitchen at the property.
Pros: The place had the decor and there were very quiet sitting rooms Bar available for fun Well equipped common kitchen
Cons: The tent where we stayed''mountein view` had no mosquito net Mattress appeared to be heavily used should change The tent lock was broken and insects could enter There is no lock to close There were no towels available for the bath and we had to ask The wi fi was non existent in the tent we were in There were, however, more positives than negatives
Pros: Helpfulness of Wayne.
Cons: Waited a while for tea to be served - although there was no other people to be served. No dishwash to wash the dishes and some customers did not wash their dishes.
Pros: Given that there are almost no other budget stay options around, it was a good hostel with a decent bar selection and good breakfast eggs.
Cons: The triple room was pretty cramped, and the folks visiting the bar at night were a little shady. Also, the hostel was located a couple blocks away from the main street so it made walking out to get dinner a little dicey and there are no ubers. Also, don't order the breakfast parfait for breakfast.
Pros: The rooms are clean
Cons: The covers are old and barthrooms are far
Cons: Prices were incorrect. First told no booking. Rates were R150 more per day. Booked out after first day. We're told we gave different name. Made us pay double. We manage to find other accomodation
Pros: Amazing view, friendly staff, pretty nice kitchen for a hostel. Good advices and recommendations from staff.
Cons: There was no hot water in the morning to shower.
Pros: We stayed at a separate room, the Monkey View, that had a nice view and a cosy balcony. We loved the outdoor shower under the Moon light. Oh, and the fillet steak at the bar/restaurant was amazing at a very reasonable price!
Pros: The food was fine but their is only one person in the kitchen so sometimes cold
Cons: Rowdiness of some of the guests after hours and no control
Pros: The position is out of this world! The Lodge is situated on top of the most glorious beach cove I have ever seen!
Pros: The view from the room is beautiful.
Cons: Our room did not have a private bathroom, it is however a shared bathroom in the house with other people. Our room had two doors one leading outside, and another connecting to the rest of the house, which couldn't lock, which I feel isn't acceptable.
Pros: No frills, but the most gorgeous view makes up for any lack of luxury and Kat and Mike are lovely people. Stay for the breakfast on the patio... Amazing!!!
Pros: The Location, Kat the owner - she's GREAT and made our 1 night stay excellent. The rooms are basic and not luxurious, but there is a sense of calmness and you feel totally relaxed. Private beach right in front of the house and lovely homely feeling. Restaurant just a few metres walk away and the feeling of community...Just great - we loved it.
Cons: That we had to leave....
Pros: Friendly hosts.
Cons: Place was, durty and very run down. Had 2 shabeens in very close proximity. Noise till early mornings. Electricity kept tripping and fridge in room not working.
Cons: Being welcomed by the dog. Loud music from the street party whole night. No peaceful sleep.
Pros: The beach view.the fishing spot.
Cons: The facility at lodge.very dirty .kitchen dirty.no microwave. No proper braai area
Pros: Rustic living place to stay but the view makes up for everything!
Cons: Time to upgrade linen
Pros: Great beach front location...
Cons: The misrepresentation between the advert and the actual facilities.. No en-suite.. Double room was a twin, dusty overhead fan.. Dirty kitchen and fridges... Dodgy surroundings..
Pros: Beautiful view from the patio.
Cons: I felt so unsafe in the area. There were people drinking and partying in the roads just before the entrance to the lodge. The place is very run down. Definitely a misrepresentation of the ad on booking. com in contrast with the actual place. I was not prepared to sleep there so had to book at another place.. The Ntaba River Lodge.. We were so thankfull for the rooms so late..
