Pros: Excellent Breakfast! Incredibly friendly and helpful staff. Extraordinary location directly in the village yet only 3 minutes from the trails along the cliffs. Fantastic value for the money. The bed was comfy, the room was *very* quiet and peaceful, and the place is extremely clean and orderly, with a good balance between modern and charming décor. It is a humble family business, but very authentic and comfortable. Cannot emphasise enough how pleasant and helpful the owners are! Can't wait to go back!
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Clean, nice breakfast and very friendly staff even though they did not speak english.
Cons: The room was very small (suggestion to the pension's owners: the two armchairs are not necessary and only occupy space) so there was little space for our luggages and stuff. Internet connection was bad

7.9 Good
Pros: It was an excellent experience - staying in the castle. We enjoyed the dinner and the surroundings as well.
Cons: Not having TV in the castle is fine. Not having wifi would also be OK. But if wifi is being offered, it should work in all rooms. We did not have it in one of the two rooms.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We came with 2 kids, the knights theme was authentic and real, we where almost alone as out of season, so this was even more special visit

8.3 Excellent
Pros: View It‘s a castle! Evening drinks at fireplace. Funny guided tour. Helpful waiter
Cons: No flexibility in providing vegan breakfast- even after request sent months in advance all I could get was soy drink. Also the one vegan dish at dinner was a bit boring and overpriced.
7.9 Good
Pros: Good selection for breakfast. Location is good to travel to Bayreuth.
6.3 Good
Pros: Bed was comfortable and I took advantage of the bath in the bathroom.
Cons: Staff was not very friendly or informative. I was not able to eat breakfast the first day because I had to be out at 7 and breakfast didn’t start until 8. I didn’t know until check out that I paid for both breakfasts since I didn’t let them know I wouldn’t be eating the first morning. I also tried to check out at 7am the second morning and was told that no one would be there until 8am so I would have to wait. There was not very good service even with the WiFi.

Hotel-Restaurant Forellenhof - Pottenstein - Bedroom

8.5 Excellent (354 reviews)
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The Apartment was really very clean and the breakfast was a pleasant surprise for us. Stuff is very friendly and helpful. We can warmly recommend this property for a short stay with a family.
7.9 Good
Pros: Location
Cons: Breakfast
9.2 Excellent
Pros: The Forellenhof is an a cluster of hotels, that unfortunately do not match the franconian beauty town of Pottenstein. However, the rooms are in top shape: My room was spacious, spotless and recently renovated. This was a great deal for the money! I stayed there in the down season, so the restaurant downstairs closed early, just like a lot of other businesses in town.
7.5 Good
Pros: My stay in the hotel was good and the personnel was very friendly. Nice and clean rooms, very quit. Dinner was very good, especially the 'Forelle alt Frankische'
9.2 Excellent
Pros: The friendly and truly helpful attitude of the owner is something really valuable. The apartment is very clean. It is fantastic and quiet location. Breakfast with all you need to feel that you eat as good as at home. In summary: This is good and quality accommodation.
Cons: The frame of one bed was slightly noisy when we sleep. Probably some small maintenance would make this problem solved. The rest was just fine.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The staff were very friendly. The food at the restaurant was delicious! We are looking forward to another stay here.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Room was big and comfortable. Very nice staff. Internet without any issues. Location is very good. Food in restaurant also very good. I stayed there for 1 night and was pretty happy during stay.
Cons: I think just the price for room and prices in restaurant were little too high but that all.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Friendly and welcoming hotel in an excellent location for exploring the region (cave, castle, summer toboggan runs and some great walks all on the doorstep). Breakfast is a your standard German rolls, cured meats, cheese and jams, but a good version of what it is, and the staff are happy to tweak the odd thing or provide a refill of coffee where desired. The restaurant, as the name would suggest, is great for trout.
Cons: Only one minor complaint: The pillows were enormous beasts which were hard to arrange comfortably. Franconian cuisine is archetypically German meat and potatoes - there are good (and bad) local eateries, but you'll need to drive if you want variety.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: We were very pleased with our stay at the Forellenhof. Our room was large, attractive and well-equipped. In addition the view from the large balcony was wonderful, and our room was quiet. Management and staff were all very helpful and were friendly as well. Breakfast was plentiful, well-organized and relaxed and included a good range of fresh fruit and "Brötchen".
Cons: Pottenstein is certainly not a Franken Cannes or Positano, but it is a pleasant town in an attractive area -- an excellent base for walking in the forests or visiting Bayreuth and other towns.

8.3 Excellent
Pros: Centrally located in Pottenstein. Quiet and reasonably clean room. Very efficient and powerful heating, which made it easy to get a nice, warm temperature in the room. Internet worked well in the room itself (but not at all in the restaurant on the ground floor). Friendly staff. The breakfast was great value for the additional money (5€)! It was rich and e.g. boiled eggs, ham, cheese and fresh fruits were served. On the Sunday there was even an option to have scrambled or fried eggs. The host continuously re-filled the dishes during the breakfast time.
Cons: Furniture and equipment in the room worked perfectly well, but it was evident that the last renovation did not happen recently. The bathroom was on the small side.
6.3 Good
Pros: As mentioned above, size of rooms, balcony, surrounding, easy access to the city center.
Cons: The owner/staff could not communicate in English and understood nothing. It is difficult for a visitor from outside Germany. Breakfast is very ordinary.
