Offering rustic rooms overlooking El Bierzo Valley, this charming hotel is set in the village of Orellán, 3 km from Las Médulas. It has a restaurant serving local food of the area as well as cuisine inspired by ancient Roman recipes. Each bright room at O Palleiro do Pe do Forno has heating, free Wi-Fi and a private bathroom. Rooms open onto an exterior hallway, which overlooks the valley. The restaurant offers lovely views of Las Médulas' striking mountains. The historic site of Las Médulas includes former goldmines and has been named a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Ponferrada is a 30-minute drive from the Palleiro do Forno. León is 130 km away.
Pros: This property is in small village of Orellan. We stayed in this charming place for two nights. This area's main attraction, Las Medulas (Roman gold-mining site), was only 30-minute walk, actually, located on the other side of the mountain. Breathtaking views from the mirador and trails! There are not enough words to describe the tranquility of this valley when the day crowd leaves the mirador and you literally can hear the dogs barking in the remote village across the valley! (Or in the morning rooster's songs!) We cannot thank enough the owner/manager Isabelle for her hospitality. The room was immaculately clean and cozy, dinners were just perfect and delicious - rare chance for us to enjoy authentic local cuisine! We had to leave earlier the last morning, and found a bag with fresh bread at our doorstep. We wish you, Isabelle, good luck. Thank you!
Pros: Owner was fantastic we loved it
Pros: Isabel was very helpful with advice on how to enjoy Las Médulas. Food was imaginative and wholesome. Room was pleasant. Both o Palleiro and Las Médulas were unexpected treats.
Pros: We arrived in a rainstorm to a warm welcome and a warm room. The hotel is set up a short drive above the village road so it was quiet. We ate supper (local cheeses, Roman pork, chestnut pudding) and breakfast next door in a converted barn, roofed with timber and heavy local slates. Our host, Isabella, spoke fluent English and French and had grown up in the village. She spoke enthusiastically about the Las Medulas area, giving us a map and suggestions for our visit. What the Romans had done to a mountain in their search for gold was amazing and had left a spectacular landscape which we saw from excellent viewing platforms up the road from the hotel.
Cons: We would not have changed anything.
Pros: From the minute we arrived we were made feel so welcome. Isabelle is a lovely lady and exceptional hostess. We were offered lunch on arrival. Delicious home cooked food the likes of which one would pay dearly for in a city restaurant. We were given very detailed information and maps etc on how to explore the local area. Within an hour of arriving we were experiencing first hand the spectacular vistas of Las Médulas. An unbelievable area. Dinner that night was delicious. All home cooked. (I recommend the venison). We had lovely local wine. Our room was perfect and exceptionally clean. The shower was one of the best we have ever experienced in a hotel. And when we went to pay, we could not believe the excellent value. We very rarely give 10 out of 10 but in this case it was very well deserved.
Cons: There was nothing we didn't like
Pros: Isabel is a very kind owner. She gaved us very good informations about the Las Medulas and other Sightseeings. The breakfast and the dinner was very good. Isabel showed us typical food from the region. The room was very lovely and comfort. I love the shower! If we ever go back to this region, we would again sleep in this nice place! We can absolutly recommend this house!
Pros: Great food at great price. Delicious coffee. Very Clean. And lots of laugh. Wonderfull place. Isabel and her husband created place to relax and fun. Delicious freshly cooked meales at more than reasonable price. Thank You both for all our stay.
Cons: That we had to leave such a unique place.
Pros: The owners were fantastic nothing is too much trouble for them. The meals were great. We were able to park close by. Loved the place
Pros: The most friendly and welcoming host who couldn't have been more helpful. Excellent home-cooked food. Great value for money. Lovely relaxing atmosphere. Superbly located for walks in the nearby hills. The only sound at night was the owls in the woods across the road.
Pros: The owner is one of the most courteous and helpful people ever. She loves cooking - and it shows in each mouthful. Excellent directions on how to see Las Medulas to its best advantage.
Cons: My only wish is that I could have washed and dried my walking clothes but that was my only issue.
It is a typical farm house restored with materials from the area (stone, Slate, wood.) has a living room with fireplace, TV, kitchen. The rooms all with bathroom, and has side restaurant serving breakfast, lunch and dinner. The House has BBQ outdoor terrace to make your meat and wood oven
Cons: The food was terrible. The chicken and fries were cold and the breakfast was minimalistic (bread and butter)
Pros: the place is charming. the rooms are small and basic but totally new and spotless. the view of a wall from out wondow was a bit disappointing. the breakfast was typical huge toast, fresh juice and coffee. i would definitely go back but make sure dinner is booked or eat before arrival.
Cons: orellan is a lovely, tiny village. its perfect for visiting the mirador and mine but at night it is dead. we arrived at 9pm, checked in but no dinner available so had to go to las medulas village only to find all the restaurants there were also closed for the night. we had a beer.
Pros: House with very nice traditional atmosphere, with very good location very near to the view of Las Medulas. Simple, but very good breakfast and easy parking in front of the house.
Cons: Room could be bigger with more light and better sound isolation
Pros: The room and restaurant are cosy and clean. The staff was helpful. The room and bathroom are simple but comfortable enough for us. We slept very well, no noise around and to wake up in such a landscape was a privilege. The dinner and breakfast were excellent and the staff was very helpful guiding us through the area. Thank you! I'm willing to come back with my kids, because this is a great place to stay with family too.
Cons: You have to keep in mind this is a rural tourism, so I was expecting the simplicity we found.

Pros: Amazing location, truly authentic accommodation created by a true artist, local people very welcoming and even offered us to join them for evening dinner when they found out we could not find the local shop. Breakfast was delicious, most amazing view, the Las Medulas site (walking distance from the accommodation) was stunning both in the evening and revisiting in the morning, I need to read more about the area. A truly memorable stay, thank you to all who looked after our needs, our 2 well behaved doggies were very welcomed.
Cons: All was great, parking a little tight, OK with a car.
Pros: Beautiful place run by an amazing person. Come here with an open mind and an open heart!
Pros: The hotel is really unique and peaceful, clean.
Cons: We had to wait for 3 hours to check in. Because no one was at the hotel at that time. Service was not good. Had to pay by cash, no cards accepted.
Pros: This is a magical establishment in a remote place. All the rooms are uniquely decorated using stones, woods, etc. Breakfast was also special and served specially.
Cons: Only cash payment. Owner was not at the place when we arrived, not picking up neither his phone. Later we met him, but the room was not ready. Later everything was sorted out.
Pros: Nothing you see or read here will do justice to the place. In one word: magical. The nature around is stunning and Salva is an amazing host. I stayed two days there with my family and could say a month! I can’t recommend it enough.
Pros: The place was magic. Relax, contemplation, nature, peace. Natural food, great conversation, excellent place to be in silence and recover from stress. I'll go back to take time for my soul.
