We loved the Iberostar Bavaro suites. The resort is breathtaking, the staff is friendly, the grounds are very clean, and the food is plentiful. We loved the setup, the pool area and beach are perfect. The activities at the pool are fun and get everyone involved for a good time. The shows were a bit corny but entertaining and colorful. We partied at all 3 resorts, which are walking distance from each other. The casino is not impressive, but offers an alternative to the nightly shows and bars. The variety of food on the buffets is impressive. The buffet food is good, not great. The ala carte restaurants are very nice change, the food is a step up from the buffets, but not 5 star. Bring your own currency, there is only one atm and it pays out in pesos.
We had a very good time at the Iberostar Bavaro during the week of Thanksgiving with our three adult children, ages 20-23. The resort itself is very clean, and the rooms were nice enough. For the most part, the staff is very friendly and attentive. For some strange reason, the least friendly staff we encountered were at the registration desk. We spent a lot of time at the pool and beach and both were very nice. At one end of the beach, are the local shops. Be prepared to be harrassed a lot if you go there to buy something. The only major issue was with the food. While there were a lot of selections, but the quality was poor. It felt like they were more into quantity, than quality. The dinner wine is not very good either. We had 5 in our group, and 4 of us had intestinal issues when we returned home. We went to the casino a few nights, and enjoyed that, but it is not like Vegas. The dealers and support people will not talk to you or even give you a smile. The nightly shows are pretty good for a resort in the DR. We went to the sports bar and it was okay, but if you want American football on TV, you have to ask. Our kids went to the disco, and they said it was okay. My wife and I also played golf, and the course is in great shape, and a good challenge. We also played tennis. All in all, our stay was enjoyable, and we liked the resort, but we will probably not go back. We'll opt for a little higher quality the next time. We have been to the RIU in Aruba and there was a RIU resort next door. The RIU is better.
Iberostar Suites maintains the best kept grounds I have ever seen. Absolutely beautiful gardens and beaches. The food in the buffet was better than that of most other all inclusive resorts 'gourmet' restaurants, and the Iberostar's gourmet restaurants were amazing! The staff is friendly and helpful and the rooms were above average. Not very many outlets in the rooms, and the air conditioners were a bit weak (it got very humid on occasion).
I love this resort. Staff is very friendly . Lots of fun for kids and adults. I will go back again very soon.
Like the wife says, I'm a complete hotel & restaurant snob. That said, we had a fantastic time! Everything was great. average food, excellent drinks & activities. I was extremely concerned about the quality of the food & drink and the quality of the hotel rooms, but Iberostar exceeded our overall expectations. First the staff: Every single person we interacted with was pleasant and friendly and worked to help out. Tipping puts them over the top, but I didn't get the sense from anyone that it was expected. I ended up tipping for 4 things: The check-in staff to get a good room, the bar staff at my favorite bars, the wait staff at the main buffet, and the person servicing our room. This tipping led to: (1# a better room, #2# outstanding drinks, #3# flawless table service, and #4# constantly filled bottled water in our room. When you go to the main buffet, seek out Gregory. He will be working to the left of the bar, near the fishpond. Gregory couldn't do enough for us! Took care of the kids, made us laugh & tested our children's Spanish speaking abilities. Every time we turned around he was there at just the right moment, or was gone as appropriate. Simply fantastic job! Cleanliness: The hotel common areas, grounds, beaches, and rooms were absolutely spotless! Beds were comfortable enough #pillows a bit flat#. Our $10 tip to the checkin desk got us moved to dead-center in the hotel, room 1211, right by the pool #quiet in the mornings & evenings#. Everything worked well in the room, except the hairdryer. That was fixed within an hour. Our houskeeper cleaned daily while we were at breakfast, checked after lunch, before dinner, and with turndown service. She always made sure the bottled water was plentiful. For that service quality, I wanted to tip! Food & beverage: Note again, I'm a restaurant snob. The buffets were okay. Like many others, I found the one out by the pool & beach to be the best, but it closes for dinner. Kids burger a little under-cooked? Ask the guy to...
Our vacation was EXACTLY what my hubby & I wanted it to be...relaxing!! From the attentive & accommodating front desk staff to the bartenders, food servers, & housekeeping staff, every second was stress-free and easy. The room was clean, light & airy. Make sure you make reservations for the restaurants at guest services as soon as you arrive or you may not get the time you prefer. The food in the steak house was ok. The Meditteranean restaurant's appetizer buffet was outstanding! I could have passed on my bland entree (grilled bass) and filled up nicely on the appetizers! The BEST food was in the French Restaurant! From appetizer to dessert...a real winner! Make sure you have lots of singles for tips! The staff is TRULY appreciative!! Just laying around by the pool & on the beach was heavenly. There were hourly activities (step class, dancing, vollyball, etc.) if you are so inclined to participate. The nightlife is as active as you would like it to be. We frequented the bar areas a bit and checked out the nearby Sports Bar & the Casino. Both were 'eh'. What struck us the most was that although the place was completely booked, it did not seem at all crowded. We never had a problem finding beach/pool loungechairs and we never felt crowded into any of the restaurants or the breakfast/lunch buffets. Those buffets were terrific as well...plentiful, fresh food all day long! We truly had a great vacation & plan on returning next year.
Only drawback was no wireless internet; Otherwise this resort is spectacular in every way. Resort grounds are luxurious and rooms are clean, comfortable and quiet. Pool is large and family friendly. Restaurants have great food (don't even bother with reservation-only dining...evening buffet was delicious and even had grilled steak and lobster!) best part is the beach. We walked along the beach, both directions from the resort, and really appreciated how lovely, seaweed-free and spacious the Iberostar beach is. It was absolutely the best stretch of beach we saw.
Perfect time to travel as resort not jammed to capacity, and were able to do whatever we wanted without waiting in any lines. Beach, pool, grounds and rooms were beautiful and definitely would recommend the Bavaro to everyone.
Stayed here 10 years ago and was pleased then! Check in was easy Room was located close to the beach and a short walk to the restaurants and entertainment. The service staff was outstanding!!! Have been to the DR 12 times and would highly recommend this hotel!
