Set in a typical Finnish mansion, the eco-friendly Putikon Hovi offers free entrance to the on-site garden as well as the arts and crafts museum. The Saimaa Lake is 1 km away. Free WiFi is available. All rooms feature a fully equipped kitchen and private bathroom. Relaxation options include 2 bookable saunas. Cross-country skis and kicksleds can be rented on site, as well as bicycles and rowing boats. A buffet breakfast that has to be pre-ordered is served in the main building. Punkaharju Train Station is a 10-minute drive away. Savonlinna city centre is 40 km away. Putikon Hovi is eco-certified by Nordic Swan.
Pros: Amazing welcome; shown room but then also invited to use a special historically furnished sitting room as per 100 years ago. The manor house grounds were brilliant; interesting and naturally relaxing with a lake, waterwheel, old sauna, grass, flowers, gazebo etc. There was even an open barn with a good quality table tennis table for use. The museum and art gallery on site were extensive and worth a visit (included). The breakfast was vast; impossible to try everything from boiled egg to salad and meats, different breads, spreads, yogurt, sweet pastries and more! How for only 5 Euros ? Easy visit to Punkaharju area and not too far from Savonlinna and the castle.
Cons: Thin curtains and lights outside which stayed on through the night. Darkness in room for sleep impossible without further window cover. Unfortunately on our second night two young couples stayed in the room next door and went to bed after 2am with conversation and music on their patio! Also their smoke blew into our room in spite of there being a 'no smoking near the house' rule. Hopefully not a general occurrence.
Cons: Bicycle and Museum
Pros: The room was surprisingly roomy, with the main room and a smaller room with the bathroom. Very comfortable with a fridge, stove, microwave, coffee maker and dishware. Bathroom was clean and had a heated floor. There was a double bed in the main room and a bunk bed in the smaller room. Premises were really idyllic and picturesque, with a small pond and an old water wheel.
Cons: Bathroom sink was really small, but appropriate considering the limited size of the bathroom.
Pros: Peaceful and quiet surrounded by nature.
Cons: The sound of the fridge in my room.
Pros: Pleasant, quiet location. Hosts were very accommodating. Easy check-in despite late arrival. Great breakfast. Drive from Savonlinna through Punkharju was great.
Pros: Everything. Great setting around a pond, nice wooden houses. The lady taking care of the resort was extremely nice. Excellent breakfast. Great small museum inside the resort.
Pros: Beautiful environment
Cons: Small bedroom, thin walls (you can hear the neighbours)
Pros: Everything was very clean and bed was comfy. Smoking was allowed only in two spots on the area which was very good too.
Pros: Very nice yard, little swimming pond, friendly staff, good breakfast.
Pros: Nice property with old buildings, a museum, gallery etc. Simple but good breakfast.
Part of Mannila farm estate, this hotel is on the shore of Lake Saima, a 10-minute drive from central Punkaharju. It offers regional cuisine, extensive leisure facilities and a private beach. The hotel’s summer café, Hepokatti, next to the stables, offers drinks, snacks and light dishes. Guests have access to a barbecue area and an outdoor smoking oven. Motor boats, row boats and fishing equipment are available to rent in the summer. Recreational facilities include a football field, a beach volleyball court and a skateboard ramp. Horseback riding can be arranged on request. For relaxation, Rantakatti Hotel provides a bookable lakeside sauna, and guests can book massage and other treatments on site. Younger guests can explore Mannila’s petting farm. Wi-Fi is free in public areas, and next to the hotel are free public parking spaces.
Pros: The room was comfortable for an overnight stay. The hotel is located on a lake in the forest and could best be described as a resort where people go to enjoy the outdoors and possibly boating and other water activities. We were on a trip from Oulu to Helsinki and stopped at the Finnish Forestry Museum which is nearby the hotel. The owner met us when we arrived and guided us to a cafe for dinner. The breakfast was excellent and, in a word, never-ending. We were the only guests having breakfast but there was enough food for many more ... right down to dessert!!
Cons: It is off the beaten track and a bit difficult to find although our GPS found it but it is a resort on a lake so it wasn't a negative factor.
When you stay at this cottage in Savonlinna, you'll be within a 5-minute drive of Lusto Finnish Forest Museum. Featured amenities include multilingual staff and laundry facilities. Free self parking is available onsite.
Pros: Nice location near the lake, typical red wooden house.
Cons: Noise of the road across the bridge. Sauna takes very long to heat up and is accessible through the toilet.
Pros: Our cottage was face to the lake.View was excellent. There are several hiking courses. We fully enjoyed forests and lakes in Finland. The hotel is located near the railway station.
Pros: Easy Check In, Amazing view on the lake, Spacious cabin
Cons: The fire place was not working correctly, which caused the fire alarms a few times
Pros: Great cottage for a bunch of people being on the road!
Pros: Friendly helpful staff. Right next to Retretti train station. Beautiful cabin with our own private sauna. 5 min walk to lovely walking trails through the scenic Punkaharju area which had info boards in English.
Cons: If using using public transport plan as looked like only one train every 3 hours on weekend but worked fine for us and only 20mins to Savonlinna by train if want a day trip.
Pros: Best place for the family holidays. Best location and great cottage with all you need inside
Pros: Nice and quite, despite numerous neighbor cottages. Magnificent lake views, all conditions for cross-country skiing and skating. Equipment rental is close to cottages which is very handy (though, the choice is a bit limited: for example, there was no boots for skate skiing, only for classic). Cottage is spacious and cozy, with a nice view, looks recently renovated.
Cons: Floors were a bit sticky, as if somebody spilled the beer on them and didn't tidy up well enough. Also, the only frying pan was in really bad condition, attempt to make french toast ended in a long scrubbing it off the surface. Fireplace location (in the separate entry hall near the sauna) seemed a bit odd, we expected it in the main guest area, but it probably makes more sense in summer than in winter. It would be better if there were special conditions for waste sorting (separate garbage cans under the sink, for example).
Pros: Very nice and scenic place to stay. There is lot of space in and around the cottages for kids to play. Personal grill is a great addition to all the facilities. There is also a water park for kids about 100m away (open during summers only). All in all, total value for money.
Pros: Private sauna, perfect location and close to a lake
When you stay at Kruunupuisto Hotel in Savonlinna, you'll be on a lake and within a 5-minute drive of Lusto Finnish Forest Museum. Featured amenities include complimentary newspapers in the lobby, luggage storage, and laundry facilities. Free self parking is available onsite.
Pros: Beautiful nature all around
Cons: A mixture of a hotel and old people home, very strange
Pros: The rooms where decently decorated although we did ask to put the two single beds together they where wide apart. The local beer was quite nice. The staff was friendly and helpful although a tad over there head with our group
Cons: We where there for a funeral of a deer family member. The resort is at the same time a hotel and a sanatorium. The two where not separated enough, there where rooms in between doctors offices. The restaurant looks like stuck in a time wrap and is in dire need of a revamp. It has the distinct feel of an sanatorium canteen. All in all the place seems not really to have a real concept at what to be.
Cons: Breakfast was bad, very poor and bland.
Pros: Nice location, good spa facility
Cons: Poor buffet choice
Pros: Extra beautiful nature. Friendly staff, cosy rooms.
Cons: Spa is closed on Sunday till lunch when everyone should check-out! So we couls only use spa at Saturday, but expected to do it on Sunday also!
Pros: All in one.
Pros: Room was very spacious and clean, with comfy armchairs, large tv, large desk, 2 night tables next to the bed and fridge. There were also wardrobes and many shelves for clothes. Beds were very comfortable. Nice view from the window to the forest. Heated floor in the bathroom. Swimming pool was opened from early afternoon till 20.30 and in the morning between 7.30 and 8.30. There were not many people in the pool when I visited it.
Cons: Breakfast was rather bad - hard, old bread as well as old rolls, meat balls that who knows what kind of journey made before ending up on the breakfast table. Not much choice of foods and no descriptions what food is served. In our room it seemed like one curtain was missing ( the other one could barely cover half of the window, and I needed to reinstall it twice, since it was not attached properly to the clamps) along with half door of shower cabin. Also one night-table lamp did not work, but we got another one when we asked. Our room was right above the swimming pool, so we had some bothering noise in the room till swimming pool's closing time, however we were offered to change the room.
Pros: It’s very close to the lake. The rooms were clean and comfortable.
Cons: I think the hotel used to be a hospital or at least it feels like it. The layout is quite confusing. The hotel could do with updating as it is a bit dated. Breakfast was okay but not great.
Pros: Functional, clean rooms with ac. Location by the lake is beautiful, nice walk tours around Punkaharju. Lake side café is worth visit&dinner or waffels.
Cons: Breakfast was like going back to the 80ties, bad value for money.
Pros: The hotel was an old sanatorium, creating a historical atmosphere.
Cons: The time for dinner, pool was limited only between 5-7 pm.
Located on an island on Lake Saimaa, this property is 10 minutes' drive from Punkaharju and 30 minutes’ drive from Savonlinna. It offers free WiFi and great fishing opportunities just metres away. Each room at Villa Urhola, Kruunupuisto is bright and modern, some with a decorative fireplace and all with a flat-screen TV. The rooms come with private bathrooms and include a hairdryer. Guests have access to restaurant and spa facilities at an affiliated hotel just 400 metres from Villa Urhola. Guests can purchase massages, treatments and health courses at the spa. Swimming can be enjoyed in the lake, while walking and cross-country skiing trails can be found in the surrounding countryside. Punkaharju town centre is a 10-minute drive away.
Pros: The whole "Harju"-area in Punkaharju was beautiful. The breakfast was very good and nicely served even if not in Villa Urhola (which is more convenient) but in the Spa Building Kruununvuori. The Personnell was nice and helpful.
Cons: The shower did not work.
Pros: Clean, beautiful building and quiet place to stay.
Cons: Dining and breakfast not so good.
Pros: Good place on the island inside the large lake. Very nice forest in all the directions. Good sauna, very nice rooms.
Cons: Food (breakfast and supper) are not so good. A lot of options, but everything is cooked not in a good way.
Pros: The nature around is very picturesque, and clean. Lots of lakes and small villages. We found a free skating ring nearby.
Cons: We booked a room for 2 adults with extra bed for 15 y.o. boy. Then my elder son decided to come with us, so I had made a phone call to the owner of this property, but he did not speak English. Then (later, same day) I called to his wife, and told her - we are four touriststs instead of pre- paid 3. She had assured me that they will arrange an extra bed in a bigger room that they definitely have. I asked how much will it cost for us, and she replyed: "..not much, I think". So , we did not cancel or change the booking. Upon arrival, I found no one at the rception, but keys from 2 rooms were there with my name (not one room as promised). Room #9 was very noisy due to heating pump exaust air flow. There was "some WiFi", but at a very low speed...... But the most shocked we were at check- out: the English - speaking lady was still somewhere, while the owner had given me a bill for 120 Euro. So, total sum was 320 Euro. Actually I was expecting them to keep their phone promises. We have made our choice because of 200 Euro budget for 3 persons. And one extra person should not cost over 70 Euro. The 50 Euro difference is not much, but this was the end of our trip, and we were short in cash. While it is impossible to pay by bank card there. So, I had to borrow extra money from a friend of mine, who was (fortunately) nearby. For me and my family, this is not a "Fair play", 120 Euro is not a sum that can be called "not much" for this kind of deal: for 320 Euro we could rent a stand-alone cottage with sauna in this region!
Cons: Without a car hopeless place to stay. Nearest shop 1.5 km away... only have fridge and small microwave in an old room with 2 single beds (too soft) AND no facilities to use kitchen or to cook anything. On plus side owner was helpful with information and has a good sauna.
Pros: Very hospitable, very nice. Great modern place with a sauna
Pros: Good value for money
Pros: Stories by the owner, great breakfast if you like fish
Cons: This is a place to stay overnight, too basic for extended stay
Pros: hotel staff
Cons: no comfortable
Pros: The peace
Cons: Label (with the name of a hotel) on it's roof is simply white without letters. It was very hard to find it. Nobody waited us in the evening on the reception. We took keys ourself. The room was for non-smokers (# 4), but the smell was like it was a smoking room in the past. Water in shower in the morning was very cold. The swimming pool is without water (does not work). Very simple hotel... looks like motel.
Cons: everything is out of date e.g. furniture and equipment -- the 70s come back! The swimming pool was out of order (without water)
Pros: we got a rather new appartment with 2 bedrooms instead of 2 hotel rooms.
