The accommodation was spacious, clean and stylish, the facilities in the kitchen we're excellent, the bathroom sizeable and modern and the bed was most comfortable too. Pros: Everything was just perfect for us, from first communication and instructions to get there, kindness of welcome, to the room (a dream), a perfect setting for a nice breakfast on the terrace and lastly, Murielle’s helpful recommendations and support for restaurant booking and more. Highly recommend for a relaxing sejour visiting beautiful Metz! We would definitely stay there again.

8.8 Excellent
Pros: La Haie à Cerf comprises a large house with an extensive garden on the edge of a small village. There are plenty of fields and paths nearby to exercise a dog or just to take a stroll. At our request Charante, the owner, cooked us a lovely 3 course vegetarian meal which at 20 Euros each including wine was great value.
Cons: Nothing to dislike but note that dogs can no longer be left loose in the garden. Apparently, earlier this year, a dog got into her chicken coop with disastrous results.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Charming B&B with the most wonderful gardens. The Host was the best part of the stay for us. So friendly and interesting to talk to. Does not speak English (nor us very much French) but we conversed very well using her translator on her cell phone. Was so much fun to talk to her. She has a great sense of humor and was so very welcoming. We had read that she would prepare dinner for you if requested. We did and it was lovely. All made by her personally with wonderful touches. The location is just outside a very small town that closes up pretty early so if you do not eat at the B&B will need to journey back to Verdun. Spent the day before and after touring WWI sites.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The owner is very friendly, helpful, and accommodating. We loved our short visit and can't wait to return to this perfectly quant setting.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: It's like having a second home near Verdun, Chantal only speaks French, but do not let that scare you away!! She will take good care... Had a great time!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: I don’t know where to start. The whole experience was incredible. Chantal is a wonderful host. She cooked us a fabulous 4 course dinner at late notice and it was superb. Her house is amazing and the garden even more so. Don’t hesitate. Just book it. You won’t be disappointed.
Cons: Absolutely nothing.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: First class accommodation and an excellent service. Will definitely go back again.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Wow, what a wonderful experience staying with this lovely lady in her gorgeous home! Unfortunately, we only had one night to spend there but it was the highlight of our trip! I had read that she would make dinner on request, as we had been driving through the countryside and hadn't really found a place to eat, I had written to see if we could schedule dinner as well. The food was absolutely amazing! The house is gorgeous and Chantal is the most gracious host!! We used our Google translate app to communicate and had no problems. Breakfast came with 6 different homemade jams to choose from! I have already told my husband, we so have to go back sometime and stay again!!
Cons: Nothing, absolutely nothing
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Location and owner typically French looks like our grandmother
Cons: We should have request fruits and yogurt for breakfast would have been perfect
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The large garden is amazing, the breakfast, the large room with pool table , bar and large t v .
Cons: nothing!!!!!.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Friendliness, relaxing setting, nice view over the city attentive and welcoming hostess. If offered an evening meal, it is worth it. Great way to meet fellow travellers.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Everything was finally ok. I parked my car next to the entrance; the owner was very friendly and helpful, the room was ok, and the breakfast was with no doubt the best thing from all of our stay. You will not be disappointed.
Cons: Actually, it was not what I expected and reserved. I booked Grey Room - "This double room has a private bathroom and a TV." I got another room (described as a double room with two single beds) with neither private bathroom nor TV. It was just a transit stay, so I did not need a TV, and a shared bathroom did not mind us after 11 PM when we had arrived. So, you have to consider that the description of the facilities in the room is actually the description of the facilities in the whole guesthouse. The location is ok if you travel by car, but it is not so easy to park a car there. To sum up, you will not regret your stay there, but the quality/price ratio is not so good as it looks.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The property is situated on a quiet street and from the front looks like an ordinary French house. The inside and rear garden, however, are far from ordinary. The whole place is charming. Anouck is an extremely friendly and welcoming host and we really enjoyed our stay and would not hesitate to go back should we visit this part of France again. The town of Metz is only about a ten minute drive, if that, from the premises and is a beautiful and lively place to visit with lots of things to see and plenty of places to eat.
Cons: We liked everything about this establishment
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Absolutely loved the stay. This is a proper BNB and a stay I wouldn't trade for anything! Anouck and the Chef were truly exceptional hosts. The advice they gave was priceless. The food and drinks were bliss, and it's prepared before you. If you want to experience the culture and meet some lovely people then do not pass this stay up! The location is also fantastic and the room has a brilliant view of the valley below. There's some nice walking paths that zigzag through the neighborhood that make a great way to see the area. Metz is just down the hill and Nancy is less than an hour away so it's a great start off point.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Great breakfast after a good night's sleep in a comfy bed
7.5 Good
Pros: friendly staff. assisted check in
Cons: location
10.0 Excellent
Pros: You feel like a guest - very friendly and personal. And the option of having an evening meal was wonderful.

Pros: Excellent location and food.
Cons: Didn’t allow dogs in restaurant despite checking in advance that they would.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything was outstanding. Property, atmosphere, location, host, food, wine. Just perfect. Can not fault this place
Cons: Nothing not to like. Refreshingly perfect in every aspect
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Really amazing building, which is what you are paying for and it’s worth it at low end of rooms. (Can’t comment on other rooms.) Good location for WWI battlefields. We stayed in middle tower room. It was simple and clean. Two small windows like 30-40cm square. Large shared bathroom with real shower. Nice breakfast. Pleasant welcoming staff.
Cons: Bed was OK, lumpy pillows. Expensive for shared bathroom, but no one was in other room. Gardens lack design—a big missed opportunity.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: The grounds were beautiful as were the guest rooms in the main building. Service was excellent! It was a real treat to stay in such an historic and well-preserved chateau.
Cons: We thought we were reserving a room with a private bathroom; our bath was shared with one other room and available to anyone in the building. Coming during early winter (Oct-Nov) restaurants in the area were all closed for the season.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We opted for the fireside dinner and it was fantastic. The location was very romantic and the dinner was delicious. Wines were paired with the two main courses. The Château overlooks the Lorraine Valley and offers beautiful views of the French countryside. We were visiting the American Cemetery from the Battle of Saint-Michel and the Château was nearby.
5.8 Okay
Pros: The history, the beauty of the exterior, especially after dark...all lit up with floodlights of different colours. The not included dinner was held in an arched banquet room with a 20 foot wide roaring fireplace. Staff were very good.
Cons: Hard to get to, hard to get in as staff must be rang to get you through front gates. The room we had overlooked a rundown house with three barking dogs. The church bells ring throughout the night
10.0 Excellent
Pros: This hotel is like a story book. Our stay here was amazing. My favorite on our entire 2 week trip in Europe. The staff is excellent and provided a tour of the property. We ate dinner on the premises and had an amazing multi course French meal. It was truly delicious and incredible. My room was beautiful with a lovely view of the surrounding countryside. Very quiet and peaceful.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Absolutely stunning castle... the views are second to none looking out over the valleys. We ordered a gourmet meal the night we arrived and it was simply magical. Our table was prepared in the beautiful dining room in candlelight and the service was first class. We ordered breakfast but this castle has it right. There is a full kitchen where you are able to self cater. You can have the best of both worlds here. We will definately visit again and stay longer.. the atmosphere is so relaxing I could have sat in the gardens all day.
7.7 Good
Pros: This is the most romantic place we have even visited. The ambiance is extraordinary and Francine and Cathrine made us feel so welcome. In the evening we had a romantic dinner for two in front of the fireplace with Fabian as our private chef and waiter. (We had to book this in advance, as there is no restaurant) The food and service was first class. We will be back and next time we will book a suite.
7.7 Good
Pros: the castle is a magical place that you only normally dream of, the grounds and the views are second to none, you really feel like a princess in her own castle, best stay ever
Cons: it wasn´t long enough

9.0 Excellent
Pros: Great breakfast, very friendly host.
Cons: Nothing!
9.2 Excellent
Pros: The room was absolutely okay and the price/value is excellent. If you want to visible Verdun city or the Verdun battle field, the location is almost perfect - its only some 10 minute away from the battle field. The owners are both very friendly and accommodating. The whole accommodation is very fimiliar and with shared area. The breakfast is absolutely fanstasic and it is really huge which home-make honey and home-made jam, never had that before in a hotel.
Cons: The breakfast coffee could be a bit stronger, but this is very subjectively.....
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Fantastic owners full of warm hospitality. They really enjoyed people in their home. Great breakfast, you won't expect such a big selection of tasty bread, jams etc. There is a fridge for the guests and even the possibility to freeze cold packs. The rooms were large and very clean. We really enjoyed our stay and the many conversions with our hosts. Thanks again!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very accommodating host! Still all smiles even when we were delayed and only arrived well after midnight. They have a lovely relaxed garden and we had a delicious breakfast with some of their own honey. It’s feels deep in the countryside and therefore very peaceful.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Very friendly welcome. Character setting with animals and fruit trees. Owner Olivier even booked us a table at a local pizza restaurant and drove us there and back so we didn't have to get back on our motorbikes and could have a beer! Excellent breakfast and a very pleasant stay all round. Well done to our hosts.
Cons: Nothing.
7.9 Good
Pros: Very friendly host. Room was large and comfortable. Excellent traditional breakfast with lovely bread. Close to Verdun battlefield and memorials. A very homely environment - felt like you were staying in someone's home rather than a hotel/apartment.
Cons: No TV in room which didn't bother us but is unusual and may be important for others. Location is not terribly easy to find - tucked away in a little hamlet.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Hosts we really lovely and very welcoming. Rooms were comfy and breakfast was delicious.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Faboulus! Nice room, hosted by very nice people. Breakfast was absolutely super. If you want to stay in a very special place off the beaten track, this is the place to go!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Friendly owners. You could feel like home. Quiet location. Great breakfast with homemade food.

9.6 Excellent
Pros: Very nice house with interesting artworks and a very nice garden
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful house. Lots of artwork throughout house
10.0 Excellent
Pros: This is a chambre d’hote of extreme charm, beauty and interest. The house is filled with fascinating and beautiful things lovingly collected. Modern comfort blends with tradition: the last of the village’s wine presses is in the tranquil garden, which still has the opening to the ancient cellar below ground. Breakfast is served on a marble topped oval table, decorated with fruit and fresh flowers, with delicious bread, home made jams, a different cheese each day, ham and coffee drunk from the large traditional French coffee cups, on china which has passed down through the hostess’s family. The owners are extremely kind and friendly, with time to talk and share experiences and a bottle of the wine they produce themselves. We were fortunate to be there on the day of the May 1st festival, Lily of the Valley day, with a wonderful flea market, filled with fascinating and very readonably priced objects from antiques to toys, filling the little village square. The atmosphere was jolly and the air was filled with the acent of lilacs and of of lily of the valley. A very short drive to the lower village allows you to take an easy bus journey into Metz, a very pleasant city to visit, with stunning stained glass windows in the Cathedral. Although a Chambre D’Hote rather than self catering accommodation, the hosts own kitchen is made available to guests who wish to cook for themselves.
Cons: There was nothing I did not like.
Gîte La Paysanne - Fresnes-en-Woëvre - Building
9
9.1 Excellent (223 reviews)
8.8 Excellent
Pros: A classic chambre d’hote, with a warm welcome from the owner and breakfast in the main room, at the heart of the property. Our room ‘Venise’ is quite special: quirky and colourful decor which made us laugh. Everything is clean and comfortable. Lovely breakfast with fresh baked items. I came because I worked here as an English teacher 30 years ago and we chatted about that. Otherwise it made the perfect stop between UK and Germany.
Cons: I really can’t think of anything.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: A short ride from the A4 highway. The apartment was huge and very well equipped. The bed was comfortable and after a 12hour drive just perfect to fall asleep in. Everything was amazing.
6.7 Good
Pros: Rather eclectic furnishing to the room. The bed was comfy, the bathroom good, the breakfast typical French style with home made jams freesh bread a nd croissants. The hosts are attentive and helpful although not able to converse in English this is not a problem if you can speak a little French or use translate. The owners are renovating the hotel and bar and are doing so by finding furnishings that fit the period, sort of early art deco/French country bar mix. There is still a lot to do and we applaud the owners efforts. The individual rooms are exactly that - individual, look at the pics and you'll see. Stay here if you want something different. This is not a chain hotel but two individuals attempt to bring an old building back to life and learn to be hoteliers, good luck to them .
Cons: The listing could be a bit more accurate with the state of the building, the exterior needs work and the breakfast area, while comfy enough is basically a period bar being recreated. For those who have allergies to animals the owners have both a cat and a dog who are part of there family so have access to the common parts.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Spacious, clean, staff were very attentive
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The property hosts were absolutely delightful. They provided us with local information and took great care of us.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Excellent host .... could not do enough for us ..... we will stay there again
Cons: Nothing

9.6 Excellent
Pros: The chateau was lovely and our room was very spacious and clean. The furnishings were attractive and the beds were comfortable. The bathroom was modern and had a nice shower. The breakfast of croissants, baguettes, jams and yoghurt was very good. The hostess was pleasant and helpful. We had a few mosquitoes in our room and she provided insect repellant and plugins. Parking onsite was good. The property garden with its very large trees was tranquil.
Cons: There was no shampoo provided so I had to wash my hair with soap. The village of Puxe had nothing to offer and not even a boulangerie. This was not really a problem for us as we enjoyed the peace of the country, but it was a surprise.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The chateau is in a lovely rural setting with extensive grounds but close to Jarny for restaurants. The room was spacious, attractively furnished with old pieces and a modern bathroom. Breakfast included delicious home made jams and apple juice from the orchard.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: i gave a high score because it satisfied our needs completely. no tv, couldn't get wifi....observations of other reviewers are sort of accurate if a bit pinnickity! Peace, calm, secure. we had the blue corner room and had a perfect nights peace and sleep. Good parking, good bathroom, comfortable bed, plenty of heating on demand, owls at night, simple but good & tasty breakfast and coffee, very friendly and warm host. At this price it's a bargain really. When we were driving & arriving back to gloucestershire, we wondered if we had actually dreamt Puxe...so different from the many other (good/bad/indifferent) places we have stayed in. It may not satisfy all, but if you like good warm simplicity and a good book...it's a perfect stop over. &...we saw possibly 500 Herons in a field nearby!
Cons: no problems at all
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Lovely place to stay in a beautiful setting. The rooms were perfect, traditional decoration and a good nights sleep. The host was so welcoming, recommended and booked a table for dinner for us at a local restaurant. Woke up to a delicious French breakfast with home made jams. Puxe was a pretty and quiet village but so close to the main motorways. It was perfect for our one night stopover on the way back home, wish we could have stayed longer.
Cons: Liked everything.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Large comfortable rooms, great continental breakfast. Quiet rural setting, but still accessible from the motorway. Louise went out of her way to accommodate our late arrival and to arrange a table for us in a nearby village for dinner.
4.6 Okay
Pros: Location
Cons: Bed was small, terribly uncomfortable. There was an ant infestation problem starting from the windows that extended to the floor. The room upon arrival was very cold. Booked in October!
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Everything, and one of the best sleep in a month or so of travel
Cons: Everything was good
7.9 Good
Pros: Fun to stay in a large chateau. Convenient location between Verdun and Metz. Located in a quiet village, no traffic or noise. Large grounds. Not a beautifully furnished palace, but a family/working/historic property.
Cons: It’s a big place, had a few minutes of confusion finding the front door.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We stayed one night on the way to Paris. The room is perfectly clean, well-equipped. The host lady is friendly, breakfast is very good. I recommend it to everyone!
Cons: We liked everything

9.6 Excellent
Pros: A little bit of a cultural experience more than a hotel
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Such a lovely host. We had the loft, all to ourselves. I loved the decoration, which you can tell matches the hosts taste. I love cats and I ended buying one of hand made toys, that the host makes by herself. I would definitely want to revisit this place. The breakfast was lovely !
Cons: The hot water works on boiler, so it's not endless.
6.7 Good
Pros: The host tried to accomodate us as best she could, she was really friendly.
Cons: It's complicated to get there, even though it's 50 m from the main road, you cannot just turn left or right (depending on what direction you're coming from) and drive the 50 m because it's a one-way road. The wi-fi was practically nonexistent and the breakfast was fair at best, insufficient for someone who will be on the road for the rest of the day (the breakfast has to be an energy-kick into the day).
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything, especially breakfast!!!
Cons: Nothing

3.3 Mediocre
Pros: the continental breakfast on the first day was very nice But on the second day we had to share the same size breakfast with another couple , which was very inadequate . the view was nice in the back garden but not renovated . pallets of bricks.
Cons: wifi. only available for 1 hour in the evening and then turned off. had to ask several times to turn it on. breakfast.. a breakfast for 2 had to be shared by 4 adults on the 2nd morning . very poor. host was too occupied with her baby and young child to see her guests.. no communication regarding hotel facilities that we could use. we felt we were moving into a family home and not a guest house!, we could not sit out on an evening due to the family having they evening meal and no seating for guests we would not recommend staying here.

Pros: Very modern. Clean. A unique experience checking in as no one was there. Lucky I could read my emails, as the instructions were there as how to get key for room etc.
Cons: Quite low beams , open plan including toilet. Had trouble parking had to park further up the road .
10.0 Excellent
Pros: This is a property that has several rooms for rent and the room we had was very comfortable and well supplied with everything we would need. It was an older property that had been completely renovated. The freshly baked bread and croissants were part of an ample breakfast.
Cons: We had difficulty finding this property.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Le Prana is located in a quaint little village on a very quiet street. The accommodation is comfortable and nicely decorated. Breakfast is quite good and served on a tray, which you can take where you want: the lounge, the kitchen or the terrace. The terrace is definitely a bonus on warm days and evenings. Another plus on warm days is the almost noiceless airco.
Cons: I had some trouble getting in, but when I managed to do that, it was perfect.
3.8 Mediocre
Pros: There was only automatic answering machine (I’ve called several times). Remote and isolated location. The WiFi DID NOT work. There was no way to change the Heater temp.
Cons: The fresh bread for breakfast Even though we have prepaid for the breakfast, an invoice of 3€ was near the bread - “requesting” the additional pay
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything from opening the door on arrival to leaving it was perfect, perfect way to run a business everything had been thought of excellent beautiful spacious rooms and the outside space was just as nice
