The chap who owns this place has obviously been to Mal Maison hotels! We were expecting something quite rudimentary and basic inside - but it blew us away! Absolutely gorgeous rooms, furniture, fittings, wallpaper(yes, really!) and, if it were open - restaurant! An amazing hotel that seems to have been put in a quiet, one-horse town, by mistake. As with all the places we stayed during our trip: the lack of food during the day! If Spain could just be a little more flexible in this simple request, it would be an even better place than it is all ready.
The proprietors made us feel very welcome and were most accomodating to us as we were traveling by bicycle.
very comfortable room, and nice welcome from proprietors. Breakfast was very pleasant. road works make location slightly difficult to find on foot, need to follow signs carefully!
Quiet, friendly and helpful staff, clean, nicely decorated. It was very easy to get into Bilbao by train at the suggestion of an hotel staff member. There was not obvious to us that we could eat there in the evening and we spent ages unnecessarily trying to find a local restaurant, all of which were shut.
friendly atmosphere quiet location Out of the way location which was nice but no dining facility which meant after a long day's drive we were obliged to go out again to eat in the evening and the local restaurant did not open till 21.00 although with a little persuasion this was bought forward to 20.30
This hotel is a gem. It is situated in an unpromising suburb of Bilbao, but is a beautiful building. There are regular, cheap local trains to Bilbao, which is much better than taking your car into the city centre. The hotel is run by a couple with a young family and they coudn't do enough to help and make us feel welcome.
no english speaking staff
The hotel was in a lovely, if not easy to find location, and the staff were great. As a bed and breakfast stop it is lovely. We had booked on the basis of being able to get an evening meal here. The restaurant is only for breakfast. It is under the flight path for the airport and a new road being built will make it a lot busier.
Not as rural as expected. It was close to and overlooking a high way and in the middle of the industrial part of town. Not that charming!!
The welcome and friendliness of the owners. Their lovely house in peaceful surroundings, the attention to detail in the decor and beautiful bedroom. A very relaxing place to stay and extremely good value.
Beuatiful location even though next to an industrial estate and Motorway. Handy for the through traveller via Bilbao. Could have been more informative about evening meal arrangements. Recommendations for local restaurants not helpful.
The hotel is in a delightful setting and quirky within itself. the staff could not have been more friendly and helpful Breakfast was not good, no cereal or Bacon and eggs, just sweet cakes and really dry toasted bread which was too dry before it was toasted! noisy plumbing and no sound deadening between rooms, when my neighbor was on the telephone I could hear every word.
Friendly staff, great location and great value for money. Very authentic feel to the hotel
Nice location,clean,pleasant staff, None
The setting and the tranquility of the hotel
Tranquility Splendid main building contrasts with basic, but quite adequate, accomodation.
Poor soundproofing between rooms and small bathroom
The staff and the location near to the port. We could hear the man in the next room talking, the walls were thin and no sound proofing. But a good standard of room.
Exellent location for our purposes. Very clean and modern. The staff were all friendly and helpful. Would definitely stay there again.
Very agreeable and helpful staff led by Rosi, first class dinner at reasonable price, well appointed room, easy parking - a good value place to stop if getting the ferry from Bilbao to UK next day or visiting the Basque mountains. Front rooms might get some noise from nearby railway.
We stayed at the Hotel Aldama one Friday night at the end of June. We arrived quite late went for a walk prior to eating dinner having first checked the menu outside the hotel to check that the daily menu was available as it had been recomended by a previous reviewer. We arrived back and sat down for dinner (we were the only people in the restaurant) only to be told that no menu was available! It being too late to go searching for another place to eat, we decided to eat a la carte. The meal turned out to well below the standard we expected in such an establishment (we had two completely different dishes (one meat & one fish which had exactly the same sauce). On returning to our room we found there was only one set of towels for too people.
The quietness of the area although there was a railway station nearby. Rather expensive. Poor breakfast for €4: 4 slices of bread!
excellent helpful staff. menu in english / spanish / galicio excellent bath/wc facilities no bar area
The hotel was very clean. Could do with a place to relax and have a drink or read, meaning a seating area. They do serve coffee but only at meal times. The staff were extremely friendly. There are times when you don't want to go to town especially when the weather is bad. The train station opposite was a bit of a nuisance! I wouldn't want to stay more than a couple of days for these sort of reasons.
Nice view from room. Good residents' lounge. Unwelcoming reception. Lift out of action throughout stay. Persistent barking of proprietor's dog chained outside bedroom window. Buffet breakfast (included in room rate) did not materialise.
Chef and owner greeted us personally and cooked a wonderful meal. Great hospitality, and the room's furnishing, especially in the bathroom, were much better than expected for the price.
