Old historical building in the center of town next to cathedral, good breakfast Unfriendly, even arrogant staff, the hotel has been of a v good standard 20 years ago, today it´s not on the level as expected, dark rooms
excellent location in beautiful city poor food quality much below expectations
Great central location opposite cathedral, free parking, nice lounge area in mediaeval hall, bright clean room overlooking the square Service ok, but a bit institutional
Wonderful setting right next to the cathedral and close enought to do a fantastic wine tour at Marques de Riscal
lobby is spacious and good atmosphere
The building and ambience Difficult to find and entering the square.Clear mud maps necessary
We have stayed many times at this Parador - always clean and comfortable.
We have stayed here many times when we travel back to the Uk on the Ferry from Santander.Very good all around!
Lovely setting in historic town centre. The Parador benefits from secure (underground) parking and is right next to the cathedral. It provides an oasis of calm. Like all paradores this one doesnt serve evening meals until 20.30 - far too late for many northern europeans. Fortunately there are splendid restaurants nearby.
The building, the service, the room, the staff, the restaurant, exellent. No.
Very attractive hotel, nicely furnished in keeping with fact that it used to be an old monastry. Good restaurant - and open Sunday evening! No door directly from car park into hotel - and it was snowing.
Very peaceful and calm. Would have liked some local information. Some friends had stayed previouly and had told us about the wonderful Cathedral containing the Cockeral ! We would never have known otherwise.
Design and interiors - renaissances style, hotel's bar - variety of tea, nice vine list. Location - rather quite place, not in the tourist area, but still rather near. The room was a little bit small, but comfortable. Very fine and expensive windows. Please take away awful lithographs over the beds. Besides they do not match at style and the colour palette used in the room.
The decor in the traditional Spanish castle style. The food was Spanish and excellent which was what we expected. Porterage was poor but it was a Sunday onnwhich we arrived
A typical parador, with the ambience of a historic building and excellent food and drink. Slightly expensive.
The Hotel it's self, along with the location was first class. This was the fourth Parador that we have stayed in, and both my wife and I thought that this was, possibly the best. The food was good, and the staff were polite.
Fantastic hotel in rural, off the beaten track Spain in the heart of Rioja country. Exactly how i imagined a parador to be. Good choice of typical Riojaian restaurants in town. No
Great menu and dining experience and the hotel staff was very friendly and helpful.
Atmospheric and comfortable with good food nothing
I didn't die there was a major bed bug infestation and I got bitten all over. The staff refused to help. The wireless internet didn't work and the staff, again, refused to help. The one computer in the lobby had about as many viruses on it as there were bed bugs in our room...
The accommodation was wonderful, very quiet, beautifully restored. Internet did not work in the rooms, only in reception lobby, but was not a problem.
The hotel was beautiful and very romantic. Near good places to eat. Staff was excellent. Because of the thick walls internet access in the rooms was not available.
Ambience, standard of breakfast & delivered to room on request, standard of accomodation Surprised not sign posted in village
Have stayed at many such country hotels in Europe and this is above average. Very quiet and relaxing after a day touring. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Some street signage in the village directing the location would have been helpful.
We loved this hotel! We had a superior double room which had a huge spa bath, was very spacious and overlooked the village square and monastery. The staff are very welcoming and helpful. The hotel is in a beautiful historic building with beautiful traditional decor but also offers modern comforts such as a lift and free internet access. It's ideal as a base to tour round the picturesque villages and do wine-tasting at the many vineyards close by. I'd recommend a visit to the Marques de Riscal Hotel in Elciego, to see the amazing architecture designed by Frank Gehry who designed the Guggenheim in Bilbao. They don't do evening meals, but this was only a problem for us as we arrived during the village fiesta when restaurants were all booked up!
A very charming Inn in an old monastery building located in a small village in La Rioja. The old architecture and murals make it a special place. Nice buffet breakfast included in our rate. Only 5 km to wine tasting in Haro and tapas scene in historic Sto Domingo. Free parking on streets nearby hotel. Olympic-sized town pool with free-entry courtesy of the hotel is a two minute walk and was a great outlet for our seven-year-old.
The monastry is beautiful and it was great to stay in a small town. Haro was only a 5 minute drive and it's close to the mountains (half an hour) and in the middle of the wineries. Would have been great if the hotel staff spoke a little more english but they were still helpful and friendly
Beauty of the hotel, quality of the welcome and generally high quality of attention from the staff, location of hotel, breakfast, international channels on the tv. 1. Wi-fi did not work but computer in lobby did. We weren't sure at the time if the problem was in the wifi or our computer. Now we know it was a hotel issue. 2. bed mattress uncomfortable--springs poked us. Same problem in most hotels we've stayed in on this trip to Spain. Good foam mattress is a better way to go. 3. bathroom sometimes smelled unpleasant We did not bring these issues to the staff's attention
We loved the little touches that made the hotel so unique. It succesfully blended comfort, luxury and history. There was an occassional drain smell from the toilet. There were no real English speakers, but we managed to muddle through with lots of hand gestures!
The warm welcome and the meal with typical dishes from the area. Only 15km from Burgos but the hotel is in the middle of a typical small village. If you like a design hotel with very good food and on the country-side, go for it. I was very happy nothing to say.
The room was clean and comfortable. The position was central with easy access to restaurants and bars. Difficult to find. Room looked out on derelict buildings. There was no balcony as described in the hotel information. Staff spoke little English. Breakfast was in the cafe and it was not clear what was available to guests. The "garden terrace" was a small rectangle of grass surrounded by derelict buildings!
The central position in an ancient town, close to the churches and main square. Modern, well run hotel inside an old facade Not easy to find, as street signage was minimal
Situated in a beautiful unspoilt Spanish town. I had a very relaxing overnight stop on my journey. Will definetely return
Staff very friendly and helpful. Great location in this vibrant town just off the Plaza Mayor. Lots of bars and restaurants around. Lovely typical Spanish town, The carpark was away from the hotel but didn't pose a problem. No menu for breakfast so it was unclear what was on offer to guests in the cafeteria.
convenient stop on the way back to Bilbao. Although the town itself does not have much to see, the surrounding villages are very pretty and interesting. The hotel itself was confortable and clean.
