Pros: The view of our bungalow and the location were excellent. The pool was very nice.
Cons: Although I love animals, it was a little painful to see them jailed. The breakfast room was a little too packed but it was also high season. It would have been nice to have some hot elements to the breakfast too (E.g. eggs).

Pros: The farm is amazing. It is super relaxed the chill with the animals. The owners are really nice and friendly.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: It is easy to be comfortable as soon as you walk in the door. We did not have a car and were encouraged by Susanna to use her refrigerator to keep a couple of our food items that we brought with us. She had fruit, cakes, coffee, and water out all day and night. We could come and go as we pleased and took some spectacular pictures of the Milky Way. The house and property has been in the family for over 300 years! The antiques and heirlooms are so special. As well as the relaxing places to lounge outside. Muito Obrigada!
Cons: We loved everything.

Pros: Great welcome by Susana. We were a bit early but could check in immediately. Comfortable and spacious rooms. Nice attitude towards the animals they care for. They even switched off the light in the garden so that we could admire the starry sky even better. Nice view on Monsaraz and the lakes of the Rio Guadiana. Would definitely recommend this location for a stay in Alentejo

3.8 Mediocre
Pros: The location

The swimming pool cleanliness leaves a lot to be desired.

It is a 55-minute drive to Évora and its ancient walls, Roman Temple and the famous Bone Chapel, a chapel with its inside completely coated in human bones. Every July there is a city-wide festival called “Monsaraz Museu Aberto” where the local culture is on display, including cuisine, crafts, music and theatre. The Casa Saramago is located a 75-minute drive to the Beja Airport, and a 2-hour drive to the Lisbon International Airport.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Charming, rustic, comfortable place with beautiful grounds, convenient location and most helpful and friendly staff!
Cons: Nothing.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Good breakfast
7.1 Good
Pros: The property and location itself is beautiful, and has everything one needs for a comfortable stay.
Cons: We love the Portuguese people, but not so much the folks who own/run this property. The fact that not one word of English is spoken nor understood didn’t bother us, we quite like a little bit of a linguistic adventure, but the lady receiving us (I think the owner) couldn’t have been more unfriendly, unhelpful and unaccommodating. Besides some ignored requests, to not turn around to even just smile or greet guests when one enters the lodge is simply rude, and she made it quite obvious that checking out (at 10h30) during her breakfast was quite an annoyance (I would have preferred to have waited for her to finish the mouthful of bread before being dealt with). Not a good bye or Obrigade, but by that stage we didn’t really care anymore. The hotel is beautifully appointed but really should not be using single use plastic cups, wrapped in more plastic in the rooms for the storage of toothbrushes, nor should butter be served in those small disposable butter containers often used by take outs and large hotel chains. Every jam, honey and fruit dish covered in yet even more plastic, even inside where there was not a fly insight. The fact that the families dogs are locked in tiny cages behind the swimming pool, desperate for our attention, coupled with family photographs of bullfighting did not endear this establishments’ ownership to us, and we certainly won’t be back.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Casa Saramago is a converted farm building that is done in a simple rustic Portuguese style. Extremely homely. The pool was lovely to relax at and nice and quiet. A brilliant place to relax and unwind.
7.9 Good
Pros: Fresh baked bread at breakfast was excellent. Pool area was great. Interior decor was fascinating.
Cons: Room was rather dark with just one tiny window.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: This hotel served our needs almost perfectly. We wanted an overnight stay on our way to the Algarve, with a pool. The hotel is charming and relaxed, with a fabulous view, a nice breakfast, easy parking, and a very short walk to restaurants in the village of Telheiro. We had considered staying in Monsaraz itself, but this option was much better. For a start, Monsaraz is murder for parking, and we had a fabulous view of Monsaraz from below anyway. It's a 2m drive, so one is right next door practically.
Cons: I can't say there was anything we didn't like. The pool was occupied by noisy children most of the time, but that's not the hotel's fault.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Ivone was one of the most helpful and considerate hosts I’ve ever met! She and the other staff don’t speak English, but they always made me feel like I was in good hands. The property was great as well, beautifully managed inside and out. I also appreciated the room being warm when I arrived, and the wonderful hot shower. I’d love to visit again!
Cons: The water heater seemed to be having trouble my first night, but they had it fixed shortly :)
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Fabulous, quiet, authentic, rural. Wonderful relaxing stay. Loved sitting by the pool, listening to bird song and gentle splashing of the pool water.
Cons: Nothing.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: We had a large room in the beautiful charming casa. It was uniquely decorated with antiques and incorporated stone shelving in the room with beautiful stone floors. The little village is wonderful to walk around and you have amazing views of Monsaraz. The pool was great after a long hot day of exploring the area. Breakfast was delicious and plentiful with fruits, meats, cheese, yogurt, cereals and wonderful fresh warm loafs of bread. Plenty of parking and the wifi was fairly good. Not super fast but good basic wifi. Our room did have AC. We would recommend staying here. What little we didn't like was totally overshadowed by how much we enjoyed our stay.
Cons: It seems the norm in Spain and Portugal but the bed was very firm and we did have a lot of sewer gas odor in the bathroom as can be typical in some older buildings.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Very nice property and room, with impression of being in a farm
Cons: Very dark to arrive at night, kind of scary!!

Pros: The tranquility and charm of the village
Cons: Didn't ever meet the owner
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The house is inside the castle area and its very cozy, amenities and wireless cleanliness it ticked all boxes! From booking to checkout everything was easy and straightforward, the landlady also runs a souvenir shop not far away which is worth visiting too!!!
6.7 Good
Pros: The location was great and the décor was fabulous and the bed was really comfy, linen and towels were pristine
Cons: could have had a toaster for breakfasts as restaurants didn't open til 11, better pillows and the shower head didn't fit the socket very well so kept falling off. Seems a lot of thought into the décor but overlooked simpler things like pillows and crockery and cutlery as were odds and ends.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The location was magic and it was a pleasure to stay in such an original home. We loved the area very much and lovely host.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We liked the decor, the location and the spaciousness.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Everything! Perfect location, great accomodation, the village is absolutely stunning and the various meal and shopping venues were peaceful, good value and pleasurable. Not overly touristy and commercial. Stunning views 360°. I'm moving in!! I loved Monseraz.
Cons: There was no information provided to find access key. I only gained access by hunting the keys down by asking other Casa owners!!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great place in a unique medieval town. You have to know, what to expect: a very old and traditional Portuguese house. We were just looking for that. Though the house itself is aged, it is perfectly redecorated and very very clean. It combines Portuguese traditional furnishing with modern amenities like AC. For us a family of three, it is perfect with two separated bedrooms. There is a small kitchen as well. The major bedroom is large and the bed is very comfy. Patricia, the host is the kindest person and very open with advice and support for a pleasant stay. Our second visit, and it will definitely not be our last. Miuto obrigado pela hospilidade e cordialidade.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: There couldn't be more central location. The room was charming and comfortable.
Cons: Everything was great. They could give recommendations for breakfast.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The location was amazing. We thought Monseraz was a magic place. We arrived as the sun was setting and had to leave quite early the next morning but thought the location was fantastic. The house was very small but the master bedroom large and the decor was amazing. We enjoyed the antique furniture, all the knick-knacks and the artwork of local sites.
Cons: We didn't understand that we couldn't park in the village and had to find a carpark outside. Someone explained that when we unknowingly drove inside. We dropped our bags and luckily found a park in the closet car park. We later discovered that we could park there overnight but had to leave by 11am. It was a long walk over rough cobblestones with our bags to our accommodation. We also had to pick up the keys from a different location to the property. We couldn't have found either location without asking a local. Somehow - and I'm still not sure how it worked out - the person my partner chose to ask was the person with the keys! One other thing we weren't aware of before hand was that there is nowhere (that we could find) in the village to buy breakfast.

Pros: A very comfortable guesthouse, right in the heart of Monsaraz. I highly encourage staying in this small village overnight as it is so tranquil and historic. Good breakfast as well. Staff was very helpful and arranged a taxi for me the next day.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Great location in the hills with lovely views. Friendly staff. Lovely breakfast outside on the terrace. In the centre of the historical town. Comfortable bed.
Cons: Nothing really. Credit card not taken but I think this was just a temporary problem. Bathroom was not in the room but was in the corridor opposite (but this is not a complaint as we knew when we booked that the bathroom was external and it was only for our use so not a problem to us). Not many bars or restaurants open in the town.

Cons: The site attracts quite a few people who park (and double park) on the winding road up to the Rua Direita until the late afternoon. The "free parking" may be some distance from the Casa.

Pros: Views, beautiful courtyard and terrace. Location was perfect and our rooms cute and rustic. Staff very friendly.
Cons: A small fridge would have been great but they kindly stored a few beers for us which was handy as the cafes seem to close in aftermoon till 7pm. We enjoyed the shady courtyard for our own happy hour.

Pros: Very good breakfast. The pool gave us relief from the scortching hot day
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Luigi was simply amazing, very nice, very helpful in every part of our stay. He gave us a few tips on where to eat and what to visit around the Monsaraz area, and everything was perfect. The view is amazing, the place is quite peaceful, but it was a shame we couldn't try the pool because of the cold weather. We'll definitely be going back.
Cons: Nothing relevant that I can remember.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great facilities, amazing view, good breakfast. Feel sorry for not having the time to try the pool.
Cons: Check-in time is not very flexible, so if you're traveling you should take this into account, you need to be there by 19:30 the latest.

Pros: Good breakfast. Nice Italian host - Luigi. Quiet place.
Cons: Long way from restaurants and grocery stores.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very nice place in old portuguese style. Very nice and clean rooms (they get cleaned every day). There is although a pool and bikes to make a trip. Luigi and Claudia the housekeepers where very friendly, kind and helpful. The view on the Alentejo from the house is gorgeous. And all to a very good price. Would always come again and recommend.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Room was lovely, the views and location, and the restaurant recommendations!
Cons: Just a suggestion, not unique to this location but generic, more provision at breakfast for coeliacs!
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Quiet location. Nice breakfast room, view from it and wide choice of food for breakfast.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Quinta Sao Jorge was ideally located for us to visit the area for wine tasting as it is between Reguengos and Monsaraz. It was lovely and quiet but not isolated. The bed was very comfortable and an excellent breakfast was served each morning. The property is spotlessly clean. Luigi the owner was so helpful and knowledgeable. He directed us to Adegas and also to some excellent restaurants. Altogether a wonderful first stay in the Alentejo.
Cons: We didn’t use the pool but that was because it was windy.

Overview Reviews
The exclusive Casa Pinto is situated in the historic town of Monsaraz and is decorated with antiques. This elegant guest house features a rooftop sun terrace which is the perfect place to enjoy a glass of regional wine and relax. The theme of former Portuguese colonies is visible in all accommodations, which are furnished with oriental lanterns and hardwood floorboards. Each private bathroom has mosaic sinks or stone walls and each room has its own scent. Homemade breakfast is served in the dining room or out on the small patio with its flowers. Several restaurants are located within a few minutes’ walk of The Casa Pinto. The rooftop terrace offers a romantic setting to watch the sunset into the hills of the Alentejo countryside. Guests can also enjoy a bottle of local wine in the lounge. Guests will dive in a state of complete peace and tranquillity provided by the ambient music throughout the property. Évora is 45 km away, and free parking is available nearby.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The location was great, room had lovely view of sunset and Portugal, the bed was very comfortable and the room was quite quirky in its decoration which we liked. Great restaurants all around and terrific view and seating area from roof top terrace. We really liked Monsaraz, beautiful place with amazing views. Free parking.
Cons: Couldn't get the shower control to give any hot water. Would have been nice to have some glasses in room to drink from and didn't find a hair dryer.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: The house is in the centre of the old town. You are able to unload the car outside the property but then you have to park it in the town car park which is free. Raul who runs the property appears to be the receptionist, breakfast cook and cleans the bedrooms. He is delightful but I feel it is too much for him to do alone. The breakfast is lovely, hot rolls and croissants, homemade jams, cheese and meat. If you are a tea drinker Raul boils a kettle on the stove so the tea is steaming. Makes such a change to hot water dispensers which are never hot enough. The house has a quirky feel. I think the owner has traveled a lot and brought back many antiques and ideas. The roof terrace is a delight and you can see for miles.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Fantastic views, quirky rooms very comfortable bed. location marvellous.
Cons: Breakfast basic but adequate.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Great experience staying within the walls, great location, friendly host.
Cons: Being on the main street can be noisy
7.5 Good
Pros: Quirky character, very Portugese and good location.
Cons: The smell from the shower drain which went the next morning after we used it. No soap or shampoo. Breakfast was fair, not good.
4.6 Okay
Pros: the location of this historical village and the restaurant Taverna
Cons: the room failed on all our expectations , primarily we did NOT feel the property was clean , poor basic facilities , the property has clearly lacked investment over the past 3-5 years at a guess . poor breakfast with evidence of flies
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Raul, welcomed us in a very friendly manner and set the tone for a perfect stay. We loved our little room with a stunning view and the overall atmosphere of the place. The charming rooftop is a great place to bring some wine and cheese to and enjoy a beautiful sunset. It is one of the most romantic places we have ever stayed in. We would definitely recommend it to friends and hope to come back for another visit.
Cons: Nothing.
5.0 Okay
Pros: Breakfast was poor. The location was excellent
Cons: The bathroom was dirty and very dusty. The Bath Towels were damp. The floor under the bed and in the corners were very dusty.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The location of Casa Pinto is perfect. Monsaraz is a very old and small town on a hill that looks over the whole region. The room we had had a gorgeous view over the region from the bedroom window! There was also a roof terrace with the same gorgeous view and a relaxed spot to have a drink. The room was decorated in an Asian/Middle Eastern style and waking up was really like a fairytale!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful, eclectic, comfortable, amazing views, yummy breakfast, fun host (Raoul), and other interesting guests - a great stay in a very special place.

Pros: The View was superb and the staff was very friendly and very helpful. The room was clean and tidy and it was all very peaceful and quiet, just what we were looking for!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: This was one of the finest experiences I had in Portugal! The place is just stunning and everything is just right. The staff.. wow.. they were always making sure we were happy, and even let us use the pool and the facilities after our check-out. The place is amazing, the staff is unbelievably amazing and kind. If you want to get blown away this is the place!! Everything was super clean, the breakfast was really good and you always have free coffee (you even have a coffee machine in your bed). Also they were fully booked but because they don't have a lot of rooms, it's always quite and peaceful.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: The building is very beautiful. The room was good and clean. The breakfast very good. The staff very nice.
Cons: It looks that there are many things to be repaired specially the garden, the furniture existing at the garden and for this reason I feel that the price is excessive.
6.3 Good
Pros: The estalagem benefits from the amazing location that is Monsaraz. It is easy to find although parking can be difficult in high season.
Cons: We have stayed in Monsaraz many times, both in the estalagem and other houses inside the walls. Monsaraz is a charming location always relaxing amid fabulous surrounding scenery deep in the Alentejo. In past years this relaxed quirkiness was also reflected in the estalagem. A warm, friendly welcome with staff relaxed and happy to help whatever. However, it now apparently has new management. Staff are now required to wear uniform and do not appear to smile much and, at reception, spend a lot of time on the mobile. We arrived and were warmly welcomed by a young lady, as in past years, not in uniform who appeared to be working back of house. We were shown to our room which, like most accommodation in Monsaraz is fairly basic but for the prices very good value. There was a shower which did not work and I complained to reception where the uniformed receptionist seemed almost in tears and appeared to agree that things were not good under the new management. The building is fully wired, but it seems that each bedroom has its own network address and the staff did not seem to be able to cope with giving the required network code. We were told that breakfast would be served at 8am. We had a long journey ahead to the Algarve so arrived at 7.55 only to find there was no sign of any preparation of breakfast. We left on our journey without breakfast. It is sad, because in past years when we have stayed at the estalagem, we could not really fault it.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very friendly staff, optimal location, excelent conditions. Would return for sure.
