it was short
no restaurant on both evenings - kitchen said to be out of commission. Food was being served in dining room but only to Portuguese National jet-ski contestants, we were informed this food was brought in from another restaurant.

Definitely the place to be if you want to explore the mid-section of the Douro River. A very spacious place, a huge bathroom, very quiet, perfect if you are looking for a resting place
Just forget about the breakfast. Choices are close to nil, and their quality is 0. No regional products, no proper scrambled eggs, no proper juices, I even got rotten (although fresh) grapes. Skip the breakfast at this hotel and get a proper breakfast at a nearby restaurant called The Gentleman

Good location for Douro valley
The town itself is pretty unattractive with very little in the way of bars and restaurants so not suitable for long stays at this hotel. The main disappointment was that there was not outside eating facilities as advertised - were told that this is only used for special occasions. The weather was glorious so it was annoying to have to eat inside. Also, the swimming pool is next to a road - screened by hedges but still noisy.
