10.0 Excellent
Pros: Excellent welcome by the owners. Very nice people. The first impression when we arrived in a cold night with a staying room warmed by a chimney was great, providing a charming atmosphere, enhanced by the rustic furniture. Beautiful room and good breakfast.
Cons: Nothing.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Very comfortable bed & good linen. Rosa (the owner) very helpful and pleasant.
Cons: Finding the place was a nightmare! Google maps takes you to the village, which rambles & all of the buildings look exactly the same as the hotel. There are no street names.. For anyone else wanting to find the hotel - pull over outside church (next to bar) where Google info runs out. Take the road to the left and carry on 200 yards to a park on your right. The road splits. Stay to the left and its approx 5 houses along there. There is a VERY small sign outside. You need to open the driveway gate walk to the house and ring the bell. There is no phone no (but Rosa doesn't speak English, so you would need a Spanish person to make the call!) To confuse further, there is another hotel called Casa Rural on the lower road - that's where we were sent to and there was no one in except a large dog - pretty scary when its getting dark! Parking is on the grass verge next to the driveway - fine when we're the only guests - not sure where everyone would park if more of you?
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The host! And it was very clean..
10.0 Excellent

8.0 Excellent
Pros: The manager was very good. She was very attentive, hard working and was the best part of our stay.
Cons: The noise from the bar outside the hotel, and the traffic waiting at the traffic lights outside our window was very loud into the early hours. Fine if you are wide away, not great if you want to sleep before 3am on a weekend stay.

Pros: Beautiful building set in a quiet location. On-site parking - and if you have a motorcycle, right by the main entrance. Rooms are lovely, spacious, clean and comfortable. Good shower. The evening meal was superb, as was breakfast. The local bottled beer is very nice! Stay here and you won’t be disappointed. Well done to the owners.
Cons: There’s little not to like about the property. There’s no air-con. The cow-bells and cockerels start early but I’m being picky because there’s little to fault.
9.5 Excellent

Hotel El Convento de Mave - Santa María de Mave - Building
4
8.9 Excellent (369 reviews)

A stay at Hotel El Convento de Mave places you in the heart of Aguilar de Campoo, a 1-minute drive from Monastery of Santa María de Mave and 9 minutes from Monasterio de Santa Clara. The front desk is staffed during limited hours. Free self parking is available onsite.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: This hotel is amazing! It is beautifully decorated keeping all the character of the old monastery but also very modern.
Cons: There was nothing I did not like.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Location was very convenient for the motorway en route to Portugal. The building itself (a converted convent) is very interesting architecturally if a trifle sombre in places (but what can you expect). The evening meal was very good and breakfast excellent continental buffet usual in these places. The room itelf was very interesting and comfortable with all mod cons. The Reception staff are outstandingly friendly and helpful. Good free parking and nice gardens.
Cons: Nothing really. It's exceptionally rural with nothing much around it, but as we were in transit, this wasn't an issue. We'd stay there again.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: This place is amazing, the attention to detail is superb. The food in the restaurant was very good. The member of staff who checked us in was incredibly helpful and could not for enough for us, he made sure we had everything we needed.
Cons: No air conditioning
6.8 Good
Pros: Beautifully restored convent
Cons: Not for people with light sleepers. Poor quality mattress, cannot turn while in bed without it squeaking. Sleeping on the sofa bed it’s impossible, even for small children
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Staff and the building itself
Cons: Nothing
5.5 Okay
Pros: Lovely old building and staff attentive and welcoming.
Cons: Externally it looked unkempt needed weeding . Outside of the main entrance was a large square pond / water feature which was stagnant covered in algae- un oxygenated water which was a mosquito breeding ground . The main garden was lovely but needed attention . Unfortunately the food was poor quality for the price - both meals served without veg only homemade? Crisps.
5.0 Okay
Pros: Comfy nights sleep
Cons: No atmosphere, very dull
6.8 Good
Pros: Room was fantastic.
Cons: Lack of bar service, lovely sunny day but no sun loungers - the tables and chairs in the garden were covered in bird droppings
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful atmosphere, modern and artistic look combined with old elements. Good deal for combination dinner and breakfast (27.50 € pp), very nice food, great atmosphere. Very friendly staff: when I complained on temperature in bedroom, a much cooler alternative was provided.
Cons: Mattresses were fairly hard
8.0 Excellent
Pros: The grounds of this hotel are extensive and delightful. It's country location is idyllic and the buildings themselves have been sympathetically restored. Once available (see below) the staff were polite and helpful.
Cons: Although the bed was very comfortable, our room was dark and had no view. The en suite loo had a cobweb in it and the flushing system had broken so it flushed fully every time, even when unnecessary. The light switching control in the room was complex and difficult to get right. The hotel also operates as a venue for weddings and parties. We stayed over a week end when a large First Communion reception party was being held in the grounds of the hotel, which put fairly severe pressure on the staff (particularly in the bar), leading to a loss of customer service levels. Although it was spelled out on the hotel's booking form, the practice of taking your money in full before you actually arrive is, in my opinion, unacceptable. A deposit on booking and/or a penalty if you don't turn without due notice is much more so.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: An impressive building sympathetically renovated in wonderful surroundings, which provided the ideal backdrop for a very enjoyable stay.
Cons: Almost every aspect was great. If I was pushed to provide constructive criticism, then I think that more careful selection of fruit for breakfast would be beneficial (ripeness and condition)
7.0 Good
Pros: Staff were extremely helpful and attentive
Cons: Found the interior decor in the public areas much too dark and austere with the exception of the dinning room. Bedroom fine.
4.4 Okay
Pros: Beautiful building
Cons: No lift, difficult stairs for an older person. Cold food in the dining rooom which had to be returned

9.5 Excellent
Pros: The owner was very welcoming - we were the only guests that night. He got his friend who runs a hotel in the town to come up and look after us when he had to go out. He was very friendly and helpful too. The hotel is set on its own in a beautiful mountain landscape and attached to a working chapel. Hotel, food, room all excellent.
Cons: No problems at all.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: This is a surprise packet tucked away in rural Spain and is well worth a visit for local culture. Friendly staff and Honorio has good English speaking skills.
Cons: There is nothing not to like about this place.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The owner went out of his way to give us a friendly welcome and provide food at a late hour.
Cons: It is difficult to find being in a remote location but the latter is part of its charm.
7.5 Good
Pros: As we expected, this does not set out to be a luxury hotel. It is clean, friendly and comfortable, with pleasant immediate surroundings but the village has little to offer to the visitor (we did not have time to visit the churches, which may well be interesting).
Cons: Not a criticism, but potential visitors need to understand that this is a historically interesting monastic building which has been sympathetically converted to provide plain but comfortable hotel-style accommodation.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything. Situation. Room. Welcome. Particularly our host. This is a small hotel of great charm and character.
Cons: Nothing
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Location and the building was historic
Cons: Nothing
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The owner and his lovely wife are great people. They help you were they can . The food was more than delicious , it was superb! The owner shows outstanding hospitality.
Cons: The only thing I didn't like is that we only stayed one night
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Friendly welcome by our host. We arrived quite late (ferry delayed) at about 9.00 pm, and we were given a hot meal of our choice - the steak was tender, which was a bonus! This place is right in the middle of the countryside, and we noticed people out walking, so it would probably be a good place for ramblers!
Cons: Nothing negative to say...... but don't try and find this place without a GPS!
9.5 Excellent
Pros: This was a lovely place. The attache church was very impressive. We had a wonderful meal in the bar provided by the owner. The owner was easy to get along with. His English was very good and he provided all sorts of local information.
Cons: Nothing and will stay again.
6.8 Good
Pros: Dog friendly & beautiful location
Cons: Attractive old building with church attached. Great welcome from Miguel. Tranquil location for walking

Pros: So very warm and welcoming. Our motorcycles were kindly put in a garage and the owners very kindly made us something to eat despite us being a bit useless and not prearranging this. Just a fantastic place to stay up in the hills but not too far away from the main route. Really lovely quiet village and great owners. It’s not as corporate as the photos suggest, which is a very good thing. Highly recommended.

Pros: Room on 2 levels. TV and jacuzzi upstairs and bed on lower level. Proprietor speaks good English and was very helpful.
Cons: A bit remote. Could do with directions to help find.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Return visit and reassuringly quiet and comfortable. Good location for cycling and archaeological sites. Lunchtime restaurant service is good.
Cons: No evening restaurant service during our stay due to proprietor's childcare problems (so check ahead for evening meal availability as other nearby local restaurants don't offer an evening service either).
8.8 Excellent
Cons: A meal available on Sunday evening in the restaurant instead of a cold supper in my room.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Amazing view of the snow covered mountains stunning, We arrived late and the restaurant was close but the host provide us with a delicious plater.
Cons: Had to leave the next day would have liked a long walk in the mountains but we had a tight schedule.

Cons: Can't fault it
10.0 Excellent
Pros: This is our third stay at this fabulous property and we love it. Extremely comfortable and spacious duplex rooms with a wonderful spa bath for two - what a treat :) lovely food and we are welcomed as old friends by Sonja who is super helpful and friendly, always keen to ensure our motorbike is accommodated too! Sad to leave after just 1 night, the property is in a perfect location for traveling to/from the ferry ports, easily accessible :) thank you so much xx
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Lovely welcome from the owner. Room was very comfortable and roomy being on two floors, very nice.
Cons: Breakfast could consist of more eg. orange juice, fresh fruit, cereal, fresh pastries and croissants
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Service was awesome, room was far better than expected (almost a full loft in itself), even with a jacuzzi in it. We got quite tired after some activity, and were not in the mood to go somewhere else for dinner. We were offered some cold dinner that ended being a marvelous big salad and awesome cold cuts. Its perhaps a little more expensive than other places around, but its totally worth!
Cons: Nothing. Everything was as good as you would expect, or better. Even been isolated is not a problem, as there is a quite big town 10 minutes away.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Repeat visit, and although the restaurant was closed we were served a very nice meal in no time at all. Usual great service and very comfortable and warm. (Snow on mountains still!).

Cons: Signposting to the hotel
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great reception on arrival and they arranged a really super dinner for us all made from local ingredients, fantastic overall stay.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The property was small and beautifully renovated. The facilities were clean and perfectly adequate for our one night stopover before catching the ferry in Santander. The host was most helpful, quite charming and spoke good English. His wife was a lovely lady who cooked a delightful evening meal for us, served in the dining area above their well stocked bar. In all an excellent place to stay.
Cons: Sadly, only one thing was wrong. In our room the shower head in the bathroom was faulty and resulted in water being sprayed all over the nicely appointed bathroom.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Nice, quiet, family-run place in a sleepy little town. There are several rooms with a large common area for hanging out with other guests and also where the breakfast is served. Parking is easy and ample on the street.
Cons: Breakfast was an additional €5, but it's really the only game in town, so if you want to eat it's your only choice. It was very nice and plentiful, though. The restaurant is also the only option in town for dinner, but you have to let the owner know ahead of time if you'll be eating there.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Excellent help from owners father and lovely clean accommodation Staff next morning very kind and could not do more to make our stay perfect
Cons: All was good
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Very good restaurant, but slightly expensive.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything fine
Cons: Booking.com said we booked the last room. In fact there was only one other room occupied and the restaurant was therefore closed. The owner was however extremely helpful and friendly and the breakfast was generous. We were given good instruction on getting to a good restaurant not too far away. We would choose this casa rural again because it was really good, but not book it through booking.com because they lie.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: A really nice patio, great for kids; comfortable and bright lounge; charming bar right across the patio; lots of tourist information available; parking right outside; people in the town were friendly; it was interesting walking around the old old town. . We also liked the host and hostess. It was very clean.
Cons: The room itself was acceptable, but nothing special.

Featured amenities include complimentary newspapers in the lobby, dry cleaning/laundry services, and multilingual staff. Free self parking is available onsite.
7.5 Good
Pros: Really nice staff. Good onsite restaurant. As far from a corporate hotel as you can get. Interesting monastery museum
Cons: No aircon. Very quirky rooms you'll either love or hate.
4.3 Okay
Cons: Staff attitude poor. Waiter in restaurant messed up our evening food order so we ended up with one starter and one main meal. We shared the starter as fed up waiting. Main was a leg of lamb which we also shared but could not eat as stone cold inside. We complained to the chef and said 'touch the meat it is frozen inside'. He would not. We left without paying and went to our room hungry. Shocking sloppy 'service'. Room floor sharp and dangerous outside bathroom. Bathroom door would not shut. Shower poor. Shabby and needs updating. No air conditioning.
7.0 Good
Pros: Food and service were very good. The setting of the hotel was lovely
Cons: The sleeping arrangements were cramped for 2 people
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful location, amazing building. Clean, quiet, friendly and helpful staff. Muchas Gracias.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Short walking distance to centre of town, plenty of free parking. Wednesday market. Friendly staff, price of meals at hotel were very good, 24euros for 2 people for 3 course meal each and bottle of wine.
Cons: Did not like to have to climb ackward stairs in bedroom to reach double bed, no barrier to stop you falling out of bottom of bed, about 2 metre drop. Not recommended for anyone with an infirmety.
7.0 Good
Pros: This hotel is set on the edge of town in a very peaceful and quiet area. We loved it, it's a bit quirky but the staff are very helpful, spoke english and as it is a restored monastery it has some lovely features.
Cons: If booking this hotel you need to be aware of the following. If a heatwave is forecast there is no air conditioning in the bedroom. Access to your bed is via a staircase. Not for those with limited mobility. The bathroom is very small and the bath is custom made to fit the width of the room.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Really lively town and the hotel is located within the historic monastery. Staff could not have been more helpful. Nothing too much trouble and beautiful building. Rooms a bit funky as virtually all the rooms are old cells with beds on a mezzanine arrangement. Ok as long as you can get up and down the steps.
Cons: The rain in the mountains in July!
6.3 Good
Pros: The setting was beautiful. The look of the building was very picturesque. The location.
Cons: The bedroom and bathroom. I know it's an old monastery, but could be renovated better. Breakfast was disappointing, no choice and expensive.
7.0 Good
Pros: The café for tea, coffee, hot chocolate (BTW superb) was an added bonus. The staff were exceptionally helpful. We were initially assigned one of the bedrooms in the main building, which had a bed on a mezzanine with steep stairs. They readily saw our problem of access, and changed us to a 'monk's cell' in the adjacent block. Colder, but much more accessible for us.
Cons: The unsurfaced car park, just outside the property, has lots of pot holes - and creates a poor first impression.
