Pros: Rural location - so peaceful and quiet. The accommodation was clean and well presented. The hosts were fantastic and helpful. We only stayed for one night but couldn't fault anything about our stay and would most definitely return.
Cons: There was nothing we didn't like about our stay.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Quiet country location, superb breakfast
Cons: Parking space was a little cramped
10.0 Excellent
Pros: A fantastic place - beautiful location with great gardens and surroundings - you have freedom to spend time around the pond and explore the garden, which looks great at night with lanterns hanging in the trees. The room was spotlessly clean and tidy and the breakfast was amazing. The customer service is also first class - Dan made us feel very welcome throughout our stay. Very highly recommended and we will certainly be back!
Cons: Nothing negative whatsoever!

Pros: Fantastic hosts and superb accommodation. Location with magnificent views right in the countryside. Customer service was extraordinary and not to forget the magnifico breakfast. Rooms were superb with a 4 poster Queen size bed which we didn't actually want to get out of. Would highly highly recommend.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Fantastic little hideaway. Clean, comfortable, and imaginatively furnished keeping in character with the accommodation. Beautiful gardens. Hosts were very welcoming. I loved everything about it.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Fantastic decor - the owners have spent a huge amount of time and money creating a wonderful place to stay. I have stayed in many places around the UK over the last 25 years, and this would be in the top 3. Ratings don't lie - this is a perfect place to stay! Very comfy huge bed, rain or normal shower, separate kitchen area with hob and microwave, and all extremely competitively priced. Owners were really friendly and helpful. Thoroughly recommended!
Cons: Slow and sometimes intermittent wifi and not much EE mobile phone signal (perhaps neither surprising given country location of B&B).
10.0 Excellent
Pros: This BnB is one of the best I’ve ever been to, the cleanliness, the quirkinesses, the quality, friendliness and staff are amazing we couldn’t of ask for anymore. This little BnB had everything a more to fit the needs of me, myself and 3 year old daughter. Brilliant night stay and amazing breakfast, highly recommend.
Cons: Couldn’t fault in anyway. Was outstanding!

Pros: Lovely location which is in the heart of the country, we chose this place to stay when we came down for my Brothers wedding. My sons booked for one night, myself, Husband and Mother for two. Rooms were spotless and equipped with everything we needed, Breakfast was great we had a large full English, toast etc. Hosts amazing and helpful, (even when we had to disturb there sleep because my mother fell ill and had to go to hospital, then having to cut our stay early because of this), They went out of there way to help. Will love to use this place again when visiting my Brother.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Joan brought us a pot of hot chocolate and lovely cakes on our arrival... what a great start. We visited at Easter and there were treats everywhere! The room was like a suite, very comfortable, great bed and shower, and lots of special little touches. We also had a spa bath and a mini sauna in our room and just not enough time to try everything out! The breakfast was superb... the full english was the tastiest I've ever had and you couldn't ask for more on the buffet table! Great location, we are walkers and you can do that straight from the house, or Wirksworth and comprehensive trails are all within 15 minutes. Some great, varied, pubs for eating in the nearby area as recommended by Joan
Cons: This is so minor... but breakfast was really quiet... with everyone whispering because it was so quiet. I think if there was some some upbeat music playing, at low level, it would just break the ice a bit... almost giving people permission to make a noise themselves and then start conversations between the tables
7.0 Good
Cons: waiting time for breakfast too long and did not get all these amazing local made products .
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The staff were so welcoming , the breakfasts outstanding and the room was awesome.
Cons: Would have been nice if an evening meal was available but this will not stop me from coming back.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The room was beautiful and the breakfast was so good my partner is still talking about it 3 weeks later!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The location was remote and beautifully quiet! Our room was extremely comfortable, especially the 4 poster bed which was just a joy to sleep in. The staff could not be any more helpful and extremely friendly However, a special mention must go to the quality, (and size!), of the breakfasts, which included locally sourced produce and even bread baked on site.
Cons: In all honesty for our needs, there was nothing we didn't like. The surrounding roads are accessible with care but that is nothing to do with the hosts and the quality and comfort of the facilities
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Brilliant friendly staff, gave us options and upgraded us to a lovely granary room with private hot tub. Had a perfect time will definitely be booking again!

Pros: Everything! Elliot House was so beautifully appointed and spacious. There were 6 adults and 4 children in our party and we could easily have fitted two more children in! Nothing has been overlooked, it was so nice to be able to keep on top of the washing whilst we were there. The Hot tub kept everyone well entertained during the wet weather! The children (and adults) absolutely loved the Orchard and the tour provided by Vic, it’s a must do during your stay. Vic, Rachel and Oliver we all friendly and welcoming from initial booking right to leaving at the end of our holiday. The park, play area and fields were brilliant for the children - the whole site is very safe and secure. We will definitely be back!!
Cons: There really wasn’t anything!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Absolutely stunning property. Can’t fault anything. The staff and facilities were all fantastic. We will definitely be coming back.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Play area for kids is superb!
Cons: I was not aware we were getting Wine Cellar apartment before we came.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Excellent grounds - flood-lit footie pitch, secluded bbq areas, great play area for kiddies with seating and chillout areas for adults. Walled-garden farm, with meerkats, peacocks, pigs, chickens, sheep and lots of beautiful birds/fowl. Attention to detail inside the accommodation, and plenty of equipment/amenities. Tastefully decorated and sweet little private garden with seating/table. BBQ area was a nice touch, especially being provided with all the bbq kit needed, then being able to just leave it all there and not have to clean it all up! nice treat... Vic on the farm was a delight, he took the kiddies on a tour of the farm garden and allowed them to collect eggs (lots of eggs!) and meet all of the animals, and feed them too. A really nice touch. Our kids were loved it all.....
Cons: In the name of balance I must comment that the Mattress wasnt great, shower wasnt either. Those were the only comments. There is a train track passing nearby, just as a sidenote comment, you will hear the trains.

Pros: Rooms were nice
Cons: Only one bath towel when we spoke we were told that if they put 2 in then single guests use both but maybe they should check booking and see there was 2 of us I had to dry myself with hand towel , not good enough plus good is restaurant wasn't good . 4 of us ordered starters only 2 came out sat waiting ten mins while ours went cold went to complain was told others hadn't ordered they had we all ordered
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Staff, decor, size of bedroom and quality of food. All for a reasonable room rate.
Cons: The only thing we can say that we didn't like was the emergency green power light in the bedroom which lit up the whole room ALL night.
6.3 Good
Pros: Very nice location and reasonably quiet.
Cons: 1. Asking me what I wanted for breakfast made me think it was included in the booking price! I should have been asked first if I had in fact ordered it! I was there for a funeral so had more important issues to see to. So an extra £40.00 thank you very much! 2. Finding a toenail in my bed!! 3. Booked a twin room, got a double! The staff quickly realised this and opened up the bed settee which wasn't that comfy.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great food, room excellent, staff brilliant

4.5 Okay
Pros: Hotel itself was nice, downstairs area and outside area was lovely
Cons: The honeymoon suite... just pleased I wasn’t just married....very drab and tired room ... cheap coffee and not even a complimentary biscuit....could you not have chosen a better room for the honeymoon suite rather than overlooking a petrol station ?
8.0 Excellent
Pros: The place was lovely! Staff friendly, clean etc lovely breakfast!’
Cons: We was in room 6! Room was lovely, clean and comfortable. We expected noise from downstairs and the road, as advised, however, that was no problem. The problem was the fire door outside the room, constantly banging, when people going to and from their rooms!! This kept me awake!! I understand there has to be fire doors, but surely this could be made more quiet when shutting? It spoilt an overwise a lovely stay!!
7.0 Good
Pros: stayed before so new what to exoect
Cons: The chef didn`t know how to cook poached eggs properly, came out like golf balls, Bacon and sausages a bit overcooker, probably done in oven and left for too long in the residuakl heat making the hard on outside.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Good breakfast , staff very good, parking very good
Cons: Noise from street was awful, had room overlooking petrol station and had very little sleep all night .
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything
Cons: Nothing
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Staff were extremely welcoming and friendly-nothing was too much trouble. The atmosphere was warm and inviting- the cleanliness was very high standard.
Cons: The bathroom was extremely old and the configuration of the room was difficult to manage-it is an old pub and we probably did not get the best room as we booked late-
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Spotless, comfortable room. Excellent venue/room/catering for the wedding reception we attended
Cons: A silly thing really, but an overcooked poached egg spoiled an otherwise lovely breakfast
7.5 Good
Pros: Rooms very nice and nice comfy bed
Cons: Very poor shower. Was no power in the shower so it just trickled out. The rooms was so hot my 22 week pregnant girlfriend ended up having a panic attack because her anxiety made her feel trapped.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything food was excellent hotel was beautiful I'd love to stay again
Cons: Trying to get a taxi!
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Location
Cons: Not locking entrance doors at 11pm making it that you have to ring bell and wait for night porter who can take time to respond

Pros: Historic building
Cons: Limited food options
6.3 Good
Cons: A bit tired and if you going to charge £70 you should be able to poach an egg, there were only 4 people at breakfast so no rush
8.3 Excellent

Cons: Curtains a bit dusty but everything else very clean.
7.0 Good
Pros: Breakfast great. Fruits, cheeses, cereals, fruit juice + good choice of breakfast inc Kippers, superb eggs benedict.
Cons: No evening menu / bar snacks
7.5 Good
Pros: The bedroom was large and well presented - comfortable bed. Bathroom v large , good sized shower and lovely and warm . The towels were large and fluffy. The breakfast had a wide choice of fresh fruit, yoghurt, cereals etc plus a wide choice of cooked breakfast - which was cooked freshly and the portions were very generous.
Cons: Unfortunately it was very quiet - so it lacked atmosphere. The drive way into venue Lack of directions to hotel - no signage off Main Road.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast was great more than I would have expected, Enough coffee with the breakfast and cup after. The location was very good walking distance to the town. I now know what it is like to feel rich for a night, excellent all round.
Cons: Not a thing.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: We were upgraded to the largest room in the hotel. It was massive and with a bathroom the size of most hotel bedrooms. Considering it was cheaper than any other hotel including travel lodge etc I couldn't believe the quality we received. The bed was a massive four poster. The breakfast was one of the best we have had at a hotel and included fresh strawberries and blueberries. They catered for my gluten free diet very well.
Cons: It is located next to an NHS facility which isn't very attractive. But the view from our bedroom window was beautiful over some fields. Some parts of the hotel look a little tired but they are busy renovating and redecorating. Our room was well decorated and would make a fine bridal suite.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: The staff and location and breakfast
Cons: A bit messy around the back of the building And dinner menu every linited
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast was good with fresh fruit and juice and a big full English on offer. Gluten and lactose free options. Fantastic room with the wow factor! Huge bathroom with two chandeliers! Very friendly and helpful staff. We recommend the Blue Bell at South Wingfield for dinner (closed Mondays) and The Dog at Pentrich, both within 10 mins drive. Very reasonable hotel rates.
Cons: Alfreton isn't attractive but this hotel is hidden away behind the main street next to beautiful grounds, now the local park.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Staff were very friendly
Cons: Would have enjoyed comfy chairs on the veranda with some shade

Cons: No duvet on daughters z bed Overpriced restaurant and some poor food.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Very nice room. Comfy bed. Excellent staff.
Cons: The menu choices. Lots of chips. Not a lot of healthy options. Menu better at premier in across the road.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: - How friendly every member of staff we came across was. - The way the kids were treated especially the VIK bands and the free kids meals in the restaurant. - How comfy, spacious and clean the rooms were. - Been able to use the leisure facilities.
Cons: - The changing rooms in the swimming pool were freezing but that is all :)
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Clean and well appointed. Rooms seemed to have been recently renovated. Reasonable sized pool, well equipped gym area utilising resistance machines and a few free weights. Good clear bar/dining areas.
Cons: Disabled parking not clearly assigned, signs pointed one way, parking was the other.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Staff and location
Cons: Bed was too hard but that’s it.
7.5 Good
Pros: Breakfast was great!
Cons: Aircon in room was not working and they didn't have any fans
6.3 Good
Pros: Newly refurbished carpets etc
Cons: Every time I turned on the bedside light it blew the fuse and all lights went out. They had to reboot 4 times. So when I went to use the phone to let them know. I found it had no dial tone. It looks like its connected but it isn't, the wire just goes into a space behind the panel. When you shower the water leaks on to the floor and pools around the door frame.
10.0 Excellent
Cons: Everything was fine there was nothing I didn't like. My bed was very comfortable and the shower was excellent.

4.5 Okay
Pros: Evening food was good . breakfast resonable
Cons: 1st room smelt damp and the floor was wet, no wifi in the room. Moved to another room far better room but still no wifi
5.0 Okay
Pros: The event we attended was very good but the rest was rubbish.
Cons: The room smelt as if it had been flooded at some point and not properly dried out. The fittings in both the bedroom and shower room were worn, the pillows were like a bag of rocks - made do with the decorative cushions as it was very late when we turned in. Told reception on checking out that they were all ready for the bin and was met with a blank stare. At breakfast the table was not laid and no attempt was made to do so, staff just bought cutlery etc with each course, we never did get any napkins. Breakfast itself was mediocre.
5.0 Okay
Pros: Breakfast fine, very good location
Cons: No hot water in the morning.
4.5 Okay
Pros: The location was stunning. I love the sense of history.
Cons: Even though we had one of the hotel's best rooms, the sofa was filthy and I didn't want to sit on it. The carpet was old and dirty. The bottoms of the curtains were filthy and there was a damp and mouldy smell to the room.
6.3 Good
Pros: I loved the location and the main bullding
Cons: The scruffiness of the cottages , stained carpets , dirty Windows, Clients from main building allowed to drink outside till early hours .
4.5 Okay
Pros: Leaving. The view and setting is very nice, the hotel looks nice, it is very photogenic. The staff did try their hardest.
Cons: The rooms in the cottage, they are small, damp smelling, uncomfortable and extremely noisy. There is no porter service for a seemingly 4 star hotel. Cobwebs and signs of rot and broken and lose fittings in the cottages. There is no air con and you cannot open the windows as it opens directly onto the road into the hotel. Maybe the hotel itself is better. Service in the hotel is wanting and the selection in the bar for such a large hotel is disappointing. There is not enough staff, delays and overwhelmed staff resulting in poor service and management losing a grip on the situation. Overbooked and not enough supplies does not help.
4.3 Okay
Pros: Location
Cons: The room wasn’t clean, smelt damp, lots of cobwebs and spiders, dirty floor, dirty bath and shower area. The walk way up to the room in the cottage style house was dirty, run down and looked like something from a campsite. There was a wedding on when we arrived, they were over run, couldn’t cope, drunken people swearing in the restaurant and lots of people waiting to be served. The food came out cold and after returning it 3times still came back cold, terrible service. They didn’t charge for the one meal because it was still cold after 3 attempts but it still didn’t change the fact that we were very disappointed. We were the first ones there for breakfast the next morning and there was hardly any pastries out, as I said before, the hotel was full, just put more pastries out, it’s not rocket science!
3.3 Mediocre
Pros: Location was good, beautiful setting by the river. Breakfast was good.
Cons: Room was very tired, looked like it was 10 years or more past being updated. Really let down the great location, which was a shame.
