I would particularly like to recommend the staff who were very hard working, and consistently smiling and helpful. Even when very busy, and we were waiting for a table, they made sure we were helped and informed...and with no sense of the pressure they must have been under. Having worked myself in hospitality and busy restaurants, I know full well how tough it can be, so I really appreciated their friendly service and constant smiles. Small details, which seem petty to speak about considering how much we enjoyed our stay, but such as the light pull in the bathroom was a frayed bit of cord. Lighting over mirror in room made it difficult to put on make-up (essential to ladies of a certain age!. A personal dislike is shower curtains, they cling!
room decor tastefully done, food and staff excellent - would recommend this hotel to anyone.
Welcoming helpful staff. Clean and very comfortable room. Great breakfast! Although the food was excellent, there was no snack/light meal menu available in the evenings - e.g salads/sandwiches etc.
From start to finish the level of help from all of the staff members was excellent. None
Service was excellent and we were looked after very well. Food in the restaurant was of a very high standard. Nothing
i arrived late and the service was oitstanding. staff arranged for room service for both dinner and breakfast bed was too soft for me
Excellent, could not fault it. Lovely room, excellent staff, superb food. Shall certainly return for a longer stay. None
Excellent food and friendly staff No communal area in the bar for just having a drink etc - very much a restaurant with rooms
Food was excellent. Room was nice but basic.
Excellent meals in the charming restaurant. Very friendly and efficient staff, mostly young well-trained eu citzens. Room very comfortable, clean and light. I looked for bad points but was unable to find any!
Breakfast was ok Old and tired. In need of renovation. Heating very poor and it was - 8 outside. Staff not interested.
The style of the hotel was in keeping with the building and the city itself, the food was very good
Excellent food in bar and restuarant. Good service; large and comfortable rooms.
the relaxing enviroment and friendly.
Very traditional hotel with character
We were especially impressed with the politeness and efficiency of the staff. The food, Breakfast and Dinner, was excellent and made the stay a very pleasant experience. room was adequate the breakfast however was excellent buffets can be poor but here the staff brought the food through in small amounts rather than by the tray full and as aresult the food was very fresh and of suberb quality. Room was serviced before we had checked out.
Good location and good sized rooms.
Breakfast very good Staff excellent Rooms although comfortable and clean need upgrading
The elegance of the building, the formal gardens and the willingness of the staff to be helpful and charming.
Staff and services are very good and polite. Wonderful setting. Very good food. Very good sauna. Nothign really. The shower at the bathroom could be a little better. It is still 9 out of 10.
The service as reflected in the enthusiasm and commitment of all the staff to provide memorable service which thwe customer wanted and of which they could take pride
The atmosphere and family feel The exercise room was disappointing and having to book that and the spa rather than being able to use it all the time was disappointing
The grounds and locality. Not too far from Theakston's Brewery !
Peace and quiet, friendly polite staff. Beautiful surroundings. Good breakfast. Bar Menu and drinks overpriced. Quantity of food was small but quality very good.
All the staff were extremely friendly and helpful, I haven't got a bad word to say about the hotel. Dinner prices were quite expensive, but the quality was fantastic.
Staff were excellent Food was expensive, breakfast was cold
Beautiful surroundings, excellent food, good friendly service, large rooms. This hotel manages to be high end and luxurious but also copes well with small children. The overall very good quality experience was let down slightly by the slow and unattentive service when dining in the bar.
We were just staying overnight but enjoyed a walk in the extensive and very pretty grounds, both on the day we arrived and the following morning. The house is amazing and steeped in history. Not a complaint but a disappointment - the restaurant was one of the main attractions as it was a birthday treat, however the evening menu was so sparce and uninteresting that neither of us fancied it. So we ate in the bar instead. Again not a lot of choice but enjoyed what we had and the service and attention we received was excellent.
Enjoyed first class quality and service.A thoroughly enjoyable stay and look forward to an early return. Only a minor criticism in that service during dinner was a little too rushed.
Front desk staff very helpful. Spa facilities excellent. Food good. Bar service friendly. Location good. Some of restaurant staff were slow and showed little interest in customers, Lacked any enthusiasm for their job.
Pleasant helpful staff. Comfortable room. Good breakfast. General atmosphere was very welcoming. Comfortable lounge with open fire.
Great restaurant & good staff Room dirty, poor decoration
reception on arrival was friendly and leisure facilities good one of our 2 rooms was pokey and shabby, bar staff was not friendly, scones in the afternoon tea were stale and exciting breads and chutneys as described in the cheese board were replaced by a few crackers. Also empty food trays were not cleared away from the guest sitting room for many hours
Excellant location Room small
Location for travelling around area, either by car or train. English Breakfast was excellent. Staff friendly.
the location of the hotel was good as it was just far enough away from Harrogate to be less busy and within easy reach of the countryside The hotel was what I would call tired and does need a modernisation. our bedroom was of reasonable size but the bathroom was small and there were damp patches over the bath and shower area. The restaurant was limited no a la carte menu.
The lighting in the room was appalling, making it virtually impossible to read. The restaurant food was very good. The downside of this was that there was not much choice, and the menu appeared to be a fairly permanent one, that was retained for a long period. This meant a loss of convenience to guests and loss of business for the hotel, as I should think that a lot of people would, as we did, eat out after the first night.
the food was lovely the health spa was a bit dated and I did not like the way you had to walk through the reception of the spa to get to the pool
