Hotel location We initialy ask for 2nd floor room- not given no maps of saumur in the hotel except on the wall we ate continantal breakfast and were charged for a buffet one
The bed was comfortable. We booked because it was supposed to have a good restaurant, but upon arrival we were told that the restaurant was closed on Sunday and were given no useful help in finding an alternative. It was too far to walk to town and, having driven there, we found that most restaurants were closed.
helpful and friendly staff no
The friendlyness of the staff
Restaurant was good and owners were very helpful
A very comfortable room and very friendly helpful staff The restaurant was very good value for money and excellent food no
The staff were very considerate when I got sick and needed some quiet recuperation time. The hotel chef/manager went out of his way to make the 4 of us feel very welcome, even during the daytime when we needed a quietspot outside to eat our lunch.Free parking onsite. It was a bit out of the way so you needed a car to see the sights and go downtown.
Comfortable for a three night stay and very convenient to explore the Loire district. Excellent helpful staff and great restaurant convenient for dinner.
Friendly staff and good value for money
The location for the view over the river and chateau was excellent. Only a very short walk to the shops and market. Good value.
The Hotel was in a great location with great views of the Chateau and it is on the bansks of the Loire and within walking distance to lots of great restaurants. The bar closes at 11.00pm even on a Saturday night which is not much help when you hope to return after eating out with friends and having a nightcap together before retiring for the night.
proimity to centre of town restaurant staff not very friendly , looked down on
Location, Room, Staff Internet was not available during our stay. Only 10 TV channels available.
Situation, friendliness of the hotel, cleanliness. We were very pleased with the hotel.
Very good breakfast. Night clerk was very helpful as we arrived very, very late and she helped us enter the garage, find a parking spot, get our stuff into the elevator and get into the room. Wish I knew her name. Found the name of the hotel confusing, it is the Mercure on the signage and staff told us it was changed a couple of years ago--we missed it the first time because we didn't see the secondary name on the sign--we were looking for the Loire Hotel.
Relaxed atmosphere, helpful staff, wonderful view from our room
The hotel was very comfortable with good facilities, It was in a perfect position overlooking the river and chateau.
Rooms very clean and staff really helpful Can't say we disliked anything
Hotel staff very friendly. Good choice for breakfast Room previously occupied by a smoker...it's less of a big deal in France than England but it did bother me. I don't like to go out smelling like an old ash tray. Didn't complain as I was late booking...a sparay solved the problem.
The young Lady on the desk on our night of arrival *(Tatiana) was a verry nice person. Helped with everything. It is not verry often that you get this sort of person
well situated for walking easily into the center of Saumur for shopping and good choice of restaurants. would have liked comfy chair in room.
Helpful, friendly staff. Comfortable room with good facilities. Good value for money
Good location. Poor internet.
Easy to find. Good location, comfortable rooms. Easy to park. Asked for disabled room, was given low floor but shower was over bath
excellent staff and facilities no
The room was quite small but very comfortable and furnished to a high standard. One parking spot in the hotel garage was raised at the far end with no warning. My husband reversed the car off the back of this ledge and grounded the car. A warning would have been very useful.
Very friendly and helpful staff. Good breakfast room. Everything very clean and well maintained.
Pleasant staff, private garage parking, internet station. Breakfast expensive at €11.25 per person.
The only downfall was no lift, but there was help with your bags if you needed it.
Good hotel with central location. Good rooms. Good recommendations for restaurants. Noisy street so keep windows closed. minor issues with door lock on toilet
Friendly staff, good location, comfortable and well appointed rooms.
Access to shops Parking was a little difficult
This is a super hotel in the heart of the city. Recently renovated, the décor is tasteful and imaginative, and has been finished to a very high standard. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Breakfast was very good. Our room was comfortable and well thought out, and with a little balcony overlooking the street for evening entertainment! We saw the good secure parking but made use of the excellent bicycle storage facilities. Thoroughly recommended.
The staff were very helpful, friendly and the secure parking was a huge bonus. The hotel was very well positioned in the city centre. There was no lift available, the reception was on the first floor and our room was on the second.
The staff were very welcoming and helpful. The room was very comfortable and the location was excellent. We requesting overnight parking and it was all arranged when we arrived.
central steep stairs
Staff were charming, hotel was delightful, well appointed and has private parking near the center of town. Would happily stay here again.
The owners and staff were very helpfull and welcoming. Breakfast was fresh and included homemade chocolate cake! Hotel was easy to find and central. Private car parking.
Sitting on the patio enjoying the view of the castle while drinking a glass of wine and eating Brie cheese. great atmosphere
I had stayed at this hotel before and liked it very much. I love the architectural style of the building which is very elegant. Excellent location. Helpful friendly staff. I had booked a double "Prestige Room" for single occupancy but I later requested a twin bedded room, when a friend decided to join me on my trip. Whilst the twin bedded room was perfectly comfortable, I would not have described it as "Prestige".
Hotel setting and staff were both excellent, also well positioned for restaurants etc. Rooms was a bit scruffy and could do with fresh lisk of paint, coffee at breakfast was terrible
Friendly, helpful staff combined with a truly excellent historic location with views of both the chateau and the Loire; very convenient for walking to the centre of Saumur. Overall, nothing to note.
The helpfulness and friendliness of the staff. The noisy American party and the way they took over the peace of the courtyard
Comfortable hotel in an historic old building. Bit more expensve than I expected
The ease of check in and check out Sattelite tv ? there were 3 channels
Position; views. Small but comfortable room. Pleasant, accommodating and helpful staff.
We enjoyed the view from our room, 212. We appreciated the quiet for sleeping. There were three things that made us uncomfortable in the room. There was no real hot water for showering. The TV was difficult to operate. The lighting beside the bed was inadiquate. The lighting should be over the bed for reading purposes.
Great Service, Restaurant across the courtyard was excellent too.
We enjoyed the food in the restaurant, walking round a beautiful area and resting on route south
Excellent room - we had bath with jacuzzi, lounge area, bedroom and a separate room for our daughter all in one suite. Hotel has pleasant views over Saumur and Loire valley which can be enjoyed from the restaurant that serves excellent food. Dinner was lovely, but quite expensive. Had a bit of trouble finding the place.
Staff were very helpful and freindly, Rooms were well set out and comfortable
We chose the hotel bcause it was a logis with three chimneys and were very disappointed. Lovely views from the terrace but the room was small, you had to be a contortionist to get in the loo and the shower was old and manky. The service in the restaurant was dreadful and the meal and room were overpriced. Our complaints about the restaurant were not passed on to reception, and we were dealt with very badly at reception the following morning. Breakfast itself was poor and the room similar to a cafeteria. It is the worst hotel we have ever stayed in 25 years holidaying in France and we will not return.
Friendly and helpful staff. Small rooms but quite comfortable. Excellent food and sommelier.
The location was just what we wanted. The type of accommodation and facilities suited all our needs. Food was excellent .An overall superb stay in a beautiful part of France. I dont know if it was the mattress or the base but we rolled into the centre of the bed. I feel this needs to be looked at asap. Otherwise room was excellent.
The rooms were elegant and the service was on a personal level, very welcoming. The breakfast served was absolutely fantastic.
Room cleanliness & comfor. It's a lovely, romantic hotel in an ideal location
Very good location within walking distance of shops and restaurants. Friendly helpful staff
Beautifully refurbished building. Perfect location for access to explore Loire and Saumur. Parking! Host could not have been more helpful.
Helpful staff, location, beautiful building... No
Central to Saumur. Extremely helpful staff
This is a tastefully decorated, charming hotel in the historic centre of Saumur. The proprietor was very friendly and helpful, and the breakfasts were memorable!
This hotel is very central, charming in details that makes your stay not only most comfortable but memorable to return to. The staff, excellent.
This is a truly lovely hotel right in the heart of Saumur. The staff were friendly and helpful, and the hotel was beautifully decorated, well maintained and spotlessly clean. We thought this a perfect find and will be returning.
Beautiful Bijou hotel in the heart of a beautiful city.
The Chateau is absolutely beautiful. The owners, family & all staff were very friendly and helpful. The only thing which we found a little strange was that you couldn't lock your room. Although the chateau itself was secure.
The chateau is sooooooooo fantastic, and undoubtfully the best hotel I've ever tired. It has very beautiful rooms, nice people, and a great garden! Nothing.
The owner was most receptive and hospital and helpful
this chateau was beautifully maintained and the owners were professional and most helpful..delightful stay
The owners are very nice and attentive. The mansion is absolutely gorgeous and is well kept. The interior and décor is suburb. A truly luxurious experience. Nothing, it was perfect.
From the very moment that we arrived we were made extremely welcome and comfortable by our hosts. They were extremely helpful in suggesting tours and visits. They recommended retaurants which were all reasonable and of high quality.. We parted friends! No.
It was like staying in your own Chateau amazing. We were very lucky to be given a upgrade but all the rooms looked amazing 5 stars plus. The owners go out of there way to make your stay so very special.
Friendly proprietors and staff willing to make the stay memorable in every way. beauitfully maintained heritage chateau with pool. Well located close to town and facilities. Nothing
The owners of the Chateau De Verrieres are very warm and helpful. Staff are very polite. The bedrooms are very clean and well maintained and the reception areas are wonderful. Very nice dining area for breakfast. The is Chateau situated in a very good location for exploring Saumur on foot.
It was great from start to finish, the owners were very friendly and helped us book a gorgeous meal at the nearby Gambetta restaurant.
very friendly and helpful front desk in the afternoon when we arrived - quiet position - very central - ideal family room - challenging car park!! but very useful
The staff was excellent in helping us during our stay. They were always available and provided us with local information and suggestions for sightseeing, restaurants, etc. The rooms were clean and comfortable, with space for luggage. The bathrooms were in excellent condition. The hotel is very conveniently located for exploring Saumur and the region. There is, of course, no elevator in the hotel, so my only suggestion is to other customers: pack light, or be prepared to haul your suitcases up several flights of stairs. Perhaps France could curb its current unemployment crisis by hiring "bell boys" for hotels such as this, who would help with carrying customers' baggage up several flights of stairs! :>)
Spotlessly clean, good position & parking, excellent buffet breakfast.Good service. None
The Receptionist was very helpful.
Great cental location. Most staff very helpful. Room light and clean. Carparking suits small cars. One very miserable receptionist!
An excellent cental location with good parking
The rooms were comfortable
Good city centre location. Rooms clean & comfortable Minimal continental breakfast.
Very friendly and helpful staff. Nicely decorated rooms - very clean and tidy. Quiet hotel - but in the middle of Saumur.
Kind attention to klient The design of carpet in the stairway
The surroundings and the scenery Nothing
Beautiful location , superb facilities , service excellent.............what more can I say , have already recommended it to two couples I could not find any
the unfriendliness of the owners and no non french tv programm
Atmosphere was very friendly. Wonderful setting. Troglodyte room was amazing and as for the swimming pool in the cave - wow! You have to go - thoroughly recommend it. Nothing
A unique suberb hotel, Good reception and setting
The site, the building, the outlook. We like a double bed that IS a double bed, not two singles pushed together.
The relaxed and friendly atmosphere
Lovely hotel, but the internet and the hotel info stated the evening meal was 35 Euro, to include 4 wines. We were charged 12 Euro each for the wine and 2 Euro for a sachet of coffee. It was great food, but we left feeling very cheated.
Friendly welcoming owner. Very welcome cup of tea on arrival. Beautiful room in a fascinating chateau. Lovely well maintained grounds.Unfortunately due to illness we had to leave after only one night.
the surprise menu where you ate what he chef prepared was excellent
The Chateau was fantastic. Beautiful rooms and grounds, lovely friendly staff. Very relaxing and a short walk to a nice little town. The meals were also excellent and great value for money. Highly recommended, you must stay here!
Beautiful house in a lovely location. The staff took a personal interest in making us welcome and looking after our needs. We were on the top floor. Access was via a very interesting staircase which might prove to be a challenge for some folk. The hotel plans to install a new access later this year so this issue will hopefully soon be resolved.
Needs money throwing at it but that said a nice experience
What a lovely little chateau. Food was excellent value - 5 courses with a different wine with each course. Staff were really friendly and helpful. Wish we could have stayed for longer. Would recommend this place to anyone.
Breakfasts were excellent Not particularly
This chateau is absolutely marvelous! We were warmly welcomed by the owners who made our stay very pleasant and personal. The rooms are nice and spacious. I can especially recommend you the diners. There’s no need to go out for a meal since this chateau serves amazing 5-course meals. This chateau is highly recommendable for a few days of relaxing vacation!
Excellent accompanying map made finding hotel easy. Friendly and helpful service.
Location was excellent for visits to local chateaux; good restaurants in town. Bath only available - a little dangerous to get in and out of; shower is preferred (but not a small shower - in a small shower you either knock of the water supply or cannot showere properly. A small shower is one less than 1 metre x 1 metre)
quiet, efficient staff good english spoken and nice breakfast no
The bed was extremely comfortable. Lovely high ceilings and lots of light in our room. Not able to get good TV channels.
charming location, helpful staff
A marvelous little hotel. Very welcoming by reception. Tea provided on arrival. Very large room. Very modern and clean bathroom. Very good breakfast. More expesive hotels could learn a lot from a place like this.
Rooms were very comfortable , staff were very friendly and having an english speaking person was very helpful as our french limited. The tea/coffee facilities downstairs are a brilliant idea and very much needed after long journey.
The hotel is a rare gem of a place. Stay there if you can get in. Breakfast is wonderful, rooms are as comfortable as they can be, coffee and tea are always available. The atmosphere will revive you like no other place.
Friendliness. Breakfast Did not serve dinner. Garden could have been better.
A delightful hotel situated very close to the river. Hotel staff were very friendly. Room excellent, bathroom had no shower, only bath with shower attachment. Very good rate (off season deal?). Did not sample breakfast which they said was very good. Would have preferred to take a shower than a bath. Thursday is their market day and they set up just outside the hotel, so it was noisy in the morning - not their doing.
Quiet location No room service.
The setting was superb and the staff were very friendly. We were given a room within the Chateau itself as I requested, but I did feel it would benifit from an update as it was not as modern as the pictures on the website.
Loved the setting. Thought excellent value for money. However, not suitable for those who may not be willing to spend a small fortune on their evening meal as the hotel restaurant is the only place you can have a meal for miles. If, on the other hand you are after a luxurious feat, this is the place! no
The owner was very pleasant and welcoming. The room we stayed in was very spacious. The pool and grounds were very lovely. The breakfast was wonderful.
The chateau is beautiful as are the grounds. The staff were very accommodating The linens were wonderful. Our room was the size of a large broom closet. There was no coffee maker in the room.
The breakfast, the balcony and the location and the swimming pool. restaurant was expensive did not use it.
Food and service was good in the restaurant and prices comparable with other hotels we stayed at. Quiet setting away from, but only a 10 minute walk into town. Bar prices were very high. The rooms smelled musty and needed updating/renovating. There was not enough information in the room about services etc.
The room and staff The evening meal was of very poor quality
Very well situated! A well needed refurbishment is annonced.
Very quiet, a great view of the Chateau Chinon across the river, food was adequate. Probably doesn't happen very often, but under one of the towels in the bathroom was a large spider, not a scary one, but one with long fragile legs.
Ease of checking in, relaxed atmosphere and the restaurant was better than expected.. Overall good value for money.
Hotel had no record of our booking on arrival and was fully booked for some parts of our intended stay. Staff managed to accommodate us but we had a day of anxiety !!!
Easy walking distance to the centre of Chinon but quiet location. Near good restaurants. Breakfast good value for money. Decor was a bit tired.
Beautiful view of chateau from my bedroom/balcony. Good value fixed price menu
This was our 3rd visit so we knew what to expect and weren't disappointed, except by the fact that during our stay (Sat/Sun) the restaurant was closed.
I liked the quiet situation and the feeling of peace. The staff were friendly and the room quiet and comfortable. The water pressure was excellent. The food was good and salad and vegetables were included, so healthy. The toilet was very narrow and unventilated.
The hotel had a lovely garden out the back which would be great if you are travelling with children or wanted to relax with a book under the tree. The staff were quite incompetent and unfriendly. We had specifically requested a double bed when we originally booked and were told that they didn't have any double rooms available so we had to stay in two single beds! They did not even offer to push the beds together to and make it as one double. There wasn't much information on the Loire Valley at the hotel. Only really Chinon. It took quite a bit of time to get to Blois and Chambord. We estimate 1 and a half hours so if you're going just for the weekend we'd suggest staying closer to that area. Also we booked this hotel because it had WIFI but it did not work in our room.
A lovely room - sympathetically restored & appointed
Very quite country location, good welcome and choice of rooms. Big room. Rooms and furnishings are old rather than the implied antique.
The hotel is an attractive old manor the rooms had been refurbished and were of good size clean comportable breakfast buffet excellent. The resaurant is closed on fris Sat and Sunday we would not have booked if we had known this as we had to drive to town for dinner. If this is important to you check before booking. Also unable to pay by card as his machine was not working elderly man on reception unhelpful and demanded cash when a phone call could have put it rightwe were not only ones with this problem.
Very beautiful place, excellent hotel for spending some nice days in calm The only thing that was not perfect is the breakfast.
A hotel of great character in a good setting. The evening meal was lovely and the breakfast was good. Not much sound proofing between rooms.
The natural setting, the quiet, and the service by he staff We had a difficult time finding it. GPS coordinates would help
I loved this place. Peaceful, charming, clean. The staff were wonderful. Close enough to other villages and chateaus but far enough out to enjoy nature. Very Peaceful. If you prefer to stay in the restaurant was very good. Can't think of one thing I didn't like.
Large bedroom. Dark depressing room with tired furnishings. Needs some tlc.
