Pros: The very warm welcome and wonderful French breakfast
Pros: Easy to find off the N10. Hotel is an imposing, shabby chic style residence located in its own grounds at the end of a long tree lined drive. On arrival Danielle made us welcome with some liquid refreshments. After exchanging pleasantries she asked us what time we would like to eat. At 8.00 p.m. we were ushered to a private dining area and were treated to an exquisite dinner cooked by her husband Bernard for whom cooking is a passion. Local pate followed by magret du canard, mushrooms from the grounds and pommes frites a la Bernard, then selection of cheeses finished with Apple tart. Each course interspersed with fine wines. Slept like logs in huge comfortable bed. Excellent breakfast to speed us on our way. Memorable stay. Highly recommended.
Pros: Great location. When renovations are finished it will be lovely. We were made to feel very welcome. Dog friendly. Hosts communicated in English which was a great help. Welcome drinks on arrival. Great home cooked supper in the evening. We will definitely stay again when in the area.
Cons: There was nothing we didn’t like.
Pros: It was convenient for our travels but otherwise a little of the beaten track. The lady owner was very friendly and accommodating.
Cons: Didn't really look like the internet photographs. All very overgrown and tired. No real facilities if you were planning a stay there. we just did a last minute place to stay for travelling.
Pros: The staff cannot be more kind, she will do her best to make your stay pleasant. The place is quiet and beautiful. The room is very spacious and so is the bathroom. Cars can be parked inside. The swimming pool and the terrace in the garden area are perfect for a relaxed afternoon. The breakfast has French quality products (fresh bread with local butter, homemade marmelade, fresh croissants and chocolate butter bread) and she also offered savory in case I wanted (eggs etc). I can only recommend this place.
Cons: Everything was just perfect.
Pros: Wonderful place, tranquil and beautiful location. The pool is amazing! Hosts are just wonderful and were so accommodating. Very dog friendly too- would definitely stay again. Even got treated to a lovely breakfast which we were not expecting.
Pros: Beautiful Chateau with an amazing history. The owner operators we so very helpful and friendly. We wish we could have stayed here longer. the Meal they cooked for us was a wonderful fish salad to start and a Veal main dish with the most amazing mushroom sauce. desert was strawberries in a wine sauce. wine and aperitifs were included. Exceptional value at 30 Euro per person. we will be back for a longer stay next time for sure! we highly recommend to all!! Leanne & Patrick Lee
Pros: Bernard and Dominique the owners were very friendly and helpful

Featured amenities include a computer station, express check-in, and complimentary newspapers in the lobby. Planning an event in Roullet-Saint-Estephe? This hotel features 151 square feet (14 square meters) of event facilities. Free self parking is available onsite.
Pros: The place itself was excellent, lovely grounds with lake swimming pool could have been a little closer to the hotel but all in all very nice place to stop.
Cons: We left the hotel with a bitter taste in our mouths. First on arrival we said that we did not want breakfast as we needed an early start but on checking out they tried to charge for 2 breakfasts at 15 euros per person after a lot of checking with staff this was agreed. Next they charged us 110 euros for the room but we had booked 76.6 euros all in. By this time people were waiting to check out so we (bad mistake) paid and hoped we get the difference back either from the hotel or Booking.com none of which was forthcoming. We have used Booking.com for many years when things go right but when they go wrong they are no help whatsoever and being our agents I would have expected more. NEVER AGAIN.
Pros: Very dark room for sleeping Very pleasant and helpful staff
Cons: Damp smell in bedroom Food disappointing. Also too many hard seeds in the dishes
Pros: The staff were very friendly, it was clean, and the setting was beautiful, really nice to be able to sit out by the lake in the evening.
Cons: We didn't like the tiny portions of expensive food in the restaurant, being English we're used to a decent platefull especially after many hours of travel. Other minor points ... extractor fan in shower room didn't work, toilet flush button was faulty and shower room flooded every time you showered. I had a wheelchair accessible room which was fine, however, I could not fit my wheelchair through the disabled entrance to reception as it was too narrow so I had to go to the other side of the hotel and in through the restaurant, it would also be nice if the pool area had a slope to make it wheelchair accessible.
Pros: Peaceful place and enjoyed sitting by the lake watching the fish jump!
Pros: Excellent all over! Staff, room, swimming pool, service! We really enjoyed our stop over! Air conditioning was a plus.
Pros: Very quiet location.
Cons: If you want a friendly welcome and attentive staff then this is NOT the place to stay. You are left to serve yourself for breakfast but there is no one around to ask for help. There were eggs to boil if you know that you need to switch the machine on in the first place. The young waiter came in to clear the tables and ignored us completely, not even asking if we were ok or if we needed anything. I had to go and fine someone to order coffee. After having to search for a member of staff at checkin we had to do the same again to check out. I don’t think we will be going again.
Pros: staff were excellent. They made for an enjoyable stay
Cons: Frid breakfast with scrambled eggs, fresh baguettes, croissants Sat no scrambled eggs, baguettes and pancakes stale. Fresh fruit salad. Sun no scrambled eggs, fresh baguettes, pancakes from Friday
Pros: The grounds of this country house are lovely as are the bar and dining room. The breakfast room is nice. The restaurant set menu was very good and the staff helpful and courteous. The out door pool was very welcome on a hot day with good loungers and clean water.
Cons: My room was in the block to left of the old main drive as one looks from the road. There are old plane trees offering lots of shade but the ventilation of the room and bathroom depends upon the window and door on one side. There is an extractor fan above the shower but this is too weak. The net result is the room smells damp and there was little air flow even sleeping with the window wide open.
Pros: Everything! Gorgeous breakfast. Parking in front of the door to carry luggage to the room. No noise at all. Room spacy.
Cons: Honestly absolutely nothing, but using at home a bed of 2 m, the one of 1.60 was a little small
Pros: The ambience was terrific and the decor of the main building is superb. The grounds consisting of many trees and a lake are charming. The staff were friendly though little English is understood.
Cons: The comfort of the bed was not good. It needed a new mattress. The haidryer smoked when it was turned on and when I attempted to unplug it, the plug fell apart. This could have been dangerous. In fairness, the staff did loan us a better hairdryer. We had high expectations of the restaurant. The starters were exceptional, but the fillet steaks that followed were like trying to eat old leather. Making a complaint was difficult, although, eventually, the young waitress got the point that we did not expect to pay for my wife’s main course which proved to be inedible. I am still waiting for the mustard I asked for to be delivered! When it came to check out, again, in fairness to the management, they had deducted the charge for BOTH main courses. The wines were also very expensive, starting at around 35 Euros a bottle. The wine list, however, was excellent. We were also a little cramped in the restaurant and the next diner on the adjacent table was almost touching my shoulder and his strong aftershave was offputting. All this contributed to ruining an evening when we expected to experience some fine dining before continuing our travels.
With a stay at La Tonnellerie in Chateauneuf-sur-Charente, you'll be 5.8 mi (9.4 km) from Abbey of Bassac and 10.3 mi (16.6 km) from Courvoisier. Featured amenities include multilingual staff, microwave in a common area, and refrigerator in a common area. Free self parking is available onsite.
Pros: Large room, comfortable bed, single storey converted stables, adjacent to the river, fab walks, close to village
Cons: 10€ charge for a dog
Pros: Welcoming family run historic B&B rooms and astonishingly good restaurant. Every detail considered for comfort, and such kind, helpful hoststhroughout our short stay. V comfortable bed, room and facilities. V relaxed atmosphere
Cons: Honestly- nothing!
Pros: Location was good as visiting friends two minutes away. Room was cold although the property provided an electric heater in the room, we were there in the change of season period so one day it was hot the other cold! Towels changed everyday as this is not usual with B/B Chambres d Hotes in France.
Cons: Unfortunately we only managed to get any croissants/pain chocolat once as I think the other guests ate more than their share before we got to the buffet breakfast (around 830am). Breakfast is buffet and the owner was not present at any time. My partner ended up buying breakfast at the boulangerie as he does not eat cereals. However plenty of cerials and yoghurts available.
Pros: Excellent standard of food in the restaurant. This is a family run business and everyone went out of their way to make our stay a good one.
Cons: Bigger fluffier towels would have been nice but maybe that's an English thing?
Pros: Unbelievably nice place. Perfect place for a city runaway. Very friendly family running hotel and restaurant. Excellent rooms with a river view, nice yard with a pool. Excellent food in restaurant. Brilliant wines and spirits selection. Rooms are spacious and comfortable. Nice and comfy beds.
Pros: Superb location. Peaceful. Tranquil. Excellent hotel restaurant.
Cons: No nearby places to eat in evening when hotel restaurant closed.
Pros: Thr breakfast was good.
Cons: Arrived just after lunch service finished. We had been in a traffic jam for hours due to collisions. We were told abruptly restaurant closed. I said I was so hot and dry I couldn't speak. I expected to be offered a glass of water but no!! I asked if I could get a drink from bar was told only if I was quick. I ordered 2 beers 1 orange juice 15.90 euros. Every other b and b in france offer us a hot or cold drink on arrival. It's clear the restaurant is their main business.
Pros: The location by the river, the restaurant, the peace and quiet. The staff spoke English which was very useful and catered for my partners coeliac disease and lactose intolerance which was great. Lovely meal in a very cosy restaurant.
Pros: Excellent evening meals. Lovely restaurant. Hotel run by a really nice family.
Cons: Accommodation rather basic.
Pros: Very quaint and very friendly hotel and restaurant. Location was incredible being next to a river and the room was in keeping with the period of the building. The staff were very friendly and the pool was very welcoming after a hot tiring drive. We ate in their restaurant and the food was delicious and varied. We were staying here 1 night on route to Amien and wished we could have stayed longer to allow us to visit Cognac region. If we come this way again we will be staying here.
Cons: We could not find anything personally to not like
With a stay at Hôtel Marjolaine in Roullet-Saint-Estephe, you'll be within a 15-minute drive of Le Bain des Dames and International Cartoon Museum. Free self parking is available onsite.
Pros: Excellent value for money. Easy and free parking. Spacious room. Small seating area outside our room was just right for relaxing with a glass of wine in the evening
Pros: Location and motel style rooms.
Cons: Breakfast wasn't value for money.
Pros: Comfy bed good tv reasonable shower great location in all very good and I will use this hotel again thank you
Pros: Staff. The ability to park your car near the room. The location just of the main road but far enough away that you never hear the traffic.
Pros: Good value.
Cons: Nothing open on Sunday anywhere.
Pros: Very friendly staff, easy parking a plus and great value for the cost.
Cons: Shower to small
Pros: Very clean, comfortable bed and air conditioning. Small table to sit at outside and parking outside the room. Perfect for secure parking for motorcycle. Thank you.
Pros: Location is excellent ( 2 mins off motorway) and you can park your car outside your room
Cons: No kettle in room - (you know what us english are like with our tea) and as expected tv in room is ok if you speak french ( as expected no English speaking channels) only other point to note is the local restaurant (next door to hotel) doesn’t serve alcohol unless you have a meal and won’t do takeouts so if you want a drink take your own.
Pros: Good size room with plenty of space for bags etc. Easy access.
Cons: Would benifit from kettle in room.
With a stay at Premiere Classe Angouleme Sud-La Couronne in La Couronne, you'll be within a 10-minute drive of International Cartoon Museum and Angouleme Paper Museum. Featured amenities include express check-in, express check-out, and multilingual staff. Free self parking is available onsite.
Pros: Location next to N10. Reasonably quiet.
Cons: Needs updating. Outside areas dirty. Expensive for clean sheets and hot water. Asked for a decent restaurant close by for dinner and was recommended the cafe in Auchan supermarket which is poor. Perhaps because they offer a discount to Premiere clients?
Pros: Comfortable bed , clean and good value
Pros: Breakfast - basic
Cons: Arrived on a Sunday afternoon and was told that a restaurant was open about 5mins walk away. We did the walk in 35deg heat to find place which we couldn't find. Went back and informed receptionist who gave further very poor directions as to where it was - went and found it but it was shut. Had to get in car and drive 10mins to find a place open which in fact was a drive through Quick takeaway. The room was small, no soap provided but you could get free Wifi and watch TV. Priorities seem to be all wrong.
Pros: Just the job for a one night stay, easy access good parking and friendly staff.
Cons: The noisy people upstairs.
Pros: Nothing... Pay the extra cash and go else where. Place needs ripped down and rebuilt.
Cons: Room 9 is disgusting, I don't mind the markings on the walls or the door needing special attention when opening and closing, we didn't close the door during the night, I put the case against it because It was temperamental, and on leaving at 6 in the morning, I think I may have woken everyone up slamming it shut. BUT the toilet and shower is not acceptable: it's out of a caravan, in fact the toilet and shower I had in my old campvan was better. The toilet seat is broken and there no why i or my disable husband will be able to use the shower, its 2 small and slippy The space along the end of the bed you had to walk side ways and my husband nearly knocked the TV off the wall. I've been and asked for another room, but the gentleman on reception is not very helpful and everything I ask him seems like a problem and his attitude is very rude. The receptionist said there was no more rooms available but I know there was no one in the rooms either side of ours. And to get direction from him where to go and get something to eat was hard work, all I wanted was him to write the name down, he pretended to have no paper when I started looking for a bit he found a load under his desk. Disappointing stay,
Pros: location fine easy to find
Pros: A basic hotel with no pretensions of being anything else. Very conveniently located on the motorway between Poitiers and Bordeaux.
Cons: Breakfast, 06.30-10.00 except that by 08.30 just about everything had gone and the staff were too busy coming on duty and chatting to each other to consider replacing and bread, croissants or what ever should have been available. I would go across the road into the shopping centre and get a better deal for less money.
Cons: Door lock was broken and room was very tired
Pros: Evening staff were friendly and helpful and very convenient for the A10. Compact but clean and tidy
Cons: The breakfast was pretty miserable not worth the 5euros. The morning staff gave me the impression she couldn't wait for brexit. Much more pleasant with French patrons
Pros: Comfortable bed Good breakfast Good garden area and walk around the area for dogs Close by main roads for ongoing journey
Cons: Small room for 2 adults and a dog but adequate for one night Although shower pressure was great didn’t like the shower curtain sticking to you.......
