Pros: Beautiful location, very peaceful and the house is gorgeous with a lovely garden. Lots of thoughtful touches and the owner was very helpful. Very relaxing.
Cons: Nothing
10.0 Excellent
Pros: A beautiful period house, 20 minutes walk outside Stoke by Nayland, in pristine quiet (except for some tawny owl calls). Our room ("Boat room") was large, 4 pillar bed, perfect shower, all exceptionally clean. Breakfast: I'm not lying, one of the best we ever had, everything made to order. Lot's of walking possibilities. Host David Kerr provides good maps.
Cons: Nothing not to like. Well, maybe some scale in the water cooker.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful, quiet location. A really lovely B&B - perfect for relaxing. We only stayed one night but would have happily stayed longer. Large, clean and comfortable room. Delicious, generous breakfast. Highly recommended.
Cons: No improvements needed!

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything! Beautiful, comfortable large room with gorgeous views of the gardens. Elegant decor, high quality bed and bedding - you can tell a lot of love and attention has gone into the whole house. We visited as a family of 4 and the property provided a cot and small bed. Nothing was any trouble and the hosts couldn't have been more accommodating. Excellent, quality breakfast with lots of options. We travel regularly to the area to visit family and usually book into The Crown in Stoke by Nayland. We always leave feeling a little disappointed with the standard. So we were delighted to discover this gem of a property when we found The Crown was fully booked. So glad we did as there is no comparison. We're already planning our return visit.

Pros: Despite being limited for choice the venue was great.
Cons: It was a bit more expensive than the local premier inn but worth it.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Friendly staff, good food and excellent service.
Cons: All good
8.3 Excellent
Pros: I liked the room, and the view across the green. Nice that there was a standing fan in the room.
Cons: Only one small towel provided. I like to use a separate one for my hair. For the price I was not impressed by the food. My husband had linguine which was OK. The filo tart looked much nicer than it tasted. Too much pastry that was crisp and dry where it was not against the tart. It was misleading to say that as customers we would get a 10% discount off the restaurant bill. I assumed "the bill" was for all food and drinks. Although 2 of us stayed, there were 5 of us eating. The only discount given was on the food ONLY that my husband and I ate. Would not return.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The staff, food, ambiance and accommodation were all fantastic.

Pros: Bed very comfy.Food delicious. Service friendly and efficient.

Pros: It was excellent just like a cottage with staff!
Cons: Nothing
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The house was easy to find and Alicia was there to greet us on arrival. Alicia was an excellent host and the place exceeded our expectations. We found the bed to be really comfortable with plenty of pillows and lovely fresh, clean linnen. Robes were also provided. The whole place is very sweet and the jacuzzi bath is a real bonus. Alicia added lots of extra touches with made our stay really special. Breakfast was yummy and we couldn't have asked for more. I'd definitely recommend a stay here.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Loved it all.. lovely comfy private lounge, awesome bathroom and romantic bedroom. Yummy brekkie too.
Cons: Nothing
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Alicia is an excellent hostess. She takes great pride in her business and works hard to ensure the very best for her guests. Lovely breakfast in the morning - delicious array of pastries! Xx
Cons: Sofa bed was on the softer side
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Excellent breakfast we could have just about whatever we asked for. We were at a friends BBQ party and the location was 100 yds away, so great location for us.
Cons: Perhaps the shower could have been a bit more powerful - just a small observation
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything. Beautifully presented (Alicia has thought of everything you might need too), lovely old cottage (mind your head!), good quality linen and towels, comfortable bed, own sitting room, fabulous bathroom, extremely good breakfast and wonderful hosts who will do their utmost for you.
Cons: Nothing. I would only say that the stairs up to the bedroom could be tricky for someone with limited mobility, but that is the nature of an old property.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We liked everything about Jasmine cottage. The location is excellent Clacton-on-Sea and Colchester are only a short drive away. There was a pub literally next to the cottage which had an extensive menu. There was also a restaurant a little walk over the green that had very good reviews but we did not get the chance to visit. Alicia (the owner of the cottage) was a very good host. Nothing was too much for her and she made us and my dog feel very welcome. There were so many facilities available to us free wifi, a small fridge, glasses and an abundance of fluffy towels and dressing gowns. Breakfast was amazing and plentiful. We also tried the jacuzzi bath which was a very memorable experience. We all absolutely loved Alicia and the cottage and will be going back.
Cons: Having to leave.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Alicia could not have been more helpful. I booked this stay for my wife, who was staying for the night before my wedding and Alicia was always willing to go the extra mile. She helped us on the morning of the wedding and was the personification of helpfulness and more welcoming than I could possibly have hoped for.
Cons: Nothing - it was all perfect
10.0 Excellent
Pros: From the moment we arrived to a very warm welcome from the lovely Alicia, we were bowled over by this enchanting place to stay. We have stayed at many 5 star properties all over the world, but have very rarely experienced the level of personal service and attention to detail to be found at the Jasmine Room. Nothing was too much trouble for Alicia (she even offered us a lift to the wedding we were attending in the area!) and the little touches she provides make for a very comfortable stay. Breakfast, served in your own private sitting room, was superb, with an extensive choice of delicious food. We were in the area for a wedding, but would not hesitate to make the journey from London for another relaxing weekend away at this charming place in a beautiful village setting. Massive thanks to the lovely Alicia!
Cons: Nothing could be bettered - it was faultless!

7.0 Good
Pros: The breakfast was pleasant. Little bit tired but the bathroom was lovely. Decor a bit twee for me. Bed comfy.
Cons: There was notices everywhere "don't have guests" - which I couldn't have my family over to see me that night.. warning notices, don't do this and don't do that and felt like living with your parents. I was scared to relax in case I messed up the place. NOTE: advert online said breakfast included in price and then next day had to pay extra! Not happy. Won't stay again.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: I loved everything about my stay. The location is perfect - quiet, peaceful and very private. What really blew me away though was the attention to detail throughout and the quality of the furnishings. Most accommodation has the bare minimum but not at Pheasant Suites, everything has been thought about and made available. The little touches were welcome such as a comfortable leather sofa, a full length foot stool, plenty of plugs, a luxury bathroom with a large shower and beautiful bath; a remote control fan over the comfiest of beds and those feather pillows were just the best. It was a real delight to stay here and I was sorry my stay was only overnight.
Cons: Nothing - it was perfect.
10.0 Excellent

9.2 Excellent
Pros: lovely breakfast though second course too quick after 1st - had to break off cereal etc, eat the hot lovely eggs and then return to 1st tray - rather rushed and unrelaxing experience, loved the food though! Loved the thought given to peace and privacy, thank you!
Cons: the shower levers were rather tricky to move independently so temperature varied with power of flow - not ideal trying to control the two separately! I found some fittings and furniture rather inhibiting, afraid of damaging soft furnishings and carpets! Very comfortable though.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Mostly everything
Cons: 2 seater settee

Pros: I appreciated the way they accommodated my needs, with short notice and slightly early check-in. It was my first time staying in a B&B like this, I initially thought it would feel weird being on someones property, however I was proved wrong. The Cartlodge is a lovely self contained building and very private.
Cons: Nothing to comment on.

9.6 Excellent
Pros: Room was comfortable - a little on the small side, but par for the course for a town centre historic hotel. Furnished well, with some beautiful fabrics and the bathroom was huge and had lots of lovely toiletries. Breakfast was also good.
Cons: Coffee at breakfast was terrible (and all 3 mornings, not just a one-off). We ate dinner in the hotel restaurant on one evening and the main restaurant was closed for a private event. Instead we were placed in a side room next to the restaurant which was lacking in any atmosphere and there was a constant noise from the sliding door to the kitchens. That said, our food was good.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The rooms were very clean and so big the decor was amazing. The staff are so nice and helpful. We ate in the restaurant service was great had a wide range of choice on the menu and all the food tasted lovely.
Cons: Nothing it was all great

Cons: Nothing
9.6 Excellent
Pros: How comfortable the bed was, how the room was laid out and design of the room, breakfast was very flavourful and staff very welcoming
Cons: Nothing
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast was very good. Room decor, fittings and facilities were very good. Room was very comfortable. Complimentary min-bar. Bathroom was large.
Cons: Evening meal did not unfortunately meet expectation. Starter and desserts were meager. Main was just OK. Room was at the top of two flights of stairs, last one not easy to navigate with baggage. Bath was (in my opinion) not safe to use due to large rim of very smooth tiling. No grab handles or rougher areas. Couldn't envisage getting in and out without slipping. Ended up using shower which was OK.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Great breakfast included with our rate made this very good value for money. Great location, 2 minutes walk from the castle
Cons: Little bit pretentious. Pornstar Martini was not on the cocktail menu as it was deemed "inappropriate" (was renamed as "Passionate Drink"). The room was very comfortable but the carpet, though clean, was a little threadbare
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything. Stayed many times, gets better with each visit

We could easily reach child-friendly coastal towns and local activities, then come ‘home’ to absolute peace and tranquility. Our beds were lovely and comfortable and we thought the property was good value for money.
Cons: If there was a washing machine, it might make the property even more accessible to families with small children/babies, but we managed just fine :-)

Pros: Loved the peace and quiet of this pretty little lodge. Perfect for our family get away this year. Our kids loved the quaintness of the location. Pros: I thought the breakfast and service was excellent. The breakfast room was light and bright with pleasant views of the gardens. The chauffeured transport to and from the two restaurants was very welcomed.
Cons: We thought our room which was small, with little natural light and with french doors leading out to a small, damp patio was not worth the money we paid. The room opposite, however and unoccupied was bigger and had natural light plus a nice view of the surrounding countryside.

Pros: The breakfast was 10 out of 10, Scrambled eggs on toasted granary loaf and butter with free range done deliciously. Preceded with cereal fruit and Yogurt . The new bed was really firm and comfortable and quiet after lights out. The whole place was full of character as you would expect of a building with some parts built in the 1600's. Pros: Very welcoming staff, helpful and polite. Beautiful old building with plenty of character giving it that homely feeling. The food is nothing short of fantastic.
Cons: The lavatory has a weak flush, witch to be fair is probably due to the old plumbing. There is a low beam in our bedroom at the foot of the bed. Although the staff made us aware of this at check in I still managed to hit my head in the middle of the night.

Pros: Excellent value for money, with affordable rooms. I'll certainly come back! I like the fact that there are only a handful of rooms and you can get to know the staff. Indeed by day 2, the breakfast chef could already remember what I'd like for breakfast. Friendly staff. Linked to a local pub but the rooms are cleverly placed slightly away from the pub so absolutely no danger of a noisy night. Great pub food in the pub restaurant. Great breakfast.

9.6 Excellent
Pros: Very good hotel for guests who have business to transact at University of Essex, Colchester campus.
Cons: Location and comfort.
5.4 Okay
Pros: The student staff were very eager in their approach, although it still felt like I was paying for what they will become rather than what they are at the moment. I enjoyed the wedding that was held there, particularly the ceremony in the older part of the property.
Cons: It was expensive for what it was. If I hadn’t been there for a wedding, it would not have been worth it. Without a car and with taxi shortages, it is very difficult to get to and from, situated on the campus of the university (which was in summer break when I was there). Facilities in the room didn’t work (flickering lights, running toilet), the cooked breakfast came with hollandaise that was on the cusp of turning, the students at reception didn’t know how to walk to the nearest little town (and I got lost using their insufficient directions) and my room in the new wing did not have air conditioning (although the event facilities in that wing do). Overall a medium experience in a facility that I expected to provide more.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: The property and staff
Cons: What I was charged
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Friendliness of all staff. Excellent food and service of all the staff.
Cons: Nothing it was perfect
10.0 Excellent
Pros: This hotel is beautiful. The room we had was amazing. Absolutely huge and felt like staying in a stately home. Room service was good and the breakfast even better. Helpful and friendly staff.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: I loved everything about this place. It was absolutely beautiful. The staff were all friendly and lovely. It made a difficult trip of dropping my son off to uni a lot more pleasant. Thank you
7.9 Good
Pros: Waiting staff couldn't do enough. Housekeeping excellent.
Cons: Price of drinks, far too expensive.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The room and views 10/10, the bathroom was the best
9.2 Excellent
Pros: A very good breakfast selection. A pleasant surround to the house, with plenty of space for a walk and fresh air. I telephoned for an early check-in, since I was attending a lunch time function, and it was enabled. The room was excellent, with a very good bathroom. The provision of a multitask computer is a brilliant idea and facility.
Cons: The room and corridor in the extension were too warm, making it difficult to sleep, even with the window open. The duvet fitted was too bulky, we removed the cover from it, and slept with just the cover over us. Apart from these points, everything else was excellent.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: We stayed in room 106 which is in the new part. The room was stunning and exceeded our expectations
Cons: The breakfast was awful and tbh the service matched. Side orders coming out before the food. Food was cold and staff seemed to have just lost control. Several of our friends could not eat the breakfast and we heard several other guest complain

Cons: Nothing- all was lovely
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Food was excellent the room was lovely. The shower was huge! Nice coffee maker in room
Cons: Only 2 pods for coffee maker would have been really nice to have a couple more
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast was amazing. Very helpful staff. Wonderful smile from the blonde receptionist. Friendly cleaning staff too.
Cons: It's tough carrying a 2Okg bag up s couple of stairs. Did not appreciate the hotel didn't have this facility. I should have asked prior to booking. Reception clerk could have been a little friendlier on check in, perhaps because it was early in the morning, 3:30am. I guess after a 5 hour flight, 1.5 hour delay waiting for the taxi I would have liked some help with my 2Okg bag up the flight of stairs. But guess that's not his job!!
10.0 Excellent

Pros: Friendly staff .. especially at breakfeast .. food was lovely ! Many Thanks .
Cons: This may sound petty as it's so lovely but at dinner the same sound track ( music ) was played over and over .. But food was lovely .. we done out on our travels and have tried many hotels in London etc which I add are over priced and I must say your food was better ! ...

Pros: The food was excellent and the staff were great - very friendly. The swimming pool was very nice too.
Cons: It would have been nice to have had a mini fridge in the bedroom.
6.7 Good
Pros: Food was ok
Cons: Plumbing noise in room throughout the night, no jacuzzi, children’s swimming lessons in the afternoon, no peace and quiet around the pool, a few cobwebs around the room, early finish breakfast

Cons: N/A
7.1 Good
Pros: The staff in the spa and restaurant were really helpful and friendly. The hot stone massage was extremely good. The women serving us our evening meal was super lovely. We had a superior double; the bed was extremely comfy and the size of the room and bathroom was great.
Cons: We didn't get a very warm welcome and often we felt we were imposing as staff would let us stand around for quite sometime before acknowledging us. There was almost no information about how the pool and spa facilities work so my husband and I didn't quite know where we were going, whether we should take our towels, etc. The pool area is very basic but that was clear to us when we booked. These things aren't the end of the world but it makes for a much more pleasant stay if staff are forthcoming and welcoming of questions. The restaurant was very accommodating to my celiac disease but the food wasn't outstanding.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Everything was provided to make our stay relaxing and pleasant. Lovely breakfast. Very friendly staff.
4.0 Okay
Pros: The staff were extremely friendly and helpful.food was really lovely, both dinner and breakfast.
Cons: Towels given to us for pool were worse than floor towels, very small and one had holes in! We had a ground floor room near reception and it was very noisy, vans at midnight outside room opening and shutting doors and staff walking to and from staff room (our doors were very close) and hoover on at 8am on Sunday morning! The restaurant was a bit soulless, felt like a make shift restaurant, with a few tables set up in a conference room.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Food was lovely. Hotel was beautiful. Had afternoon tea dinner that evening and breakfast the next day.
Cons: Incorrect advertising. Photos shown for a superior double which we booked actually show the honeymoon suite which isn’t what we got. Our room was lovely but not what we booked and couldn’t upgrade as it was already booked.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Loved the staff, all amazing, beautiful hotel, wonderful location and everyone is very accommodating. Can’t wait to return.

7.3 Good
Pros: The hotel location is beautiful. Old and charming with slanted floors but modern bathrooms. Staff were second to none , very polite and helpful at all times.

Cons:
6.0 Good
Pros: lovely decor - beautiful rooms and great service
Cons: the heating was a bit hit and miss - and went off at various times making it quite cold - we were in a room (8) with 3 outside walls, so it was freezing mid afternoon!
6.4 Good
Pros: The interior of the hotel was impressive and the bed extremely comfortable
Cons: Swimming pool too far away and near what appeared to be industrial units
5.6 Okay
Pros: breakfast
Cons:
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Amazing fitness facilities. Great gym and a huge pool. Not at all busy either. The gym staff were the friendliest I have ever met, were fab. Hotel staff slightly more harried but very helpful and friendly too. The rooms were fantastic- spacious, huge bed with duvet and crisp linen. Flat screen TV with built in DVD player won my boyfriend's approval!
Cons: Breakfast on weekdays is only 7-9am. Bit irritatingly early if you are there for leisure

9.6 Excellent
Pros: Relaxed atmosphere, good quality food and drinks, friendly and helpful staff, comfortable rooms, great breakfast. We were attending a 90th birthday drinks reception at Le Talbooth which was less than 5 minutes walk so great location!
Cons: Room 1 décor was a bit busy for our taste (zebra stripe blinds, etc). Not a big deal but something more calming would have been better for us.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: The staff were very friendly, welcoming and accommodating! We had been given a room with a gorgeous walk in shower but being 8 months pregnant, my husband asked if we could be moved to a room with a bath and they upgraded us at no trouble at all! Very pleased with the experience as a whole. Would definitely recommend! Plus pancakes were amazing for breakfast!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The informality. The staff’s graciousness and genuine interest in making our stay as pleasurable as possible. The excellent food and cooking. The bed and pillows were very comfortable. Loved the view of the giant Canadian tree from the dining room. An excellent breakfast too. Thank you Milsom’s. Forgot the love of my husband’s life......Timothy Taylor’s. A perfect pint.
Cons: Only cucumber in the gin and tonic missing. (Personal taste)
7.1 Good
Pros: Superb breakfast cooked specially for each person. Staff really helpful. We we’ll return!
7.0 Good
Pros: I've stayed here before its conveniently by the A12 Rooms are fine I had a luxe corner room on the first floor nice view over the gardens
Cons: Checking in an over long wait at reception to check in why couldn't the manager from the bar assist he was standing by the door but made no attempt to help? Room and bathroom wasn't terribly warm it had been quite dull and overcast could have done with the heating on or available Bed side lamps over bright could have lit a football pitch why no dimmer ? Floor boards creaked badly Bed quite uncomfortable very heavy duvet and not a nice topper think the mattress had seen better days Dinner was ok service was dismal they were quiet I sat at a table which had been vacated some time earlier the waitress then came over and proceeded to spray a solution over the table and wipe so I now had a swimming pool in front of me to her credit she did come back with a cloth to "dry off" sort of the table I ordered a large bottle of sparkling water the glass was actually hot... why very poor Food passable marred by a stale poppadom to finish local strawberries generous but completely tasteless Breakfast I was the only guest at 08.50 I was told seating was on the upper section by the waitress, four tables had been laid up those with a single cover facing the wall, why would you want to face the wall ? I sat on the banquette relaid my setting on the tables dirty food stained breakfast menus awaited, the side plates didn't look clean at all (dishwasher not rinsing or washing properly) so didn't inspire confidence. Good fresh mint tea bought I asked for sour dough toast but none so settled for the poor english pappy white not nice Breakfast could be much better eggs and bacon well cooked sausages were almost cold and seemed reheated mushrooms were overcooked and brown why do chefs need to over cook mushrooms like this and fried bread ditto with some care this could be good, Tiptree preserves but no marmalade or was I just unlucky lots of staff so staffing not an issue but management and training pretty poor

Pros: Lovely, comfortable bed and breakfast run by a super family. We were made to feel very welcome for the duration of our stay. Tasty breakfast was cooked to order. We chose the location because we were attending an anniversary party close by, but would recommend it anyone wanting a relaxing break in a peaceful vineyard. Thank you Charlotte and Mark, we hope to visit again, best wishes the Harrisons.
Cons: More of a comment than “what didn’t you like “. If we were being really picky perhaps a hand hold of some sort might be a useful addition to the shower.

Pros: Our room was spotlessly clean, the bed so comfortable and the shower spacious, efficient; although the pump feeding it was a little noisy. The breakfast that we had each morning was superb, so delicious, beautifully cooked and perfectly delivered to our table in the breakfast room. Our hosts made us feel totally at home, nothing was too much trouble despite them being busy with the day to day running of their Vineyard and also hosting a Wedding during the time we stayed too.
Cons: Not applicable as all excellent.
