Pros: The setting of the Old Dairy Farm is what really makes it such a special place - high on a Sussex Ridge with glorious views of the green countryside all around. Debbie is the most friendly and helpful hostess providing welcoming Tea and Eats in the comfort of her wonderful large conservatory facility. Every need was attended to including information about where to eat and even booking our choice for us - thank you. All the rooms at Dairy Cottage are large and well equipped and we had a really quiet night. Breakfast was lovely and|Debbie could not have done more to make our stay any more wonderful. We really enjoyed our stay and will return when we are next down that way.
Cons: Nothing - we enjoyed it all !

Cons: The breakfast was very slow to arrive... not a lot bad I can say!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We have stayed here before several times and have never been disappointed. The staff are always friendly and the accommodation is excellent. The breakfasts are amazing! We visit a relative at Southbourne regularly and the Hampshire Hog is conveniently located for this and for general sightseeing in the area.
Cons: A very slight problem - wifi accessibility is sometimes quirky, but we have found this can be solved by sitting in the reception area with the laptop/ipad, so not a problem for us.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Loved the friendly welcome, the package of goodies in the room, spacious room and comfy bed, and a desk which was great as I needed to work. The pub / restaurant is lovely and the food great. Staff especially are really friendly and professional. Beautiful location with outdoor seating and a great view over the hills.
Cons: The only thing I didn't like was the security light outside my window which was on all night, and the curtains didn't block it out so I kept waking up thinking it was morning. Such a shame because the rest of the stay was amazing.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Fresh milk in the fridge was a huge bonus especially having a 2 years old with us. All the complimentry bits like cider, apples and pork scratchings were a lovely touch. Bed was lovely. Room spotless. Breakfast was great cant fault it. We've moved away from Hampshire but have family and friends we visit so will definitely be staying here again.
Cons: Not one complaint. Great hotel.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything else was great.
Cons: Breakfast - did not like the Eggs Royale - one egg was almost raw & the other egg had a hard yolk, also had far too much sauce - all spoilt it. Dinner - did not like lots of charcoal edges on my chicken burger, rest of burger was okay but bland.

Cons: Room pricing on the high side for single occupancy.
7.0 Good
Cons: Very long wait for food ,ordered for dinner with no indication that it was going to be 50 minute wait for 2 simple dishes. On asking if it was coming told it was just being plated up but it took 15 mins to arrive at the table, only to find that veg had been substituted with peas as had run out of the green leafy veg that was on menu.

Pros: The place overall was v good no complaints about the room or the food.
Cons: I thought the receptionist could have been a little more friendly ask questions such as how was your journey etc to demonstrate at least a passing interest in the customer before launching straight into that will be £69
6.8 Good
Pros: Excellent
Cons: The exceptionally hard mattress. I am used to an orthopaedic mattress, but this was quite ridiculous, the hardest I've ever slept on. Have recently had a total hip replacement so this was an unpleasant disappointment. There was also a huge step outside the en suite shower room/loo door; quite dangerous.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Visited coal exchange pub very good and the two fat olives in the evening a very good restaurant which u need to book in advance.

Rowlands Castle Bnb - Rowland's Castle - Building
9
8.7 Excellent (46 reviews)
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very cosy room, nice host.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: We needed to leave early (07:30), before breakfast was served, however, we were shown where the breakfast items were the evening before and made very welcome to get it ourselves had we wished to do so. As it happens, in the morning my wife wasn't feeling too well so we didn't take breakfast. It is a shared bathroom on the floor below at the bottom of the steep steps, but all of this was explained before we arrived, so no issues there.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: excellent hospitality from the host.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: The host Herb and his wife Susan were brilliant.
Cons: The stairs up to the bedroom were a little too steep. The beds were too comfortable,,, causing us to struggle to wake before 10am.

Breakfast was a choice of cereals/fruit/yoghurts/toast and then a small cooked breakfast which was sufficient for us. More was available if you requested. Thank you for a lovely stay, we will be popping over again in a couple of years.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Super place, very clean and tidy
7.5 Good
Pros: Nice couple running it much more homley than Hotel
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Susanne and her husband were totally friendly and did everything to make us feel comfortable. They went the extra mile to give us tips for our sightseeing plans. Charming house, comfortable beds, and a small tea corner in the room made it especially cozy. Breakfast was ample, fresh and was served with much attention. Highly recommended.
Cons: The stairs between the bedroom upstairs and the bathroom downstairs are indeed very steep and narrow, just as the host had made it clear in advance. if someone needs to visit the bathroom in the night, it can especially be difficult for senior people or people with physical aptitude.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Sausan the host was extremely welcoming and accommodating to our needs. We arrived late from a wedding and she let us in at a late hour before even meeting us. We then had a disaster as my car keys were accidently stolen at the wedding. She helped us in our time of need and let us wait in her home whilst we waited for the keys to be returned.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful house set in a lovely village, our room was stunning and very clean and comfortable Don’t be put off by the shared bathroom it really isn’t a problem at all.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: the quality, proffesionlism, friendliness, comfort.
6.3 Good
Pros: Quiet. Evening meal was good. There was a nice cafe nearby where I was able to get breakfast. Suggest the hotel owners do a deal with the Bumble Bee Cafe if they don't want to engage a breakfast chef.
Cons: Because the hotel was empty there was no breakfast. However, the bar staff did give me some food to take to the room the night before. The internet server had crashed and there was no one around to fix it. Saucers and spoons in the room were dirty. Shower bracket was broken.

Pros: English breakfast was terrific, well cooked and good ingredients. The iced water at the bar was a nice touch.
Cons: As usual with most hotels at the price range the water pressure at the shower was dreadful.
4.5 Okay
Pros: The garden was lovely.
Cons: One of the staff members at my check was not very pleasant. Lady with dark hair. Thank goodness she was not working at the weekend. The rest of the staff were very nice. The room was so hot we could not breathe although they did provide an extra fan but it wasn’t enough. Breakfast wasn’t included and was very expensive to buy as the rooms were very pricey to begin with.

3.0 Mediocre
Pros: Nothing tbh!
Cons: We arrived at the property at 12.30 after a long journey to get there. I am very unwell at the moment and waiting on results for suspected bowel cancer, so as you can imagine the journey had been very painful! I had ticked the box on booking.com to say we would like to check in between 12 and 1! We were told by the check in guy (Miles) rather abruptly that check in wasn’t until 3pm My partner asked the man at the counter (Miles) if we could please go into our room a little early as 1: we had requested it when booking and 2: I was feeling very unwell and needed to have my morphine and lie down. He outright said no we can’t as there are no rooms cleaned (without checking) and it’s not possible, my partner then tried to reason with him as i was in agony, to which he said you can have a room early if we pay him an extra £20!! So there obviously was a room clean, we just had to pay for it! So we went of and had lunch and left our bags there! When we came back it was 1.45 so an hour and 15 min until check in, by which point I was in absolute agony! He still told us we had to pay £20 extra, which at this point we did because I had to lie down or I was going to collapse! We had already booked a delux room so in total including the extra money the charge came to £150. Going into our room we could see that it was not cleaned properly! There disgusting carpet was filthy, there was a persons belt under the chair, contact lense containers by the bed and tissues in the toilet! Laying down on the bed the pillow honestly smelt funky, kinda like cheesy balls! I tossed the pillow to the side and put my head down on my jumper! Our nights sleep was terrible as you could hear everything going on around you! Baby’s crying all night, drunk people shouting down the corridor from the wedding going on and the room was so hot that we were both dripping in sweet and had to sleep with all the windows open which added to the noise level!
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Cleaning staff were amazing. So happy and pleasant every day.
7.0 Good
Pros: The location was fabulous and the swimming pool worked a treat
Cons: There wasn’t air conditioning and the bathroom smelled
6.3 Good
Pros: Food good room nice but horrible sick smell near function room!
Cons: A bit dated in the pool area and carpet areas
6.8 Good
Pros: Nice size rooms, old property but reinvigorated. Friendly staff and plenty of outside space to enjoy the sunshine & sunsets..,
Cons: Peninsula access at busy times meant lots of time at junctions, could add to travel time so be aware. Weddings are a life source of this place so also be aware of overzealous activity’s till the early hours, busy breakfast not dealt with particularly well!
7.5 Good
Pros: Great bar area offering lots of different drinks, staff were very helpful & friendly. Rooms were spacious.
Cons: The shower curtain is awful and make the room smell very musty. Breakfast was bit of a shambles, the only tea machine that was working was out in bar area.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great location, reception, bar and dining areas just been refurbished.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Location. Staff were very friendly and helpful.
Cons: Bed too soft! Because some areas have been refurbished it makes other areas look quite tired.

9.3 Excellent
Pros: Very comfortable, beautiful surroundings, in countryside. Warm welcome, with tea & cake in the garden. Lovely breakfast. Made to feel
Cons: Nothing. Just not there long enough!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The rooms (bedroom and sitting room) were cosy and very nice. Location is down a couple of single track lanes in a very quiet valley. Everything was spotless, with great decor and best of all a very warm welcome from Melanie and Paul. Breakfast cooked from local (farm 2 miles up the road) produce and very well cooked. Felt spoilt and very much enjoyed it. Nothing was too much trouble :)
Cons: Only minor glitch was poor / non-existent internet connection but that problem appears to lie with BT and not the establishment. Phone signal a bit hit and miss depending on network. Not sure that is a didn't like or a rather nice to be isolated!

Overview Reviews
With a stay at The Crown Hotel in Emsworth, you'll be within a 15-minute drive of Fishbourne Roman Palace and Chichester Cathedral. The front desk is staffed during limited hours. Free self parking is available onsite.
2.5 Mediocre
Pros: Absolutely nothing
Cons: Staff were rude and unhelpful with the booking as it was paid online and the staff said it wasn't even tho we had the conformation and receipt, had to get booking.com to ring the property after an hour to find out that the error was on the hotels behalf as they had to bill booking.com in which they knew fine rightly. Rooms were basic and no hot water, we had to get a cold shower which is unacceptable in this day and age. For the price we paid and the hassle we had the hotel was ridiculous, I wouldn't even give this hotel a 1 star.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Staff were lovely especially Veronica. Food was fabulous. Sussex Smokies were absolutely gorgeous.
Cons: Bathroom was chlostraphobic plumbing was dodgy and pipes were clanking. Took the shower ages to warm up. Shower cubicle door wouldn't stay closed.
5.8 Okay
Pros: Food was good, beds were comfy
Cons: Room decor was old and shabby bathroom was very poor
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The receptionist was so helpful and accommodating
Cons: There wasn’t anything that i did not like
7.5 Good
Pros: Get we like the room but we did not get a breakfast this morning when we left it was £81 and in price and inclusive for breakfast in the price it was on booking.com but we did not get the breakfast that we required
Cons: Yeah the fact that we didn't get a breakfast this morning that was included in the price
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great welcome staff so friendly, food was fantastic ,can’t say enough about the propriety, Would definitely recommend this pub.
6.8 Good
Pros: It's rooms above a popular pub in a very central location and a historic building. The person helping me check in and out was very friendly, but my friend had called for me to ask about the check in time and was treated quite rudely. I needed a place to stay near my friend's country home and the location was quite perfect and Emsworth is a lovely town.
Cons: Be aware that this is incredibly noisy, especially if you are staying there on a Saturday night and a band is playing. You are basically in the bar with them and you can hear every conversation people have on the patio which can be seen from the window of the room. If you want to be part of the action, don't mind very basic facilities, and appreciate an old building, it's great. If you are hoping for a quiet sleep in a comfortable bed, this is not the place for you.
6.3 Good
Pros: the pub food is ok
Cons: reception was cool, and hastly - wall to wall carpet really is out of date and not hygienic
4.3 Okay
Pros: Convenient location. Room was clean - and see below.
Cons: - On going to bed we discovered that the bedside light had no bulb - The door had no working lock on either the inside or the outside despite an old and impressive looking handle and key hole on the outside of the door. This was a security risk for valuables when we were not in the room and for us in terms of other, possibly drunken guests, coming into our room in the night. - The room was very noisy because of a pump that pumped water under the sink and a macerator that emptied the toilet. Both seemed to come on at random during the night. - The macerator turned out to be faulty, and in the morning we discovered a small pool of macerated sewage around the WC - The shower did not work as the lever that needs to be pulled up to switch the flow to the shower was jammed. - There was only WiFi in the bar, not in the room. When I first asked for log in details, the landlord said all the details were in the room, which was not true. Later he said no password was needed but that I log on in the bar and then go to the room. This did not work. - One other thing that is relevant, but not unreasonable in a pub room, music from the band in the bar was particularly loud until midnight. - When I reported the problems to the landlord, he said he was "surprised" and that "nobody tells me anything" and offered a £50 refund.

Pros: The lady was nice enough.
Cons: The room was too small for a double, the TV didn't work, the door don't lock and the bathroom across the landing didn't have a shower. Breakfast was very poor, 3 boxs of cheap sugary cereals, white toast with only jam spreads available, and im diabetic, and it's served in the one little kitchen, so you feel quite intrusive, there's a little dog getting under your feet, not good if your not exactly a dog person.

3.8 Mediocre
Cons: Noisy, directly above bar, deplapided, could only fill bath from shower, loo didn't flush properly, loo seat loose, bed too soft, carpet stained and dirty, mould on bathroom, had to boil kettle on floor as lead didn't reach, no mirror at desk for hair drying, occasional furniture should be in a skip, street noisy, no double glazing, could hear people in room above, single bed under TV, food OK but woke up with dodgy tummy( not usual at all), staff friendly but over stretched. Dining room sole less . Good parking!!
