Charming exterior, nice location, welcoming bar area, room clean. Overpriced for the service offered - 96 for very small room and no breakfast incl (didnt stay for breakfast as 8 x 2 seemed expensive on top of 96 for very basic room). Shower curtain in bathroom was dirty and mouldy - strange as supposedly hotel just refurbished staff were efficient but not particularly helpful or enthusiastic. Check in was somewhat confusing as not immediately obvious where reception was located Map on hotel website was unhelpful. Entrance to car park is concealed and the roads in the area are part of one way system
quietness no plugs for electric razors in the bathroom
Very little No heating, no hot water, faulty kettle, faulty shower, shower tray overflowed
It was convenient for my requirements. The hotel entrance and car par was difficult to find and the hotel itself was drab and dreary inside. It smelt of cigarette smoke. There was no-one at reception when I arrived and no bell available to call anyone.
The period features, wonky floors, fresh clean bed linen, plenty of hot water for the showering. I couldn't fault the cleanliness of the bathroom. I thought the room was rather basic and small for a "Superior" room. I would prefer "real" milk and hot chocolate in the tea making facilities. The kettle also didn't boil but switched off too soon.
Staff were pleasant and helpful Problem with shower, would not turn off properly
This hotel had plenty of "old world" charm and was located in the small town of Royston which had some interesting history to offer, particularly its cave, as well as being surrounded by pleasant countryside near to the city of Cambridge.
Unpretentious Food not great. We only had breakfast.
Uncomfortable, soft bed.
Ease of Parking and location. A birthday function was in full swing on arrival with a loud disco going until midnight but reception told me they couldnt change our allocated rooms to quieter rooms. Choice of Breakfast cereals limited to coco pops. Fresh fruit would have been nice at breakfast.
Value for money, situation, dinner menu and service, staff and breakfast - all plus points Bathroom very small and badly designed
We were attending a function at the hotel, the food and service throughout were excellent. Although the stting is perfect and the service good...the accomodation is looking very tired and dated. The cost did not relate to the quality.
A beautiful setting, warm and welcoming interior, charming staff, delicious breakfast and excellent value for money. A perfect bed and breakfast for anyone wanting to visit Cambridge and surrounding areas. It was Sunday evening and I wasn't told until I arrived that there was no food or bar available.
Setting, staff and food Not really a hotel for business travellers as there are poor evening facilities. The bar is an afterthought, you are not encouraged to stay up, bedtime would suit them if everyone was gone by 10pm. No Sky Sports in fact no tv in the bar. Draught beer and lager was not available. Bedrooms do not have proper showers, in general. Bedrooms small, cramped and tatty (quirky)
Noisy, room was above reception Booked a double room online but was only given a single. No other rooms were available and hotel said they ahd been booked all week!
Beautiful setting. Nice rooms, and bathrooms. Lovely bar and sitting area. Great breakfast. Pleasant staff, good relaxed feeling. We would stay there again, if in the area. Didn't stay long enough.
Peaceful setting and the opportunity to entertain our guests with 1st rate food in excellent surroundings. There was also easy accessability to village amenities. If car parking bays had been more defined there would have been room for more vehicles for patrons.
Lovely design/decoration of communal and private rooms. Excellent breakfast. No mirror in bathroom [husband had to shave in bedroom]. Squeaking bathroom door.
It was quaint and unique. I also liked the pond and scenery out the back plus the food was good I could hear a lot of what was going on outside my room
The room was excellent The bar and resteraunt were closed leaving mr without anywhere to eat within walking distance. U had an early departure and was hoping for an early breakfast at 7am but got nothing and wasn't even offered a cup of coffee!
Proximity to airport was very useful and check out as well as car collection service were both good The carpet in room and corridor were not as clean as they could have been. Check-in was very slow!
the location as it serves the airport very well. The rooms are comfortable and the staff very helpful. The cost of drinks and meals. I with many others leave the hotel and eat and socialise in the airport. If the food and drink bill was less then people would be more likely to stay and eat on the premises. I even know people who avoid the hotel because of the cost
I had only one night at the Radisson Blu but it was great. Dinner at the Italian restaurant was memorable - unusual, creative dishes. My room was, for me, very spacious and luxurious. The breakfast buffet was outstanding and had a wonderful assortment including fresh fruit salad, which is a rarity indeed. I had time to use the heated swimming pool.and enjoyed it very much. Then a quick but tasty lunch in the bar before departure. All the staff were excellent - friendly and helpful. I especially appreciated a late check out as well as a concierge facility that allowed me to leave a large suitcase both at no additional charge. I didn't mind paying for the excellent facilities and service. Well worth it.
Friendly staff, clean room, just next to terminal building (2 min walk), quick check-in and check-out.
The hotel's position close to the airport terminal. The comfortable room. One of the eating places ('Paella' or the like) was advertised in the room and in the lifts, but was closed "for the season".
The location, a short walk from the airport terminal. Very convenient. The room, the quiet. The staff was very helpful. The swimming pool closing at 07.30 PM. also, the hotel was a bit pricey.
The room was great. Mattress was super comfortable. Location was also great as we were staying because of a layover. Breakfast buffet was also the best I have ever had. Food prices at restaurant were a little pricey for what was offered. Room smelled a little of smoke. Suggestion: perhaps offer complimentary water bottles in rooms?
The minibar was stocked
Spacious room and comfortable bed. Walking distance from the airport.
The hotel is new and very clean and has all the necessary facilities for a pleasant stay. There was no family room and so I had to take two rooms with a connecting door for a family of four.
Reasonably sized room. Comfortable bed. Clean with one noteable exception. Airport accessible via covered walkway - 2 or 3 minutes at most. Broken glass on bathroom floor. Food and drinks a little pricey. Compulsory service charge for waiter service in main bar area.
Easy access to the airport... Price.
The hotel is very near to Stansted airport. There is a hotel shuttle at the airport. After 13 hours of long flight and reached UK at 8pm, it is very convenient to stay at the nearest hotel as it is only 5 minutes from the airport with comfortable and clean room.
It was convenient The check-in clerk was surly and offhand, and was ignorant. She also vaguely pointed in the wrong direction for the elevator/lift. A later desk clerk who entered my Priority Club number was very helpful.
everything I would like somebody to speak other languages. spanish for exemple
Pretty good value for the price, the hotel is very clean and quiet, the location for connecting flights is perfect, the transfer to the airport is well-organized. The price for the transfer was quite high
The room was great, very confortable and tidy. Breakfast could've had more variety.
nice facilities, room on good condition, staff are very helpful there should be wireless connection available inside the room, so that we dont't have to come down at the lobby for longer period (very cold)
Bed comfortable Room far too warm when i arrived and in order to cool down the airconditioning had to be left on all night and it was noisy therefore could not sleep.
Surprised that they did not offer early morning breakfast pack in the room especailly as they are at an airport. Cheaper hotels do. Also what happened to the travel bag hooks at reception?
relative close location to STN n.a.
bar staff - really caring and giving a chocolate bar to our baby girl whihc was a nice gesture the food served in thehotel restaurant - the dinner - the food was cold and a siz e of portion misearble
Express check in was easy. Room was very clean, loved the extra pillows and helpful sleeping tips. Perfect for short stay. Also loved the shampoo installed in bathroom so I didn't have to unpack my stuff! Bathroom was a little like a hospital but that's also to say it was very clean, not really a problem. Also dialed down to reception and didn't get an answer, at 1am, but note says 24 hour reception.
Lovely room , the most comfortable bed I have ever slept on in a hotel. Valet parking was excellent. Great location next to shops and restaraunts Nothing of note
Staff were pleasant and helpful Room spacious and facilities good Nice touch to have the magazines to read and the luxuries in the bathroom The lighting in the room was poor - one light inbetween the beds was totally inadequate if you wanted to read in bed - room too dark - an additional standard lamp would have been better. The website indicated that the hotel was near to the Aracde Car Park, giving the impression it was easy to park - in fact it was not. When we arrived the car park was full and we had to spend an age trying to find parking facilities and then walk with our luggage to the hotel. The price also for parking was ridiculous - our main objective during our stay was to drive away from Cambridge each day to stay out of the city as long as we could knowning that when we did return the cost of parking would be far too high. Not something we had bargained for.
Pleasant, helpful staff Slowish service in the restaurant
very nice staff, extremely good value for money
I was held up for three hours in Customs at Heathrow and advised staff that I would not make the first night of a four night stay. They were not helpful in assisting me in finding another Hilton. I specifically was told by the clerk on check out that I would not be charged for the missed night, but discovered that indeed I have been charged and I am writing sepaerately for a refund. Staff in the bar treated me like a vagrant beaucse my room was not ready and I only had casual clothes. It was only when I put my expensive suit on that I received decent service.
Ideal location in the center, excellent breakfast, hotel has been fully updated, Internet access is now included/free, the staff was very friendly. I have stayed a handful of times over the past 3-4 years and feel it has been improving. Definitely my first choice when traveling to Cambridge
The staff were all extremely pleasant and friendly. The room was very large and comfortable and the breakfast was yummy! It is the best possible location for a theatre break as Cambridge Arts and the Corn Exchange are both a very short walk away.
Proximity to the event I was going to. Staff not great or particularily welcoming.
The helpfulness of the staff at Reception was very high. I have an accident with my glasses and needed selotape and a pair of scissors. This was produced very quickly. Directions to a local restaurant was also quickly provided together with a large scale map. Quality of the breakfast can be better.
So pleasant and enjoyable!
Very friendly staff Carpets require cleaning in the room. General decor needs refreshing, looks tired and slightly grubby.
Impressive exterior to the building and well meaning staff The breakfast was hot well cook and hot plates so the food did not go cold No restaurant facilities in the evening - the only offerring was a bar menu of jacket potatoes, pasty or sandwiches. The 'chef' was stopping work at 8.00 pm presumably health and safety were worried about potential microwave overdose. No facilities, other than a bar which had no background music, no tv and no sky sports - all requirements for a business traveller, hence no customers. We popped in to the bar a 6.30 before going to a meeting and returned aat 9.15 - there had been no custom between those hours and there were no other clients until we left at 10.15 Breakfast was on long tables not separate tables and no table service
The location of the hotel was perfect and the comfort and amenities in the room were excellent. I would also rate the buffet breakfast very highly. This is a small point - the quality of the room service meal could have been a little better and the hotel is quite expensive. However, overall the stay was excellent and I really liked this hotel. For a lovely weekend stay in a great location by the river I would definitely recommend it.
It was a great central location. A comforatable hotel with leisure facilities. The staff on reception were a bit hit and miss with experience and reception was not always manned.
Efficient friendly staff, clean comfortable room with a river view. Very good breakfast. Only negative is paying a £17.50 parking cost which to be fair is made clear on the website, but a bit excessive I feel.
Hotel was fine but price was not. Friend booked the same room for £79 via Secret Room.com, you charged us £199 per night so we are very, very unhappy about that. The price.
Cambridge is an expensive location by any standards. The hotel in question was generally excellent the only cause for complaint, apart from price, was that breakfast was not included.Bar service could be a bit slow but staff were very friendly. Location was excellent in fact hard to beat in this location and it was worth paying extra for the river view. Lunch in the riverside restaurant was dissapointing but again if you want to relax with a glass of wine and watch the river go by the food will not be your principle concern. As stated above the fact that breakfast was not included for such an amount of money is a bit of a joke.
Very loud disco to midnight, we were not warned beforehand, so no chance of sleep after long journey. Not acceptable that we were not warned or offered alternative accommadation
Location, leisure facilities & overall ambience
All user friendly, pleasant and helpful staff. Car Park charge
The location is excellent. Very close to the city but away from the bustling crowd. The gardens looking out to the river is perfect for a summer wedding. The rooms are clean, comfortable and modern with generous supply of toiletries. The internet service is slow in the rooms and rather expensive.
Nice location; comfortable room with great view of river Hotel styling and feel are dated and plain; expensive internet
Excellent location close to historic centre of Cambrige with its famous colleges, Kings College Chapel and punting on the Cam. Breakfast room located outside the hotel itself, albeit in a building immediately adjacent. You still have to go outside to get to breakfast - annoying on cold, wet or snowy mornings.
Excellent room and breakfast. A wider selection of drinks in the hotel lobby would have been good.
Excellent staff Excellent breakfast Poor design of room No parking No view
Good balcony .excellent aspect on a clear day No car park.not many tv channels.king room bed only 5 ft wide.I thought would be much wider
Varied choice for breakfast with a pleasant view out onto the river cam. Conveniently situated for the Fitzwilliam, Kettles Yard and shops.
The room was lovely and the facilities within it were fabulous. The view over Cambridge was great Having to go outside for breakfast was odd. The lack of a hotel bar or place to meet was a bit strange too. I also think the staff serving breakfast seemed a bit amateurish. It wasn't very clear how things worked and no-one explained.
Great location, friendly staff, comfortable rooms. Lovely bathroom. Very enjoyable stay. The much trumpeted "excellent views" were a bit of a damp squib, though. We had a "Senior Fellows" room on the 2nd floor and had an excellent view directly into... the communal kitchen area of Jesus College's undergrad block, some ten yards opposite. The floor-to-ceiling glazing just left us feeling a bit exposed.
Beautifully appointed new wing added to original building we felt welcome from the moment we arrived. Staff friendly and helpful, room well appointed and delicious food served in the restaurant.
Excellent Hotel. The food was outstanding.
Beds and rooms were comfortable. We were moved promptly to an alternative room when there was a problem with the plumbing in the initial room. Pillows too soft
Decent bed and linen Poor service, poor cooking, overpriced breakfast, chipped crockery, dirty carpets, ugly new buildings, view of carpark, need I go on......
good setting and layout, comfortable bedroom, excellent bathroom charging for internet is bad customer relations given the price
Relaxed pleasant atmosphere, friendly and efficient staff Difficulty in booking a table at a convenient time for us in the restaurant (on arrival). Would recommend others to book a table well in advance of stay. Food excellent though.
the staff were extremely friendly and helpful. the room was very comfortable and loved the fact that it had a cd player.
Food & peace Poor selection in mini bar
Very welcoming, comfortable and clean; efficiently run ; very good restaurant
Friendly, courteous staff at reception and in restaurant. Breakfast was basic, but actually quite good, particularly recommend the homemade granola! Room was a little cold, the heating is basically electric wall heaters, and not sure this was sufficient for the room. The bathroom also relied on the towel rail to warm it! Restaurnat a little pricey, although the food was very good! Located just a little bit too far to walk into town!
Very friendly staff. Hope they are paid a decent wage!
Very pleasant setting and comfortable and clean accom. A good breakfast
food bed single malt
The staff are curteous. The hotel atmosphere is quiet and relaxing. The standard twin room that I got was, in my opinion, slightly below in standard for the price.
Very comfortable and relaxing atmosphere. "Off the beaten track" but not far from town
We stayed while there was a wedding on and unfortunately we couldn't enjoy a relaxing drink in the gardens as we felt that we were in the way and also there was not enough seating outside, so had to take our drinks back to the room. We had booked to eat in the restaurant in the evening but unfortunately there was a gas failure,we felt we were not dealt with in a very professional way.
convenient and friendly cooperative staff
Nice clean room and staff excellent.Lovely pool.Good selection in bar. Buses irregular pm to Cambridge.Taxi option expensive.
The food was excellent, you have a very good chef who makes good use of local ingredients I always have trouble with being too hot at night with a duvet.
Location, freindly staff, Room was too small, bathroom not big enough, having booked 4 rooms 2 couples outside in modern blocks and the other couple and us inside in 2 small rooms not ideal. room price for bed only for 4 couples we feel was exspensive. looking at the reviews if we had paid £30£-40 less per room like a lot of them we would have been a happier group and would all have stayed for breakfast.
The gym, the bar
The courteous, efficient, competent staff-- "service- oriented," how refreshing!! Very professional staff. Not a thing! Look forward to my next visit. Best place to stay for London Stansted!
At four stars- you would hope for everything better. The rooms are out of date and unclean. Shabby with wprn down wood, very dusty air vents and bad beds
We only stayed for one night. Left early in the morning! The bed was ok!
no Sky Sports in room, infrequent transfers
Good bed and linnen was probably the best feature of the hotel. The hotel is in need of deep renovation. Especially the bathroom was in a bad condition and only 2 star.
Very friendly staff. Comfortable and clean room. Good price. Convenient for Stansted Airport.
Checked in 2a.m. left 6a.m Very disappointed to get a room with two twin beds. To late in the night to argue. Price for the room was very hig versus accomidation.
Rooms - too small Breakfast - too expensive for the quality
very comfortable bed
The staff was amazing! Very accomidating to our every need!
Near the Airport Had to pay for the shuttle bus to and from the airport, should be free service. Rooms not as nice as other Hilton hotels.
Good location for Stansted and still quiet at night.
Very professional, courteous staff, nothing was too much trouble. The food was excellent. The room was clean and comfortable, room service was very good. Wonderful location. There was no lift to our room - but on a positive note the staff were happy to carry our bags up and down the stairs.
The staff is very friendly, the food and accomodation is excellent and the surroundings are beautiful.
The very relaxed atmosphere and the good service Bar prices are over priced even by central London standards where I live
Grounds and building are beautiful, very peaceful. The perfect weekend retreat. Some of the furnishings looked a little worn
Too far away from anything
Very nice hotel for some one stay overnight in Stansted Airport area and want to have a sniff of the English Landlord era.A walk through the hotel and garden is already relaxing before having a drink in the comfortable bar. Helpfull staff . Taxi from Stansted 21 gbp
The bed in the room was of a very high class. It enabled us to sleep soundly for a refreshing start to the following day. Downs Hall is a period hotel with some astounding features. Visitors still require modern bathroom/shower facilities in their rooms. Downs Hall was lacking in this department.
Comfortable room and dinner was good There is no lift to the 2nd floor (or certainly not that I was told about or directed to); the stair carpet between floors 1 and 2 is v worn; it was rather warm/stuffy in corridors; there is no quick route to car park, guests must walk out of the front and round the Hall to the back for the car park.
We liked the history of the hotel and the extreme confort of the hotel, it was a wonderful break feeling like we were in our own bubble for the weekend. We thought the wedding exhibition on in the morning made things a little hectic and the wedding guests in the restuarant also detracted from our relaxed morning.
