When you stay at Fireman Center in Parikkala, you'll be 8 minutes by car from Saaren Church. Free self parking is available onsite.
Pros: The hotel owner is very kind and very willing to provide whatever helps she can. Room is very special and kids like the room very much.
Cons: It’s better to install the dishwashing machine.
Pros: Lovely family run hotel with a super friendly owners:) our grand son was so excited with collection of different firemen equipment, toys and decoration of the room. He is still asking us to come back for sevral days:) Rooms are clean and tidy! Bathroom and kithcen are equipped with all needed facilities.
Cons: Nothing, just we wished to stay longer...:))))
Pros: I was staying at the hotel for a night, but would certainly come back again with my family for longer. A nice peaceful place with the gorgeous landscapes, located really conveniently to reach from the motorway. It is run by a friendly family speaking Finnish, English and Russian who were easy to contact and nice sharing with me all the information about the area and surroundings. The interior of the hotel made in style of the fireman center can be of special interest for families with children. My room was exceptionally clean with the bed of the best mattress I ever had in a hotel (crucial for my back). I would highly recommend Fireman center hotel to stay if you like travelling with comfort and and escape the hectic of the city!
Pros: Everything is great. You feel your self as at home. If you have children they will be happy to see all that fireman equipment. There is no breakfast, but Olga,i think she is the owner, has backed some cookies for us. I will definitely come back.
Pros: The idea is very good. Location is somewhat handy. Personnel is friendly. A lot of toys for kids.
Cons: Although intentions are good hotel is not very comfortable overall. There is no tv in the room, you have to take off your footwear and there are little flip flops provided. Floor is quite cold (one storey building). Bathroom is not appealing and looks rather dark. There is definitely a room for improvement.
When you stay at this cottage in Kitee, you'll be on the beach and 13 minutes by car from Kesalahti Church. The front desk is staffed during limited hours. Free self parking is available onsite.
Pros: Absolutely hospitable atmoshere, fireplace, sauna, Saima... - we want to come back again and again! Unfortunately we needed to leave one day ealier - we were very pleased that cost of our stay was reduced accordingly.
Pros: Good Sauna and warm and spacy cottage
Cons: No frying pan. Staff was not interested how our stay was.
Pros: The location of the cottage is perfect, 15 meters away from the beautiful and clean lake. The cottage is equipped with all necessary stuff and it is really cozy. There is a special place on the beach for barbecue. Our children enjoyed the time playing golf and tennis. I can mark onle one disadvantage there were too many moscquitoes due to warm and early summer in Finland. We are going to visit Ruoke Holiday Village in August!!
Cons: Hungry mosquitoes!!
Pros: Excellent place for family. We were with two kids - 2 years and 4 months. It was clean and warm in the house, all staff in the house was in place. Just do what you want: grill, rent a snow bike, skiing, fishing, etc. Nature is excellent, the houses are situated few meters from the lake. And you can order a dinner in the house - try the salmon, it is very nice!
Cons: Bad internet connection in cottages
Overlooking Lake Simpele, this countryside property is within 10 minutes’ drive of Parikkala. It provides guest rooms, a restaurant and free Wi-Fi. Guests can rent bikes, canoes and motor boats. All of Hotel Laatokan Portti’s room options feature a TV, fridge and coffee maker. Guest rooms have either a private bathroom or shared facilities. A daily breakfast buffet can be ordered. Open during summer, the restaurant offers varied lunch and dinner menus including salmon, steaks and chicken. A fish market is located next to the hotel for those that wish to prepare meals themselves. Lake Simpele is popular for swimming and fishing. Fishing equipment is available for rent on site, and snow mobile rental can be arranged. Staff are happy to help organise guided hiking trips and other activities. Punkaharju is within 30 minutes’ drive of Laatokan Portti, while Imatra is 45 minutes’ drive away. KonKaSki Ski Centre, 12.5 km away, has downhill slopes and cross-country ski trails.
Pros: We are keen birdwatchers and this is a superbly located property on a truly lovely lake with lots of birds. The manager was very helpful and friendly and we were more satisfied with the property.
Cons: The beds were singles only and toooooo soft.
Pros: Nice quiet place with few guests. Amazingly comfortable beds and pretty cozy room.
Cons: Late breakfast. There were no options for early birds.
Pros: We spent one night here on our bike tour. Our room had own bathroom. Everything was clean but quite worn down. Also sound isolation of the rooms was very bad- you could hear other guests talk in the neighbouring room. Guesthouse has no dinner but fish shop serves soup in the evening. Service was very friendly and welcoming. Breakfast for 10€ was excellent!! Wide selecion of good quality ingredients. Good value foe money. Remember to book breakfast in advance.
Pros: The bed was extra comfy
Pros: A nice place located on the lakeshore run by very friendly owners. The fish soup was very delicious!
Pros: The lake house is a bit old-fashioned but clean and comfortable. We found all necessary facilities and had a good stay. Fish shop was a bonus.
Cons: Breakfast is an extra (10 EUR per person), which is rather expensive in my opinion. Okay, it's Finland...
Pros: Peaceful lakeside guesthouse with an excellent breakfast, comfortable beds, friendly staff and an impressive fish shop; the fish steak for dinner was the best I’ve ever had. The staff & owner are wonderfully friendly. Exceptional value for what you pay - highly recommnded.
With a stay at Hotel Punkaharju in Savonlinna, you'll be on the beach, just steps from Punkaharju Ridge and a 2-minute drive from Lusto Finnish Forest Museum. Featured amenities include multilingual staff and luggage storage. Guests may use a roundtrip airport shuttle for a surcharge, and free self parking is available onsite.
Pros: We had a super cute and cozy cabin in the forrest, close to the sauna and the beach. The sauna and the Terrasse of the hotel was amazing! We enjoyed lots of coffees and drinks there! The food was simple.
Pros: The main house is gorgeous. We stayed in a forest cabin and were assigned one of the options farthest from the main house. The cabin is very cute and had one of the most comfortable beds ever, as well as fridge and tea/coffee pot. The breakfast buffet was outstanding, with a range of options and great quality. It comes with a lovely serenade if you're lucky. Loved the sauna and jumping into the lake afterward. Unfortunately it was a bit too chilly and windy to enjoy some of the amenities like the terrace and canoes. Rented a bike and enjoyed exploring some of the nearby trails.
Cons: We ended up going back and forth to the main house frequently and those stairs were a lot to handle. It wasn't until our second night that we figured out where the shower room was (no one had told us)... Also found out there was no lock on the women's shower room, which made me very uncomfortable. There seemed to be some confusion about our dinner reservation on the first night and we waited a very long time to be able to eat. It's a shame the sauna was only available early morning. Evening would have been nice, especially during the very long summer days.
Pros: Scenery around the hotel is excellent and it is easy to explore surroundings on foot; walk paths start right from the hotel building. Food is very good and rooms, restaurant and public areas are tastefully restored.
Cons: Building is full of narrow, steep staircases and there is no elevator. Person with limited mobility won't be able to enter the building or move around without assistance. Rooms have no a/c which could be a problem on hot summer days. (these shortcomings are obviously due to building being a protected historical site). There is no hotel staff at all present at night time. It is absolutely necessary to have a car, as any places of interest in the region apart from immediate vicinity of the hotel cannot be reached without a car.
Pros: Excellent little piece heaven tucked away in beautiful scenery. This place combines history, nature and superb food brilliantly.
Pros: Amazing location.
Cons: The communal bathroom. A bit cold in the cottage.
Pros: Although the cottage was a bit pricey, it was worth it as it was cosy and comfortable and very close to water in peaceful surroundings. Breakfast and morning sauna were icings on the cake! Next time we will definitely stay longer.
Cons: Small things that could be better but didn't matter too much: no air-conditioning in the cottage, only 1 shower for all the cottages so another one would be an improvement.
Pros: Super good restaurant: the 4 course menu with local and forest ingredients was way more worth than the price of 53 €. Also high quality brekkie. We had cabins down by the lake side (no running water but toilet opposite the cabin) and they were most beautifully decorated in cool scandinavian style in whites, blues and grays. Super comfy beds. The main building high on the eskers (pink 200 y old huge wooden lace villa) is a travel destination on its own.
Cons: Showers!!! I accept and dont mind communal toilets and showers with the nice cabins, I understand the logic of not having plumbing -> expensive having to heat the empty cabins over looong off season and minus temperatures. BUT 1 shower for a dozen cabins.... seriously? and it wasnt even marked, we thought it was just another toilet, similar doors side by side, couldnt find it at first. Yes yes there is the sauna building with more showers, but in the morning, the men's sauna is from 7.30 to 9 and time for women is from 9.30 to whatever... ridiculous! People want to be having their breakfast by then, some in a hurry to check out and be on their way. So men can have a shower before brekkie, but women cant -> no makeup, doing their hair or anything if they want breakfast at decent hour... Ridiculous!! At least have the other way round, women like a bit more time in the morning, rarely want to walk with wet hair to hotel breakfast, men dont mind so much.
Pros: It is so lovely situated in a fantastic environment. The personel is so friendly and helpful. The rentable bicycles are excellent. The railway station is nearby. Nice bathroom. Nice beachsauna.
Cons: My room was rather small and had hardly any space for storing.
Pros: The location, the staff, breakfast with local and home made stuff. The sauna on the lake side.
Cons: I stayed in the cottage and I find it was expensive, 125 € per night, without shower, toilet and WiFi. The cottage was very comfortable, but the shower was in a container and it wasn't very tempting.
Located in Savonlinna, this cottage is within a 5-minute drive of Punkaharju Ridge and Lusto Finnish Forest Museum. Featured amenities include complimentary newspapers in the lobby, multilingual staff, and luggage storage. Free self parking is available onsite.
Pros: The surrounding landscape is stunning. We walked around the property as well as inside the nature reserve. The cottage is lovely, warm and cozy. There is a mini market and restaurant at the reception. We had burgers and food was awesome. The resort is just in front of the railway station, if you come by public transport. Although it was low season we really enjoyed our stay.
Cons: The cottage looked clean but the previous guests had probably a dog. The sofa was full of hair as well the pillow
Pros: Nice location near the lake, typical red wooden house.
Cons: Noise of the road across the bridge. Sauna takes very long to heat up and is accessible through the toilet.
Pros: A very nice location near the lake and in the woods where you can have a real feeling of peace. The sauna in the cottage is a plus
Pros: Easy Check In, Amazing view on the lake, Spacious cabin
Cons: The fire place was not working correctly, which caused the fire alarms a few times
Pros: Great cottage for a bunch of people being on the road!
Pros: Private sauna, perfect location and close to a lake
Part of Mannila farm estate, this hotel is on the shore of Lake Saima, a 10-minute drive from central Punkaharju. It offers regional cuisine, extensive leisure facilities and a private beach. TVs and private bathrooms are offered in Hotel Rantakatti's basic rooms. Rantakatti Restaurant serves regional specialities. The hotel’s summer café, Hepokatti, next to the stables, offers drinks, snacks and light dishes. Guests have access to a barbecue area and an outdoor smoking oven. Motor boats, row boats and fishing equipment are available to rent in the summer. Recreational facilities include a football field, a beach volleyball court and a skateboard ramp. Horseback riding can be arranged on request. For relaxation, Rantakatti Hotel provides a bookable lakeside sauna, and guests can book massage and other treatments on site. Younger guests can explore Mannila’s petting farm. Wi-Fi is free in public areas, and next to the hotel are free public parking spaces.
Pros: The room was comfortable for an overnight stay. The hotel is located on a lake in the forest and could best be described as a resort where people go to enjoy the outdoors and possibly boating and other water activities. We were on a trip from Oulu to Helsinki and stopped at the Finnish Forestry Museum which is nearby the hotel. The owner met us when we arrived and guided us to a cafe for dinner. The breakfast was excellent and, in a word, never-ending. We were the only guests having breakfast but there was enough food for many more ... right down to dessert!!
Cons: It is off the beaten track and a bit difficult to find although our GPS found it but it is a resort on a lake so it wasn't a negative factor.
Hotelli Kägöne features a restaurant, free bikes, a bar and garden in Parikkala. There is a terrace and guests can make use of free WiFi and free private parking. At the hotel every room includes a desk and a flat-screen TV. Guests at Hotelli Kägöne can enjoy a continental breakfast. The nearest airport is Savonlinna Airport, 64 km from the accommodation.
Pros: Good location, nice building. Check in was listed as continuing until 5 pm, but on Sunday it was actually only till 4 pm. Luckily we got there at 4.30 pm, so there was still somebody there. Nice view from windows to a pond wiht pine forest around. No breakfast service, some ok food available in a room with refrigerator (but with no sink to get fresh water)
Cons: At times internet in the room furthest from the modem was a bit sporadic. Real breakfast is always nicer, but this did work ok.
Pros: Perfect stop on the way to the East. Peaceful well soundproofed building right next to the main road. Nature opens right from the back yard. So it is nice to go for a relaxing walk after the drive. I stayed for one night, but could easily be used for longer stays. I also loved the self servive breakfast. Simple, quick and easy. Got all I needed.
Pros: Great location and comfortable room
Pros: The staff are really helpful and the hotel is very relaxed. The terrace at the back overlooks a small lake and was a great place to chill - just remember the mosquito repelent :-)
Cons: It will be even better when access to the lake is re-established.
Pros: The hotel as such is nice and the views are great to the nearby lake. The personnel is very friendly.
Cons: The information about the budget room by booking.com was not accurate enough, as it was not mentioned that there is no shower in the room facilities, a common shower would have been available in the lower level. Additionally there was no information that there is no window in the room. We were lucky to be able to change the room, however, against extra cost. Then after the price/quality ratio was not anymore reasonable. This concerns the smallest room only, and we were told that there will be no access to this tiny windowless room any more by booking.com.
Pros: Such a beautiful house with super quiet terrace and pretty lake but it was not allowed to enjoy any of these
Cons: We got fooled about the price, were promised discount but had to pay extra. . then we had to eat our orders in the cellar cause restaurant/terrace were not allowed(!?) very dissapointing after such a long trip(4:00 -> 21:00) We had to pay the rooms before seeing them and then were given one room under the stairs without a window where the air was very bad. Slept horrible and not suggesting this for overnights at all. Sorry
Pros: Very good price. Wonderful breakfast choices. Beds comfortable. Spacious enough but not large. Quiet. Restaurant good but with limited hours. It had what I needed for 3 nights to do birding in the area.
Cons: Shower didn’t work very well.
With a stay at Kruunupuisto Hotel in Savonlinna, you'll be on a lake, just steps from Punkaharju Ridge and a 4-minute drive from Lusto Finnish Forest Museum. Featured amenities include complimentary newspapers in the lobby, luggage storage, and laundry facilities. Free self parking is available onsite.
Pros: Beautiful nature all around
Cons: A mixture of a hotel and old people home, very strange
Pros: The rooms where decently decorated although we did ask to put the two single beds together they where wide apart. The local beer was quite nice. The staff was friendly and helpful although a tad over there head with our group
Cons: We where there for a funeral of a deer family member. The resort is at the same time a hotel and a sanatorium. The two where not separated enough, there where rooms in between doctors offices. The restaurant looks like stuck in a time wrap and is in dire need of a revamp. It has the distinct feel of an sanatorium canteen. All in all the place seems not really to have a real concept at what to be.
Cons: Breakfast was bad, very poor and bland.
Pros: Nice location, good spa facility
Cons: Poor buffet choice
Pros: Gorgeous and amazing nature around. An oasis of silence, tranquility and appeasement. Forests and lakes breathe pristine purity. Walking as always in Finland gives a feeling of unity with nature. Finnish people love their own nature and carefully look after it, keep it for themselves and their descendants. The room was clean, carefully prepared and fashioned in Finnish style. There is linoleum on the floor. Finnish windows protect from external noise, but there was a garbage collection point under the windows of our room. On Sunday morning, workers rattled trash bins. Perhaps this was the following up how the Finnish people treat guests from a neighboring country, that is, with special love! The bed was amazing and my wife and I enjoyed resting and good sleeping the whole night!
Cons: A receptionist was smiling during our check-in. I paid for the staying period in cash. Unfortunately SPA zone an centre were out of service and the receptionist did not mentioned about it during the check-in! Absurd! Glanced to the phone I have noticed I have not got a notification about SPA closing period for my staying dates at 9 a.m. at the same day on Saturday. I did not noticed it because I was driving at that time. It was impossible to assess the quality of the spa zone as it was closed exactly for the days of our staying at the hotel. It was clean inside and pleasant as so as usually in Finnish hotels, but the feeling that I overpaid a lot more than I saw and I got did not leave me for all period of time. There were no kettle in the room nor fridge! This kind of service is unacceptable. The price is much too high! However, this applies to all hotels in Finland. Breakfast was completely ordinary, the products were fresh, but nothing more. There was no variety. Bacon was crunchy like cookies. In my opinion there was a regime of austerity of the owners for the guests. My wife and I were totally upset the hospitality like this.
Pros: Room was very spacious and clean, with comfy armchairs, large tv, large desk, 2 night tables next to the bed and fridge. There were also wardrobes and many shelves for clothes. Beds were very comfortable. Nice view from the window to the forest. Heated floor in the bathroom. Swimming pool was opened from early afternoon till 20.30 and in the morning between 7.30 and 8.30. There were not many people in the pool when I visited it.
Cons: Breakfast was rather bad - hard, old bread as well as old rolls, meat balls that who knows what kind of journey made before ending up on the breakfast table. Not much choice of foods and no descriptions what food is served. In our room it seemed like one curtain was missing ( the other one could barely cover half of the window, and I needed to reinstall it twice, since it was not attached properly to the clamps) along with half door of shower cabin. Also one night-table lamp did not work, but we got another one when we asked. Our room was right above the swimming pool, so we had some bothering noise in the room till swimming pool's closing time, however we were offered to change the room.
Pros: Functional, clean rooms with ac. Location by the lake is beautiful, nice walk tours around Punkaharju. Lake side café is worth visit&dinner or waffels.
Cons: Breakfast was like going back to the 80ties, bad value for money.
Located on an island on Lake Saimaa, this property is 10 minutes' drive from Punkaharju and 30 minutes’ drive from Savonlinna. It offers free WiFi and great fishing opportunities just metres away. Each room at Villa Urhola, Kruunupuisto is bright and modern, some with a decorative fireplace and all with a flat-screen TV. The rooms come with private bathrooms and include a hairdryer. Guests have access to restaurant and spa facilities at an affiliated hotel just 400 metres from Villa Urhola. Guests can purchase massages, treatments and health courses at the spa. Swimming can be enjoyed in the lake, while walking and cross-country skiing trails can be found in the surrounding countryside. Punkaharju town centre is a 10-minute drive away.
Pros: Clean, beautiful building and quiet place to stay.
Cons: Dining and breakfast not so good.
Pros: Good place on the island inside the large lake. Very nice forest in all the directions. Good sauna, very nice rooms.
Cons: Food (breakfast and supper) are not so good. A lot of options, but everything is cooked not in a good way.
Pros: hotel staff
Cons: no comfortable
Pros: The peace
Cons: Label (with the name of a hotel) on it's roof is simply white without letters. It was very hard to find it. Nobody waited us in the evening on the reception. We took keys ourself. The room was for non-smokers (# 4), but the smell was like it was a smoking room in the past. Water in shower in the morning was very cold. The swimming pool is without water (does not work). Very simple hotel... looks like motel.
Cons: everything is out of date e.g. furniture and equipment -- the 70s come back! The swimming pool was out of order (without water)
Pros: we got a rather new appartment with 2 bedrooms instead of 2 hotel rooms.
