Nice surroundings and excellent food and breakfast. Dinner is recommended! We chose this hotel because of the swimmingpool facilities and because it is near Vezelay which is a must to visit.
Pleasant friendly and helpful staff,
State of the room does not live up to the advert, however the restaurant is pretty good.
The restaurant was superb - an absolute gastronomic treat, with a good local wine list. The bathroom (in particular the bath) was not as clean as it could have been!
Hotel was quiet and room very comfortable & clean. Nice pool & tennis courts and lovely grounds. Handy for Avallon Dinner and breakfast were very expensive and as a result, we didn't eat in
Excellent catering No tea or coffee facilities in the room
Huge room for European standards, with a tub which was a treat. It is right on the main road. We had an amazing dinner in the restaurant, but did not eat breakfast due to comments of it being expensive and only continental. Good hotel, and one I would recommend. No ketel in room was about the only complaint.
Direct access to the garden from the room. The swimming pool was fabulous, very clean, you can order drinks to be brought to the pool. Although next to a road it was very quiet and peaceful. Room was large and clean. Cleaning everyday was quick and efficient. Liked being able to park the car outside the room, lots to unload!! Staff very attentive whenever you wanted anything. Very overpriced, 5 euros for a cup of tea (no kettle in room) and it was served in a chipped teapot, cappuccino served in a brandy glass - too hot to pick it up to drink it - all a bit pretentious. 13.50 euros for a standard breakfast was too much, and flies on the cheese. Can't comment on restaurant as we didn't eat here, nothing on the menu appealed to us. The bath was an old enamel bath - not inviting at all and nowhere to place soap, shampoo etc when showering. Paintwork chipped, pictures on walls slipping in frames making the room look more tatty than it should have been. This hotel could justify the price if it just got some of the basics sorted.
Arrived very tired late at night with small children. Reception staff very welcoming, helpful and friendly. We had a garden room, which was like a little chalet opening out onto a large garden. Nice for the children. Thought breakfast was a bit pricey. For the children it cost 8.5 euros, and my son only ate half a croissant. However, it was convenient as we were straight back on the motorway very early and we were all fed.
Lots of excellent facilities easy to find First stay with Logis was hoping to stay in an old traditional hotel rather than a modern motel
Very little. Ground floor room lacked privacy; people walking around grounds frequently peered in. Room was damp, as were sheets on bed. No restaurant meant we had to eat elsewhere for dinner. A very creepy atmosphere. Dracula country!
peaceful location, charming chateau & hosts
Lovely chateau in beautiful French countryside run by welcoming hosts and owners of the chateau. Will appeal to those whol appreciate beauty and charm rather than those expecting room service and the bland conformity of 5 star hotels.
The ambiance and surroundings
clean room and bathroom view of the roof, coudn't open the window
The hotel and the rooms are quite large and very well equipped. Pontaubert is very small: no shops, bars,...
Everything was simple and easy. The hotel staff was very pleasant. It met our criteria for nice hotel - near of cities (Avallon, Veselay), near of countryside, clean room, big space for baggage, etc.
Staff very helpful & extemely nice. Felt very welcome in a homely atmosphere. No problems.
No Elevator. No one to check us in upon arrival.
Friendly, clean, and comfortable. Adequate parking.
good atmosphere and can see that the new owners are trying to pick it up. room price good value still a little dated decor - breakfast very expensive for range of food - restaurant good but have had better for the price - have also eaten further down the high road to compare
Good location and value for money. Not overly welcoming. Lack of staff at breakfast meant that buffet was not replenished efficiently.
The hote room was very comfortable and quiet. The free wifi was appreciated. We also enjoyed the breakfast in the dining room. The hotel provided good value for money.
Friendly, helpful staff. Internet access at no charge. Quiet. Restaurant closed on Sunday, so I had to drive to the Campanile for dinner.
This was an overnight stop. The cleanliness was first rate and the menu and food were very good value for money
A convinient stop over for driving down to the South of France. It was clean and comfortable.
Easy to find and plenty of parking. Room was basic but very comfortable. I'd stay here again.
On the parkside it was quiet. It was shabby, needed updating and the breakfast room was very cold.
The hotel provided a perfect overnight stop off for a trip from the south to the north. The 11am check out was too early for my needs
In a very nice village dated but good value for money and very clean very old fashioned in need of a re-furb
The hotel is conveniently situated near the autoroute in an attractive town and the staff were pleasant and friendly The hotel appeared to be quite rundown and in our opinion required major refurbishment. The decor and furniture was old fsahioned and shabby, and even the electrical wiring seemed unreliable. We were in a family room which was dingy and dark, with beds laid out like a dormitory. The beds were not comfortable.
Nothing in particular, it was adequate Room should have tea / coffee making facilities
comodity of the room;elevator tv...not enough channels with music, movies and even the french ones very few. (in English only BBC news). Noise...one evening a group of young locals made a lot of noise in the garden of the hotel; after our complaint, the other nights were VERY quiet
Comfortable and surprisingly quiet hotel at the edge of the main city. Breakfast was good but no restaurant, although there is a good restaurant only a few meters away.
The hotel was fine - for me, just somewhere to stay for a night near the autoroute - but what I really liked was the staff - they noted I was a woman travelling alone, and they gave me an upstairs room at the end of the hallway so no one would disturb me (there was a large group of men staying there at the same time.) I thought that was extremely thoughtful.
The location, at the city downtown. Ideal for 1 nigh stay. The cleaning of the room was not good.
Pleasant, helpful reception.
Convenient as midway point for journey to and from holiday. Family room availability. Lovely swimming pool and sun terrace. No
friendly staff, close to auto route and within walking distanceof restaraunts possible to have breakfast but not evening meal
Excellent welcome - lovely traditional hotel - superb dinner - good location near the autoroute and main roads.
great restaurant, nice family rooms (though doubles/twins are pretty simple), nice bathrooms, overall, very good quality for 2*. Anyway, the main thing is the restaurant, highly recommended. almost non-existent wifi, the signal is very weak
Lovely warm hotel with friendly staff. Clean and quite rooms. Excellent value for money No
Simple, but having everything what is important. Fitted our expectations.
The service was excellent, the staff helpful and the restaurant very good. There is a nice ambience about the hotel and its location very handy for train travellers. Flexible shower rose clamp was faulty; a minor problem.
Pleasant restaurant Gate to car park was not closed, as had been promised
Excellent restaurant, we arrived New Years day and were pleased that the restuarant was open. The choice of food was very good and the food was excellent. The staff were very friendly. Only thing I could fault was the shower head was a bit wobbly.
Good value small hotel, located in a quiet street within easy walking distance of the historic centre of Avallon. The restaurant was excellent - very good food at reasonable prices. Overall, a pleasant low-cost hotel, providing you accept that it isn't luxury. By today's standards the double bed was small and with a pronounced depression in the middle of the mattress. The room furnishings and fittings were basic but adequate. The spiral stone staircase (no elevator) to our 2nd floor room was OK but might prove difficult for people with access problems.
Close to Avallons attractions and has free parking on site No wardrobe for clothes
This is a delightful hotel with plenty of Gallic charm. It has an interesting butterfly theme which is a bonus. Avallon is a pretty town just off the Autoroute so the hotel was ideal for a stopover from the Alps. The bathrooms were magnificent. The rooms were spacious and clean. The reception was efficient and spoke good English. He was however somewhat morose and inaccurate with his advice.
A very comfortable old fashioned hotel with a great breakfast. The staff were very friendly. Avallon was very quiet and not a great location for a stopover in the Morven region
charmm restaurant closed and bed not very comfortable
It's an hotel with a lot of character and makes a welcome change from those same multi-nationals you see too often. The restaurant is very good with a fine selection. The hotel staff are very helpful and English is widely spoken. Accomodation is clean and fresh. A very pleasant stay. Connections to internet difficult, phone line only, maybe however that was a blessing.
Avallon is a lovely small town with a lot of history and a convenient stopover en route to South of France or Italy from uk. The hotel is part of that history and atmospheric. This was our second stay in 5 years, and it seemed a little tired this time but still worth a visit. The room and bathroom were large and the bed comfortable. The receptionists were charming. Parking at the back of the hotel is good, but we'd recommend dropping off luggage at front first! WiFi Chargeable.
We were veery dissapointed in the restaurant as we had heard good reports about this place. the service was good but the food was tasteless. we had a suite and the room was tired and soleless
Well located with convenient parking. The charm of the room (history). Nice personnel. We were in a 4 person room but only one double bed and a terribly unconfortable sofa. The maintenance of the roon was poor. Breakfast was very limited despite the price.
The quantness of the furnishings It was a little cold but that is all
A great place to stop, great food, clean room (suite) handy to lots of interesting places. also excellent parking
The staff were v nice. Good atmosphere. The room was too hot and could not be cooled. The bed was hard. Restaurant food was tough and/or nearly off (fish)
The restaurant was fantastic, worth the 4*. The room was tired, carpet very dirty, bed too small and uncomfortable. Definitely not a 4* hotel. Eat at the restaurant, stay somewhere else!
excellent food, wonderful garden,
Wonderful accomodations and furnishings. Dinner very good but overpriced
The hotel felt luxurious throughout and despite being by a busy road in a town, it was quiet and relaxing. The food looked superb, but there was not really a menu option that allowed for a less expensive, lighter evening meal.
Beautiful hotel garden, excellent staff and facilities
View of garden was beautiful. Room was very inviting. Food was exceptional.
The hotel is beautiful, the village it is in is nothing special but inside the hotel is like an oasis. Very secure parking (private garage), fantastic rooms - we were given a free upgrade because we were on honeymoon which was very nice. Hotel rooms are gorgeous - very French shabby chic. It is very expensive. One night's accommodation, with a snakc plus wine during the day and a meal in the restaurant on the evening - came to 705 euros - however it is a luxury hotel - so to be expected. We were seated alone in a separate restaurant - until we asked to be moved into the main restaurant - as it had no atmosphere.
their facilities and service were very nice, and its price shows how good it is. I don't complain about the bill, but it was very costly. Everything is beautiful and made me satisfied.
The hotel staff were excellent, very friendly and helpful. The spa was extremely nice and the gardens were beautiful. Of course the hotel also has its famous restaurant Bernard Loiseau as well, though we didn't eat there. We thought the cold breakfast was very expensive. The rooms were nice in a rustic sort of way, but they could upgrade the bedspreads/curtains to something less reminiscent of a chain hotel. The village of Saulieu was not as nice as we expected - walking around at night there were unsavory characters drinking in the parking lots nearby the hotel. However, overall the hotel itself was nice and if I were in Saulieu again, I would stay there again.
The style of the hotel was excellent being charged 100 € for a plate of cheese, ham and bread. Without being told the price prior to the meal
- wonderful restaurant and impressive wine list - reality as good as reputation - the friendliness and informality of the staff - excellent overall service - nice attention to detail to make guests feel especially welcome - attractive, peaceful gardens - elegant, understated decor and furnishings
The staff was welcoming and made us feel special. The grounds were beautiful, and we enjoyed the wonderful fresh food from your garden, prepared expertly. The dogs, geese and ducks and the entire setting took us back in time and we felt pampered. We were in France for almost three weeks, had 7 hotel and chateau stays and this was one of our very best experiences. Our two dinners were better than the three star Michelin restaurant we went to in Paris (and a far better value.) Our room decor was not quite as charning as the public rooms but it was large, quiet and very comfortable.
The smooth excellent service, the delightful ambiance, the well appointed comfortable room, the superb dinner.
It's nice hotel, very friendly
The staff were very friendly, particulary Sam. The food was fantastic quality. The grounds were lovely. Hated the decor. We were originally put in a Deluxe Room "Noyers", the decor was hideous. We then moved to a "Suite" called "Irancy" - even more hideous. The pictures were crooked, as were the lights. The wallpaper was this disgusting gold, furthermore the doors were wall papered over to give the illusion they were not there - who does that!! The rooms are in serious need of renovation. Also, the claim to be "child friendly" hotel. We went with our 16 month year old daughter, and I had to watch her every minute in case the roaming dogs and/or birds attacked her. It was not relaxing at all. Additionally we were paying top dollar for this hotel room, and I can honestly say it is the ugliest room I have stayed in. a total rip off !!!!!!!!!!!!!
It was enchanting!!! The place was a beatiful castle, the food was exelent. I didn´t wanted to leave. We had a great memory of that stay. no
Relaxed family mansion feeling with excellant food and pleasent attentive service. Historical surroudings with an extent of self sufficient gourmet food production in a delightful country location. No complaints
Fantastic location Very expensive, restaurant astronomically expensive, food was good quality but pretentious. Room decor dated and bathroom smelt of damp.
the chateau itself, the rooms, the restuarant, the fireplace in the restaurant, the food and the staff... so pretty much everything was good. but all this put together, plus the birds, the sheep, the vegetables garden, and of course those ancient walls create a great ambiences (something like travelling back in time).
Ability to wander freely around the grounds; the bed was absolutely magnificent; the food was some of the best we've had in years. There is a rooster! Fair warning. The pillows could use to be a little softer, too. That being said, we still slept very well.
Excellent service, grounds, and dining by the fireside.
