9.5 Excellent
Pros: Charming host. Fantastic property.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Logis de la Helberdière was just perfect. We had a wonderful welcome. The owner does not live there and it was our "castle" for one night! Breakfast was great. Good quality coffee, fresh croissants from the backery, home made jam. Beautiful well kept gardens to have a stroll, before or after breakfast, depending when you wake up ;-). Honestly we rarely felt pampered in such a way before.
Cons: Nothing! Only to mention that In late autumn or in winter the rooms/stone floors can be chilly. But be aware that Logis de la Helberdière is a former castle.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: What a stunning house - complete seclusion, peace and privacy, alone amongst centuries of history at every turn. Brilliant hospitality with real personality and top notch breakfast of great croissants and homemade jams. We also saw the soon to be completed turret room which looks set to offer another level of accommodation... unique.. we will certainly be back.

Pros: The building and host
Cons: Quite difficult to find
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We stayed in the Tower and loved everything. The bed was so comfy and we had the best sleep. The location rural and quiet. The tower redesigned to a great standard and perfect for a relaxing, romantic break. The breakfast perfect and the owner so friendly. We have travelled a lot and this is one of the best places we have ever stayed at because of all the reasons stated. The Mayenne is a lovely area and we wouldn't think of staying anywhere else and have already planned a return visit.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: This is a great little hotel and this is my fourth stay over 5 years with no change in the excellent level of service, cleanliness and value for money. The proprietess is very nice and determined that her guests should be well looked after. Breakfast is very good. I stayed 3 nights and enjoyed cycling the Sarthe Velo routes.
Cons: Nothing
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very quiet room, spacious and airy. Wonderful breakfast.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: When you arrive in the hamlet and park across the church you wonder what you'd expect. Once entering inside you encounter a charming host and a wow-effect when visiting the rooms. We were a party of five to stay for 1 night. We reserved one family room (in the garden house) and one 2-person bedroom (which was in the main building). Both rooms were very nicely decorated with attention to detail. More important - the mattress and pillows were very good! - this is something personal but in our experience this part often receives much lower scores at other locations. The WiFi was perfect and complementary. The buffet breakfast was gorgeous - lots of choices: coffee, tea, warm milk, cold milk, orange juice, fresh fruits, yoghurts, bread, pastries, cheese, ham.... In short - this was a very, very good stay for us and we recommend this gem to others.
Cons: We arrived on a Sunday evening - not a lot of restaurants are open in the vicinity that day. No fault of the hotel - Just you know that you may have to drive to the nearest city for a chain restaurant that opens on Sundays
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast was good and there is an excellent and very reasonably priced restaurant just next door for dinner.
Cons: Had to ask for a hair dryer
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The breakfast was wonderful, and the location good, just a short distance to join the motorway.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Clean, charming in a tiny quaint town. We had a very good dinner next store in one of 3 business in town. A 7th century church was across the street from the hotel and the bells rang 100x early in the morning. It made me laugh.
Cons: The room was a little cramped. Breakfast was 9 euros each and was OK.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Well designed and very functional family room. Fantastic host who runs the hotel by herself. Very clean. Exceptional value for money
Cons: Wi-Fi didn’t work
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Our room was in the rear converted stable annexe. It was enormous, extremely comfortable and very well presented. Breakfast was typically French continental and was correct for variety, quantity and price. Dinner was served in the adjacent restaurant, not owned/run by the hotel. The selection was limited but perfectly acceptable and very straightforward. The food was well presented and tasted good. You are advised to make it clear that you wish to eat, otherwise it may be closed

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Simply perfect! We received a warm welcome, complete with refreshing home made apple juice, from Catherine, who was an exceptional hostess. The location of the property is simply stunning and the quality and cleanliness of the rooms cannot be faulted. Catherine was able to recommend some excellent places to eat, and I would be happy to endorse those recommendations. Breakfast was wonderful with a selection of croisant, bread, and home made cakes and jams, fruit etc. Did I mention the apple juice? Try it, it's wonderful. Although we only stayed initially for one night, we enjoyed our stay so much we booked another night on our return journey. On our second stay the breakfast changed to include home made crepes, which were gain wonderful.
Cons: Nothing.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very friendly and helpful hosts. Comfortable room and a modern well equipped bathroom. Host provided a good continental breakfast.
Cons: For cycle tourists bicycles are stored outside overnight but under cover. The accommodation is in a rural location so little chance of theft but something to lock bicycles to would provide extra reassurance.

Cons: There's nothing, not to like

9.3 Excellent
Pros: Very scenic town The House has been beautifully modernized with a lot of the old features included in the structure Our lovely room was in one of the towers The breakfast was excellent
9.3 Excellent
Pros: We stayed at the Manoir de la Grand’Cour for one night on our way from Paris to Saint Malo, and it was a very pleasant experience. Monique, one of the owners, contacted us via email a couple of days before our stay to give us instructions on how to enter our rooms since we would check in very late, and to know at what time we would like to have breakfast the following morning. Everything was explained very clearly and we had no trouble at all entering. The property is very beautiful, dating back to the 17th century. You enter a beautiful tower and climb a spiral staircase to reach the rooms on the first floor. Rooms and bathrooms are newly renovated, very well appointed and super clean and have all the comforts. We were a party of 5 and booked all 3 rooms, there was plenty of space and all the rooms can be connected so this is also a great place to stay for a family with young children, as there is also a small playground in the gated backyard. The following morning we had an excellent and abundant breakfast (croissants, pain au chocolate, fresh baguette, homemade yogurt and fruit jam, fresh fruit, orange juice/coffee/tea/hot chocolate etc …) sitting at the big wooden kitchen table, in the very cozy e bright kitchen/living room downstairs. Our experience was completely positive. The Manoir is beautiful and very charming and Monique has been a wonderfully welcoming host, we hope we will have the chance to go back in the future.

Pros: The welcome and ambience were superb. This made for a memorable stay in this house full of rustic charm (and some modern charm too). A Chambre d'Hote full of character - one of the best we have stayed in.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: A wonderful building loving restored by the owners, you feel like you are staying in a temporary home not a B&B. Very spacious rooms, extremely clean. Breakfast is truly excellent with different hot options each day with traditional fresh French pastries. The owner Marie was extraordinarily helpful despite our terrible French (her English is perfect). Wonderful location!
Cons: Nothing, it was perfect.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Clean, comfortable and very well looked after. Ideal for families. The hosts are extremely friendly and helpful.
Cons: We had no issues with the property. However, it is worth knowing that the nearest restaurants are about 15 minutes drive. There is a bar in the village though.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Staying in an interesting old property off the beaten track. Friendly host. Lots of space to sit & relax. Close to path by river so we had a pleasant walk and enjoyed a simple supper at the small restaurant near the campsite. Excellent continental style breakfast served by Anne in the kitchen:juice, yoghurt and several fruit preserves all homemade were delicious.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: A beautiful house in a quaint town. The loft room was so spacious for our family and it was very comfortable, so cosy that I just wanted to stay there and enjoy the homey feel upon checkin. Kids enjoyed the home cinema entertainment. Outside the garden was a great space for my daughter to explore with the river a great place to go for a quiet walk and enjoy the atmosphere. My only regret is not staying here longer, I only had one day. Breakfast was really nice and it felt like an old style B&B with the owner catering for us personally. Owner spoke excellent English but was patient to entertain listening to our efforts at French too.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very friendly owners and beautifully appointed - we had a billiard table in our suite and toys and books appropriate for children which was ablovely touch! Roaring fire with breakfast and beautifully flaky croissants, pain au chocolat and fresh bread with home-made conserves - delish! A charming place to stay, we will be back!

Pros: We stayed at the chateau for two nights in order to attend a ukulele festival at nearby St Denis D'Anjou. The owner was most accommodating allowing us to check in early so we didn't miss any of the festival. The chateau was in a beautiful location and the facilities were excellent. The chance to make tea or coffee was much appreciated as was the owners thoughtful provision of a jug of milk to make a cup of tea ! The owner spoke some English and was most welcoming. Merci Michel pour un sejour tres agreable!
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Atmosphere. Host explained and provided map to get to a local restaurant as well refuelling motorcycle. Very friendly to bikers with safe and secure parking. Breakfast very good.
Cons: Nothing of significance.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The location is fantastic. The hosts are more than accommodating in every aspect. There is a welcoming smile for you with a little history of the place from the owners. The ambience and decor of the place makes you feel almost like french aristocracy. They let you play the antique grand piano but only if you can play. There are lots of antiques and curios everywhere that make you feel like your staying in a period drama from the early 19th century. Like you've gone back in time. Like staying in a french museum for chateau life that is absolutely brimming from wall to wall with something to catch your attention and stir an emotion. Nothing is locked away in a glass cabinet so you can touch everything too. But only if you respect it. The bedrooms are lovely, comfortable and clean. Very romantic. Theres a pool too which isn't like something you'd get in a 5 star Mauritius beach hotel but it's more than good enough. You are provided with your own breakfast room all laid out in regal style which again, you feel like your in Downton abbey. Your also given your own basket with all the picnic items you'll need. All in all, the best place we have ever stayed for welcome, comfort, quiet, peace and ambience. The only modern thing here is the wifi, so if you crave snacks, tv, a bar and entertainment then forget it. Go elsewhere and I'll go here.
Cons: There is nothing not to like. If your fussy about there being snacks available or a tv then you'll be disappointed. But that's your problem not theirs.

Pros: Liked everything
Cons: Nothing
6.3 Good
Pros: Spacious comfortable chateau. Quiet location. Owner v affable and attentive when around.
Cons: More like being a house guest than staying in a fully serviced hotel. If there was dinner there was no choice. Average quality and over priced. Beds/towels changed daily. Room v comfortable but never given a key so couldn’t lock it. Drinks available but helped yourself and made a note in a book. Shower in our room was unsuitable for anyone with mobility issues - v high step to get over. Toilet in ridiculously small cubicle. We joked you had to back into it. Not easy to find. In the middle of nowhere with poor signposting. V overpriced compared to similar properties we stayed at on the same holiday.

Pros: A fascinating old chateau. Large room and very helpful owner.
Cons: We had dinner at the chateau one night and, while the dinner was nice and it was great not having to drive “home”, it ende up being quite expensive taking into account the price of the wine and water.

8.3 Excellent
Pros: Authentic castle, with an atmospheric feeling. Very warm welcome by a bunch of youngsters. Comfortable room, at least twice as big as a classic branch hotel room.
Cons: Sorry to all these nice people, but I have to say this: the “table d’hôte” didn’t live up to its expectations. I choosed this accomodation because of mentionings of the lady of the houses cooking skills, but she was not at home ☹️
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Lovely hosts, exceptional breakfast & dinner & beautiful location
5.0 Okay
Pros: Grounds are delightful and area is quiet and pastoral. Hosts are welcoming, pleasant and interesting. Dinner was delicous, however not on usual France hotel cuisine standard.
Cons: Room uncomfortable and extremely cold at night. Shower difficult to enter/exit and inadequate shower soap and shampoo. Breakfast very basic. No key or lock on room. Lobby under renovation and no where to sit in room or out. Was promised fresh bread that didn't arrive and not offered eggs on second day. Left after two days and returned with partner to a civilised hotel, but left the hosts a present of 170euro for not staying the third night. Worst hotel value for money I ever encountered and I do travel a lot.

Visit chapelle du nid and chemin d'abbaye, and belle Vue especially. decor is beautiful and sumptuous with gold and red everywhere. Rooms are huge and all had private balcony outside, mines also had two ensuites - separate toilet room and bathroom room. In the room there is a lot of storage. Rooms were heated to a good warm temperature of around 23 degrees. Many plug sockets, very clean, room had well stocked soft drink and spirit minibar. Room keyrings are shaped like the pipe organ at St Peters monastery opposite. The restaurant was very sumptuously decorated and quite high end (bring smart clothes for dinner). The dinner menu was gourmet French style with things like canard fois gras. you can have room service from the same menu without being charged the British "tray charge". However I am vegetarian and the only thing on the menu I could eat was dessert. They offered to make me something special but I didn't bother. I highly advise bringing your own food or going out if you are vegan or vegetarian (this is actually for the whole locality) The breakfast was Amazing and worth 14 euro. It is a continental buffet wide selection of hot and cold drinks and juices and Real coffee.orange is freshly squeeze with bits in it. Wide selection of pastries croissants jams Nutella cakes yoghurts meats and cheeses and cereals. Easy to get a table for breakfast as not crowded. The hours of breakfast 7am up to 11am which is very flexible. Staff were amazing. They all spoke English and were very helpful and keen to make your stay great even offered me a lift in car The gym is a converted hotel room which you book out so it's for you alone.
Cons: The location is perfect for visiting the two monasteries. But it is half hour walk to the shop or any outside restaurant (there is a small quiet e bar/alcohol shop nearby) and an hour walk to train station. So bring a car. There is some nice walks but not a whole lot going on here. So it wouldn't be a good place for a youngsters party holiday. Everything in the area closes on Sunday and it is very hard to get any taxi and the hotel restaurant is also closed Sunday night. therefore book your Sunday taxis a week in advance and include taxis to any restaurant or shop for food on Sunday. There are only three taxis in the area - philver, Saboliens and besoin - some work with more than one firm. Book in advance for all journeys and they do not have websites or speak English therefore you will have to call them and book on the phone in French h. Sncf taxis, mytaxi, i taxi, and allotaxi app, Mon transport all do not serve this area. However the hotel is able to book you taxis while you are staying The jacuzzi in the gym was too cold with no way to change temperature For the brits - there is no kettle or hot drinks facility in the room or elsewhere, you will have to order tea in room service at 5 euro. The monastery bells chime extremely loudly and it is hard to sleep though it. I liked this but others may not. There were no vegetarian options on the restaurant dinner menu or room service so vegetarians book cab for dinner or bring your own. WiFi was not that good, slow and often cutting out and reloading but it was free so that's good. And necessary since phone signal round here is variable

Pros: Hospitality & restaurant.
Cons: We used satnav to locate hotel, but made the mistake of only putting in the post code and road name. The satnav took us to Sable sur Sarthe which also has the same post code and road of the same name whereas the hotel is in Solesmes a small town a few kilometres away.

7.0 Good
Pros: The location was great and close to a small village with a great restaurant (La Taverne). The chateaux itself is a lovely looking property which has been in the family for generations apparently. The public rooms are furnished with antiques and give an authentic experience.
Cons: The bedding looked like it had seen better days and the towels were hard and worn. The toiletries on offer were mostly empty, no soap provided other than a couple of little sachets of shower gel. Thankfully I didn't need to use any as I had brought my own! The bath was child size in the room I stayed in.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The owner of this beautiful rural castle was very welcoming, offering us an excursion in the castle and the surroundings. He prepared an excellent three-course dinner by himself and adjusted the breakfast time for us. In the morning, we saw lots of different animals (deer, peasants, blackbirds) in the forest nearby.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Lovely chateau! Very authentic. Expect creaking floorboards and lots of antiques. Had a lovely time.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The property is a fabulous small chateaux set in beautiful grounds with the bonus of a pool. The host was very welcoming and helpful,Inc booking a creperie in the village which was also superb,he gave us a drink after we returned from dinner, this we enjoyed sat in front of the chateaux The breakfast was set in a lovely dining room, the ambience of the whole building made us feel special,we would like to return and explore the area
10.0 Excellent
Pros: I didn't think this was going to be an impressive place but although it doesn't look grand, it has a lot of character and the land area of the property is very extensive, and includes other homes.
Cons: The long private road into the property has far too many potholes, so take it very carefully.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: A unique experience, somewhat surreal, and certainly memorable. Follow the eccentric yet warmhearted directions provided by Louis (and expect your car to look like it's been on safari) and you won't get lost. The chateau, more like a manor house, is a family home full of memories and memorabilia. Bit like a time warp. It was over 30 degrees so good to have a pool.. Breakfast was included which is unusual in France, but then you couldn't just pop into town for a coffee and croissant....some have said they thought it shabby. But what do you expect? It is an old house that has seen life, rather like the owner! The photos are far more manicured than it actually is.
Cons: Make contingency plans for dinner. Nearest town is Daon, where the one restaurant on the Mayenne River was fully booked. But we had brought supplies from supermarket earlier, so had a picnic in the grounds of the chateau.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: The property and the host were a welcome surprise and although the property was showing its age is places the overall ambiance was amazing, the host was a delight and extremely accommodating. We will be returning.
Cons: The breakfast was very minimal and lacked options.
