9.3 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful, updated, large rooms and nice amenities.
Cons: The TV shut down every 2 minutes and needed restarting. The settings were locked so it could not be fixed. The city of Chalon was deceiving and filled with dog feces and smelled horrible throughout the city.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Quaint in a lovely location.
Cons: The toilet was just a cupboard in the bedroom. Not what you’d expect for 4 star.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great location and air con in room Staff where super helpful and really nice. Fantastic restaurants in town too
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Staff very friendly and helpful. We also enjoyed the breakfast.
Cons: There are no drawers in the room which is ok if staying for one night but makes it a bit difficult if staying for longer.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The hotel is beautifully maintained and spotlessly clean. The location is very good, quiet yet just a few minutes walk to the centre. The nicest part was the staff, they were all friendly, welcoming and very helpful. Thank you for a lovely stay!
8.8 Excellent
Cons: A bar would be nice in the evening
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Good location very nice decor
Cons: I have stayed here many times but have to say the price is getting very expensive for what it is
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Good secure parking (pre-book) with a space labelled on arrival. Two friendly and helpful ladies on reception. They proposed a restaurant for dinner, different from the one I had identified and their recommendation proved good. The room was clean and what I expected. Breakfast was good. It turned out to be a good pick as a stop-over and we got on our way in the morning relaxed and refreshed.
Cons: Nothing to report.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything! The staff were pleasant, helpful and friendly.
Cons: Decaf coffee at breakfast would have been nice.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: We were within a short walk from the centre of town. Parking is a big issue so the fact we did not use our car for two days was a big bonus, we paid extra for reserved parking at the hotel which was worth every penny. Lots of restaurants in town with good food. There was lift which is not always available in a relatively small boutique type of hotel. Would be happy to return
Cons: Limited bar facilities on site

Pros: A beautiful bed and breakfast boutique property . Stunning rooms, beautifully designed and a lovely garden and swimming pool. We were given a recommendation for a local restaurant the first evening which was kindly booked for us and the food was superb. Breakfast excellent and nothing to be faulted.

9.3 Excellent
Pros: The breakfast was lovely, great choice, lots of it.
Cons: The parking is difficult, you either have to reverse in or out along the entry road.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: What a lovely place - so clean, peaceful and comfortable, we had a lovely stay at Le Mas Champenois. Brigitte is the perfect hostess, making us so welcome whilst also giving us our own space. She was also very patient with my limited French, and I cannot imagine anything would have been too much trouble. We were attending a wedding nearby and Brigitte was happy to help with taxi arrangements etc - much appreciated by us.
Cons: Nothing, we had a lovely time.
7.0 Good
Pros: A very nice property.Pleasant swimming pool and sun bathing area.House was very nicely appointed and bedroom good. Breakfast was very good and we were able to have our own food in the evening and not have to go out to eat.
Cons: Property was not easy to find and was down a narrow street with parking on both sides. You had to back out down the street. Could not get into the property until 5.30 which we had not realised so got little time to make use of the pool, etc
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The bedroom was lovely with a nice view of the garden and pool. The breakfast was very nice.
Cons: The man who greeted us when we arrived too early could have been nicer. He just held up 5 fingers and said 'cinq' and when we tried to ask him if we could leave the car and walk into town he did the same. Not very pleasant! When we returned after 'cinq' he was very welcoming.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The whole property is equipped and furnished to a very high standard. Brigitte is an absolutely charming lady and extremely helpful.
Cons: Nothing

10.0 Excellent
Pros: The cafe, restaurant and the room were wonderful. The owner and staff were really quite amazing. La Maison De Marie Caroline is a real find. I honestly did not want to leave. This was at the end of a long three weeks bike tour of Europe and was a true breath of fresh air. Chalons en Champagne is a really nice town with a good mix of sites and restaurants.
Cons: Having to leave
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Location. Great for restaurants and shops.
Cons: Being woken up at 7am by roadworks outside.
10.0 Excellent

Cons: All excellent
10.0 Excellent
Pros: This little hotel was perfect!
Cons: Nothing
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The Maison is located very centrally to the town, everything is in easy walking distance. We would have had dinner in the Maison's restaurant, but it only operates at weekends - however, there was an abundance of alternatives. We chose one of the restaurants recommended (for regional cuisine) by the host and we were not disappointed. The host also described a good route of our early morning run - through the nearby park, via a wide boulevard to a alongside track. The covered market (a short walk away) was exceptional. Not only was all the produce (fruit, vegetables, fish, meat) fresh and enticing, but it was displayed with real pride.
Cons: It was advertised as 'nearby free parking' but it's only free 7.00pm-9.00am (ie overnight). That said, the parking was very nearby, not difficult to find (with sat nav) and cheap.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Location was great. Continental breakfast was nice.
Cons: Room was a bit small.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Lovely restaurant and hotel with vegetarian food options.

9.3 Excellent
Pros: Owner managed - very personal attention. Large patio, kitchen, dining, lounge, games room area. Off-street parking. Good recommendations from hostess for dining and activities.
Cons: Limited continental breakfast selection - cheese would have been an added bonus.
4.5 Okay
Pros: Not much to appreciate!
Cons: Nearly everthing
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Large room, comfortable bed. Good value for money. The place has rustic charm and the owner was really friendly and helpful. Breakfast was fine for us as we don’t eat a great deal, plenty of bread, croissants and home made jam. Freshly made coffee. Possibility to help yourself to drinks, honesty box. Secure parking, easy walk to local restaurant, which was ok but a bit pricey for an overdone piece of pork and mash.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The host was charming and made great efforts to ensure our stay was comfortable. We arrived very late and needed early breakfast the next morning and all our needs were accommodated. One of our children spilled hot chocolate all over the lovely dining area (table, chair, carpet and sibling!) and they couldn't have been more understanding and helpful. The room was clean and comfortable and the area looked lovely - if we had had time for a walk, we would have definitely gone exploring. It is a little way off the main highway, but that added to the peace and quiet. If we are passing that way in future, we will definitely book again.
Cons: The only slight challenge was that I hadn't realised we would need to pay cash until the day we were leaving, which meant a bit of a rush around to make sure we had enough Euros.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Accommodation really good. Plenty of room both in house and garden. Proprietor very pleasant and welcoming. Enjoyed relaxing in the large garden. Would be great for families with children given the amount of space. Secure parking a bonus.
Cons: Nothing.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Spacious, very secure parking. I was the only guest so had the house to myself which was very nice. Host very friendly and helpful.
Cons: All was good.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Very friendly welcome, comfortable lovely location.
7.5 Good
Pros: Charming place with a big garden!
Cons: No resturants in the village, the only pizzeria tjat was open did not have time for us they said. So better eat in Chalon en chp.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Melania was very friendly.
Cons: It was all fine.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The owner was lovely and helpful. The room in a charming old building was spacious and really tastefully decorated and the garden gave a really nice atmosphere. There was a kitchen facility which we would I'm sure use if staying again, as the local restaurant was a pizzeria and, while very good, pizza is not my favourite. Breakfast was lovely with great fresh bread, croissants, preserves etc. Highly recommended.
Cons: A good restaurant that offers something other than pizza within walking distance would have been great but that's being really picky! It was a great place.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Excellent value. Nice apartment for a family. Friendly and helpful hosts
7.5 Good
Pros: It was a self-contained apartment with kitchenette (breakfast not included), which had recently been renovated. It was within easy walking distance of the park and the centre of the town.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Proximity to the town. Fact that having a teenage son we could have separate areas in the flat. Price.
Cons: We tried to call but the phone number didn't seem to work. So when we got there we didn't know how to get in or if the hosts were there. We didn't know it was their hosue. Then we couldn't find the door bell. Would have been great for them to tell us that the door bell is in the hedge. But that was all - just a worry before we arrived. The rest was perfect.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Host family was lovely. Location was convenient and property was easy to access.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Very friendly hosts, everything one needs in terms of facilities and perfect location.
Cons: All was fine except that being a cellar it was a little cool.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Spacious, clean and modern flat with fridge and kitchen.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Loved the room and the ease of finding it and good access on and off the motorway. An excellent choice for an overnight stop enroute to the alps.
Cons: Nothing to dislike...all excellent
10.0 Excellent
Pros: After an easy and warm welcome we went just a couple of minutes to the ancient part of the city. Our way led through a very nice park with art installations. A culturally interesting and lively little city.
7.5 Good
Pros: The landlady is quite hospitable and helpful. The chateau itself and a garden around is very athmospheric and romantic.
Cons: The transparent bath cabin located directly in the bedroom was a bit strange and uncomfortable solution
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great room and value. If you are going to be in this area you should stay here.

Cons: Other guests sitting and talking loudly in the courtyard that looks out onto the rooms when some of us were trying to get to sleep...
7.5 Good
Pros: The food
Cons: The prices of the winelist was a bit overrated
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The room was exceptionally clean but little character. It suited us for a quick stop on the way down to the South of France
Cons: Nothing specifically, it would not be a place to spend more than a night.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Convenient and easy to find. Good restaurant, efficient service.
Cons: Nothing
5.0 Okay
Cons: The food
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We've used this hotel as a stopover for a few years and it gets better - particularly this year. The Le Relais annexe is beautifully restored and as it is separate from the main hotel, the breakfast there is a much nicer experience [this was the only negative feature of our earlier stays]. The dinner menus and quality of food and cuisine/presentation is excellent and the staff are, as always, welcoming, helpful and efficient.
Cons: From previous stays, breakfast in the main hotel is a bit chaotic - the servery area is cramped and thus crowded, and really needs redesigning. Breakfast itself is entirely satisfactory, varied and plentiful.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Amazing, clean and great value!
Cons: ...
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Lovely hotel, ideal for our overnight stay.
Cons: Nothing
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Convenience of location for an overnight stay.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: All Staff were very friendly, welcoming and helpful. We used the private parking facility which was worth the extra €5. The room was spacious and beautifully decorated. The bed and pillows were so comfortable it was a great night's sleep. The Bathroom is very large with jacuzzi bath. There was a well stocked mini fridge as well as a coffee making machine. The safe was a generous size making safe storage easier for our valuables. We had dinner in the bistro and the food was superb. The duck was delicious beyond words. After dinner the chef came and said hello to guests and asked if we enjoyed our meal. We complimented him on his excellent skills. He was so friendly and humble. All waiting staff were brilliant with their attentiveness and attention to detail. Breakfast was also excellent with a selection of eggs, meats, cheese, croissants, cereals, fruit and juice. Coffee was great and we felt well fed and ready for our journey.
Cons: A small attention to detail that needs to be addressed at breakfast......the meats were not covered and it wasn't long before a fly or two became attracted to it which was a turn off. Such a shame as the cheeses and yogurts were protected under cover so perhaps just one more cover for the meat would complete the presentation.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We arrived to be greeted by charming, English speaking staff and were quickly installed in our rooms. We had a delicious dinner in the Brasserie restaurant which also did an amazing meal for our children.
Cons: Motjkng

Pros: Convenient for a stay en route to Alps or home. Gray breakfast served in the room.
Cons: The reading lamp on one side of the bed could not be connected.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: We arrived late at night and was a little tricky to find. When you turn into the road the accommodation is just up on the left. You will see what looks like a private drive, its the house immediately to the left of the drive. We were greeted by the owner who showed us the 2 apartments. We were split as a 3 and a 2. The rooms were nicely appointed and comfy. The beds were a little soft (only a personal thing) and plentiful hot water for showers. Breakfast was provided for us all in the 3 bed room apartment, fresh bead, pasties, tea, coffee, cheese and hot chocolate. A welcome start to a day of long driving. Over all a great stay and would certainly stay again.
Cons: Maybe a bigger sign out the front on the road side.

Pros: The hotel was very convenient for the auto route. Reception staff helpful in recommending somewhere to eat, which turned out to be a highlight of the holiday!
Cons: It was on the edge of town & perhaps lacked the attractive surroundings we had hoped for. A few trees would help to improve the aspect. Off a busy roundabout, which obviously could not be changed. It is a travellers' stop over really, rather than a place to stay for longer periods.

7.0 Good
Pros: Parking was good and was quite enough and bed were comfy!
Cons: Bathroom and maybe a bit better cleaning
7.0 Good
Pros: It was an OK hotel. The lift was quick and regular. Parking was plentiful. Fridge available to store water for travelling the next day.
Cons: Location was a bit sparse. Ideal if you were going ice skating. We lost money in the drinks dispenser. The staff were not that helpful with that specific issue. Within a few hours they'd put the "out of order" sign on it.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Location just off motorway, but quiet and very close to restaurant, which offered discounts to residents
Cons: Single beds narrow 2ft6
6.8 Good
Cons: The poor quality towels. No drink facilities in room. Hot & cold drinks machines in reception broken. In the heat other arrangements should have been made.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: A very good stop on the way back to the tunnel
Cons: A little more room
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Air conditioning
6.3 Good
Pros: Secure car parking, lift to upper floor, restaurant nearby.
Cons: The breakfast was very basic, and the waitress insists on you cleaning up your own breakfast pots. The hotel is very basic and it's not in a scenic location - being sited on an industrial estate overlooking Decathlon car park.
7.5 Good
Pros: The location is a bit out of the way, situated at the very end of a rather run down looking trading estate. Secure parking. The room walls are quite thin and guests need to be aware of this (one room on the second floor in particular, knows what I'm referring to). Our room had aircon which was very welcome in the heat. There are some restaurants and a cinema nearby, but there is a much better part of the trading estate situated about 20 minutes walk away, on the other side of the dual carriageway, where there is a large supermarket and the usual fast food outlets.
Cons: We didn't get a particularly friendly welcome at reception. Not much information forthcoming. The room design was quite strange and was very small. The bed took up most of the room, so we struggled find places for our luggage.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: The staff were good and went out of their way to accommodate our party. Communication was answered quickly.
Cons: Would have been better with larger room and bathroom but we all coped!
5.5 Okay
Pros: It was clean.
Cons: Hotel was very basic & over priced.

Cons: Nothing, really...

8.8 Excellent
Pros: We liked the location and the staff were friendly and helpful. The breakfast was enjoyable and had good continental choices. We were able to park our car securely ( at extra cost).
Cons: Though there were fans in room it was very hot and made sleeping difficult. There were no tea coffee facilities in room.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The recepiotion was very friendly and very kind. The room was large and clean. Everything was ok. Top rating quality-price.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The room was large & very clean, the bed comfortable. Breakfast was good. A great location.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Fantastic location. Pleasant staff.
Cons: Limited parking, you do need to reserve in advance!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Location was perfect - in fact everything was.
Cons: Nothing
8.3 Excellent
Pros: The service and management was great. The were kind and let us check in as early as possible. The location was great.
Cons: The room was rather small and the view from our room was poor. Just an other building at 2 m.
9.1 Excellent
Pros: Pretty hotel in the town square with attractive old buildings. Quad room large, clean, modern and comfortable. Staff exceptionally helpful. Town is lovely. Would visit hotel and town again.
5.8 Okay
Pros: Right on the main square with parking and lot of bars. Big room. It has an elevator, but not to the one floor (between 1 and 2) our room was. The bed was ok.
Cons: The floor made a lot of noise. If you are not planning to wake up early, don’t sleep here. In order to go to the room, there was a small hallway, that had like 2 messy storage/bathrooms of which the door was always open.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Very helpfull reception. Good breakfast, Located very center for outdoor activities and restaurants , but be aware of many one way streets and road work if you come by car/gps
Cons: Too much «talk noice» from outside bar in front of the hotel, if you have rom facing the big square, especially if you sleep with window open. Had some minor problems with wi-fi.
3.8 Mediocre
Pros: for the price of the room you pays your price and takes your choice
Cons: everything..the bedroom was dark and sparse, bathroom towel heater did not work, the overall experience left me wanting to leave as soon as possible..i didnt hang around for breakfast
5.8 Okay
Pros: The hotel itself is not bad, staff was friendly and breakfast was very good and beds were comfy and all of that.
Cons: But family room was facing the main square, which had a number of bars on it and one had really loud music playing till 2:00am. So basically we could not sleep. So for family room is not really good solution so I will not stay there again. Also it is hard to drive to as there are renovations and many roads are blocked so our GPS was not much help.

8.0 Excellent
Pros: This was a standard Ibis so we knew what to expect. Plenty of parking which was welcome after along journey and the location is very pleasant and quiet. Breakfast was good and although the menu was quite small we enjoyed an evening meal.
Cons: Hotel difficult to find as it is out in the sticks with nothing interesting around. Unfortunately our SatNav couldn't find it so we had to keep asking people for directions.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: What I liked the most was the restaurant. It is very small and the tables are very close together, which I don't normally like, but I really enjoyed the evening meal as there were people from France, Belgium, Germany and the UK all there together and all chatting to one another in French, German and English. The food was very good, too. It was just a lovely, friendly atmosphere.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Comfortable clean room with air conditioning. Nicely landscaped outside and sitting area outside with umbrellas. Lovely place to sit and have a drink before or after food. Evening meal and breakfast both good with excellent service.
Cons: Nothing to dislike whatsoever
7.0 Good

Cons: It was all good

Overview Reviews
With a stay at Hotel de la cité in Chalons-en-Champagne, you'll be within a 10-minute walk of Notre Dame en Vaux and Museum of Fine Arts and Archaeology. Featured amenities include multilingual staff and luggage storage.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: A quirky little find, near enough to the centre to walk for a meal, far enough to be away from noise and traffic. Carmen was a very helpful and honest host, her best quote, "We are an old hotel and the facilities are old and French". If you want modern and boring, then stay at the usual factory produced places, if you wish to stay in real France, you cannot go far wrong. We happened upon the illumination display by accident, a real bonus for the town with animated displays on some of the major buildings. Walking through the town and back streets without any fear or concerns.
6.3 Good
Pros: I would like to be fair and not to critical of this property as I believe. . . . 'you get what you pay for'. So . . . . . The room (we had the ground floor room No. 1) was larger than expected . . .a shame about the decor. The bathroom was larger too . .but again, a shame about the decor. The breakfast room had a fine ceiling which is all I want to say about breakfast. The on street parking was free and very convenient and two restaurants within 5-15 minuite walking was also a plus. As for the location . . . .Quiet, out of the way but not a hotel of the city . . .not even on the high street. And as for 'you get what you pay for' I thought at 136.28e for two persons for two nights (with only one breakfast) was over priced for this standard of accommodation.
Cons: see my comments as expressed
6.8 Good
Pros: Very friendly and accommodating. Good value for money
Cons: Decor a little tired
7.0 Good
Pros: Spacious room, good location for overnight stop, clean & feels homely. Nice French culture
Cons: No air conditioning. No tea or coffee facilities
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The staff were most helpful and friendly.
7.0 Good
Pros: Enormous ground-floor room and bathroom. Easy street parking, and walking distance to city centre.
Cons: Unprepossessing location. Breakfast selection basic, even with supplement - though inexpensive by French standards! Gardens neglected, unlike photos.
6.3 Good
Pros: The bed room was large and airy and the bathroom was also large. Plenty of hot water and a nice long bath. The room was very quiet but a little bit chilly. Good parking outside hotel and not far too walk into the town. Hotel easy too find.
Cons: The bed was hard and we were glad we had our own pillows. No tea/coffee making facilities. Television too far away from bed. As it was a holiday we were surprised that the host didn’t,t know which restaurants were open in the town for her guests.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: This wa a very pretty romantic old style hotel with very clean comfortable rooms.
Cons: The breakfast coukd be better.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The hotel had a homely feel. Everything was clean and tidy, the bed was comfortable and the room was a good size. The breakfast was very good value and tasty.
Cons: There was a tired look to the interior. The stair carpet needs repairing for the sake of safety. The shower doors didn't quite close. But neither caused us a problem.

Pros: it was easy to find the hotel, at a quiet location
Cons: very tiny bathroom with old shower, toilet strong smell of freshly painted walls, they looked good, but the smell was not healthy
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Booked at the end of a long day on a motorbike......I saw the online reviews and although the room wasn’t huge and there was a slightly odd smell to the corridors I got exactly what I wanted at a very fair price. Nice hot shower and a really good breakfast.....Chinese buffet restaurant next door is worth a look too.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Simple , clean . Fine for a short stopover on a long journey.
Cons: Traffic noise
3.8 Mediocre
Pros: Parking place
Cons: Equipments from bathroom very old (especially the wash basin) . The air conditional worked all the night without possibility to switch off, creating a strong nossy —no chance to sleep well.

Pros: Check in 24/7
Cons: Miniscule WC/shower
8.3 Excellent
Cons: I would of liked to have had my own shower on suit and not communal.
5.0 Okay
Pros: Security gate as we were on motorbikes. However the pedestrian gate was left unlocked all night which was wide enough to get bikes out.

Pros: The location and the price-quality ratio. Comfortable beds.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: The restaurant is good with very good food and breakfast offering.

Cons: NOTHING
5.8 Okay
Pros: Location
Cons: Staff were grumpy and unhelpful
6.3 Good
Pros: Comfy beds
Cons: Price of drinks, 7 euros for poor quality lager.
4.3 Okay
Cons: The room we stayed in overnight was smelly, I wouldn’t recommend this hotel.
6.8 Good
Pros: Good location and we have used many times so know what to expect.
Cons: Rooms are "tired" and dark. Towels very worn/thin and at breakfast there were no cereals (there normally are).
6.8 Good
Pros: Beds very comfortable. Only a short drive into Chalons and just a walk to nearby supermarkets. Good place to stop for a night but I wouldn't want to stay there for longer.
Cons: One of the receptionists seemed really grumpy and unhelpful - perhaps he was just taciturn, but it put us off dining in the restaurant.
