ABOUT US: An ideal base for couples, families, lone travellers or friends looking for a holiday with opportunities for sightseeing and activities based in the countryside. This traditional gite offers an open plan lounge with log fire. There is a well equipped kitchen and dining area. The bedroom/bathroom is on the first floor. A cot and high chair is available should you require them. Outdoor dining and sun loungers in the extensive garden surrounded by peaceful countryside views. Ideally placed for walking, cycling with plenty of inspiration for photography and painting. The gite is located approx 1 km from the tiny village of Saint Pardoux Corbier. Here you will find a church next to the local bar where you can pick up your fresh bread daily and perhaps have a coffee with the locals and sample the local brew 'pineau'. The village has a weekly evening fete throughout July and August where you can try fresh local produce such as cheese, wine and other specialities of the region. Fresh meat and poultry can be purchased and cooked on the BBQs available in the village square. Of course live music and dancing goes on well into the night and this fete proves ever popular with locals and tourists alike. There is a fishing lake and tennis court approx 1.5 km walk from the gite. There are fetes, festivals and markets to be found throughout the surrounding area in the nearby towns and villages which are always alive with colour and character. The nearby town of Lubersac is within 5 km and has an open air swimming pool, restaurants, bars and cafes as well as other amenities including supermarkets, banks, post office, doctors, dentist and of course hairdressers! LOCAL PLACES OF INTEREST: Whilst staying in this area there are many wonderful places of interest to visit. You will not be disappointed by a day at the races in nearby Pompadour. Said to be the equestrian heart of France, you can enjoy a day on the racetrack or visit the equestrian centre to find out more about the horses and their riders and trainers. Pompadour Chateau is open to the public. If your tastes are of an historical nature, the neighbouring towns of Segur le Chateau is steeped in medieval architecture and history. Nestling on the banks of The Auvergne, you can soak up the sun and atmosphere, and perhaps have a picnic on the banks of the river. The nearby town of Uzerche also boasts some impressive architecture and is well worth a visit. You can also enjoy a day on the river, kayaking or canoeing as there are many places to participate in this activity to be found along its banks. THE LIMOUSIN/AUVERGNE REGION: Situated in South West France, the region is a place of outstanding beauty. Surrounded by 3 'Parc Naturelles' it encompasses lush forests, tranquil lakes and undulating landscape. The area is great for wildlife enthusiasts and bird watchers as the natural habitat supports a wide range of animals and birds including red and black kites, barn owl, golden orioles and hoopoes. Enjoying lovely warm, sunny summers. Within 30 minutes drive you can access the valley of the Dordogne well known for its dramatic landscape and water sport activities. In winter there are excellent skiing opportunities to be found at the lesser known resorts of Le Mont Dore and Super Besse in The Auvergne region which is easily accessible by car an hour and a half drive away. FLAVOURS OF THE REGION: The region is well known for its distinctive Limousine cattle which produces the finest Limousine beef. An apple and pear growing region, we are surrounded by orchards and you can always find an opportunity to sample the local cider. Another speciality of the region is tarte aux noix, a sweet nutty tart which will delight those of you with a sweet tooth. A huge variety of honey is always available for you to sample from the local producers at the local markets alongside its array of fresh local goodies. Altogether, this region offers many interesting sights and activities to make it an ideal place for couples, friends, lone travellers and families to explore, relax, rewind and mostly enjoy.
