9.3 Excellent (422 reviews)
10.0 Excellent
Pros: This is an exceptionally lovely place to stay. We were warmly greeted and shown around the house. Our room was very beautifully furnished and large. As a bonus, Frederic recommended a very good local restaurant situated in a stunning village. Breakfast was generous and a quantity of fresh bread and pastries made it very special. Frederic has a great eye for detail and presentation. He is a most charming host. We would certainly come again.
Cons: no comments here. We only found everything charming and beautiful here
9.3 Excellent
Pros: The authentic French experience, with the accommodation and the host.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: This is our second stay here lovely quirky place to stay. Our host Fredric is exceptional very warm an welcoming. Plenty of parking good breakfast.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Our Host Frederic could not have been more welcoming. A really lovely man. The whole Manor is decorated with all sorts of paintings and delightful and interesting objects. Our room was totally different to modern standard hotel rooms. It was perfectly clean with all the usual facilities, but decorated in a wonderful eccentric style. We loved it. The breakfast was beautifully laid out and the breads and pastries were delicious and the fresh made coffee was perfect. A top class French breakfast. Well done Frederic. We would recommend you to anyone passing near Alencon.
Cons: Our only disappointment was that there were no restaurants open in the village in the evening. So you would have to drive to Alencon to dine. This would mean one of your party would have to forgo enjoying a nice French wine. Drink driving in France is, quite rightly, very strict.
10.0 Excellent

Our room was very clean, the bed was comfortable and, even better, the bathroom contained shampoo, shower gel, make-up and nail varnish remover and cotton-wool and the all-important hairdryer. So thoughtful! Very happy with our stay and we would definitely stay here again.

9.5 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful setting, excellent location, friendly hosts who went over and above to accommodate us with a baby, we had a fantastic stay.
Cons: Not a lot. I guess it would have been nice to have some cheese or cold meats available at the breakfast to go with the fresh bread as this is traditional for continental breakfasts
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The welcome & helpfulness of the owner
10.0 Excellent
Pros: A family home steeped in interesting history allowing us a glimpse of the bygone days. Both our hosts were splendid and the excellent meal was a bonus. Comfortable and cosy room, just the thing after a long drive. Would liked to have stayed a few days but travel plans could not allow.
Cons: Nothing springs to mind and if I have to search for a negative then it really is not appropriate.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Tastefully maintained house, we were made to feel like family!
Cons: Nothing
10.0 Excellent
Pros: It was a privilege to stay in such an exquisite historic family home surrounded by beautiful art and furniture.
Cons: Unfortunately we arrived in the middle of a heatwave and in spite of the best efforts of our hosts it was uncomfortably warm in the bedroom and dining room. Also the wine should have been chilled more for our taste.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Stunning country house in lovely parkland; very refreshing swimming pond; fantastic hosts - Herve and Jacqueline looked after us very well after our long drive giving us a simple but tasty supper in the garden. An authentic French experience.
Cons: Hard to think what could have been improved, but this is not the place for you if you are looking for cable TV or an extensive menu.
8.3 Excellent
Cons: No price list of dinner or wine Limited choice of dinner(2)limited choice of wines(2)No choice of dessert.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: The ambience
Cons: Nothing!
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Wonderful house in lovely setting. The lady of the house cooked us a dinner with another couple also staying there and it was delicious.
Cons: The property itself is quite lovely but when you arrive be sure to park around the back and not before the arrival time stated, if you do not want to incur the wrath of the Marquis. I am not sure he quite forgave us!
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Hotel employee are wonderful hosts. We arrived late afternoon and took the time to explore the beautiful domain. The atmosphere at dinner was formal but relaxed and convivial with aperitif and after-dinner drinks thrown in. Pets and child friendly.

Pros: Superb location Monique couldn't do enough to help us she even arranged a taxi and a restaurant for us she was excellent the place is beautiful and in a lovely setting it was a shame we only stayed for one night would thoroughly recommend this place
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Cleanliness and the vivacious owner
Cons: The odd set up with the bathroom/toilet, over ‘eclectic’ decor (but I suppose this is down to personal taste) and the breakfast.
10.0 Excellent

Cons: Nothing

Pros: It’s a beautiful French house, stylishly decorated in a gorgeous rural setting, with a large and very pretty garden. It’s completely quiet. The beds are comfortable and everywhere is spotless. Breakfast is simple, the coffee is good and there’s delicious homemade bread, jams and cake. Monique is completely charming, delightful and very kind and welcoming. Her energy is amazing!
Cons: You’ll need to drive to nearby restaurants but that’s a small price to pay to stay here. Perhaps a little more storage in the very spacious and stylish room?
9.5 Excellent

9.3 Excellent
Pros: The great heritage and interior!!
5.0 Okay
Pros: The grounds are large and fun to walk. The hotel looks beautiful and has an interesting eclectic decor. Le Riad restaurant in town was a good recommendation.
Cons: The manager would not give a time for the room to be ready. We wandered the streets . Our ID was not checked. The hotel is beautiful in the pictures but poorly maintained. The smaller rooms are not just smaller, they are poorer quality. Not shabby chic, just shabby. Saggy beds, stained areas, broken flooring. Upstairs low ceilings The manager did not check passports. He then left and never returned. Pool security is poor. Pool area dead grass, broken tiling and no service. Dinner menu is a multi course obligation. Wifi doesn't work much if at all. Our shower consisted of a windowless tanked box. When we pointed out these problems they said we were just being difficult.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The staff were brilliant - after travelling for 2 weeks they were able to do our laundry! Really nice to join other guests for an aperitif before our meal.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Ambience
Cons: Food
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Lovely chateau, Family owned and run. Made you feel like you are a family friend not a visitor. They offer beautifully cooked dinner in the lovely dining room. Pros: Reception closes early which is an inconvenience
Cons: Reception closing early.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Clean comfortable hotel for an overnight stop
7.0 Good
Pros: The atmosphere is pleasant and the town is so historical.
Cons: That we couldn’t have coffee in the evening
8.8 Excellent
Pros: There was nothing to dislike.
Cons: No restaurant facilities
8.0 Excellent
Pros: The hotel was excellently equipped for an overnight stay, everything was scrupulously clean and everything worked as it should. That is just what you'd expect, but we all know how often that is not the case. The fully enclosed garden is very pleasant and parking is very private. We used Alençon as a stopover while driving to the Loire, and it turned out to be much more pleasant than we had expected.
Cons: There was little not to like as long as you knew what to expect. On a couple of occasions during our one night stay, staff were difficult to find - once, they were simply not on site.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Very clean spacious room Secure parking Friendly staff
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Freindly & polite staff Nice continental style breakfast Secure parking & garden
7.5 Good

Domitys Le Jardin des Lys - Alençon - Building
7
8.8 Excellent (58 reviews)
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Spacious, clean & dog friendly
Cons: Didn’t realise it was part of a care home so thought we were in the wrong place
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Made this our overnight stop on the way south. It was an excellent choice. Spacious, clean, quiet, private and with easy parking on the doorstep. Equipped with hob, microwave, fridge and all necessary cutlery, china etc for 4 people to cook a meal - despite what was said on one previous review. Aldi just up the road if you want to self cater, or it's a short drive to Alençon centre with its restaurants. Staff very friendly and helpful.
Cons: It would have been helpful if the management had corrected the previous visitors comment about lack of facilities to cook and eat a meal in the bungalow. We were surprised to find those things there and would have planned to eat there had we known.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The place was large, airy and spotlessly clean.
Cons: The location wasn't great with not much choice of places to eat but it was just a stopover so it did perfectly suit us and there was an Aldi around the corner so was able to get items to make our evening meal.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: - Extremely large apartments with great coffee machine, fridge, microwave, hob and sink. - we stayed just one night as a stop over to shorter our journey to Calais from the Dordogne.
Cons: - Not a negative but think this place is an old people’s home with external apartments they rent out. Wasn’t a problem at all though as we didn’t use their breakfast room or facilities.
7.5 Good
Pros: Very spacious and clean
Cons: Not close enough to town so nowhere near to eat Also seemed like an OAP holiday/retirement village not quite sure what was going on!?!
8.3 Excellent
Pros: An overnight stop for us only. Exceeded expectations in that it was a very clean and modern ground floor appartment. The appartment seems to be part of a private and expensive retirement home complex. Would definately use again.
Cons: Nothing not to like. Would have preffered more wall electrical connections points (we had many mobile devices to plug in and charge!) Be aware that the appartment location is not walking distance from the town centre. There is not much around in the vacinity. Restaraunts and town centre are a short drive over the river and left into the 'centre-ville'.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: The property was self contained with its own front and back door. The apartment was well furnished with kitchenette, cooking plate, fridge (with water included) microwave, table & chairs, crockery, kettle, coffee machine and coffee/ herbal tea provided. Large sofa, 2 chairs and large t.v. The two bedrooms were very large with a wonderful deep mattress. Separate toilet and a very good sized shower room with a large shower. Complementary toiletries. We accidently found a Vietnamese restaurant just about 400 yards from the residence. From the apartment front door, go to the top of the road and turn right past the front of the home. Keep walking and then the road forks and the restaurant is in the centre of the fork. Fabulous, inexpensive food. The Vietnamese couple that run it also do take away. The few other customers were so helpful to us trying to explain the menu as no one spoke much English and we have sparse French. Great food and fun too. Well worth a visit. We think the apartments are fabulous which have probably been designed for family wanting to stay a few days to visit family in the home. However apart from getting the key at reception everything else was great. Now we know, we would go again.
Cons: The apartments are adjacent to the main building which is an OAP home. We could not get into the property when we first arrived as we were let into the gate by someone coming out so did not notice the bell at the side of the gate. Once inside the gate the main door was not open but eventually someone came who knew about the bell outside and someone came and eventually we were checked in. The advert says bar, restaurant etc but these are really for the residents and close very early.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Suitably comfortable, good beds
Cons: very basic kitchen equipment, It would be nice to have a bread board / chopping board, a colander or sauce pan with a lid. A cork screw ! one is in France after all ! A handle in the WC for disabled / limited mobility guests.
5.0 Okay
Pros: Apartment large. Car parking directly outside door.
Cons: WiFi didn't work - reception gave incorrect code and closed 8pm before we noticed. No TV remote in room and again nobody in hotel to help. Cupboard / cutlery tray full of water. Bottle opener didn't work. No spa or gym facilities available as prromised. Room literature in room only promoting retirement home not hotel facilities!!!! Breakfast dreadful! Paid 8.50€ for mini croissant, small piece of bread & jam and drinks. Told nothing else. Receptionist not enough authority to discount so had to pay as leaving before manager arrived. Would never use again. Paid €110 for bed and no facilities! Bar shut at 8pm so couldn't even drown out sorrows!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Nice breakfast which we could have had served in our apartment. The facilities were excellent and we had our own front door and a small secluded garden.. Ideal for independent living. We also had full cooking facilities.
Cons: t would have been good to have had additional grab rails in the bathroom and toilet. Otherwise it was perfect for my husband who is disable as everything is on one level with wide doors and parking at the front door.

Pros: Everything
Cons: Nothing it was great
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Effective and efficient check-in, secure on-site parking. Great for an en-route stay.
6.3 Good
Pros: Parked directly outside our ground floor room. Rooms compact but functional. Doors open directly on to car park. Large double bed. Good value breakfast. Very good air con.
Cons: Isolated on a business park. Vending machines all broken so we couldn’t even buy water or have a coffee and snack as planned. A tacky Buffalo Grill nearby but had queues out of the door. We went for a drive to find food and water but couldn’t find anywhere open (a Sunday night). We found a packet of nuts in the car and used the air con to cool down a half empty bottle of water. Not exactly a feast, fortunately we’d had a good lunch. Room needs extra pillows, towels and a bin. Found a large dustball in the corner of the room.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast was simple, tasty and a good range of options for the value
7.0 Good
Pros: Good breakfast.
Cons: Thought it was expensive for what it was.

Cons: No tea or coffee making facilities in the rooms.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The owners were extremely welcoming and hospitable. They tried their utmost to overcome the language barrier because we don't speak much French at all. Their young son, Esteban, looked after us wonderfully and his English was very good. The room was stunning, beautifully decorated, very very clean, very large and we would love to stay again. It was extremely interesting to hear from the Grandfather that the family had lived there for 400 plus years. Such a beautiful place. The breakfast was simple but wonderful, bread, croissants, homemade jams and the coffee rocked!! We will definitely 100% stay here again!!
Cons: There was nothing we didn't like about this place, we would happily stay there again and again.

Pros: The coffee and the home-made preserves were excellent.
Cons: The cleanliness leaves a lot to be desired, hairs and marks on the basin. The shower in the bath was useless. The stairway entrance had dirty linen on the table. The bed was like a bouncy castle and the bed linen was awful, mismatched and and not of a good quality.

Pros: Not much!
Cons: The room was small and the toilet and shower were IN THE ROOM. No door! The interior was poorly lit. Breakfast was only carbohydrate and coffee /tea - typical French. Nothing fresh.

Pros: Location, convenient parking and value for money.
Cons: A bit "no frills" for a longer stay, but great value and perfectly adequate for a stopover.

Pros: Nearness to motorway for channel tunnel. Nearness to centre of Alencon. Price reflected condition. Ok if you are on a tight budget.
Cons: Very dirty radiator in room, full of dust. Fluorescent green painted walls in bedroom. Shower head holder was too high. Had to hold it to take a shower. Corridors painted bright yellow. Very tired, needs a complete overhaul.

Pros: I didn't like anything!
Cons: I booked half-board, thinking as one might that the evening meal would be at the hotel. No I had a choice of tokens. Pizza or American style fast food grill. These two options were in the opposite direction to the main town. I was also told that I would have to pay for the meal whether I took it or not. I had a beer in the old town 15min walk then had to walk to the grill 30mins then back to the hotel 15mins. Room was tiny (when sitting on the loo your knees were in the shower!) and not properly cleaned. Toe nail cuttings and other dirt on the floor. To ruin my stay completely two French speaking men arrived at 1am something and didn't stop talking until 03:15am after I banged on the wall very hard. Yes I did even had earplugs in. Walls paper-thin. Parking was off the road but not secured by any means. Anyone could walk in.
4.5 Okay
Pros: Easy to find
Cons: Very small rooms and poor value for money

Pros: Manager was friendly and helpful.
Cons: We didn't take the breakfast as we guessed it would have been inferior. Arriving on a Sunday we found no restaurants were open until 7.30p.m.
5.8 Okay
Cons: Dinner was in a restaurant chain 7 minutes walk away.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: This hotel is just a few hundred yards from the veloscenic bike route and is close to the bars and restaurants of Alençon so for us the location was perfect. Clean and tidy and run by a very efficient hotelier. He was happy to store our bikes in the hallway and provided a good early 7.00am breakfast. Great for an overnight stay where you just want to get on with things.
Cons: Nothing of any note
6.8 Good
Pros: Easy to get to on our route further South of France. Very kind host, great breakfast if a little pricey (7€ each)
Cons: Very uncomfortable beds. Hardly slept all night.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: The hotel met our expectations and the breakfast was good value for money
Cons: We couldn't get the tv to work but, to be fair, we didn't bring it to anybody's attention.

Pros: A great value ‘non chain’ hotel with its own bar and restaurant. The owner is very friendly and helpful. Only stayed one night but will likely go back to Alencon and would stay here again.
3.0 Mediocre
Pros: The only bonus was that the hotel is close to the railway station.
Cons: As soon as I arrived I realised the hotel room was very dirty, the bathroom floor was literally grey - even though the real colour had at some point been white. Nothing had been cleaned very well and even the coffee cup was filthy. The tablecloth was had stains and everything was run down. The hotel is at a noisy roundabout so sleeping with the window open is problematic on hot summer nights. There is no AC or elevator. I was on the third floor. The worst thing however was that the owner claimed the night before my checkout that I had not paid which was totally untrue. I had paid in advance via the booking.com site using PayPal. I luckily had a printout of this payment and he said ok. I didn't think anything more of it until the next morning when I was checking out and he started asking for money again, this time quote rudely. I was going to catch my train and he basically started telling me we need to call booking.com together and solve this. There was nothing to solve, it was between his hotel and the booking.com. He did let me go but I was shocked at his really rude behaviour and a little imitated as a women traveling alone.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The owner was extremely helpful and informative. The breakfast was basic but plenty on offer. We ate at the hotel and had a lovely meal. We were made to feel very welcome and valued. The second night was very cold and additional heating was offered and provided without having to ask for it. The hotel was a 10 minute walk into the centre.
Cons: The lack of off-street parking. However there was plenty of on-street parking in close proximity so it wasn't a real issue.

Pros: Staff excellent very friendly and helpful. Room was clean.
Cons: Room very small cramped and old fashioned. It is situated on a very busy roundabout and with windows open noisy from traffic outside. Walls very thin lot of noise from other guests. Hospitality tray consisted of a kettle and one cup. Although this was very cheerfully and quickly rectified. Parking could be a problem during busy periods.
