Room with Seaview and balcony n/a
Every box was ticked.....superb place No complaints
The location was great- overlooks the oceon, but no busy road to spoil the view, as there is at almost all hotels in Royan. Our room also had a balcony, and we got a good deal. Spa pool is not part of the hotel, but is attatched and can be used by guests- fabby Not really a complaint but at the pool- be warned that you are expected to wear a daft hat, flip-flops, and proper cosie(no shorts for men). Restaurant has two sittings, 19h and 20h30, which is a bit naff, but food very good.
The comfort of the room; the sea view; the wonderful food in the restaurant; the coffee/tea in room. Although the restaurant is excellent, the room service menu was very very limited. Also, the amenities such as shampoo/ soap/body cream changed by the day instead of enjoying it all every day.
The sea views and the location. The room was very spacious and well presented. The staff were very helpful and friendly.
The View. The Restaurant food and Drinks overpriced. Wifi not available in Room.Seating in Bar and Foyer very uncomfortable. No english spoken channels available for an International Hotel Chain.
Hotel is on seafront, and has it's own car park. The view from the sea facing rooms must be quite spectacular, but unfortunately there was not one available for us. Compared to other hotels we stayed in, staff were not friendly. A request (when booking the room with booking.com) to make up a sofa bed was ignored.
The staff was very helpful and attentive. The restaurant was very good. Nice bar, too. I wish it were easier to walk into town for dinner at night. It's a little remote. But during the day the walk into town is lovely. It's a bit of a stretch to say I had an "ocean view." I actually had a "parking lot view" with a little bit of ocean/coastline. That was a little disappointing.
Just what we were wanting. Close to the sea, walking distance to centre & reasonable price.
Everything was just OK The furnishings in the bedroom were poor e.g. there were insufficient pillows and the curtains could not be opened/closed without standing on a chair - it was quite disappointing walking into the bedroom considering the cost of our stay
Everything, especially the hotel staff who were very helpful
It was a same that the shower did not work and as we were there foronly one night it was not to important.
Locality, easy to find. Basic room, poor television.
The rooms very comfortable, beds new and very good to sleep in and staff very friendly. The hot breakfast options were rather un-appetising.
Staff very helpfull and hotel sited in a good place underground garage only made for small cars
Our room was upgraded free of charge Our room leaked by the window and the carpet was wet. despite telling staff no one took any action.
The reception staff were friendly, the hotel is accross the road from a lovely beach. Parking can be a problem if the hotel dosn't have enough space, there are car parks nearby but if the weather is good, it can be a problem parking. Room was very hot although the hotel does supply a fan.
location no evening meal
we had a big room at the front overlooking the beach
The hotel was near to Saintes, but in a very quiet location, so it was much more peacful than hotels in the centre of the town
This hotel was a good value for the money. The room was clean and comfortable. The hotel was surprisingly far from the city center of Saintes. From other reviews we thought it would be walking distance, but it was at least a few km!! We ended up driving in, but would have preffered a hotel closer to the restaurants, etc.
Basic hotel set in a zone with businesses, other similar hotels etc - ideal location and price for overnight stay whilst visiting Saintes, Cognac or various chateaux in the area. Hotel is 10k from Saintes so not practical to walk especially at night. There are a coule of restaurants close by the hotel but good choice if you drive into Saintes - we did not have a problem parking but imagine in July/August parking could be a problem in Saintes. Hotel has large, free car park, basic rooms, only one medium sized towel per person, but clean and with small t.v. Bathroom clean and adequate. Hotel breakfast very good value. Definitely a one or two night maximum stay hotel - area convenient but unattractive. Would have been good to have more than one towel per person in the bathroom.
We found the staff friendly and helpful and there was a good continental breakfast ready for us early in the morning
Easy to book, clean and convenient as a stop during our journey from St Malo to Bordeaux. In view of the cost of the hotel, I do not draw attention to any faults.
Very good breakfast, clean and bright rooms. The family room we had was huge ( 2 adults 2 boys aged 14 and 11)
The Manager and staff at this hotel were absolutely fantastic. They could not have been more helpful and even though it was only an overnight stay made us feel really welcome. This is not a luxury hotel and does not pretend to be, but it has all the facilities needed for a short stay. It is not very easy to find as the signs are really small guiding you towards it, but is worth it when you get there. We would absolutely recommend it.
Internet provision and the TV area in the reception was very useful. Very friendly, helpful staff. The room was refreshed daily to a high standard. Did not expect to find hairdrier or tea/coffee making facilities - this was not stated on the website - nice surprise No
Walking distance to Main tourist precinct. Free Parking & Free Wi Fi internet
Very impressed by cleanliness and layout of hotel. Reception staff very competent and friendly.
Breakfast was very good, with plenty of choice. Staff are very friendly and helpful.
The friendliness of the staff and the fact that I had free access to emials. No
Clean and nicely situated. Room was very good and food very acceptable No
Central to Old Town No lift
We stayed in this hotel for one night on our way down to the south of France. It is located in the old city with many resturants close by. Easy access from the motorway. Will stay there again.
hotel staff very helpful, room plenty adequate for a short stay, central location.
It's position in the town
The Hotel was ideally situated. We liked the decor and appreciated the fact that the hotel was quiet and the staf non obtrusive. The secure parking was a bonus and breakfast was also good No tea or coffe facilities either in the room or in the hotel in the evening.
Very central location. Quiet curtyard setting, with the exception of Saturday night. Car parking facility. Friendly staff. Carrying luggage to second floor on a steep and narrow staircase.
Short stay in saintes, lovely city. More basic than expected, stayed previously at Formula 1 next door and expected more for extra money.
A typical motel, great for a stopover, right by motorway. Clean, very helpful staff and tea/coffee making facilities. Excellent buffet for evening meal and good breakfast.
The staff was polite and came right away when we lost our electricity. The restaurant was good for a hotel of this class.
Food in restaurant was good. Location.
Convenient to motorway and easy to find, clean and functional, a good hotel for an overnight. Did not get the room type booked
Visited La Rochelle, and Cognac Price of room was dearer than booking price.
Easy to get to from motorway Had asked for a cot not supplied. The advert for the hotel said there was a children's playground this did not exist. Room was tiny.
Nothing. The room was supposed to sleep three plus a baby, but was tiny. The third bed pulled out from under one of the single beds and already contained an earwig! Once pulled out there was no room to pass to get to the bathroom and once the baby cot was up there was no free floor space at all. The light was hanging off the wall and the room was noisy. This was the most expensive of three hotels we stayed in and by far the worst.
Didn't stay long enough to judge, we chose it because there were rooms available for the date we had chosen
Reasonable value and cater for pets No non-smoking option
Excellent location right across the road from the beach. Friendly, helpful staff. Pleasant room with patio.
Courtesy and polite helpfulness. Very clean. Bathroom a little old fashioned but fine. Beds bit too hard for my personal taste.
Location and courtesy excellent, good position, and close to the beach, private parking
It's position and view - looking at the beach and sea - and the general ambience was just right for a relaxing break No
I liked the location, very close to the beach I missed the coffee and tea making facilities, which I used to have in hotels in the UK and our bed was little small, but on the other hand it was nice, clean and quiet hotel
very friendly staff, beautifully situated across the road from superb beach/ lovely views of the bay from the balcony. I only wish that we had more time to enjoy this hotel. the bathroom was very modern ad stylish with hot powerful shower. loads of space to store clothes etc. very nice soap and shampoo to give a sea side feel and sense of luxury.breakfast was delicious. all good!
Free internet and parking, location Noisy, very noisy. There is a road between the hotel and the beach and it is always busy. With no a/c you don't sleep either because it is too stuffy or too noisy.
Clean, nice rooms and en-suite. Friendly, relaxed. Good location on the beach. Excellent breakfast.
Very clean staff very helfull wonderfull location.Althouh i am dissapionted the owner thought my wife and i were trying to leave 2 days early without paying our bill when all we were doing was having a ride around the area on our Motorbike for a afternoon. But i would stay again at this hotel
Excellent views and convenency, ideal for family, and pensioners like ourselves enjoyed ourselves very much Hotel room and linen changed every morning many thanks to all the staff
Very friendly staff, speaking english very well. You can have a good meal (menu) in the restaurant for a very fair price!
The Visit was not a holiday as I was visiting my seriously ill father in hospital
Good breakfast and helpful staff. Good access to nearby restaurants Location not suitable for travellers without car.
Just a place to sleep one night during travel.
Close to restaurants, shops , beach and swimming pool Rooms were not up to 3 star standard, due to the lack of space.
Proximity to beach. Shower room though small was new and had a feel of luxury room was very small
friendly staff, situiation and view from room.good breakfast. smell of drains from toilet. cramped shower. lift only takes 3 when we were a party of 4 on 6th floor !
The sea view. The location - plenty of nearby parking and restaurants; close to the ferry across the Gironde.. Nowhere to sit in the room apart from the bed.
Good sea front location, easy to find. Lack of secure parking Somewhat impersonal. Breakfast is expensive.
Central location. Really noisy. Not from outside, but from corridor noise. Really odd accoustics .Coach parties going to and from rooms early and late. Could also hear people using toilet in other bathrooms!
The mezzanine family room very airy and spacious and very clean. Setting truly delightful and proximity to beaches excellent. Reception staff very helpful and attentive. Breakfasts were good but expensive, especially at Euro 5.50 each for 2 children who don't each much, when paying Euro 11 per adult.
Although a basic hotel we were pleasantly surprised, it was clean, excellent location, wonderful staff, good breakfast and restaurant, in all excellent value and somewhere we will return without hesitation.
Central location, food at the hotel, quietness of the rooms, comfort and cleanliness of the rooms and the hotel, cheerful staff. Bathroom lighting is only average, bathroom handheld shower is not easy to use, power socket in bathroom did not work properly.
The staff were very freindly and gave very good service. the hotel is very clean and well maintained. It is in an excelent posotion just right to take advantage of the local amenities. The buffet breakfast was well presented with a good selection of hot and cold food.
It was convenient for our golf weekend in royan and La Rochelle and offered good value for money
Staff were really good and were able to attend to our needs as required Very old decor with smell of old wet dogs (this hotel allows pets in all rooms we believe)
Good location for our requirements
loved the mezzanine concept. very comfortable and with balcony. thoroughly recommend
the staff were very helpful and friendly directions to hotel could have been clearer
Quiet in a good location. The room was large and comfortable, if a little dated in terms of decoration. The air conditioning was effective and quiet. We found the welcome a little lacking in warmth
The location, the grounds and the swimming pool area. The rooms were very corporate and so were a disappointment compared to the grandeur of the building overall
The friendly, helpful, approach of the manager. the clean room
We thought this was too basic for us, it was like living in a garage. Would hate to stay there in winter! Won't choose a Balladins Express again.
Hotel is situated very close to city centre - some traffic noise but essentially a comfortable, reasonably priced hotel with efficient staff.
Good arival process very helpful staff Parking outside rooms noisy in early morning
Very handy location to break journey if travelling through France down towards the Pyrenees. Hotel just off the motorway. Very friendly and helpful owner. Good breakfast (6.50 E). Free secure parking. Hotel not expensive but rather basic; rooms are in small chalets. Can certainly recommend it for overnight stay. Rooms were small but clean. Shower too basic.
Good location and friendly staff No particular dislikes
The location was very good. The bathroom facilities were below what I expected. Being allocated 1 croissant for breakfast was not acceptable.
Friendly and prompt attention from the persons in charge. Free internet availability is a plus. A little bit far away from the center of the closest town.
The staff made my stay enjoyable as they were very helpful and always very curtious.
Very basic and quite noisy at times. Room very small but clean.
The garden area. The room was by no means worth what we paid for it. There was only one small bottle of bath gel and one small bar of soap. Diners were segregated according to which menu they chose.
We loved the room. Have stayed several times at the hotel and love the different themes. The outlook at breakfast and dinner is superb. The two male restaurant waiters were helpful and considerate always. We didn't like that there were no hand-holds for the shower. We didnot have breakfast, only coffee, but we were charged for it which we thought was a bit mean.
Excellent food, wonderful gardens
Restfull atmosphere - good food
The ambiance, the swimming pool, the gardens and the food Breakfast was expensive at €19 each
The location, gardens and restaurant are excellent. The staff very friendly, welcoming and helpful. Although wifi was advertised it was not available in our room. We would have liked tea/coffee in the bedroom. The shower in the bath was inadequate.
Beautiful hotel in gorgeous surroundings. Very welcoming staff.
Scenery was nice The food was not good. We could have very easily been locked out of the hotel for the evening. It was difficult to find.
loved the extensive gardens and wildlife in ponds in garden, this was on view from the plush dining room, and the free apples from apple trees. Also liked the food, the bistro menu was very good and reasonable for the quality of the food. utterly disliked the themed bedroom blue& white with all walls covered in white painted weathered wood complete with woodworm holes and anything they could drag in from the garden, old plumbing and a terrible en suite, saved only by the lovely private patio area right outside your door.
Helpful and friendly staff and nice location. The map on the booking website was wrong but one telephone call to the hotel , which they answered instantly - no answering machines etc- and we were easily able to find our way. The food was excellent and good value. Very nice room. The price of the wine!! Tea and coffee making facilities would have been good.
hotel was nice but dated, a little bit like faulty towes at times. no where for guest to sun bath nothing other than walking, no other bars etc.
location, pounding waves which were wonderful, and were very helpful towards a good nights sleep short of staff
The hotel is fine. We stayed in the adjacent building which was fine as it has a big garden for the children to play in. The hotel itsel is a little formal for you children so we made use of the tables and charis in the garden to picnic instead of eating in the dining room. You need to walk about 1km to the nice beach / drive. Swimming pool was inside - little formal for young families
Close to sea, very good breakfast. Very small room, bathroom & bed. No window, no airconditioning.
Freindly staff, good fresh breakfast, we were made to feel very welcome. The lift could be a little bigger, room for one small person or 2 cases!
Very good value. Duplex family room with sea view; breakfast on balcony. Superb!
Hotel was well positioned. Good value for money.Close to amenities. Clean linen.Good breakfast. Nice public rooms. Shower was not enclosed.Noisy plumbing. No opening windows/air con.
Noisy neighbours in room nextdoor. Thin walls, lack of sound deadening etc
Easy to find, Parking reasonably good. Clean room, fair breakfast and polite and friendly receptionist. None of any note
Helpful approach of the lady running the hotel. Location of the room with a balcony overlooking the sea.. The shower was very small.
The receptionist was very helpful even though we muddled through with my very poor french. The room was large and airy and I especially liked having a balcony with a view As we were travelling on a motorcycle parking was a bit of a problem as we had to keep checking it was okay parked away from the hotel.
location bathroom in need of renovation
Wonderful peaceful location just up off the beach. Nice garden and pool. Stunning beach and lovely walk along the coastal path. Restaurants close by.
very nice location, friendly staff, excellent parking, room nice but a bit small and cluttered.
Old fashioned style.Good Location
good location and facilities
Excellent situation close to the beach, and in its own grounds with carparking.Room 20 was an excellent room
Excellent breakfasts, allowed dogs at no extra charge. Room had access to garden so made it easy with dogs. Location was superb, peaceful, scenic and central. We had no hot water/heating on first day of stay, no discount offered for this or any real apology from management. No hot drinks provided other than at breakfast.
The peaceful nature of the environment where the hotel is located: close to the beach and excellent for summer period. 1. The room was too small and needed to be aired more often; it was stuffy. 2. The air-conditioner was not working well. 3. The hotel description mentioned a restaurant, but there was no restaurant in this hotel. There were however menus for restaurants in the surroundi g area about 10minutes drive from the hotel. 4. A car is absolutely necessary for staying in this hotel.
access to the restaurants on the beach front would be improved by a wooden walkway across the sand, a cheap and easy thing to do. Also the reliance of the hotel on external restaurants means that they have no control over quality, the local establishments do not offer the same quality as does the hotel. On a rainy day there is not enough room at breakfast for allcomers to sit.
Friendly staff, nice location,wi-fi We stayed in 2 types of room. The small rooms were tiny and the shower had no screen. The large rooms were only adequate. This hotel was more like a b+b rather than a hotel.
