Outstanding Hotel in every way. Great food, not extortionate prices. Beautiful grounds, isolated in its own park/farmland. Service superb. Room a good size. What more can one ask. None, however it is isolated, be sure you have good directions to find it especially if it is dark on your arrival. Hotel is well sign-posted from the local roads. 45 mins from main Champagne house areas. Not particularly suitable for children.
Whilst providing lots of "old world" grandeur of the type you would expect from a French Chateau it had fabulous modern touches which sat comfortably side by side. The food was excellent and drinks by the log fire finished off a perfect evening. The staff were all exceptionally helpful and friendly and the attention to detail - even at breakfast - really made a difference making us feel very special. The real stars however were the family of wild boar that we met on our drive through the dark and misty road to the hotel - magical!
We have visited the Chateau once before and were very happy with our return visit, we received a superb welcome, ate fantastic food which was delivered with impeccable service, enjoyed the tranquil atmosphere in the pool and as an added bonus were upgraded to a fantastic room. Truly excellent.
Couteous staff, wonderful facilities, amazing restaurant!!
Location. No Air Conditioning
welcome ambience and attentativeness were very good as was the breakfast the bathroom was in need of attention the shower cubicle was right on top of basin making it a hazard to go in and out you had to be aware of the low beams in the bedroom all of which was looking tired and dirty
Wonderful, would definitly go again very welcoming Once they have completed the renovations it will be outstanding. The garden in front of the pool area needed tidying up. Other than that minor detail it was a wonderful retreat.
The welcome from the staff when we arrived was very friendly. Our room was in the main house on the 2nd floor, very nice and clean. The restaurant was very good, excellent food. Free wifi & a good tennis court. The bath wasn't the best, you couldn't stand up in it properly without catching your head - which was a shame as it was a large bathroom and could be in another position.
The restaurant was fantastic and we also liked the spa and tennis.
Location, service and friendly staff
Lovely view from rooms over the lake with the sun rising in the morning! Quiet and tranquil setting which was a very relaxing rest en route to our final destination.
Hotel is beautifully situated, very nice staff, lovely room overlooking lake but room a little tired - needs maintenance. Food not up to real french cooking.
Very comfortable, pleasant staff, excellent food. Handily placed for the Autoroute and an overnight stop . Will definitely stay there again. Slight odour of cigarettes in the bedroom, but no worse than many other French hotel rooms.
Staff were fantastic, kept the kitchen open so that we could eat later, helped the kids with their learning of french Rooms were looking a bit tired
Convenient stop over on way south considering we didn't want to drive too far from Calais on our first day with baby in tow. Tired decor, the room could do with a lick of paint. Overly expensive and underwhelming breakfast at 14Euro each.
Tranquil position, friendly staff, reasonable restaurant Bed mattrass a bit saggy but room spacious and clean
Good food, location, size of room and staff The shower was difficult to control and indeed washed the bathroom floor.
big improvement under new ownership, decor is better and cuisine was of high standard.Staff friendly and helpful.
The food was excellent - the staff were charming and helpful and the service was first class We liked everything about the hotel
A Mercure hotel, the position is really pleasnt with views over a lovely lake from all rooms. A profusion of water birds. Close to excellent golf course. The restaurant was very good and the standard rooms spacious with large beds. This was a very relaxing and enjoyable stay - sadly for just one night.
The welcome was good and booking in swift and efficent. The hotel was easy to find and was just what we wanted for an overnight stop. Although the rooms were very small, they were well thought out. Only one bedside table.
Friendly & helpful staff
The food / evening meal The small bath
Good dining! Standard Campanille food but well done with a good buffett service and breakfast Campanille is a cross between camping chalet and motel!
The hotel is conveniently positioned and unpretentious, clean and with adequate facilities, as well as secure parking. Pleasant staff. Restaurant offered plentiful food, well patronised by the locals. The reception/breakfast only opened at 8 so travellers on the move had to make alternative arrangements. No staff on premises overnight.
Clean The cost of the breakfast was rather expensive in comparison to other hotels
Easy location from motorway
Typical camponile hotel with friendly, welcoming staff
Good value for money.
Cheap overnight stay with reasonable facilities. Quite a hike up-hill into the town, but then most of the hotels are outside the hilll village.
This Hotel has been re-named fro Marmotte to Etappe which resulted in us wasting a lot of time trying to locate it.if we had arrived after 10 pm we would have been in trouble as reception is then closed.
Receptionist was really helpful and friendly free wifi free parking cheap buffet breakfast 4.50 euro p/p Couldnt leave window open for security reasons wifi wouldnt work in room had to goto reception
convenience for shopping and proximity to medieval town
Cheap, fine for overnight stay. Receptionist apologetic about hotel lack of signing. Breakfast ok Hotel has changed its name, we thought we had a booking at Hotel Marmotte. Took one & a half hours to find it because of change of name which booking process didn't tell us about. It is now Etap. Ground floor room not secure with open window. Asked to change to first floor - no problem.
Decent basic hotel for a stopover, clean, presentable but with no frills. Hard to find! If we hadn't come across a young man in town who knew the place (or if we hadn't understood French) I doubt if we'd have arrived before the reception closed.
Very small and simple room, but practical and also very clean. Ideal for an overnight stop on a long journey. Not so easy to find because hidden by IBIS sign.( Hotel is right beside Ibis Hotel.) Not much comfort but very good bed. Old town Laon up on the hill is well worth a visit. Impressive gothic church. Walk in town about 30 minutes (steep hill). Would stay there again
Not a lot. Had to ask for another towel as only one supplied for two people. Toiletries not renewed on second day. Lack of personnel able to communicate. No fruit juice and no explanation.
Bedroom was clean and nicer than I expected for the money. Overall I thought it was good value for money. Shower was very mouldy which apart from being unpleasant in itself, gave the bathroom an unpleasant smell. The hotel is situated next to a main road which was quite noisy through the night.
It is conveniently located to visit the medieval town of Laon without having to drive round the town's steep, narrow and confusing street system. It is also adjacent to the main road system for exploring the surroundong countryside - and to a large Carrefour. Lack of a restaurant, apart from breakfast facilities.
Wonderfully furnished - rooms and public areas; great food; nice staff; great location; private parking - very comfortable Although we tried, our French wasn't good enough for translating the menu. None of the staff on duty either spoke English or admitted to it. The food was great but a voyage of discovery!
Unfortunately there was actually nothing I liked about my stay. Unfortunately didn't like much at all. Was my last night of a fantastic trip in Switzerland. Stayed here on way home to UK. The people were not friendly and made me feel uncomfortable. The internet wouldn't work. The food was average and the room and facilities quite poor. Not a good value for money hotel at all. Certainly compared to the heaven I experienced in Switzerland!
Dinner was nice. The level of English spoken by the staff (very little) and it was dissatisfactory to have to wait until 8am (along with another couple) to check out on the Saturday morning.
Excellent food in the restaurant Very run down bedroom including handle of door that fell off and curtain rail insecurely attached. Bathroom fine but no shower in mine
The beds were very comfortable. The village is very quiet which make sleeping and relaxing very easy. We were put in the attic rooms and for anyone above 1m60cm (5ft) their is serious danger of knocking yourself out, and taking a show was dangerous as the bath was placed under the eaves and I was just about able to sit upright. The evening menu prices were incredible, not a single main dish cheaper than 45E, and no other restaurants in the area unless you want Pizza.
The food was good, but badly served and with little care. The dining room staff were poor. They forgot our aperitif despite asking 3 times. They used the end of our table to stack everyone elses dirty plates. No a la carte available at dinner. At breakfast they ran out of jam!! No decaff coffee and forgot to serve the orange juice. Nobody cared. I am afraid there was plenty that we didn't like: We never saw the owner: the bedroom was very cramped & dark with low ceilings so we couldn't stand up. My husband could not stand up in the loo! No drawers to unpack into. One side of the bed had no table. The dining room staff were poor - we waited ages for a menu and eventually collected our own. The same with the wine list.
Most welcoming at the commencement of the stay and top class service throughout. Food is excellent and there is a huge choice of wines from the cellar.
The food in the restaurant was excellent.Service was polite but slow. Reservation to include a big dog. They allocated the smallest room in the hotel. They didnt notice my instruction about the dog ! Also we were told we could not be any later than 8.30pm into the restuarant. We arrived at 8.10pm !!
Dinner was ok. The dining room has some charme And nice views. The licationl is in a nice and has potentials. However, the hotel needs quite a lot of remodelling to be considered as such! Not a good value for the money!
Very convenient location for travelling to South of France, very helpful and friendly staff. Non smoking hotel but our room was smoky.
convenient and comfortable, reasonable price. Good breakfast. no
Clean & Comfortable Hand held shower. I prefer a proper shower.
Good clean rooms Breakfast not up to standard of rest of hotel. Coffee reheated from night before
beds tooo hard
Helpful staff, especially at reception, and quiet comfortable room. Also a good comprehensive breakfast.
It was ideally situated for our journey to the Alps. It was useful to be able to check in at midnight. We would have liked a kettle and drink making facilities in the room.
located reasonably close for exploring Laon although not close enough to walk to the centre.
We stayed just for one night as a stopover en-route to Bourgogne. The hotel worked well for us plus the rooms were comfortable and clean.
Excellent Buffet Breakfast Lack of Real No Smoking policy in rooms
Fairly good but again soap nearly empty Again shoulb be 2 channels english for english travvelers not all french
Bathroom was very small. Our shower did not have a spray/head attachment on so it was like having a "shower"beneath a huge tap.The second bathroom did have a proper shower attachment.
Cheap & cheerful Noisy arrivals late at night Room not conducive to tall people
limited breakfast choice - no croissants!
lovely historical old town with fantastic cathedral
It was inexpensive and the parking was very easy., The windows were very small and the room quite claustrophobic
We arrived very late at night and it was great that we were able to register and obtain our room key by using the outdoor automated machine. We were lucky that we had a room on the first floor. Instead of leaving this to chance, it would be helpful if one could give a floor preference beforehand. We're not so good with the stairs.
It was a great overnight stop and there was no mention of bunk beds in booking and my 2 year wasn't appropriate. The double bed room my parents stayed it was not 2 sheets just one sheet folded over ok you are cheap but is that correct do you think?
We arrived at 3 am and received a warm and friendly welcome on a cold night after a tough journey Sound-proofing of rooms not very good
Gute Lage, preiswert, aber sehr kleine Zimmer, freundliches Personal, für den benöötigten Zweck optimal extrem kleine Zimmer
v.clean, v.friendly, v.quite, plenty of space for two adults, 10yr, 4yr and 9month old. lovely breakfast, check in all done in-advance,excellent over night stay, local to laon and reims. would recommend
nice room & good price trouble booking in, nobody on hand & had to phone for someone to come . very small village & nowhere to eat or drink open the day we were there. quite remote
convenient location in village near autoroute, clean, secure parking, helpful welcome, budget overnight stay, requested quiet room provided at back away from busy road very basic, slightly "chemical" smell in room, bathroom door handle fell off, tied to village restaurant a few hundred metres away or need to drive, breakfast croissant/baguette seemed a little stale, advertised "free" wifi was not free although only €1 for 24 hours
Ideal stop-over hotel with easy access/departure
It was rural without being too far from our main travelling route and had convenient parking right outside of room Six guests were present at the time we sat for the buffet breakfast and only four cereal bowls were available (I asked for more but apparently there were none). And I didnt think breakfast was good value for the extra money we paid for it.
Very convenient for an over night stop whilst on the motorway. We were round the back so lovely and quiet. Room cleanliness poor. Breakfast a bit meagre.
well appointed rooms and easy acess for parking
It was convenient for an overnight stay and the arrangements for booking in worked very well. Our room was on the side of the hotel away from the road and therefore we had no traffic noise. The room and hotel looked a little neglected. The room heater did not work, the shower cubicle was broken and the door would not shut, the basin tap leaked and there was no plug meaning that I had to waste water while shaving. Not efficient for the planet!
Simple, clean rooms, ideal for a one night stop over. Also breakfast was included in the price which was a nice surprise! Needed air conditioning
