Very clean hotel, lovely staff, and a very short walk into the town without the expensive prices. Staff were always ready to help. The closeness to the train station was great, and any noise was blocked by the double soundproofed windows.
Ok isolation against street noise. Bathroom no luxury, but ok standard. Nice parking area. Approx 10 min. walk to town center. No airconditioning. Room with windows towards the street resulted in a warm night! Hard bed.
friendliness and helpfullness
This booking was made by me for my parents as they travelled through France and they said the staff were extremely friendly and helpful.
Convenient for access to the town centre. Breakfast could be improved.
Friendly and accommodating staff, comfortable room, off-road parking, good breakfast
The owner was very friendly. The secure parking for our motorcycle was very welcome. The hotel is a 15 minute walk across 2 bridges and an island to reach the city (we walk quite quickly)! The pillow was so hard I couldn't use it as it was like sleeping on a log.
Host was very helpful and breakfast was good Noisy as near railway, which was busy all night
Friendly welcome, clean rooms, secure parking. Further than expected from the city, some noise from the railway running next to hotel.
1minites de la gare. it is very convinient for the touriste by train. The room is very simple ,but enough. en plus there is bathtab, ca me plait beaucoup.
Very friendly and helpful staff. Nicely decorated rooms - very clean and tidy. Quiet hotel - but in the middle of Saumur.
The rooms were comfortable
Spotlessly clean, good position & parking, excellent buffet breakfast.Good service. None
The staff was excellent in helping us during our stay. They were always available and provided us with local information and suggestions for sightseeing, restaurants, etc. The rooms were clean and comfortable, with space for luggage. The bathrooms were in excellent condition. The hotel is very conveniently located for exploring Saumur and the region. There is, of course, no elevator in the hotel, so my only suggestion is to other customers: pack light, or be prepared to haul your suitcases up several flights of stairs. Perhaps France could curb its current unemployment crisis by hiring "bell boys" for hotels such as this, who would help with carrying customers' baggage up several flights of stairs! :>)
Good city centre location. Rooms clean & comfortable Minimal continental breakfast.
Kind attention to klient The design of carpet in the stairway
very friendly and helpful front desk in the afternoon when we arrived - quiet position - very central - ideal family room - challenging car park!! but very useful
Great cental location. Most staff very helpful. Room light and clean. Carparking suits small cars. One very miserable receptionist!
An excellent cental location with good parking
The Receptionist was very helpful.
Everything. The room was beautifully appointed, the restaurant is amazing, the grounds are serene no
Beautiful stately home, and even though our room (the cheapest!) wasn't in the main building, it was still gorgeously decorated and luxurious; my girlfriend fell in love with the four poster bed! The restuarant was also excellent, with a wide range of dishes for non-meat eaters - but be warned: it is closed on Monday and the nearest eaterie is some distance away. Overall a lovely experience.
very nice room and surroundings. no.
Pleasant welcome and lovely spacious room and bathroom under the roof. Attractive grounds
Nice bathroom. Comfy big room Receptionist seemed rather busy elsewhere and took a while to come over from her "house".
The owner, who's also working at reception, is exceptionately friendly and helpful. We loved the rooms inside the main building / chateau, which very very attractively decorated, comfortable and clean. What a wonderful experience to stay in the French countryside in such a lovely hotel!!
Good restaurant, plenty of space in he room and the grounds, swimming pool and 10 mins drive from Saumur No
Excellent staff and welcome. Good beds. Good park with lake. Food was disappointing.
beautiful garden, nice surroundings, private terrace with chairs outside the room, nice restaurant with good food, good wines, friendly staff no
reception very helpful. quiet, rural location
Nice, familiary hotel, kind, helpfull services
The location was close to the city centre and there was a free car park within 100m of the hotel. The bath in the bathroom was appreciated. The stairs were slightly awkward and it could be difficult to find the hotel without satnav.
Location convenient Room a little dated and the school playground next door encouraged early rising
The family style welcome at the hotel. Each guest gets a personal welcome. The shower connection on the bath!
Monsieur and Madame Dalac were wonderful hosts, making us feel at home. They helped us with arrangements for visiting places and with reservations. The hotel was conveniently located to the historic center of Saumur; it was clean and charming. We would recommend Le Volney for anyone appreciating a warm welcome, lovely atmosphere, good location, and a personal touch to services.
Town centre location, friendly staff, nearby free parking, good sized room.
Staff where very friendly, beautiful big hotel room, great location, good value for money. I would stay there again.
We used this hotel for an overnight stop as we drove through France to Spain. We arrived quite late (8pm). We only saw one member of staff at the small reception - he was extremely helpful and gave us details of where we could part the car very locally for free. We had not complaints about the hotel, it suited our purpose exactly. The only small criticism was that the room was quite warm and there was no air conditioning.
the hotelier was very helpful and friendly. It was fairly centrally located We managed to park for free by the sea but other wise may have had to pay 10 euro to park next to the hotel
Staff friendliness, price, big bathroom, comfortable bed, good soundproofing, location The room may need a bit of renovating, especially the carpet, but it was fine for the price we paid.
The hotel had a lovely garden out the back which would be great if you are travelling with children or wanted to relax with a book under the tree. The staff were quite incompetent and unfriendly. We had specifically requested a double bed when we originally booked and were told that they didn't have any double rooms available so we had to stay in two single beds! They did not even offer to push the beds together to and make it as one double. There wasn't much information on the Loire Valley at the hotel. Only really Chinon. It took quite a bit of time to get to Blois and Chambord. We estimate 1 and a half hours so if you're going just for the weekend we'd suggest staying closer to that area. Also we booked this hotel because it had WIFI but it did not work in our room.
A hotel of great character in a good setting. The evening meal was lovely and the breakfast was good. Not much sound proofing between rooms.
A lovely room - sympathetically restored & appointed
Large bedroom. Dark depressing room with tired furnishings. Needs some tlc.
I loved this place. Peaceful, charming, clean. The staff were wonderful. Close enough to other villages and chateaus but far enough out to enjoy nature. Very Peaceful. If you prefer to stay in the restaurant was very good. Can't think of one thing I didn't like.
This was our 3rd visit so we knew what to expect and weren't disappointed, except by the fact that during our stay (Sat/Sun) the restaurant was closed.
Very quite country location, good welcome and choice of rooms. Big room. Rooms and furnishings are old rather than the implied antique.
The natural setting, the quiet, and the service by he staff We had a difficult time finding it. GPS coordinates would help
The hotel is an attractive old manor the rooms had been refurbished and were of good size clean comportable breakfast buffet excellent. The resaurant is closed on fris Sat and Sunday we would not have booked if we had known this as we had to drive to town for dinner. If this is important to you check before booking. Also unable to pay by card as his machine was not working elderly man on reception unhelpful and demanded cash when a phone call could have put it rightwe were not only ones with this problem.
Very beautiful place, excellent hotel for spending some nice days in calm The only thing that was not perfect is the breakfast.
I liked the quiet situation and the feeling of peace. The staff were friendly and the room quiet and comfortable. The water pressure was excellent. The food was good and salad and vegetables were included, so healthy. The toilet was very narrow and unventilated.
Friendly staff, good location, comfortable and well appointed rooms.
Good hotel with central location. Good rooms. Good recommendations for restaurants. Noisy street so keep windows closed. minor issues with door lock on toilet
This is a super hotel in the heart of the city. Recently renovated, the décor is tasteful and imaginative, and has been finished to a very high standard. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Breakfast was very good. Our room was comfortable and well thought out, and with a little balcony overlooking the street for evening entertainment! We saw the good secure parking but made use of the excellent bicycle storage facilities. Thoroughly recommended.
The staff were very helpful, friendly and the secure parking was a huge bonus. The hotel was very well positioned in the city centre. There was no lift available, the reception was on the first floor and our room was on the second.
central steep stairs
The only downfall was no lift, but there was help with your bags if you needed it.
The owners and staff were very helpfull and welcoming. Breakfast was fresh and included homemade chocolate cake! Hotel was easy to find and central. Private car parking.
Staff were charming, hotel was delightful, well appointed and has private parking near the center of town. Would happily stay here again.
The staff were very welcoming and helpful. The room was very comfortable and the location was excellent. We requesting overnight parking and it was all arranged when we arrived.
Access to shops Parking was a little difficult
Breakfasts were excellent Not particularly
What a lovely little chateau. Food was excellent value - 5 courses with a different wine with each course. Staff were really friendly and helpful. Wish we could have stayed for longer. Would recommend this place to anyone.
The relaxed and friendly atmosphere
Friendly welcoming owner. Very welcome cup of tea on arrival. Beautiful room in a fascinating chateau. Lovely well maintained grounds.Unfortunately due to illness we had to leave after only one night.
The Chateau was fantastic. Beautiful rooms and grounds, lovely friendly staff. Very relaxing and a short walk to a nice little town. The meals were also excellent and great value for money. Highly recommended, you must stay here!
This chateau is absolutely marvelous! We were warmly welcomed by the owners who made our stay very pleasant and personal. The rooms are nice and spacious. I can especially recommend you the diners. There’s no need to go out for a meal since this chateau serves amazing 5-course meals. This chateau is highly recommendable for a few days of relaxing vacation!
Beautiful house in a lovely location. The staff took a personal interest in making us welcome and looking after our needs. We were on the top floor. Access was via a very interesting staircase which might prove to be a challenge for some folk. The hotel plans to install a new access later this year so this issue will hopefully soon be resolved.
Needs money throwing at it but that said a nice experience
the surprise menu where you ate what he chef prepared was excellent
Lovely hotel, but the internet and the hotel info stated the evening meal was 35 Euro, to include 4 wines. We were charged 12 Euro each for the wine and 2 Euro for a sachet of coffee. It was great food, but we left feeling very cheated.
very friendly staff. Wonderful breakfast
Staff, room, breakfast were all excellent. Fun & accomodating employees. Very helpful. Liked everything.
Nice, comfortable, clean room on a quiet back street. Easy walk to old town area and the castle. Breakfast was great and staff very gracious. A little hard to find.
The management staff (3 siblings who are the owners) were extremely accommodating and helpful. And funny and friendly, too. They run a good comfortable hotel in a great location. Chinon is a small town, but interesting. Nothing.
quiet hotel situated close to the town centre. the hotel had some character as it was an old house.
The staff were excellent, very friendly and welcoming. Hotel setting was beautiful; lovely courtyard, pretty garden and patio, a little retreat from the town. Rooms full of antique furniture, and excellent continental breakfast. And good value for money. Nothing - would have liked a room overlooking the courtyard (larger and lighter), but they were all gone!
Small very Friendly good location, you can walk around town
The country-like setting in the middle Chinon was amazing. Felt like staying in a park with all the beatiful blooming flowers.
Warmth of staff and personnel, a very enjoyable stay. No, comment, Hotel difficult to find, perhaps more signs.
The hotel location, teh staff and the ease of access to the town centre. Bearkfast too expensive and little choice.
the price no tea or coffee makinging and only one seat
The hotel was clean and a short walk from the City Centre Bunk bed not suitable for adults - we werte two males travelling together. Overall, much to cramped. The following nights we went to Campanile!
The low ceiling height and the access to the bunk bed
good breakfast. rather noisy but value for money.
It was a small room, but was a perfect place to crash for one night and the balcony had an amazing view of the chateau in Saumur and breakfast was included. You couldn't beat the price, that's for sure.
It was easy to find and, while a basic hotel, it did have everything we needed for an overnight stop. Breakfast was good value too!
Thoughtful choice of connecting rooms for us and our children. Very pleasant outside area for sitting Much improved breakfast! Insufficient tables at breakfast - and two people occupying tables meant for six, leaving smaller tables empty!
Very convenient for Saumur. The morning manager was very helpfull. A credit to your company. Other guests were white van drivers who began making excesive noise from approx 4.30am
The address given did not correspond with the satnav and so it was very difficult to find - others were phoning for instructions while we were there, obviously having the same problem.
easy access to room from outside Rooms a bit cramped. Could not find hotel at first. clearer directions on printout would have been better, like turn first right on entering ecoparc
Execellent Restuarant food outstanding. No Hotel Parking but not a problem
The location by the riverbank and centre and in the shadow of the Chateau was impressive and easy access to the train station 1.7 km walk just across the bridges. Also that the hotel had a restaurant and bar Lack of wardrobe or clothes hanging facilities
Pleasant family run hotel with charming staff and a good restaurant. Hotel was a little old fashioned but clean tidy and had character. No lift
Ceiling in bathroom too low - unable to stand upright 6! 2" tall.
The location was the best part together with the excellent restaurant, the set meal was very good indeed. The lack of a lift could be difficult for people with poor mobility. Generally we found that all breakfasts during our week's stay in France were rather expensive compared with the cost and quality of the evening meals
Would like more storage, coat hooks, ledge in bathroom
The view from our bedroom was lovely - overlooking La loire and two of its bridges, but we already knew that from previous visits. Upon booking back in February I did ask for room 20 on the first floor. When we arrived we were put into room 26 in the annexe on the 2nd floor with 42 steps on a very winding staircase. We had this room last time and that is the reason we did not want it. The room itself, once we were in, had a lovely view of La Loire but we were very disappointed to be given number 26. Although my husband and I are pretty fit (77 and 72) the 42 steps each time up to the room were a struggle, especially carrying luggage.
The hotel was centrally placed for Saumur and had public (free) car parking overnight outside the door. Misinformation about a non existent exhibition the next morning which meant that I had to move my car on the evening of arrival rather than leave it outside the hotel to a slightly further away car park. Also, bedding from the previous occupants was left lying in one of the chests of drawers in the room and had not been removed after cleaning that morning.
I found the bed very uncomfortable as it was too soft and too low. This meant that it caused back ache and was difficult to get out of. There was no reception room in which to sit and wait for friends or transport.
breakfast was good but very short on staff -- we had to ask every morning for more sugar --- we werent the only ones . T he location is excellent --- bistro appeared also to be very good felt that the brochure over glamourised the picture of bedrooms --- our " double " bedroom was only in fact a four foot bed . there was no shade on the bedside lamp and the lighting was very poor
The helpfulness and friendliness of the staff. The noisy American party and the way they took over the peace of the courtyard
I had stayed at this hotel before and liked it very much. I love the architectural style of the building which is very elegant. Excellent location. Helpful friendly staff. I had booked a double "Prestige Room" for single occupancy but I later requested a twin bedded room, when a friend decided to join me on my trip. Whilst the twin bedded room was perfectly comfortable, I would not have described it as "Prestige".
Hotel setting and staff were both excellent, also well positioned for restaurants etc. Rooms was a bit scruffy and could do with fresh lisk of paint, coffee at breakfast was terrible
Comfortable hotel in an historic old building. Bit more expensve than I expected
The ease of check in and check out Sattelite tv ? there were 3 channels
We enjoyed the view from our room, 212. We appreciated the quiet for sleeping. There were three things that made us uncomfortable in the room. There was no real hot water for showering. The TV was difficult to operate. The lighting beside the bed was inadiquate. The lighting should be over the bed for reading purposes.
Position; views. Small but comfortable room. Pleasant, accommodating and helpful staff.
Friendly, helpful staff combined with a truly excellent historic location with views of both the chateau and the Loire; very convenient for walking to the centre of Saumur. Overall, nothing to note.
Great Service, Restaurant across the courtyard was excellent too.
Sitting on the patio enjoying the view of the castle while drinking a glass of wine and eating Brie cheese. great atmosphere
swimming pool and grounds lack of tea making facilities
Good wi fi connection
It was clean, functional and good value for money. We are used to having tea/coffee facilities in our room; these were not available.
big room, big bathroom, all new furniture, cleanliness
We enjoyed the peacefulness of the hotel, the lovely breakfasts and the helpfulness of the staff. The room was very clean and had a pleasant view of the gardens. Good literature provided for excursions. Too far from the town to walk and not really in a location convenient for country walks. Still a good base for exploring the area.
The chef employed by Le Dagobert must be world class, The food was beautifully presented and of superb quality - Excellent! Nothing of note
The friendliness of the staff especially la Madame of the Hotel who made us so welcome and could not have done anymore to make our stay such a pleasure. The chef who provided us with delicious and attractive meals. First class we intend to go back.
Very good location within walking distance of shops and restaurants. Friendly helpful staff
Beautiful Bijou hotel in the heart of a beautiful city.
This hotel is very central, charming in details that makes your stay not only most comfortable but memorable to return to. The staff, excellent.
Central to Saumur. Extremely helpful staff
Room cleanliness & comfor. It's a lovely, romantic hotel in an ideal location
Beautifully refurbished building. Perfect location for access to explore Loire and Saumur. Parking! Host could not have been more helpful.
This is a truly lovely hotel right in the heart of Saumur. The staff were friendly and helpful, and the hotel was beautifully decorated, well maintained and spotlessly clean. We thought this a perfect find and will be returning.
This is a tastefully decorated, charming hotel in the historic centre of Saumur. The proprietor was very friendly and helpful, and the breakfasts were memorable!
The rooms were elegant and the service was on a personal level, very welcoming. The breakfast served was absolutely fantastic.
Helpful staff, location, beautiful building... No
Location-Central location in Chinon Wifi worked Ample free car parking Breakfast range and facilties very limited in comparision to other hotels of similar price Room sparsley equiped and furnished
The hotel was cheap The room was extremely shabby with very poor decoration and furniture
good location for the old town breakfast poor value for money, in depressing surroundings. pain au chocolate were like biscuits, limited choice for 8 euros. bedding in room poor, blankets are unsuitable, shower flooded out of the bathroom onto the carpet.
Center of town Lack of Restaurant and bar on Sunday
I've stayed at the Lion d'Or three times now. I like that it is very close to the centre of Chinon, it has parking very close by and it is easy to find. The location is excellent. The rooms are basic but reasonably comfortable and not as small as some you find. It is a good stopover hotel for travelling from the Channel ports to the south or on the trip back. For me, it is important that the hotel welcomes pets, we like to take our dogs on holiday.
Very clean sheets and Hot water. Great Evening meal The proprietor has a very good business running the hotel as a resturant in the evening and a cafe in the morning. Its very popular and busy and they take great pride in it Breakfast a bit expensive and not extensive enough, but nice enviroment to eat in. I got up late so I may have missed out !
The service and pleasantness of staff. The availability of good restaurant facilities. There was inadequate space for the storage and hanging of clothes. We had to keep most in our suitcases, taking up floor space. The lighting avialable in the room was poor, though one appreciates the intention to reduce energy use.
breakfast was good but would have preferred cheese/ham or eggs with the rolls as do not like jam/cereals so just had a bread roll and was not worth the price..
Simple, well placed. Personnel very simpatetic. Cleanning well done, lcd tv. Bedroom cushion uncomfortable, wifi not working in my floor. After requested to the front desk to fix it, answer was that the problem was my computer...so everyday I had to go downstairs and conect to another hotspot in the same hotel, outsode my room. So the problem was not in my computer. So a bit more attention was missing here.
The location in a quiet and pleasant square No view from bedroom
The staff were very considerate when I got sick and needed some quiet recuperation time. The hotel chef/manager went out of his way to make the 4 of us feel very welcome, even during the daytime when we needed a quietspot outside to eat our lunch.Free parking onsite. It was a bit out of the way so you needed a car to see the sights and go downtown.
Comfortable for a three night stay and very convenient to explore the Loire district. Excellent helpful staff and great restaurant convenient for dinner.
A very comfortable room and very friendly helpful staff The restaurant was very good value for money and excellent food no
The friendlyness of the staff
The bed was comfortable. We booked because it was supposed to have a good restaurant, but upon arrival we were told that the restaurant was closed on Sunday and were given no useful help in finding an alternative. It was too far to walk to town and, having driven there, we found that most restaurants were closed.
Hotel location We initialy ask for 2nd floor room- not given no maps of saumur in the hotel except on the wall we ate continantal breakfast and were charged for a buffet one
Friendly staff and good value for money
helpful and friendly staff no
Restaurant was good and owners were very helpful
Relaxed atmosphere, helpful staff, wonderful view from our room
The Hotel was in a great location with great views of the Chateau and it is on the bansks of the Loire and within walking distance to lots of great restaurants. The bar closes at 11.00pm even on a Saturday night which is not much help when you hope to return after eating out with friends and having a nightcap together before retiring for the night.
Rooms very clean and staff really helpful Can't say we disliked anything
The hotel was very comfortable with good facilities, It was in a perfect position overlooking the river and chateau.
The location for the view over the river and chateau was excellent. Only a very short walk to the shops and market. Good value.
proimity to centre of town restaurant staff not very friendly , looked down on
Very good breakfast. Night clerk was very helpful as we arrived very, very late and she helped us enter the garage, find a parking spot, get our stuff into the elevator and get into the room. Wish I knew her name. Found the name of the hotel confusing, it is the Mercure on the signage and staff told us it was changed a couple of years ago--we missed it the first time because we didn't see the secondary name on the sign--we were looking for the Loire Hotel.
Location, Room, Staff Internet was not available during our stay. Only 10 TV channels available.
Situation, friendliness of the hotel, cleanliness. We were very pleased with the hotel.
Not easy to find but staff gave good directions on the phone.Convenient for a short stay
The friendly welcoming nature of our hosts and their willingness to connect with us. The food was tasty and the accommodation was good value.
