Featured amenities include dry cleaning/laundry services, a 24-hour front desk, and luggage storage. A roundtrip airport shuttle is provided for a surcharge (available on request), and self parking (subject to charges) is available onsite.
7.9 Good
Pros: Location is great. Short walk to the main street. The place was clean. Wifi was strong. Host was nice enough to provide a fan when requested.
Cons: The kitchen wasn’t available to be used even though this was advertised. I only needed to boil water in the morning for coffee I had brought. They didn’t even allow that. We were supposed to stay 4 days but cut it to 3 because it was getting too expensive to eat 3 meals out, minimum, everyday. The room was very basic - no chair or table or place to hang or put down clothes -just a suitcase rack.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The owners were so lovely! Very helpful and friendly. The room was fantastic given how little we paid. All the basics are there and in great condition!
Cons: Shower was very cold when I had one (not sure if this is the same for everyone)
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Good location, pretty quiet in an alley. (The entrance can be a bit hard to find at first, but the shopkeepers helped us a bit.) Good value for money. Nice owners, who speak good English.
Cons: It is value for money, so don't expect luxury. But everything was there, and clean. But, we could have used a reading/night light in the room. And we could have used a fan to get the warmth out in the evening.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Stuff was very friendly and helpful. Everything was clean. Bed was very comfortable. Nice common area outside with hammocks and a large table with chairs. Location was good.
Cons: The only thing we didn’t like was that it was very hard to find since there is no sign outside and we passed by multiple times trying to find it.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Simple rooms, perfectly clean, good value for money
3.3 Mediocre
Cons: We’ve encountered bedbugs here in 2 different rooms. The owner handled things very badly, instead of apologising for the situation he denied his responsibility and blamed us for bringing them in [in an incredibly rude manner]! I’m traveling with my 5 year old son and dealing with the itchy bites will be terrible. Since ALL our stays in other hotels have been trouble free I can certainly not recommend this place.
4.6 Okay
Pros: The staff were kind and convenient because they could use English. The price is cheap.
Cons: I saw a cockroach. There was no warm water. The kitchen is not clean. The room is small.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The most happy friendly staff you will ever meet :). Location is perfect just off the main road but still quiet. Free glass of water or cheap bottle refill. Environmentally friendly! Clean. No need for aircon because panajachel never gets too hot. Would definitely stay again.
Cons: Nothing.
Hotel El Sol - Panajachel - Building

Overview Reviews
Located in Panajachel, Hotel El Sol is in the mountains, within a 5-minute drive of Church of Saint Francis and Panajachel Municipal Market. Featured amenities include luggage storage and laundry facilities. Free self parking is available onsite.
7.5 Good
Pros: Clean and comfy in a quiet location Helpful staff Reasonably priced food General store just across the road for snacks
Cons: A little far out of town for me but great for those who want a dose of peace and quiet. I didn’t find it particularly social but that may have been timing Dorm WiFi off and on but downstairs good:)
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Very clean with great facilities. Lots of room, the dorms are separated into private curtained sections with your own bed, table, chair and charging points. The Bathroom and showers are very clean and function well. Nice outdoor area to eat/smoke in and free tea and coffee all day. It's in an area 10-15 mins walk from the main tourist area which is safe and friendly. Wifi is excellent.
Cons: lacking a little atmosphere.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Friendly welcoming staff, secure property. Comfortable large room with real hot water (not a sketchy lightbulb in the shower). They give fresh towels everyday, were happy to offer advice on getting around and even had some old bikes you can borrow for free!
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Ultra-clean throughout, dormitory had curtains leaving each person a massive amount of space with a desk and a table light as well as your bed - wonderful it was! Free coffee, nice hot shower - nothing not to like!
Cons: A little bit far out of the centre... but I'm always on for a walk... and centre of town a bit lively for what I was after from this stay...
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Good value if you are traveling on a budget. The place is really clean!
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Free tea and coffee Immaculately clean Dormitory split into areas - and mine was massive! You drew a curtain across and essentially had a small room with desk, chair and comfortable bed - single room facilities at (cheap) dormitory price - chuffed with that! Lovely hot shower - what's not to like?!
Cons: A little bit far from centre of town - but did mean it was quiet... and not an issue if you are not obsessed with walking everywhere! An argument that good to be away from the action in Pana
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Súper clean, best shower I have ever had in a hostel. Lockers are available. Comfortable bed, but really need new pillows. Breakfast was all I had. It was great and reasonably priced. A bit out of the tourist zone, but it isn’t a thirty minute walk to anywhere in Pana. I will definitely book here in the future. It is a good value.
Cons: None for me
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Fantastic hostel - great owner and staff, super clean, cozy, quiet and best of all: mosquito nets on all windows! It was the only hostel I stayed in Central America where I had no issues whatsoever with mosquitoes and was able to sleep incredibly well. Dorm is spacious, with tables and curtains for privacy. Good wifi and hot shower. Hostel offers reasonably priced Japanese food, laundry and even printing/copy services. You'll get a good deal on paragliding too!
Cons: As stated in other reviews, the only downside is location. Still, it's just a Q5 tuk-tuk ride or a 10~15 minutes walk, no big deal.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Hotel So Sol. The owners were very accommodating and had an answer to any question we asked, often anticipating us. While we only ate breakfast there, it was always excellent. We took tuk-tuks to go into the center of town. While we found Panajachel to be rather noisy, we enjoyed ourselves tremendously.
Cons: While the beds were pretty comfortable, the sheets always came loose during the night.

7.1 Good
Pros: Nice hotel in Pana.
Cons: They charge for coffee in the morning! I can’t remember a hotel charging for coffee outside of the US. Seems small minded to me.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Staff very polite and helpful Had forgotten a shawl in the dining room. Called from another hotel and they had found it and consigned it in the hotel notebook. Asked that they keep it until our return and, sure enough, when we got to reception, the attendant checked it out from the notebook and promptly retrieved the shawl.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: It was very clean, friendly staff, good laundry service. Excellent hotel. Value for money. Highly recommended.
Cons: There was nothing I didn't like about this hotel.

Pros: The street at which the hostel is located is great and the lake with the beautiful view is awesome
Cons: Very noisy
7.0 Good
Pros: Great location, friendly staff, lots of activities, free coffee and filtered water, big private room
Cons: Really, really loud all night. Not just because of the central location but also because of the doorbell going off at all hours heard loudly from our room, guests coming/going and yelling in the hallways all night...walls are super thin, can hear all conversations. I was expecting a "party hostel" but figured it would eventually calm down in the night and we'd be able to get sleep but this did not happen. Beds uncomfortable. No fan in the room.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Comfy living room, nice staff, good location near the lake.
Cons: The room window next to the bathroom and common area, which means very noisy. The light in room is weak.
5.0 Okay
Pros: Nice location Good view Great balcony
Cons: No bathroom in private room No water in building or town so toilets were disgusting, no possibility of shower or even hand washing
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Such a fun place to stay - everyone was extremely friendly and if you enjoy party culture or not you will enjoy your stay. Mingling at hotel bar until 10pm when they move the party to other bars so people who want to sleep can! Bring ear plugs anyway, the dogs in town will keep you up
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Great atmosphere and location
Cons: You have to pay for towels
10.0 Excellent

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great views of the lake. The staff was very friendly and professional. The location couldn’t be better
Cons: Nothing
7.9 Good
Pros: The location of the hotel is excellent with easy access to restaurants and the boat dock to take day trips to the towns around the lake.
Cons: The restaurant is very expensive for what you get, especially for breakfast. For the price of the room they could include the basic ammenities like shampoo, lotion, etc they only provide soap from a dispenser. Also no tea or coffee machine in the room. We requested one of the rooms to be a king bed when doing the reservation, upon arrival they informed us it was not possible.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: comfortable beds, location, restaurant has a great view, staff are helpful
7.9 Good
Pros: The view across Lake Atitlan can not be beaten, the hotel was well situated, allowing easy access to the lake and the interesting towns elsewhere around the shores. The rooms were comfortable and spacious and ours opened onto a narrow but well kept strip of garden. This was on a raised level overlooking the beautiful lake. The bathroom was a little small and dark but functional. The staff in reception were very good and helpful, particularly in assisting with transfers to and from hotel and arranging a tour of the small towns on the other side of the lake.
Cons: The food was quite good in the restaurant but the hotel does cater for large tour groups, something we prefer to avoid. Not sure about security, particularly in the restaurant. Panajachel is over touristy and in retrospect I would not have chosen it as a place to stay, however I would definitely recommend Lake Atitlan as a place to visit.
5.0 Okay
Pros: the location of the hotel and the museum
Cons: they did not honor their reservation they try to move us to another facility. This is the second time they sell our room.
10.0 Excellent

8.8 Excellent
Pros: Location, views staff and secure parking.
Cons: Room was slightly dark without view but we didn’t need that.

7.1 Good
Pros: The location is good and the staff was very friendly. They have a parrot.
Cons: Paid for queensize bed and was given a double. The room was also very small. It took some effort to shut the curtains properly. While breakfast is included, it's a single serving and a limited amount of food.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast was excellent. Host Francisco was welcoming. Close to Lake.Decor was comfortable. Paco the parrot was fun. Small number of rooms. Shuttle arranged to Guatemala City and Antigua plus across Lake. Also tours to other locations was very helpful. View of Lake in morning before clouds appeared.
Cons: Much noise from barking dogs and people at night. The host offered to move us to a quieter room but we liked the view from the 4th floor.

A roundtrip airport shuttle is provided for a surcharge (available 24 hours), and free self parking is available onsite.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: What a delight! A friend recommended Casa Palopo to me, and it was the best! I stayed for three nights and was so sad to leave. Carmen and her team out do themselves to make guests feel welcomed and comfortable to enjoy their stay. They arranged transportation for me - both from the airport to Casa Palopo and to a hotel in Antigua, after my stay. Wilson, my driver, was great - always checking in on the temperature of the auto, the speed he was driving, if I needed to stop, etc. Casa Palopo also arranged a private boat tour for me - I loved visiting San Juan. Santiago was an interesting stop, but not as quaint as San Juan. The food and drinks were delicious - I ate almost every meal at Casa Palopo. I loved how when I was enjoying the lake views during my meal, my room would either be cleaned/made up for the day or prepared for the evening with the shades drawn and the bed turned down. One afternoon, the power went out for a few hours and the staff had candles spread throughout my room to ensure there would be light as the sunset. It was truly magical looking! I love the hotel's aim to be sustainable - from providing filtered water in a reusable carafe in the room to using stainless steel straws with drinks. A great next step might be to switch from small bottles of shampoo, conditioner, lotion to larger bottles that can be refilled.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Homey feel while still being luxurious and the staff are so kind
9.2 Excellent
Pros: The location leaves you amazed. The decor of hotel is beautiful. We particularly liked the upper house rooms with your own pool area.
Cons: Not so much anything to dislike, but they will need to carry out maintenance to pool area soon. It’s starting to show it’s age.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: The property was very quaint and pretty The view of Lake Atitlán was breathtakingly beautiful The room was so cute with lots of personal touches and the Dyson hairdryer was a nice surprise The watermelon and hibiscus welcome drink was delicious
Cons: The food served at the restaurant wasn’t great and a bit pricey. Don’t order the ravioli, it was horrible.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Everything. View, facilities, room, etc.
Cons: Prices on the restaurant are way too expensive for what they serve. Food is good, but the price is not justified.

7.9 Good
Pros: The hotel had nice grounds and pool and was very central
Cons: The first bedroom had black wet mould along the back wall which the bed was against .I was given another room .In this one the fan did not seem to work and the room was not as nice as the 1st room 3rd bedroom I was given was very nice but I had to stand on the bed on my tip toes and I am fairly tall to turn on the fan on the ceiling . There was no switch to turn on the wall fan only a short cord . However when you turned the lights out the fan went off . They did not want 5he fans to be used

8.8 Excellent
Pros: Very clean, spacious rooms with beautiful views of the lake. Lovely grounds and restaurant. Excellent location by the lake and close to everything.
Cons: The pillows were too hard, no safe in all the rooms and they don't give you much in the way of toiletries. The lounge chairs by the pool could have been cleaner and the gym was quite dirty. They charge a bit much for what you get considering this is Guatemala and breakfast is not included unless you purchase the all-inclusive plan which I wasn't aware of. Prices in the restaurant are high. Also, the website says they have an airport shuttle service; however, when I requested a shuttle pickup I was told they don't provide this service.
7.1 Good
Pros: Change de roug, change de elevator, in general to old
9.2 Excellent

Pros: Beautiful views of the lake, spacious bathroom, comfortable beds, big table to put all your stuff on, great location that was close to restaurants, shops and the docks.
Cons: It got pretty noisy on a Saturday night because of the party that was going on outside. Also, it's a slightly older hotel and we could only find one electrical outlet in the bedroom to plug our phones and cameras in. Other than that, it was pretty great.

Featured amenities include complimentary wired Internet access, a business center, and complimentary newspapers in the lobby. 7.9 Good
Pros: I liked the location, the beautiful gardens, the lake, the proximity to art and craft shops, restaurants and other places of interest. The food in the restaurant, including breakfast, is good.
Cons: The walls are thin, so noise from adjacent rooms and the corridor as well as vehicles making deliveries early in the morning can be very disturbing. There are windows in rooms of this hotel (comprising two floors) that are of clear glass. If the blinds that shut out all light are not lowered, the white sheer curtains do little to provide privacy. There is no telephone in the room to contact the front desk staff in case of emergency or even to ask a question. The WiFi was not reliable from the second floor where my room was located.
10.0 Excellent

Cons: The view of the Lake is amazing

Pros: This place is a great value option in Panajachel. The room was very clean and comfortable. The owner speaks excellent English and everyone was very kind. I actually made a mistake with my booking and booked for a day before I actually intended, they still honoured my reservation without any extra charge. I'd definitely stay here again if I return to Pana.

Pros: The staff was very friendly and accommodating. Price is super affordable and we were able to get a room at the last minute due to our choice to be spontaneous this trip. Also, the animals and outside decor are very charming.
Cons: Bed was very firm, walls are paper thin (so thin we could hear our neighbor snoring), shower could have been cleaned better and the roosters woke us up at 4 am (earplugs didn’t help).

Pros: Beds comfortable, spotless clean and a great location. Very efficient staff.
Cons: Lower level room number 4 lacks privacy as it is in the reception area..get room on top level if you can.

Pros: Very comfortable bed.
Cons: Seems to be noisy up to 9pm at night then very quiet. On lower level chairs in front of your room seem to be confused with reception furniture and you will find someone sitting in front of your room in your chairs. You will have no place to sit outside.
