I like the fact the beds are away from the busy hall. the decor of the hotel; a little boring
Staff was immediately attentive to any need; bathroom was large, with a great shower and free-standing sink; room was quiet; view of S.F. was lovely. Hotel initially lost Booking.com reservation but corrected this when I called to reserve confirmation three weeks ahead and faxed copy of booking.com confirmation. Initial problems with room (phone that didn't work, no blow dryer) very quickly corrected.
Beautiful room Concierge Club not well serviced during the evening drinks
Great location, beautiful hotel, very comfortable and large rooms.
Everyone was really helpful
The room on the 23rd floor that included breakfast. Overall the staff could have been more customer friendly. The seating process for Thanksgiving dinner was very disorganized although we made reservations several days before. The Anzu staff had difficultly accommodating the number of diners. It was extremely noisy. Club Lounge should vary the appetizers instead of the same each night.
We stayed in an Imperial Club Room which was like a suite and means I would expect the comfort and luxury we got for the price we paid. My reviews are totally based on this and obviously if you stayed in a normal room you will have a different experience. Extra things are included when you pay for an Imperial Club Room. We also requested a quiet room if possible so were high up and had no issues with noise (this was based on previous reviews where people had issues with noise). The shower could have been a bit more powerful but was okay.
The location No.
Convenient location, easy access to transport and shopping areas I was unable to check in until 15.00 hrs. even though I informed the hotel that I arrived after a 10-hour trip to Japan
Got a corner room in the tower so the view of S.F. was spectacular. Room was small but very comfortable. Address of the hotel is misleading to those who drive as there is no entrance at the address. Finding the car entrance took seven block detour.
Location Old room, not very clean, no fridge or frigobar in the room, old carpet, smell old
Location Air temperature is controlled by the front desk. You will need to call them to adjust (really, are we in the 1970s???)-unbelievable). The air condition smelled like mildew and gave me a headache the following day. My roommate kept coughing the whole night which we suspect was due to the mildew coming out of the A/C vent. Bathroom floor was not cleaned. Found gross hair (and other too gross to mention) on the floor. Corners underneath the sink have dust balls. the bathroom toilet plastic seat was burned that it looked like you poured acid on it. I cannot believe they have not replaced it. The electric plug in the bathroom is not secured and about to fall off, the hair dryer would not turn on because of the faulty plug. (Again, really????) So disappointing as when I think of Hilton, I think safe, clean and decent...not the SF union square. Front desk was very unfriendly. No welcome or "enjoy your stay" greeting. He couldn't find our reservation. When I showed him the confirmation number, he gave me the look and said "oh that's hotel.com's"...whatever that meant. As if he was treating us 3rd class as we had not booked it directly with them. After a few minutes, he finally found our reservation. Again, very unpleasant.
The bed was comfortable, the cleaning girl was very nice and helpful. The hotel was much overpriced to begin with and as we checked in, we were encouraged to upgrade for an extra $70 per night for something that didn't seem like an upgrade. The room itself was not luxurious by any means. We felt that it could get away with anything because it was right downtown. The long lines for both check in and the "continental breakfast" were not convenient.
The room was clean and modern and quiet The A.C. Barely worked the room was at 75 when we walked in and barely goth to 69 by 3am. The bathroom doors didn't close all the way and the lock didn't work, no vent fan.
The funnels of it all great people great staff and an all around great time with everything that was offered to me that's all
Clean, decent amenities. Staff was friendly Arrived early before check in. Said I would get a text when room was ready. 3 hrs later I walk up to desk and my room had been ready for over 2 hrs. When I asked about my text they just said "sorry about that". I kinda thought it was a weak response. Then I get a text asking for feedback so far and I relay the check in issue and the horrible pillows we had and again I just get "sorry" with out any offer to make it better.
The hotel was clean and upgraded. The A/C in my room was broken and it took about 3 hours for someone to come in and fix it. The room was stuffy and hot. We left to go get a bite to eat and returned to find out that they had not fixed it nor were we getting another room. Just off of the staff interaction I most likely would not return.
I loved the coffee shop/store on the lobby level. Being able to purchase cold drinks and snacks, and even fresh sandwiches or pizza was a great surprise. The coffee was excellent in the morning. I landed, completely sleep deprived, at what my body thought was 1am. Maybe that's why I had such an adverse reaction to a very lively bar whose sounds echoed through the entire lobby. In fact, it seemed to take up the entire lobby as it spilled into seating that i had to walk through to get to registration. I could hardly hear the staff member trying to check me in.
Staff was friendly Room was not that clean. Starbucks in lobby closed to soon. Had to hike to tower 3 to get to pool, not worth it. Do not stay in any rooms overlooking the parking garage. Seems like that's where the party's are. It was so loud. People screaming from the street. Hopefully I will not have to stay here again for work.
Five minutes upon entering our room , there was another couple who entered. Apparently , the front desk assigned the same room and key card to different guests. After 15 minutes a guard came , checked the situation and assured me that everything was taken cared off. We went out to have dinner but when we came back we couldn't enter our room . I checked with the front desk and said the key card was de activated. We were never informed of such
I booked a double room but was given a single.
My room was quite dirty, the toilet seat had something nasty in it, the table had years of dust, crumbs and scum under it. Our sheets had holes in them. Overall was very nice, most people were obviously there on business so I felt out of place not In a suit .
Loved the location and hotel's history. When I checked in, room they assigned me to wasn't serviced. Called the front desk multiple times and had to wait 30 plus minutes before waiving down a manger to help me. Then proceeded to wait another 29 min to find a room that was cleaned.
Great location Customer service was great Amenities could be better Rooms and bathrooms are a bit small
The hotel has lost its luster...beds were uncomfortable....toilet leaked....no water in rooms....grubby panhandler approached us while we sat at lobby coffee bar....not surprising since every time we went out the front door the doormen were either talking or texting n cell phones off to the side...I gave stayed there on and off for over 20 years...it's a shame but I will likely stay elsewhere going forward
Inmaculate beautiful building with lots of history, great location, really enjoy the stay
Proximity to Union Square Rooms / noise. You can hear your neighbors' every word, toilets, etc. The doors slam shut SO very hard, that they will jar you from the heaviest sleep. Lots of late night parties on the 11th floor.
Great location right downtown sf. Close to restaurants and bars, great front desk staff and cleaning staff Parking fees are outrageous, rude service desk, very small rooms, can hear every word from the other guests rooms
My room's window faced a brick wall and got absolutely no sunlight. I felt like we were in a dungeon. I couldn't tell what time of day it was, kind of like that feeling you get when you are in a Vegas Casino. We didn't get in until after midnight when we arrived, so I was more interested in getting some sleep than complaining. But I was really disappointed.
Wonderful location. Beautiful building Very busy hotel . Check in lines are long.
Check In was great. Very nice staff. Rewarded us for returning for a third time in two years by giving us (2) complimentary drink coupons. Valet was $58/night + Tax. Took over 30 mins to get car out of lot when checking out. Mini bar in room was half empty and had empty bottles, a milkshake cup and food wrappers inside.
The location is a big draw and it is a known entity in San Francisco. It met expectations. We stayed in the Tower. The room was big and the furnishings adequate, but not what I expected from a hotel of this caliber. Somewhat dated. Also, hallways are dark and below what one would expect from a hotel like this. I could've paid $100 more and stayed at the Fairmont, and it would've been worth it!
The location, helpful and friendly staff, nice size rooms N/a
The view is amazing in the linens were very comfortable Valet parking is a bit steep in price
Wonderful time here no bad experiences Totally preference but the beds are too soft and frankly the food is over priced for the quality. It's clear the food has not been under a real chefs direction for a while but these are relatively minor complaints
I originally was trying to book this hotel via the QANTAS website however they had problems, so I rang the hotel direct and they were most helpful. Not only did they book me in, but they beat the original price and converted it for me to $AUD for my small brain. I drove to SFO from LAX - on arrival bell hop service was excellent, didn't miss any bags or jackets that were in my car. Stayed in the main building - Fairmont Queen room Clean and tidy Free WiFi BathTub Excellent staff Late checkout Food selection and room service Tonga room is a must see Location very central to anywhere you'd like to be in SFO The main building although grand, is a little dated. The refurbished rooms are good, but the particular room I was in the door didn't fully open because the wall gets in the way, so for room service the trolley couldn't be wheeled in, food had to be carried in from the door, and there wasn't really any table to put the food on, only the writing desk or the fold out mini bar. I had to call for slippers
The fairmont has maintained the old style luxury without cutting corners. Fantastic staff, location and NO TOUR BUSSES!!
Perfection... However, I was very surprised that the ice maker on our floor did not work, and there was a chocolate wrapper on a table by the elevator for our three day stay??? With all that opulence, did not get that???
Reputation was indeed lived up to ...better than I expected Cost of overnight parking
View, room, service
Comfortable beds. Great location. Nice staff. Beautiful decor. Poor soundproofing- we could hear everything next door. $65 parking and $14 wifi. "Courtyard view" misrepresents the huge noisy cooling type towers. Breakfast was 1 1/2 hour late. Dinner in the restaurant was loud and only mediocre.
Room was large & I only had a queen. Bed, pillows & sheets all very good. Hotel is dated but some would call that charming. My robe had stains on it.
Location Parking at $65 a nite is outrageous There were no blankets in the room so I asked for some they came an hour later. I had to call 3 times to get service. Wifi was $14 a day not free. Coffee in the room was poor. U would think they could provide quality coffee. Paper was delivered to some rooms but not ours
Very luxurious and clean. The staff was friendly and helpful, especially the management. When things went wrong, they were accommodating to benefit me for the inconveniences. Upon checking in, they didn't have our room available until the next day. Not sure how that even happens, but after talking to the manager, he miraculously was able to get our room. I had an allergic reaction to the laundry detergent they use on the bed sheets and my eyes swelled up. I was told that if you have allergies, you need to call in advance to make sure they wash the bedding with hyper-allergenic detergent (they normally use Dawn). For the inconveniences, they did comp me my room service.
The staff was both professional and warm. The room was immaculate, the view breathtaking, and the beds are phenomenally comfortable. A truly memorable stay. If you are looking for something sleek and modern this is not your hotel. Food and drinks in the hotel itself are not good value, especially given the wealth of foodie options in SF.
Very comfortable bed. Free wifi. Good gym. Very friendly staff and they sell oddities water for $1 a bottle. A little bit dated interior
The location and our room size No complaints
Mood Took too long to check-in
Nice location Slow service from check in to check out Uncomfortable beds (pillows were worn flat, requested new ones and got two more flat/worn out pillows) Towel was dirty (not stained--it had actual chips of dirt on it) slow wifi Very low quality food
Liked the location and how nicely appointed the hotel was
Window view was loud but nice, room was clean and service was very good. Nice location. Jeffery was a great bartender showing professionalism with an intoxicated female needing assistance at the bar Urban tax fee is a shady charge that was not explained at check in, The fee is for bike rental and internet, yet the Wi fi was listed as free and you would be insane to ride a bike down the hills. I had to argue to get it removed.
The location is wonderful, the bed was good No one answered the valet parking phone three days in a row. No room service. A beer glass sat in the hallway for two days without being picked up. Kitschy "hipster" feel.
Friendly staff, great location (walking distance to most attractions), comfy beds and updated overall. Needed spa after some gruelling walks (need to be fit to get around) or simply jump on cable cars outside hotel ;). Although We found city pricy, hotel food offerings were excessive to say the least (no room service either?)Management has to know within walking distance are some great options for meals that are easier on your wallet.
While the yellow carpet in the halls is a bit dated and worn, the rest of the Stanford court is updated, quirky, and fun. The staff is great, and the location is only half a block from the top of nob hill. Great weekend escape.
I liked the lady at check in helping resolve an issue with billing. Somehow, the hotel reservations people decided I should pay for an extra night when I had cancelled that night the previous week. The lady at check in was very helpful and was able to resolve the issue, but I was disappointed I had the issue in the first place. It was not clear to me why this happened. The room was nice - but quite expensive in my opinion.
Steve, one of the staff members, was very friendly and helpful. Aside from that, nothing. Nearly everything. The rest of the staff seemed unimpressed with the hotel themselves and in fact mocked the hotel for intentionally using "false advertising" to lure customers into staying there. Upon arriving we received a "complimentary upgrade," which off the batt seemed wonderful, but once we entered the room we were appalled; we couldn't even imagine what our original room would have looked like. When I called down to complain about the striking difference from the pictures on the website the woman at the front desk replied that what I saw online was called "photoshop." The room was spacious, but empty; there was no headboard, safe or amenities. The hotel offered nothing, but rooms and was not the kind of place you looked forward to returning to at the end of a long day. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone and I would never return myself. For a couple hundred dollars more I could have stayed at the nicest hotel in San Francisco. This hardly ranks with the top hotels in the city, despite its high prices and false four star advertising online.
Location Mandatory "urban bundle fee" of $20+ per night, even if you don't use or want the services. Housekeeping was bad -- there was a half full highball glass in the hallway outside our room for our entire stay. When we arrived on a December evening the room temperature was set to 54 degrees with cold air blasting in. Overall not a friendly or welcoming environment, unfortunately.
The location was very convienent. I chose to park down the street and save $30 for over night parking. Nice pillows and comfy bed. This hotel is really small the room was giving me an allegric reactions I could not breath, until we forced the window open. The shower curtain and shower smelled really bad. That was gross. I will not be staying here again.
Superb location right in the heart of San Francisco's Union Square area, excellent restaurants and shopping nearby. Beautifully decorated room that was quiet and serene. Standard room king was quite small. No room for more than a couple.
The room and hallways where dark, the bathrooms are in bad shape (old and rusty), the tv was small and didn't have on demand. It used to be THE PLACE TO STAY in SF... Not anymore...needs a remodel urgently.
Expensive mini bar, breakfast etc
Room was nothing special the lobby and bar were cool The room was was average and bathroom was very old decore
The staff and location were both excellent, the bar is also fun (and the reason I knew about the hotel to begin with). There sure are a lot of interesting chairs around! Room service was prompt and the food was tasty. The bed is comfortable and the rooms have pretty good noise control. The rooms are in dire need of updating. We stayed in a studio so the size was good, but things just seemed old. The walls needed touch up paint, the bathtub was peeling (about a 10'' section was missing plaster), the grout was stained, the hair dryer must be from 1985, the thermostat is old making it hard to control room temperature, the faucet was probably really awesome 20 years ago, but now it is difficult to get it in the "off" position, not good in a state experiencing a drought.
Classy Good room service food Hidden cost for valet parking - $52 a night Hidden cost for a 50 cent aux cord - $100 deposit Hidden cost for more than 5 glasses ordered for guests House keeping failed to clean my room one day when I called them before leaving for the day specifically asking them to tidy up No Hot tub or pool
I loved the large room! The space was great. Loved the airy feel.
Great food, staff and service. Valet took a little long.
Old & tired Tired
Great vibe in the hotel bar. Room service was slow, found a hair in my food, ordered a Coke three times and never got it, was provided with only a comforter and fitted sheet on my bed, food wasn't very good.
The bed was very comfortable. The room was dark with the curtains pulled closed. I stayed at the Clift this past weekend with my wife for a "staycation" away from the Oakland grind we call our normal lives. A few concerns with the Clift Hotel. When we arrived we were unsure about how the valet worked since there are no signs or "red jackets" (they wear black). We had to circle the block and call to find out what the deal was. It's also expensive, $52+ tax per night. Once we were in the Hotel we were told that our room wasn't ready, which was completely fine since we arrived 3 hours prior to check in time. We happily checked our bag and went for a stroll around union square. The problem is that the woman at the counter said we should expect a phone call with in the hour when our room was ready. We waited the hour and then another hour. No call. We then returned to the Hotel at 3pm and were told by the same women that it "should be ready within the hour."This would take us up to check in time...Finally at 4pm we complained and a manager upgraded us to a Jr. Suite and promptly gave us the keys. Sales Training: under promise and over deliver, not the other way around. Finally we arrive in our room and its pretty nice. It was on the 15th floor and the view was pretty urban SF high life. We were happy. The tub and painted surfaces were chipping and sup par. apparently this room costs $450+ per night, If I paid that I expect a little more attention to detail and quality. We dined at the Velvet Room, the Hotel's restaurant. We were offered a cold and breezy table next to the hallway leading to the bar but were happily seated in a lovely booth when we requested that. Dinner was delicious. The Redwood Room, their high shelf bar, is always crowded and all seating is reserved for $350+ bottle service. The common areas are nice, warm, and cozy. The room is three star. The overall experience is ok, we'll try another place next month and report back.
Customer service was outstanding.
The staff was exceptional. ALL of them. Not much. The spa was priced really high so we ended up making other accommodations.
They need to add a salon that has someone there to do hair blow outs for customers staying at the Ritz.
Everyone was amazing! Jonathan the bartender, patrick the bellman, everyone! They made my boyfriends birthday very special. This is the best hotel in SF. Thank you to the entire staff. Nothing because everything was awesome!
All the hotel staff was very friendly, courteous and accomodating. The Wifi at the hotel was very spotty. It was in and out and made it difficult to use my laptop in the room.
The staff was great specially the greeters at the door and baggage handlers Location location location
The room was fantastic and the staff was great.
The staff was wonderful. My granddaughter was able to do her studies while I was in class. She was able to do this while looking out a window at the beautiful scenery thanks to the nice people we met while we ate breakfast. I thought the staff was great along with the great training I had for my business. I would like to stay there again. It was hard to drive to because the roads were being worked on. It took us a little longer to arrive than I had planned.
The views were gorgeous! I wish it had a pool, or at least a hot tub, or steam room. I could hear through the walls...other guests etc. It was noisy.
Convenient location. Beautiful view of San Francisco
The staff were very professional .
Bedding, bed, pillows & nice bathroom. Was after hours & our request for room service was still met. Nothing.
Lovely room with plenty of plugs for laptops, etc. Refrigerator and coffee maker. Room also had separate "dressing table" area AND a full bathroom; perfect for a couple! Parking rates absurd. Found a much cheaper garage on our own.
Most of it is the location and the good value The service was not great very unpersonal
Wine and cheese reception. Location. Room decor.
Location is perfect and room was a good size
Very clean hotel. Comfortable beds, friendly staff. Big spacious rooms. Breakfast was good, wine in the afternoons was a plus. I recommend this hotel to everyone. Overall I loved this hotel and would stay over and over again. Only thing that was a bit of a nuisance was the street noise when the windows were open but it is to be expected. We are in the city.
Comfortable bed; easy to take advantage of sightseeing; walking is convenient; complementary breakfast and afternoon wine and cheese is very satisfying. Noise outside building; very small bathroom; closet inside bathroom; use of bathroom light requires also use of noisy fan.
- location was nice - did a complementary happy hour which was nice - expensive for the amenities and services - no air conditioner, so had to keep windows open which was noisy facing a busy street - uncomfortable bed with only two pillows -mediocre breakfast (not very good pastries) -expensive parking -expensive room occupancy tax
Close to shopping and away from touristy areas like fisherman's wharf.
The staff was friendly and greeted us each time we returned. Happy hour was a nice opportunity to meet other guests and unwind before dinner. The rooms could use some simple updates (ie. New bed spreads)
The room has potential to be a great SF destination. plenty of room. Mini Kitchen stocked with reasonably priced snacks and drinks. The front desk was very helpful and friendly. Wow! The place was noisy. There was a loud group on the street that so loud that I could not sleep. That is the only reason that I did not give excellent reviews for comfort. I called the front desk, but the group never quieted down. And the group was using the N word like Donald Sterling.
Close to all main San Fran attractions. Hotel has no Bar or Dining facilities & the partner 'Pub' the White Horse is a dirty let down.
Great location, lovely hotel, comfortable and clean rooms, friendly staff. Really adds great value to a nice San Francisco holiday. Pretty close to everywhere in downtown as well.
Desk service, cleanliness, wine and cheese, coffee and fruit
Very spacious room, good housekeeping service. Nice common area for breakfast and evening wine (complimentary). Decent location on the edge of the Tenderloin, no problems walking up Post St from Union Square around midnight. Very old carpets, very poor wi-fi connection.
Really enjoy the Huntington. Professional staff and also provided a courtesy upgrade.
the hotel has a relaxed style with the trappings of luxury. Most of the staff were extremely friendly and helpful and made us want to return Some of the check in staff were rather aloof and unhelpful
The staff were exceptional, attention to details superb. The rooms were beautifully appointed. The location of the hotel to the theater district and Union Square is very convenient. I will definitely stay there again.
Loved the charm of the Hotel. Wonderful huge bouquet of Lilly's in the lobby. The staff was knowledgeable and friendly, especially the doorman!! Very informative!! Our room was clean, large and so comfortable. Yes, the windows do open and it is so nice! The location was perfect!
Nice, helpful staff, old world charm, beautiful view from our room in the 6th floor. Nob Hill is not as central as other hotels.
The staff were phenominal! No better way to end the day than to sit down in the lounge and listen to the piano. All around beautiful hotel.
Fantastic as Always
Quality of service provided, location of the hotel & value for money None
The staff is friendly and willing to do anything to make your stay perfect. Room service is fast. Parking valets are always available. The bar/restaurant is a wonderful place to unwind at the end of the day or drop in for a night cap. I love this place.
Fabulous hotel, fabulous location, great staff
We liked the location the most, right at the corner of Union square and a block away from Chinatown, the Hop on/Hop off bus had a few stops around Union square. The staff was always friendly, the fruit and water we received upon arrival and the turn down service every night are also nice touches. Housekeeping was attentive. Upon arrival our room didn't smell really fresh, but couldn't say it was dirty. The windows can be opened however, so you can let fresh air in. The closet space is really small, but we didn't mind taking the clothes out of our suitcases. We thought the room was quite small, but maybe that was because we just came from a hotel suite in Vegas. You could also hear all the street noise (windows closed) and the neighbours easily, it seems the walls are thin. When housekeeping knocked on the door of the room next to us, it sounded like they knocked on our door.
Very clean hotel with an excellent staff.
Very upscale, attentive to guests. There are better values at comparable hotels.
The attention that most of the staff display for you The wait time in the dinning room
Very comfortable room and bed, clean, nice design, excellent service, personnel available and helpful, perfect location right next to Union Square easy access to restaurants, waterfront, shopping, and transportation to the rest of the city I think the hotel can be compared to others of the same level, I did not find a special feeling to it or unique features, however my stay was very pleasant and would consider again
Location is perfect. Room is clean and well decorated. Stuff is nice. No internet in the room and the valet parking is very expensive 57USD.
I loved how the hotel is located in a convenient area; we easily jumped on a cable car to Fishermans Wharf. The staff was professional and helpful. This hotel is a true 5 star luxury hotel. nothing. It was fantastic!
Location, furnishings (wonderfully comfortable beds!), friendly staff
The hotel is very comfortable and the staff is top-notch. Even though the lobby is small that is insignificant since no one goes to a hotel to hang out in the lobby. The beds are very comfortable and the room is turned down every night.
Perfect location, clean, friendly staff, a perfect get away weekend...and as advertised, the best breakfast in town.
Staff was extremely professional and super nice! The hotel was centrally located to everything and the room was really cool! Loved it!!
The staff is very friendly and helpful Poor ventilation in bathroom
A bit cramped but functional
great location. nice staff, excellent service, available communication (internet, phone) The parking is too expensive, and there was no breakfast in the deal
The attention to detail regarding the comfort of the bed, the quality of the bed linens and pillows was evident and appreciated. I slept very well even though my room faced Post Street. The hotel is old and staid. Only so much can be done to mask this fact. I was disappointed and amazed that the "soaking tub" of the room description was in fact just an old bathtub. The continental breakfast included in the club level rate was very adequate, but required going to the dining room, not the 4th floor club level lounge per description.
The game room downstairs is fantastic. The rooms are mod in decor and the beds extremely comfortable. The staff is top notch. The place is just cool.
The staff was amazing. We also had every comfort at our fingertips without any pretentiousness or high prices.
I loved the game room and all of the stylish touches to the room! The color schemes felt good and the staff was very pleasant. I did not like the elevator. Way too small. I also could smell a stinch throughout the hotel like old moth balls. Just being honest. Also, just my opinion, but I think the hotel should offer breakfast. While I do appreciate the espresso in the room (which was delicious), I'd rather have food; if I can't have both.
Daily greetings from the hotel staff. Very helpful concierges. Housekeeping not being stingy with towels. A restaurant on site.
Was very confusing to get around to our room (was in another building) and there were a few scuff marks here and there on the walls and also the remote control had a chip/crack in the back.
We loved this hotel. The game room downstairs was a huge hit with the whole family. The location cannot be beat.
The location of this hotel is great with walking access to the waterfront, Union Square, cable cars, and public transport. The staff was excellent and very attentive. The room was everything we wanted, plus a great view. The restaurant had a good selection. The night club was really fun. We would definitely stay here again.
Nice people. This place would be great, but it need a renovation. It just looks like it hasn't been kept up in some time. Needs some fresh paint and some updates. It's in an area that not much is going on also
Location is good, close to everything I booked this reservation months in advance for a large group, and still, upon check-in there was alot of miscommunication and confusion about the reservation (how many rooms, names on the reservation, etc). Staff was not warm or particularly helpful at all, there was an obvious lack of hospitably and willingness to help that you receive at most hotels. The hotel itself is average, its very old and outdated inside, the walls are thin so u hear conversations next door, and the rooms are small. There were very limited hours for the restaurant/lounge downstairs, and overall was just someolace you'd go to sleep and thats it. It really was just ok. Many other hotels in the area that offered more for the price. I wouldnt stay there again.
Decent location, nice hotel. Don't like the weekend charge for "top of the mark" tourist trap.
Room service was good, bed, pillows & frette Sheets were excellent. Dark bathroom, dated room in general...for the money I prefer the Fairmont.
A great location and views A little pricey
Great place to stay if you want to be treated like royalty at a very reasonable price. We highly recommend staying here and also having drinks at the Top of the Mark. Excellent views of the "city by the bay" and the music and service is awesome! Do yourself a favor and stay here. We do every year for almost 20 years. You won't regret it!
Historic Great location Staff was super friendly and helpful especially the valet Noise level in the rooms. Windows do not block out the noise from the streets so you can hear Grace Cathedral bells and the cable cars which is great but also the loud drunks in the middle of the night as well.
Staff was considerate and helpful in every way. Food in the Nob Hill Club was excellent. Great views from Top of the Mark. Furniture in lobby needs cleaning or reupholstering. Looks dated. Bathroom was small and dark. I was there 5 days and one of the elevators was out of service for 3 of those days.
Comfortable room and good location. Noise level was fine despite being on the same street as the cable car. A bit run down in appearance and small old elevators. Poor customer service upon check. We were given a hard sale to sign up for hotel program upon arrival.
Great location, cool decor, friendly staff It's older and in a loud area, elevator was creepy
Loved the boutique vibe that the hotel has, it seems SF is lacking modern hotels that are similar to the Ace and plentiful of tacky hotels. The decor is very minimal, with concrete floors- it feels similar to a loft you would want to live in. The restaurant downstairs had a really great brunch and the staff were very friendly. The actual location is pretty central, so it's not that difficult to leave the touristy area of Union Square. There wasn't a mention of the $45 (plus tax) for the valet. So that got a bit expensive. You also have to call 30 minutes ahead. The shower is also a lukewarm temperature. And a bit difficult to work with it being stuck.
Great location, modern decor, and cozy spot to relax in! Our new favorite hotel!!!
I've stayed at this property several times and it's convenient and a great property. My room had a moldy smell that got worse over the two nights I stayed -- I haven't had this experience at a Monaco before ....
Use the jaccuzzi, would have used the restaurant but it was too pricey. The people there seemed a bit stuffy, including the staff. When I asked a question it was like I was putting them out.
It nicely located near Union Square. The staff were very helpful. The hotel was clean and well kept. Our room was very nice except no view but that was ok. The hotel has complementary bikes for guest to use (great way to get around the city). Very comfortable place to stay. Would stay there again.
This hotel is well-located -- easy to walk to Union Square and Chinatown, walkable to the waterfront/Embarcadero, and a quick drive to the Mission, Golden Gate Park, etc. The staff could not be more pleasant and helpful. The lobby area is a nice place to lounge, and the rooms are comfortable. It would be really helpful to have coffee makers in the room or room service -- there is coffee in the lobby, but if you are traveling with kids or have an early morning, it is useful to have it in your room. I didn't care for the fact that the water bottles in the room had price tags. It would also be nice if the wine service rotated wines.
The decor was cute, and the room cleanliness we immaculate. Hotel rooms in San Francisco are pretty small, and this is no exception. However, the reception area was luxurious and beautiful, perfect during their evening wine receptions. I could go on about the wonderful staff- really, all of them acted like they were my friends, excited to tell me all about the good shopping, eating, et nearby that I HAD to try ; ) They were right too!
Great hotel - feels very luxurious, good staff, and complementary wine hour! Highly recommended. Our second visit and we'll definitely stay there again when in SF. Rooms could be larger. Area - although only a couple of blocks from Union Square - gets more edgy late at night, but that's how San Francisco works.
Doggy Birthday Party Oliver's 3rd birthday. Benefit for animals that assist. Great get together. My toilet clogged the 1st night. very uncomfortable sitiutation. I am not a large person. (get my drift). so it wasnt anything that should have caused a problem.
Location. Rooms were clean. Rooms small, older building, odd furnishings, no views. San Francisco has many great hotels but this is not one of them.
The staff really was fantastic and pretty much bent over backwards to accomodate us in almost anyway possible. Plus I learned after the fact they are really pet friendly. Thats good to remember for the future. When I booked through booking.com the description said that the room I was booking would have a jacuzzi tub. I was going on a romantic get away and booked this room for this price becaue I thought it would have a jacuzzi tub. The room was beautiful, but no jacuzzi tub and the bathroom was a bit small at that.
Hotel Monaco used to be one of my fav hotels in SF. This new Marker is horrible. They closed the spa, breakfast is extra charge. Parking costs 58 dollars. Short on staff to take phone calls. Take your business somewhere else.
The staff were very nice and helpful. The room was clean and the rooms style was not bad. The hotel is close to union square and great area to walk around. The decor pillows on our bed were dirty. My bathroom shower towel was only changed once during my four night stay. I found the restaurant prices high and the waiters were not so nice.
Location and decor.
Last minute booking. Great price! Pretty extraordinary. Prime location!
Loved that we could open our window and climb onto the fire escape for a great view. The room was very clean and comfortable. Anything you could want was available. Walking downstairs to the bar/restaurant inside the hotel was a convenience as well. Being in the heart of the Union Square was amazing. Super easy travel to wherever we wanted to go since the trolly stop was 1 block away. Did not like the time it took for valet to bring the vehicle around (roughly 20-25 minutes). We understood the traffic in that area caused delays but it was my only complaint.
Staff very nice and professional Rooms are just too small especially for price.
It was a very nice family hotel with an interesting history. Well located right off Union Square. The hotel staff were all very nice. Though we didn't take advantage of them, the bar and restaurant both seemed nice. The weather was cool and the hotel had the boiler running. Our room must have been 80 degrees and no way to shut the heat off. We were on the top floor and the hotel staff offered to move us to a lower (cooler) room. The second floor room was just as warm. The rooms really need local control of temperature.
Reasonably priced, friendly and accommodating staff, coffee/tea available 24/7. Great wifi, mini fridge in room. Great water pressure. They updated all the right things. Coffee maker/microwave in room would have been an improvement, but not a sticking point. The service at Luques can be slow, but the food is good.
Great location for shopping and restaurants. Friendly, welcoming and helpful staff. Complimentary coffee/tea, cookies, fruit, & lemon ice-water in lobby.
Nice historic hotel in a great location. Friendly and informative staff. Room was small but we got one of the rooms on the top floor and the ceiling was about 15 feet high. It made the room seem much larger. There is no A/C in the room but it was comfortable with the ceiling fan and the window open. I liked hearing the sounds of the city in the evening. The city "noise" did quiet down during the night and had no problems sleeping. This hotel was recommended to me by my boss. He stays there every year for a reunion with college friends. I have not problem passing on the recommendation.
Everything was clean and comfortable. The staff was kind and attentive. Location was perfect. Concierge was helpful. Absolutely would stay here again when visiting San Francisco. Breakfast wasn't included, but actually was delicious in the cafe downstairs.
Bedroom was clean, furniture appeared recent. Location was reasonably convenient. Room was claustrophobic - barely room to walk around bed. Paint was fresh, but clearly covering 100 years of obvious wear. Musty smell. No air conditioning - couldn't get room quite cool/dry enough to be comfortable. Bathroom was dingy, marked up and had seen better days, and it was hard to squeeze into toilet between sink and wall, even then, wedged in by shoulder-level toilet paper dispenser. Plumbing noises from adjacent units were loud. Weirdly shaped closet with mismatched hangars that were falling apart.
Great value! Great coffee/tea/water and they extended our checkout by 2 hours to accommodate our plans. Very nice. And BOGO cocktails for a night! Room is small but doable (without children).
Great location, good price, comfortable, professional, courteous staff. We had a room on the top floor, which was clean and quiet, with a ceiling fan rather than AC. Despite typically being a light sleeper, and expecting issues with street noise, I slept better there than I have anywhere in years, not really sure why (could have been the 12+ miles walking each day in wonderful San Francisco). The hotel is in Union Square, with its incredible shopping and conference centers. Chinatown is about .5 miles away (and a very steep hill), and Fisherman's Wharf about 1.5 miles; a fun walk if you're up for it (but Uber is fast an inexpensive, especially the pool option). If you're looking for a plush, modern American experience, this isn't it. If you're looking for an affordable, comfortable, centralized location to explore SF, or attend a business conference, this is a great choice. Rooms are small, no air-conditioning (though not really needed) and there was no real work surface for a notebook. Not a place to get work done. Bathroom was dated, but functional. There's no fitness center in the hotel but you get free use of a health club around the corner with lots of good gear and yoga classes, which were great. There's no coffee in the room, but there's a 24 hour a day brew available in the lobby with cookies I found impossible to resist. Wi-fi is free and fast.
The staff was great. They were very friendly and helpful. The location was also fantastic and the noon check out gave us a little additional time to explore the city without worrying about our bags. I would definitely recommend.
I liked that we were able to find a great place on such short notice. The Manager on Duty, I think her name was Susan, was very helpful after one of the reservation agent accidentally mixed up our checkout time- and another Agent Brandon wasn't very kind to us. I ate most of my meals at the hotel, breakfast lunch and dinner- and I had three different bartender/servers during my stay that were all so very pleasant. Some even gave me directions to buy a hoodie at a nearby store because I didn't realize it would be colder there this time of year still. And the chef made me an awesome salad when I wanted to exchange tuna for chicken on the salad that comes with Lemon Dressing- it was absolutely fantastic. I highly recommend this substitution as the combination of greens and dressing go amazing with Tuna! It will cost you 2 dollars more as Tuna is more expensive (rightfully so) but it I ate the entire thing. I couldn't stop myself. Other than the mixup on our checkout time- I was happy with my stay overall.
Location and friendly staff Parking fee was extremely expensive and there was no free wifi. For the price, wifi should have been included.
Great staff, newly remodeled rooms and location was perfect. Nothing
Close to everything with all the conveniences yet subdued and relaxing. Staff were attentive and available. The restaurant /lounge was a great venue to unwind
Location was very good. Hotel was warm but Luckilly I had a bathroom with window that I could open. It's an old buidling with an old looking furniture, but you that when you make a reservation.
Staff was terrific, room was charming nothing
I liked the friendly staff and location. The shower curtain was too short so the bathroom flor got soaked after every shower.
Comfort, closeness to downtown, cleanliness and kindness of staff
The hotel was very centrally located to everything! Easy walk to restaurants, and Union Square. I wish we had a coffee maker in the room, however coffee was served in the lobby and my request is that they change the time. Serving time was 5am to 7am. Maybe make it later to at least 8am??
Excellent location and very convenient. Great character and charm. Welcoming atmosphere both the staff and the general feel. Nice lobby. The toilet didn't always flush properly. The hot water in the sink did not turn off easily. You may be losing a lot a water if a guest isn't persistent about getting it turned off. We had to wait a long time to check in. Probably our fault for arriving at 2:30 in the afternoon.
Rooms were very clean and maid service was very good. Situated close to all transport and close to China Town which had some great meals. Our room was situated on the street side of the hotel. Whilst initially apprehensive about possible road noise, it was no problem at all and we slept quite well as the bed was extremely comfortable.
Friendly staff, clean room, nice surroundings, quite near to the cable car station The room was very small, but still okay
The reception I received when I got there.
Great location and wonderful staff. There is no heat in the rooms.
A bit noisy, but expected for the location.
Great location Small bathrooms, placement of valet was a bad place
Location, decor, charm of the interior design, Great bed, carpets clean as was the room. Greeting at the door! Valet parking, the up charge is too high. Scala Hostess on 7/11/15 for am was really bussing it out to keep the floor moving, even though business slow (1/4 full). The rest of the staff looked busy when on floor, but not around much. Bar top and more needs refinishing (replaced), a major public area and draw. The bar staff didn't appear engaging; as every customer walking through that main area, needs to receive at best a nod or smile. They were chatting it up with each other. Need more professionalism behind bar. Lighting Bar placed up around ceiling is poor choice, washed out look, good for bring out the natural colors etc. Scala, mediocre at best for am breakfast, the menu was not being followed to the word, missing Verde Sauce, Gruyere was not notable, was it there? There is a white plastic bin with drawers, center stage to the back, really!!! Dust on the table lamp, not wiped completely. The seconds of tiles used in the bathtub area make it look dirty. The pillows are third rate, hard packed fiber, burlap?. Room exterior windows need Washing! Bath Sink is big, great, too big for the worn out ugly. In room, sound travels through the walls from other rooms, you can make out the words. Staff should set clock. Hotel Clock radio needs to be replaced, dated, with old cell charger base.
The location was excellent. Friendly staff with spacious room. Loved the free wine cocktail reception. No jacuzzi
Starlight Room - Top Floor View Old - in bad need of repairs Rooms were tiny Elevators took forever to arrive Service was poor starting with the front desk
Location great, but the noise was unbearable. Single pane window in the city under powel st. The constant early morning whistle of the doorman kept me awake. I had a headache one day and it didn't help having to listen to the door and whistle all morning. The plumbing/pipes screeching sound also constantly woke me up durning the night; which may explain the headache. Hotel is a cute boutique hotel, but the plumbing needs to be repaired & invest in double pane windows to replace the flimsy existing ones.
pillows were horrible
Leaving The room was falling apart noisy and cramped
The Drake has a great location, it's clean and comfy with some traces of old excellence. The Concierge was very helpful with directions and suggestions for meals. Tiny bathroom but then, who comes to San Francisco to hang out in the bathroom?
I lived the location and ambiance of the hotel. Rooms could be upgraded a little bit and thought it was a little pricey.
Very friendly and helpful front desk stuff, bright and clear rooms on 17th floor, dominating San Francisco. Very clean, good accomodations, excellent wifi. Delicious croissants (even for Frenchies that we are!) and excellent pancakes at the Scala restaurant!
It was nice staying here again, it was comfortable and the price is the best for the location. Theyou need more towels in the room and more soap. When we got in there was not any soap to washave your hands and no bath soap.
Location Windows did not open (Fresh air)
Not my favorite bed.
Excellent location, friendly staff and the restaurant inside the hotel. he rooms are large for being in the heart of the city. The parking situation- valet for 40+taxes was high
Location and sercice Internet access no
Very convenient location. Beautiful rooms. Comfortable and friendly Still waiting for a response from check out yesterday. Ordered 2 x $21.00 breakfasts. Gave waitress cash tip - she had no bill as computer down at time. Queried charge of $63.00 total for this meal when we received final account. We paid full amount but check out promised to investigate and advise when we checked out yesterday. No reponse so far.
We liked the cleanliness in the hotel and our room. It was central to many locations. Staff was very accommodating and friendly. The bed and pillows were so comfortable. The drainage in the tub was very slow, but that was the only minus.
Getting upgraded to a suite at no cost. Kind of loud from street noise
Staff was very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was good too--personally I was hoping for stuff like pancakes and eggs. The hotel breakfast was mostly just bread, fruit, and cereal. But it was all really good, so even though it wasn't exactly what I wanted I couldn't complain. Nothing really. Good all around.
Breakfast was better than continental. Staff very helpful. DVD choice a great feature and a laptop in lobby for free internet incl. printing. Large room. All mod cons. A bargain considering breakfast..room decor and location. A gem no!
Hotel's location is very convenient since it is just two blocks ahead union square. The complimentary wi-fi internet was not available most time in the hotel room due to very poor speed, although it was declared as wi-fi free hotel. Not a big deal but it was a bit noisy at nights because of cable cars.
Easy check in, short walk to shopping, restaurants and city life, fairly clean, good service, nice staff. It wasn't worth the "discount rate" of $129. It was a basic room with no bells and whistles.
For a downtown located hotel, the room was surprisingly large. It was clean and well furnished. The noise from street was tolerable. I appreciated the free wifi which worked ok most of the time. Staff was friendly and location is close to everything in SFO. The price seems to be steep but I guess that's typical of SFO. People affected by street noise may not like it.
Excellent location. Good value for price. A bit out-of-date and needs makeover. Bathroom clean and modern. Furniture old. Noisy if room is near Tavern. Breakfast adequate. Lack of AC not an issue most of the year.
The room was big by SF standards. All the staff we encountered were very polite, warm and attentive. They also accommodated my request for a quiet room off the street.they have valet parking and real room keys(when do you see that?).It was a nice old hotel with a very good location.
Central to Union Sq and cable cars. Easy transport very close to all other SF attractions. Very reasonable proce for all day valet parking
Very friendly staff, convenient location and nice area, clean, comfortable, great value for the room rates. None come to mind. Maybe tea and coffee faccilities in the room would be nice, but its not a major issue, it has a mini bar and the restaurant is just downstairs.
It was very convenient for Union Square, theatre district, shopping etc. The breakfasts were more than adequate, the pub atmosphere at the end of the day was very relaxing and very friendly. There was nothing to dislike, a little old fashioned, but for 2 oap's from uk was fine.
A very omfortable hotel, close to transport, restaurants, shopping, tourist activities. Very happy with it. n/A
close to union square
The best part of the stay was the convenient location to Union Square and the affordable price. When we used the valet parking (the only option for parking a car, and a pricey fee over and above the room charge), they assigned the car to the wrong room number, so at checkout time there was confusion and wasted time.
Very run down and supprised it was on booking.com as we have always had great hotels in the past this was very poor, very old and outdated in urgent need of a make over, rooms were very tiny and the bathroom was a joke would never stay here again, apart from one young lad on the desk the rest of the staff were as old as the hotel, very rude and unhelpful,if we had been staying in san francisco for any lenght of time we would of checked out and found a different hotel.
The hotel was fine. We did ask the staff for a quiet room, but instead got the (probably) most loud room. At the end of the hallway with aircon machines or what ever running all day/night making a lot of noise. The guy at reception said they stop at 10pm but they didn't. So he lied which I don't apreciate. For the rest reasonable hotel for the price. The man that checked us in, lieing about the noise in the room.
The staff was great. Everyone was very friendly and helpful. The elevator worked, the beds were comfortable, there was ample closet space, as well as a dresser and mini-fridge. There were coffee shops, pharmacies, and restaurants within a block or two of the hotel, which made it a great location. And the price, of course, was hard to beat. It's an old building, which comes with both charms and inconveniences. The old radiators, for example, pump out quite a bit of heat, which must be great on those cool, foggy days. If you stay over warmer days like I did, shutting them off and opening the window will bring the room back down to a comfortable level, albeit slowly. There are also no ventilation fans in the bathrooms, so they have louvered windows in the showers to keep the moisture levels down. This creates an interesting dichotomy of hot and cold in the same space. It took some getting used to. There were only two outlets in the room, which I've come to expect in older buildings. As a business traveler on a budget, you learn to travel with a power strip.
Its proximity to the event I was attending. Noise levels high.. Internal/external
This used to be a Kimpton Hotel and still has the cool factor that Kimpton brings to all its properties. Sadly, maintenance has waned since the hotel was sold to an investment company.
Staff were friendly. Lobby was nice. Close to union square. I quite liked te location. Room wasn't that clean, dust balls and items under the beds. Beds very soft as mattresses were old. Bathrooms looked very tired and were cramped. Wallpaper scuffed up badly. Needed remodel. Also there are a lot of homeless in this area, I got woken up every morning in the early hours with neurotic screaming and shouting from people sleeping outside.
Quiet with access to the theater district, Union Square and fine dining Bathroom a little small
Lovely spacious rooms and bathrooms, detailed and comfortable, great, and I mean great coffee in the lobby for mornings. The kind of hotel where you seat in the lobby and watch activity and relax. Just wonderful experience. Close to union square and Powell and market shopping and activity. It was perfect really!
Location - excellent, v close to Union Sq/restaurants etc; staff - friendly/helpful Room - small, low on facilities eg no kettle for tea making; noisy pipes; hotel 'resort charge' of 20+ per day for wifi and coffee station in lobby is bit cheeky for tech capital of the world with over 100+ starbucks in city
I really liked the architecture and our bellhop/concierge (they play double duty) was really nice. The rooms are small, which I expected from an old building. The mattresses are awful (truly, truly awful), which I din't expect and the price is high for low amenities and low quality. Also, the valet parking is $60/day. When we checked out, they asked how our stay was and I told them the mattresses were really uncomfortable and they just sort of ignored that. They probably hear it all the time. I won't stay there again.
I typically stay at a large chain hotel but couldn't get one on a short notice - the price was right and I really enjoyed taking a break from the same large business hotels. The lobby takes you to another place in time and everyone was very friendly. The room was clean and quaint. My colleague was staying at the much larger Hilton right across the street and loved the Serrano when he stopped by. It was a nice break from the usual and well worth it!
The hotel has lots of character, the lobby looks like the lobby of an old movie theater. The room also was furnished in period style, with a nice view. Very conveniently located near Market Street.
