About Boulevard

Since its opening in 1993, Boulevard restaurant has been hailed as one of the best restaurants in San Francisco. Created in partnership with designer Pat Kuleto, the elegant, yet warm and welcoming interior of Boulevard is the essence of the Belle Époque style. It is a glorious setting for Chef Nancy Oakes hearty, flavorful, beautiful cuisine. American regional flavors, French influenced style, enthralling design, form the entire experience at Boulevard. BOULEVARD has become my favorite Restaurant in San Francisco.I celebrated my birthday with friends and the staff was amazing. They even left a birthday card at the table. Service and food are excellent and the atmosphere relaxing. I love the Bar and the counter seating at the kitchen area. Would definitely recommend.

Boulevard is truly an anchor on the Embarcadero for dining - two days in the City and twice we eat at B. Our thanks to server Sophia, as we challenged the Sauvignon Blanc pour since it seemed to be more Chardonnay-like than SB. So gracious and enthusiastic - we absolutely loved the conversation, which enhanced our experience. And it earned Sophia an invitation to our winery, LangeTwins in Lodi! The starters are knockouts - we will be back, of course.

I brought a new friend here. It was a warm welcoming place on a cold rainy night. The food was amazing as it is consistently at this restaurant. For me the outstanding dish of the night was the quail served with an excellent light sauce on purple yams with strips of tart marinated pluots, pure alchemy. It was one of the top things I have eaten, period. The quail were large for quail and cooked perfectly. This dish alone is worth a trip.

Still one of the Best. After twenty-three years Blvd. continues to hit on all cylinders. It's all good and, it's very San Francisco. This restaurant does not try to copy anyone. It is it's own thing. You will not be disappointed dining here.

Excellent dinner as always. Great service and meal. The Pork Chop and Sole were great. The scallops were good but for two scallops at a $25 price tag....I wouldn't get again. The chocolate silk pie was good but very rich.

Went here for my girlfriend's birthday. Was looking forward to a great meal but I have to say everything was just OK. A little too bland for my palate. When you're splurging on fine dining, I expect everything to be delicious. Other than that, service was very attentive and there's a great view of the Bay Bridge.

The lobster bisque soup was lukewarm, I cannot imagine why as it was early and restaurant wasn't busy. The lamb was excellent and everything else was very good.\nThe service was beyond exceptional!

Boulevard continues to be nearly as perfect a restaurant as one can imagine. We had a beautiful seat by the windows facing the Bay Bridge. Service started slow but finished strong. I started with a little gem salad, which was delicious. We both had bavette steak entrees for lunch; the steak was terrific and the baked potato accompaniment was flawless, probably the best part of the meal. I finished with a chocolate custard dessert, which was outstanding. This remains my favorite restaurant in SF.

I was taking my mom out to dinner, during a very special weekend in San Francisco. Boulevard's staff made the entire evening perfect and a night to be remembered. Thank you! You are always the best... and I e been going since the early 1990's!

Both courses (soup and gumbo entre) arrived Luke warm at best. When I told the server, she was indifferent. I took my nephew there for his birthday lunch, telling him this was my long time favorite and best restaurant in town. I've been a customer since the beginning. Very very disappointed. So was he.

We were lucky to have this restaurant recommended by friends and got a reservation. The setting is quaint and beautifully decorated, chic cozy French bistro. You feel as if transported back to the 1920's. The food is stellar, I had the quail which was nearly boneless, so tender and moist. My husband had the kurobuta pork chop which also was cooked to perfection. The service is friendly and seamless. Great wine list and cocktails. We would definitely go back to this gem.

Let's start with the good, the table agreed the crab salad was outstanding and we thought our dessert of butterscotch pudding was the best we have ever had. Now for the bad, our whole order was screwed up, not once but twice! Maybe writing an order down after the first mix-up would have helped. The very expensive single Abalone Ravioli had something that was unchewable in it, two of the fish dishes were over salted, and even if those mistakes weren't there, these dishes were just okay. So, so disappointed in choosing this restaurant for our short visit to San Francisco, I expected fabulous and got mediocre.

We've been to Boulevard many times and have never been disappointed. The meals are always delicious and definitely comfort food. The atmosphere is elegant and beautiful and our table with a view of the lights of the bay bridge made it even more special. The service was friendly, relaxed and competent.

The food was not worth the price-it was neither very fresh and neither flavor for any of the items ordered-( crab speghetti, roast chicken , Salmon) . The food was cold as well and it was replaced but lacked any creativity. For a restaurant with such high prices should do better in making food better

We came for lunch, and had marvelous food and friendly service...but we had to wait an hour between our first course and our second...crazy! Fortunately the ambiance was beautiful, and I really like my husband, or this could have been a trial!

We 'stumbled' upon Boulevard after experiencing Super Bowl City. What a treat it was, so when friends came from Ohio and wanted to go to the City for lunch, this was the perfect choice. We were welcomed warmly and escorted to a window table. The wait staff was outstanding, pleasant and knowledgeable.

I came here with my grandparents on a Thursday night and we had a great meal! Our waitress knew all the ins and outs of the menu - we landed on the duck, foie gras, and sole for our entrees. Everyone loved their entrees. I also had the scallops for an appetizer which were delicious.\n\nThe ambiance, decor, and lighting are all very neat. Overall, this is a great place to eat if you're in the financial district.

Enjoyed a wonderful business lunch at Boulevard. Everyone ordered either seafood or vegetarian options and no one was disappointed! Perfectly cooked salmon, soothing butternut squash soup and a wonderful cauliflower appetizer all made lunch special. I will return to this restaurant the next time I am in San Francisco!

I had mid-day lunch with 2 friends. The most positive aspect of the experience is that we were treated well and never rushed. The food on the other hand was very disappointing. There seemed to be surprisingly few choices on the menu. The portion sizes of the entrées was very small, especially the salmon considering that it was $29. The Kobe beef hamburger was surprisingly tasteless. It was ordered medium and came out of the kitchen rare. The french fries were excellent. Overall a disappointing culinary experience given the reputation of the restaurant..

Boulevard is one of our top 5 favorite restaurants in the world (we've traveled quite a bit for business as well as personally). The ambiance of the restaurant is upscale with historic and comfortable overtones. The bar is a very pleasant San Francisco scene for a before diner aperitif. The bartender and our server were perfect...nicely mannered, reservedly friendly, and completely knowledgeable about the menus. The food was amazing. We enjoyed the Tomato and Burrata salad and the Blue Cheese and Gem Lettuce Salad. Both were fresh and light. Our main courses were lamb and halibut, both exceptionally well prepared and accompanied by both unique and complementary flavors. The lemon sorbet and bourbon praline ice cream for dessert enhanced the entire meal. The wine list has a very good selection both in terms of variety and price. Valet parking is also available which is a big plus in the City. We highly recommend this restaurant for almost any occasion....it's great for business dinners as well as for special occasions like birthdays and anniversaries.

I started eating here 25 years ago when it was new, and now Boulevard is a venerable San Francisco institution. For me, this restaurant is what a high-end dining experience should be. Even when the place is full, it doesn’t feel crowded and it’s not too noisy – both very important to me. The food is better than I can make myself, but not so precious or cutting edge that it’s silly or supercilious (no crab foam). The service is first rate, professional, there when you want it, but not obsequious. The prices are not cheap, but they’re not outrageous either for what you get. They have a good selection of wines, including wines by the glass. I think the wines are a little overpriced, maybe 20%, but that’s me. The flip side is that the wines are all good and the wine service is impeccable, including a sommelier who really knows his stuff and seems to care about your experience, and the correct (i.e., Champagne flutes; Burgundy glasses for pinot; Bordeaux glasses for cab, etc.) Reidle crystal stemware (that stuff is so fragile that I can’t imagine using it in a restaurant). I love this place and it’s my go-to for a fine dining experience.

Service was indifferent. Salad course was excellent. Entree arrived barely warm. Baked chicken skin was fatty not crisp. Crumbs on table and green bits of food on menu provided. I hadn't been back to Boulevard for literally a decade. Well... indisputedly San Francisco's best restaurant experience. From beginning to end, the place is a well-oiled, engine, relatively straightforward, yet unimaginably sophisticated. Unpretentious, enthusiastic knowledge, very happy people. Best of all, absolutely delicious -- the brent wolfe king quail and kurobuta pork chop will make you weep... and I'm not even kidding!

I had a very good time. The place is nice and near the waterfront. no view but cozy.\n The bar is great. great Martinis too. \n It is a pricey and you may not fill up with only the main dish.. I know my brother was left hungry . he order the pork chop. I expect more food for the main course. My lamb was good, but I need more bread. Not enough vegetables and or rice mash potatoesl ?? just lamb and bit of kale I think. The meats was excellent.\nThe wine too was very good selection. \n\n\nThis is s missing is a larger portion of the sides dishes for the price of a $40.00 plate you do not want to go home hungry or an empty wallet.

Boulevard provided an excellent experience all around - from the call with the gracious hostess to explain we'd be late for our reservation, to how we were greeted, the engaging and fun service, the easy pace of our meal despite a busy dining room, to our departure. Wonderful combination of flavors and textures without any one dish being 'overdone.' Beet salad, lamb, sole, creative dessert - all scrumptious and complemented by a new wine discovery. This is now a have-to stop when visiting San Francisco.

Service was rude. We made reservations for late in the evening for dessert only after attending the Nutcracker with our family like we have done for several years now. Keep in mind, this wasn't even during dinner time so it's not like we were tying up a table for dessert. We were informed several times during the evening that we would not be allowed to do this again, make reservations for a late dessert. We were also told this very publicly upon check in like we had done something wrong. It was quite embarrassing. Umm, your restaurant is the one who accepted our reservation and then you humiliate us upon arrival. Bad customer service.

Boulevard was one of the high points in a trip to San Francisco that was dedicated to eating at some of the Cities best restaurants, including Kokari, Quence (the low point), and Danko. Service was efficient and personal without being overbearing nor the least bit pretentious. The ambiance is perfect for a large, bistro style restaurant and the decor (Pat Kuleto design) was tastefully creative. Of perhaps greatest significance was the kitchen's perfect execution of complex offerings; savory delight!

I'd been wanting to check out Boulevard since I arrived in the Bay Area almost *mumble*mumble* years ago - it's a bit pricey for one of our standard date nights, but it made for an excellent birthday meal. Excellent cocktails and wine selection, wonderfully-prepared scallop-and-beef-cheek appetizer, and AMAZING lamb T-bone. Excellent Californian cuisine, prepared expertly from great ingredients.

Visiting from out of town and found this on Open Table. Looked great, so booked a dinner for two. Had Tuna carpacio, Crab salad and Pork chop. Some of the most beautiful presentations we've ever seen, however we don't take pictures so it will be in our memories. Besides being beautiful the food was excellent.

This restaurant is a SF standard. I have dined here multiple times over the years and enjoyed every meal. However, I was disappointed this time with the poor seasoning of the food. When you pay $51 for a piece of beef fillet, it should be perfectly seasoned. Instead, it was bland which is a major fail for a prime cut of meat. Instead the vegetables and sides were overseasoned. The foie gras which has always been my favorite lacked flavor as well. It continues to have a beautiful ambience, but I feel that the food was not up to par.

We had a fabulous lunch at Boulevard! The food was outstanding, as was the service. The waiter was very attentive to my husband's need for a gluten free meal.\nWe both ordered salads - a beet salad and baby gem salad. I rarely comment on salads in a review, as they are often unremarkable. I have to say, the baby gem salad was perfect, with bright and very fresh baby lettuce, nice chunks of perfectly ripe avocado, tomato wedges (out of season, but very flavorful), and excellent salad dressings. My house-made spaghetti with crab was EXCELLENT and memorable, and my husband enjoyed his risotto (definitely worth the little extra $ to add gorgeous scallops). \nAlthough I'm not a big eater (typically taking home a doggie bag), I have to say that the portions were quite 'moderate.' I probably could have eaten another order of the spaghetti.\nOn the dessert menu, I appreciated the option of ordering a single 'bon bon' (that name doesn't quite do it justice, though!) - just a lovely sweet treat, without feeling as if I'd over-indulged.\nHighly recommend The Boulevard; just be aware of the modest portions.

My wife and I had a wonderful dining experience, and it was our first time. I don't know why I waited so long to to dine here. Sorry I don't have time for more details, but our server was great, the whole meal was delish, and we were treated with smiles and respect as soon as we walked in. I got the filet mignon and it was absolutely amazing. The service was great, they got me everything I desired. The flourless chocolate cake was very rich and delicious. It was expensive, but worth every penny. I will definitely go there again.

Disappointing! The beet and greens salad had lots of shredded greens, too few beets. Kiwi and pomegranate seeds and nuts made the salad a mess. Petrole sole with risotto was bland and also lukewarm. Unfortunately, all three of us ordered the sole. Dessert was the bright spot. Ice creams and sorbets were very good. Overall, disappointed.

Wonderful in all ways although I think it was way over the top in terms of cost, with a truffle starter of 5 ounces costing $69 and $10 per person for bringing in your own birthday cake. $450 including tip for 4 people was a huge and overpriced splurge considering portions were very modest.

I was greeted immediately and was seated as I wait for my family to arrives. The atmosphere was very pleasant, food is delicious, size of the dish is decent and the server was very knowledge about the food they served. Definitely recommend it to friends and will go back anytime.

Our annual anniversary go-to restaurant. Had 3 seafood first courses and all were spectacular followed by 2 of Nancy's foie gras courses that were amazing. All preparations while having amazing complexity were so perfect with everything enhancing the effect. The Le Coutot Sautern-Barsac was a perfect accompaniment for the foie and with our desserts. Service was outstanding.

Took my mother for a holiday lunch at Boulevard and it was delicious, as usual. Waiter had a little attitude which wasn't welcome, but he was efficient. Best to have reservations, usually very full at both lunch and dinner. Love the look of dark wood and fresh white linen.

Food is tremendous. This is our second time to this restaurant, after finding out about it. I was told to have to try their pork chop and I did. It was very good , very tender. My husband had his black and blue filet mignon, but he was not as impressed as the first time, it was just slightly over done and it's lacking a good sauce, he said. But overall, it was great experience and our waiter gave us great service.

We absolutely loved this place. We had reservations and as soon as we arrived, we were seated. Our Waitress was amazing and attentive. I'm a vegetarian and they had multiple options. My husband had the Sole and he loved it. Our guest had the filet and it was great. The pumpkin soup was out of this world delicious. Highly recommend this place.

We have been to this restaurant several times over the years. My husband and I feel the food isn't as good as it used to be. Too many flavors going on and the only entree that we all felt was fantastic was the steak. I had the lamb which was very nice, but not out of this world. My husband and daughter ordered the gnocchi which we all agreed would have been better is it was more similar to the old fashioned gnocchi. The waitress was very attentive and provided great service. The bus boy kept coming back to take dishes before we were all finished with each course. I don't usually write reviews, but was disappointed with the overall experience considering the price and the fact that it is always top 100 for SF restaurants.

My 15+ years dining at Boulevard yield consistently good reviews across the board!\n\nThe service is among the best, most consistent and well-paced in the city. The food, and the ambience always feel elegantly festive. My niece, who just moved back to CA from NYC compares it favorably to a favorite of hers and my mother's there: 'Tocqueville'.\nMy niece and I decided on a couple of glasses of rosé Champagne to start, and the server suggested we order the half bottle of Billecart-Salmon, which allowed us two glasses apiece and we enjoyed very much.\nOur menu choices all more than satisfied. For appetizers: One in our party sampled the crab bisque, deemed 'excellent' by one who doesn't usually even eat crab. Another had the ahi tuna, also very good. I tried the white asparagus, porchetta di testa (that's right, pig's head) and lobster, since I had never tried pig's head and my niece and I were curious. The pork was shaved thin á la proscuitto. We both thought the porchetta did not have much flavor and mostly added texture to the dish and,in sum, thought another pairing might have added more flavor and played better off the lobster. The dish was very tasty, notwithstanding the pork though.\n\nFor mains, two in our party had the petrale sole prepared in a variation of the classic veronique style, with the addition of crab. The portion was hearty and the flavors and textures kept the dish interesting throughout.\n\nThe two others enjoyed wood oven-roasted filet migñon au jus, accompanied by cauliflower welsh rarebit, spinach, and yukon fingerling potatoes. Two thumbs, way up, I was told...\nDessert was a mint brownie sundae, which was the most popular choice, and a butterscotch pudding, ruined IMO, by the dark chocolate Bavarian cream destroying the nuance of the butterscotch and making the dessert way too rich. I quit after three bites. Fortunately, I had ordered a (perfect) Irish coffee, so that became my default dessert.\n\nBoulevard remains a steadfast favorite!

This was our first visit back to Boulevard after repatriating to the US from 3 years in Hong Kong. The restaurant was one of our Favorites and will likely return despite an uneven experience. \nService good, especially our waiter, perfect course timing. Both salads, beet and little gem, excellent, husband's lamb perfectly cooked , would have appreciated a bit more of the delicious sauce. My halibut unfortunately a bit over and dry , potatoes a bit under cooked. resulting in a disappointing choice. Desert excellent. Will likely return but was surprised when no one inquired about the fish that was only 1/3 consumed. Great well priced wine list.

This was a revisit of ealier anniversary celebrations at the Boulevard and Christmas is always a special time there. The Lamb was exceptional and the gem salad was so tasty. My wife said the champagne cocktail was the best ever. It was our 52 anniversary and we enjoyed it immensely.\nHighly recommended for a special celebration.

Probably the best food I've ever had. My girlfriend and I went for our anniversary. We had the cheapest wine on the menu ($14 a glass), the scallop starter which was cooked perfectly and delicious. She had the boneless lamb and I had the pork chop. Just a stunning meal. Definitely pricey though. We aren't rich so this might be a once a year occasion. But would definitely recommend.

A very whimsical restaurant. It had a nice bar while waiting to be seated however it seemed even with the reservation it took a while to be seated. That perhaps could be attributed to a busy Wednesday night. Once we were seated it took the waitress quite a bit of time to ask us if we wanted additional drinks prior to ordering appetizers and our entrées. Once we did order our drinks we did ask for the two bottles of wine that we brought to be decanted and served. The som that poured the first bottle actually over poured the first serving even though we requested half pours. From then on we noticed that the service was quite slow and all the tables around us received amuse bouches but we did not, not that it matters to us but we did notice it. Aside from these few missteps, the food was quite delicious. One nice touch from the staff was that there was a birthday card for one of the party members of whom we were dining there because it was their birthday. Overall a good experience with a few minor tweaks would be an even better experience. I would recommend this restaurant because even though there were a few annoyances they could be corrected.

Best meal in the USA for some time. Outstanding food, entertaining and sensitive service, lovely environment. The Foie gras appetizer was to die for. My wife and I shared it and it was rich and plenty. The last time we had anything close (it was a bit better) was in a 1 star in Bordeaux France. My main course was the pork chop that was one of the best ever. My wife had the sea bass, which she liked. For desert we shared the caramel pudding creation that was a wonderful ending. We have been before, but this time really was exceptional. We will be back.

Some food items were excellent and some were okay. The tuna appetizer was good, the duck tacos amazing and the fried pheasant delicious. The seared scallops were well cooked but under seasoned and the risotto okay. The hot toddy was out of this world tasty. I would have been happy with the hot toddy, bread and butter and an appetizer.

I've been a long time Boulevard fan so it pains me to have to drop my usual 5 star review to 3 stars..\n\nBoth of us ordered the truffled pasta as the main course. After an unacceptably long wait (after our first course) I had to flag our server down to find out where our order was. When it finally arrived, the pasta dish was bland, dry and undercooked. I would have complained about the small portion size, but in this case less was more. My wine was oxygenated and the glass full of sediment. The server never dropped by during the entire meal to see how we were doing. \n\nThey made a very minor adjustment to the bill, but I was looking for a good lunch and not a discount. Maybe they were having an off-day, but their hallmark has always been consistent high quality food and service. Hope this is not an indicator of things to come.

It has been a rough year for my family and I, and I wanted to do something special for my mom; she is more than deserving. Dinner was superb. Best scallops we have ever eaten and our server paired our wines perfectly with ever course. He truly made our experience. I would go back not only for the food, but also the service. I like the restaurant and have been a couple times before. It is expensive so I would expect perfection. All three of us ordered quail. Two were perfect, the third was rare-raw in the middle. That person ate half of mine and he took his home so he could cook it in the microwave. I am not sure how the chef can tell if a bird is done, but she/he needs to be able to check.

Boulevard never disappoints. It was my honey's birthday and decided to celebrate it here. The appetizer options are always exquisite, the halibut and also the pork chop...Absolutely perfect. The steak wasn't as exquisite compared to other times.. It had potato gratin and broccoli. The dessert was amazing.. I can go on for days about the wine list... Extensive and the sommelier was super helpful. We dine here maybe every couple of months, and I never get enough.

We've eaten here for years and is always a great place to eat. Atmosphere is always wonderful and the service couldn't be any better. Food always good although our four dinners came out luke warm but the food still terrific. Didn't want to send it back to heat up. The hostess couldn't have been more professional and accommodating. She needs a raise whatever you're paying her. See you next time we're in town.

The food tends to be a bit too salty for our taste. We remembered to ask for no 'extra' salt, which was just right (the food is often marinated or otherwise seasoned before cooking, so it is already salted). The service was excellent, and had no difficulty handling the 'no extra salt' request.

Boulevard is a longstanding SF classic. Great lighting, bustling, great service and (generally) excellent food: it's always a solid choice. Last week, our pasta appetizers were a bit under-cooked, but overall, dinner was lovely. It's a 'must try' place, so we forgive it having a bit of an off night. We will be back.

This restaurant has always been my favorite in San Francisco. After living away from the City for many years, coming back to this restaurant for the wife's birthday has clearly not disappointed. Boulevard still continues to deliver the quality food that foodies desire and does it without the snobbishness of restaurants named after individuals (GD, MM). Using the freshest ingredients means that the menu is ever-changing and you might have to take a while to decide what you really but ultimately, the quality and the consistency of the food makes most choices a good one anyways. The open kitchen atmosphere and being able to watch the chefs' hard at work and the great wine list makes this place the perfect restaurant for a date, an anniversary, or that someone special's birthday.

After friends recommneded Blvd to us, it's become a hot spot favorite of ours! The bar is fantastic; the wait staff is friendly, knowledgable, and professional; the chefs are entertaining and talented; and sitting at the counter facing the kitchen is a fun treat! We have enjoyed Boulevard over many years and it is still outstanding.\nOur guests for the evening were members of the Berlin Philharmonic. They travel the world and said the meal was as good as any meal in Paris, Amsterdam etc.\nThey were very happy! We will continue to think of Boulevard as the place to dine when we are visiting in San Francisco. Also, the setting is unique. A wonderful older building just steps from the beautiful San Francisco Bay. What more could we ask for?

Hadn't been here in many years and was pleased to find a very cheery, cozy and bustling atmosphere. Service was very friendly and professional and the food was creative and flavorful. The gazpacho was delicious! Hope to return in the near future.

Outstanding food menu , exceptional service and well thought out wine list are always my standards for a Michelin level restaurant. It's easy to take it for granted but once you're having the dining experience - you are quickly reminded why Boulevard is unforgettable. Best with friends and family but the occasional dining alone at the chefs bar is always inviting for me too.

I'm not sure why this restaurant came so highly recommended. Service was friendly but very slow. There seemed to be a problem in the kitchen plating the dinners. Tuna Tartare was great but the salmon was fishy. Butterscotch pudding did not even taste like butterscotch. Don't know if this was just an off night, or not. Felt more like a pub experience than a fine dining experience. Location was great!

Food, as usual, was excellent, but occasion somewhat spoiled by waiter prematurely removing my dining partner's salad plate when we weren't yet finished. She said 'Halibut is coming up.' I told her she was moving faster than we were eating. She smiled and said something like 'Lunchtime rush.' Very disappointing to an otherwise enjoyable lunch. Waiter needs better training.

A favorite. Go each trip to S.F. This was least favorite experience in past dozen visits. Waited long time for food, and then filet was barely warm. Cooked to requested level (med rare) but as cool to touch as warm. Suspect it sat in serving window too long. Waiter offered to have it heated up, but did not want it to become medium or worse. He said 'this happens with filets sometimes' which I found very strange and a cop out. Wife's halibut was just OK. Overall disappointing to expectations based upon past experiences.

Overall, Boulevard is a great restaurant - for special occasions. I was a little disappointed in the entree size and the overall cost. I had a started salad and entree and still left hungry. I believe I also had to ask for bread. I would highly recommend they serve the bread warm and room temperature butter or whipped butter. Also, please cut the bread all the way through or close to it. When you're dining with guests, do you really want to have to pick up the bread and pull it apart with your hands?\n\nWork on your portion size so it's more than sufficient and memorable. I went to another competing restaurant the following day and they checked all the boxes and was 1/2 the price.\n\nThe service was top notch and memorable. \n\nTWSF

Excellent restaurant!! Really nice setting. Nice views of the Bay Bridge if you are in front. Crowded and busy but service is generally very good. We did have a delay between our appetizers and entrees-it seemed like they had forgotten our entree order. Very accommodating of food allergies. Great, but expensive wine list. Would definitely recommend and would go again.

My only comment would be that for the quality of restaurant and the price of the food, and the overall vibe it is trying to achieve, the service could have been more attentive. Service equal to any restaurant I have been to and better that all but a handful. Food was uniformly delicious - with large portions. One slight food critique: because prices are extremely reasonable, the entrees tend to lack the 'wow' factor found at certain restaurants.

Boulevard is my go to restaurant for special occasions. Super consistent since it opened many years ago, I have never been disappointed. My diet changed to vegan recently, and although there weren't any vegan options, per se, they were very accommodating in making/altering an offering to meet my needs. The bartender was wonderful in his hand crafted concoctions too. Everyone was super happy with his meal. It's been awhile since I'd been there, but I'll be back. Thanks Boulevard for making a special birthday and memorable occasion!!

Instead of doing a regular meal, I tried 3 different appetizers. All of them were amazingly good. It is sad for me to say that Boulevard's fell short of what I remembered it to be, food wise. I had the pork chop, which was good but not enough sauce. However, my husband had the halibut and was very disappointed with it. It lacked flavor, the size of the fish was no bigger than the palm of his hand and there was a small amount of green sauce that had no flavor whatsoever and the lack of seasoning made the fish taste dry. I used to rave about Boulevard's to him and I was embarrassed. Small menu, no specials, and a Michelin Star?? Sorry but they fell short. Too many weird items mixed together. Time to get back to basics.

Boulevard is one of my Go-To restaurants. I have been eating here for at least 10 years and have never been disappointed with the service or the food quality. Boulevard is not the most innovative restaurant in San Francisco but it is one of the most reliable for top quality food in reasonably large portions. I particularly like the lamb and the Halibut. And the decor is traditional San Francisco. \n\nBoulevard is not cheap. Still, it is a relatively good value for San Francisco, which has become outrageously expensive. \n\nI used to love visiting San Francisco but not I am beginning to dislike coming here because of the gross inequality that it stands for. I loved this city when I lived here in the 1970s and had planned to retire here. Not anymore. It is a different city and getting more like New York City every year (Yuhk!).

We went to Boulevard for our anniversary and had lunch there. This is a one-star Michelin restaurant and we enjoyed our meal. Started with lobster bisque, then had lobster fritters (delicious), continued on with a beet and pear salad (loved the candied walnuts) and finished with one of the special of the day the New York steak in its own beef jus, with Yukon potatoes and spinach. The desserts were outstanding: my husband had frozen bonbons and I had a very light, refreshing huckleberry ice cream and lemon nougat with Chantilly cream. They treated very nice and pampered us for our anniversary. Because of BART problems we were 20 minutes late for our seating, but after calling them they told us not to worry and they had kept our table by the window with a view of the Bay Bridge as requested. This is not an inexpensive restaurant; we had a $100 gift card and with the rest of the bill and tip we paid an extra $111. So had we paid for it all the way it would have been over $200. We could go back even without the gift card.

Impression of Careless people, main course served at dirty table....the bread crumbs from the appetizers remained at the table until dessert served. A nice gentleman from another section passed by a few times then he noticed, and removed bread crumbs not our server or busser. \nBe side been very pricy.\nThe food portions are almost like a testing bites, and $34,32,30 for an entree, $19 for apps is high for a lunch menu. Which is none of this prices are stated on lunch menu online. The menu online is showing average lunch price for apps are $12 and entree are between $18-25... \nSome how looks like they cheated.\nNot up to michelin standards.

Boulevard is a truly exceptional at food; however, one should not plan a dinner here if you want to have a business discussion without having to scream or be bumped by a wait staff. Moreover, the wait staff often appeared irritated that guests were present b/c everyone was in their way. Even seated, we and our glasses were bumped by staff.

This is an extraordinary restaurant and I'm never disappointed. Service is impeccable, although on this occasion there was one incredibly small mistake (it involved delivery of food when I was en route to the table from the bathroom- food is generally held until all diners are seated). The food itself is superb. We had early girl tomato soup, lobster and prawn ravioli, and a salad for appetizers. We had two of the pork chops and one of the fish entrees. Dessert is always the best course.

We have always enjoyed Boulevard but this Friday wasn't a good holiday experience with friends from out of town. The hit was ANGUS FILET MIGNON for flavor but was served overcooked. BERKSHIRE KUROBUTA PORK PRIME RIB CHOPs was OK. The misses were two orders of CAULIFLOWER BISQUE with TRUFFLE, served too cold and reheated and AHI TUNA TARTARE, that just 'missed the boat' for us. The NORWEIGIAN WILD COD & MAINE LOBSTER sounded wonderful but I could only eat the one-bite of lobster. the dish should have been savory but I didn't like the preparation. My entree sat until waiters collected everyone's plates...it was busy and our server was MIA. She apologized and didn't charge for my entree but I would have rather enjoyed my dining experience. Walnut Cake dessert was left too. Nice view, Wines were excellent and we discovered their 'Midnight Manhattan' which was festive...we should have had two.

Been to this restaurant many times but have to say was not impressed with the food this evening. Had a beet salad with blue cheese. Was a nice presentation with the lettuce, beets and grapes and then all of a sudden there was this huge glob of blue cheese under the lettuce that was overwhelming. It would have been enjoyed more dispersed throughout the salad. Ended up having to spread it on bread to consume because by the time I found it, my salad was gone. Had the quail as my main dish and was disappointed in the dryness on one section of quail. I thought the menu said there was quail sausage, which I had none, and something about spaetzel which I didn't see any. I had 2 small thigh/leg combinations and then something fried, which maybe that was the spaetzal, but I don't know. Over all for the money paid, not worth the price. Off night? I don't know.

I have been going to Boulevard since they opened. I love having lunch with friends there. I also love dining there at night with my husband and other couples. The food is ALWAYS incredible, from the ahi tuna tartar to the halibut! The waiters are about the best in town, and I love the fact that there is valet for lunch and dinner. Boulevard is just a hop, skip, and a jump from the Ferry Building but feels worlds away. Chef/Owner, Nancy Oaks, has been wowing fans for over 20 years. On our recent visit, after touring the city with visiting friends, we arrived tired and hungry at Boulevard but were almost 2 hours early for our reservation. When I checked with the hostess she said they had a no show for a table of four and could seat us in 10 minutes. How lucky was that? \nI've been on Moscow Mule kick this summer and was curious to try Boulevard's London Mule, a twist on the classic. I found it to be a little more tart and a little more ginger flavored than the standard mule but just as refreshing. We started with the calamari and octopus starter for the table. What can only be described as a 'petite' portion soon won us over with super charged flavor. Our table of four all ordered the halibut. It may sound cliche' but it was hands down the BEST halibut I've ever had! Seared to a gentle crispy gold on the outside yet still perfectly cooked on the inside, flaky and moist. Boulevard should be on everyone's restaurant list!

Boulevard has a changing menu that is based upon the freshest ingredients and it shows. Although a bit pricey, the quality was outstanding. I ordered the lamb which was cooked perfectly (I would have used a bit less salt but I am difficult on this front) and with very interesting side dishes. The first course (raw tuna) was outstanding and the service did not blink an eye when I asked that this be shared with another guest at the table. \nThey get an A++++ for service. They first gave us the 'best' table with a lovely view of the bay, but it was too cold for one of the guests so they moved us. Still too cold, they moved us again. All, with an apology and understanding instead of treating us like difficult clients. May I add that we were 20 minutes late on a very busy night...all in all, highly recommend.

This was my Second visit to Boulevard. First was great. This time not so great. Crab appetizer had just a tiny amount of crab. Fois gras was microscopic - much smaller piece than on my first visit. My husband's sole was a excellent and our ice cream dessert was good as well - quality more like our first visit. The light over our table flashed on and off in a very distracting way. We were told maybe the bulb was going bad. But oddly, exactly the same thing happened on our first visit. Waiter was a bit surly - certainly not friendly.

Whenever we're in San Francisco, dinner at the Boulevard is a MUST. The food, service and ambiance are truly an experience. The artistry that goes into the preparation of each plate is amazing. Each time I dine there, I try to select an item that I have not tried yet and I am never disappointed. Seating in the front is very busy with people going in and out but the noise level was still moderate; we could still hear and talk to the folks dining with us across the table. The back of the restaurant is a bit more quiet but the noise level was still moderate. The service is impeccable and has always been.

I have been a huge fan of Boulevard for many years. Since moving to Sonoma I have not had the opportunity to frequent the restaurant over the past several months. I must say, for the first time I was slightly disappointed.\n\nI found the portion sizes to be greatly reduced. The bowl of butternut squash soup took about 4 spoonfuls and the tuna appetizer was smaller than I ever remember. Just 'food' for thought.

Made a last minute reservation that they were able to accommodate. Food was excellent, as was the wine. Enjoyed at 2012 Premier Cru Chablis with the appetizer and 2011 Château d'Armailhac with the pork chop. Dessert was equally satisfying. I was surprised how busy it was for a late Sunday evening (a little loud), but their service was wonderful. Attentive yet not overbearing. Thanks for a great evening! I look forward to future visits!

Came to Boulevard for a night out while in town from Baltimore based off a locals advice. We love going out to eat and this place did not disappoint! Complementary appetizer tastes from the chef and a sommelier that was over accommodating to our requests. We tried their lamb and pork dishes, both were outstanding, but the pork was hands down the best we have ever had. Make sure to try this dish. If we ever find ourselves back in San Fran, Boulevard is definitely on the 'to-do' list!

Boulevard is what you wanted it to be. The food is great, service superb and the decor is perfect. Its obvious why they get the awards. It might cost a bit more than others, but you get what you pay for. Definitely on our favorites list.

I used to love Boulevard but they just weren't on the other night. My wife and I both had the King Salmon. It was a small filet on top of rice. The food was fine, but the presentation was lacking and the value was terrible. Also, I have to say that the service was probably the poorest I've had in the city in a very long time. There are far too many better dining options so I just won't be back.

We had heard so much about this restaurant, but had a mediocre experience. The food was very good, but incredibly small portions for the price. Our server was not friendly, which really could have made a difference in the evening we spent there. We would not return for these reasons. If you don't mind paying a lot for very little food and can hopefully get a better server, then you would probably enjoy the restaurant.

For appetizers four of us split ahi, dungeness crab salad, and 2 orders of pasta with white truffles. For mains we split quail, lamb, and pork chop. Everything was very, very good. Our two bottles of wine were on the cheap end (both in the $40s) and they were also quite nice. The desserts were fine but the other food was better. All around it was a terrific meal for about $120 a person.

This was a most memorable experience. Great Ambience(the coffered brick ceiling wowed me) a wonderful menu, attentive service, including the sommelier, made this a must go back to Restaurant. Food is outstanding. Wine list is superb.

Always our favorite when in San Francisco. Delicious, innovative, good wine choices, divine desserts (our server surprised us and wow!) always quality. Only other comment from our table is that the decor may need a little freshening but honestly I didn't notice. Can't wait to return!

The service was the best part of the experience. We had a lovely anniversary card waiting on our table and a flawless server. The dishes we timed perfectly and the server had good food and drink knowledge. The food wasn't as amazing as I'd hoped. It was nice but not seasoned well. The octopus was perfectly cooked and probably my favorite over the filet or lamb due to seasoning.

While the prices at Boulevard seem to have ratcheted up again ($16.50 for a kir? $39.00 for a pork chop?,) the menu, the execution, the service, and the ambiance are incomparable. What continues to amaze and enchant me is the way they conceive their menu as a whole and the individual dishes in particular. They all work together and the food sings from the heart. Don't fall in love with any specific dish, however -- except perhaps the foie gras ($36.00) -- because the menu changes constantly to take advantage of what's in season and fresh and good. Every morsel is of the highest quality, and they treat their ingredients lovingly and without artifice.

I selected Boulevard for dinner with my daughter before her marriage the following week. We came to San Francisco just to have dinner at this restaurant. She had never been there previously. After dinner my daughter said I hadn't exaggerated about the quality of the dining experience. What more could we ask for.\n\nAs always the food was outstanding, the staff was helpful and knowledgable about the offerings. We wouldn't change a thing. Boulevard was the perfect choice for our last father daughter road trip.

This restaurant is made for a meal with dear friends. The food, the staff and experience always augments a special time. \n\nThis time we trusted the bar keep to surprise us with a gin based drink and were delighted when the cucumber gimlets arrived. \n\nAs always the food was wonderful. The staff was invisible and impeccable. A novel combination that that brings the focus to the friends with whom you share the evening. \n\nOne of my very favorites.

Still one of my favorite spots in the entire city. Great staff and service and some of the best food you'll ever eat. I have a lot of dietary restrictions and the staff was very receptive to it and knew their menu to make informed recommendations based on what I told them. Pricey but totally worth it.

We waited a long time for our entree arrive. We watched two other tables that were seated after us receive their entrees and then dessert, before we were served our entree. Our waitress recognized the situation, was apologetic, and then compensated us by not charging for dessert. Of course, we appreciated her efforts, but would have preferred not to have experienced such a delay in service.

I requested a window table and the one is t corner is perfect for conversation with friends because you can sit near enough to hear and to share French fries. The waitress was excellent, although I did not get her name, she is one I would like to have on our next visit, although the wait staff acted well as a team. Thumbs up for me.

Rose Champagne at the bar while we waited for our table, several courses of exquisitely designed and executed plates. Serious wine by the glass choices, including a Chinon to pair with the quail. Friendly but unimposing service. No rush, no sense of hustle and bustle around us, and the restaurant's design added to our pleasure.\n\nThe only negative: dessert service. I had noted that we were actually celebrating two birthdays, and we were pleasantly surprised by a handwritten birthday note served with the menus. And then no mention of birthdays for the rest of the meal. When desserts were offered I mentioned again that we were celebrating birthdays. I was told they do not offer a free dessert. I get that. Totally fine. We asked for the bill. Then the server returned WITH a dessert, with her compliments. Thank you very much for the special service. We paid, tipped well and left, having spent about $250 for two people.\n\nThe next day I looked at the itemized bill, we were charged for the dessert. It was only $7.00, but it still annoys. \n\nDON'T THINK I 'WON'T' COME HERE AGAIN, I will. Probably every time I come to the City. Even at $125/pp. It was just a mild disappointment.

We visited Boulevard to meet good friends for a dinner and a good visit with yummy food. It was our third visit together there. Our server was very accommodating to our needs. The ambiance is charming and inviting. Our dinners were good, but not as special as I've had in the past. Everyone was satisfied, but the salmon dinner was small for the prices charged.

Bartenders had a pronounced 'this is my domain and take it or leave it' attitude. I have noted this 'holier than thou' attitude at other 'hot and trendy' restaurants, usually right before they crash. Service later was better but my business colleagues' meals were cold, when they were not supposed to be cold. Sent them back and plates returned fiery hot with the same cold entrees present. Restaurant was, at that point, clearly wanting us to vacate--even though we had made no vocal protests that others might have witnessed. Disappointing experience for this seasoned restaurant goer who has dined all over the world.

Boulevard always hits the mark. Great atmosphere, service, food (apps, drinks, entree) and a relaxing place to enjoy a meal. I make it a point to get there early so I (and accompanying party) can sit at the seats looking in to the kitchen. Fun to watch.

We had an incredible experience at Boulevard from the food, to our waiter, to the busboy/waiter assistant services. Very attentive and friendly staff. For dinner, I had the filet mignon and my wife had the halibut. Both were excellent dishes. The filet was grilled to perfection and the halibut was moist and melted in your mouth. Kids (6&9) both had the butter pasta and enjoyed it. Loved our dinner here!

This is the 2nd visit in 8 days and the experience was very different. \nThis time the bus staff was borderline rude. My brother did not move the water glass for him to fill up in time, he did not fill his glass again the entire meal. The wait staff was in a hurry, my friend was still eating her salad and the waiter wanted to take it away, ended up taking the plate underneath her salad bowl!! Again she was not done with her steak and her plate was taken away. \nFood temperature ( both appetizer & entree) were luke warm for the entire table, the risotto was so red that it was not appetizing at all. \nNo one asked if we wanted wine. Even though not everyone ordered a cocktail, the wait staff should not assume we did not want wine!!\nThe table was not cleaned after our dinner, there were breadcrumbs on the table when we had dessert and coffee. I would expect better service from Boulevard especially since the service from a week ago was superb!\nWe were there with out of town friends and the service did not impress them, in fact, it was embarassing.

After a less than amazing birthday dinner the night before in SF, Boulevard made up for that splendidly. Nice place and decorum. Guys in suits and visitors in shorts were both made comfortable. Our waiter was a real seasoned pro and was spot on throughout the night. Food was outstanding and the wine pairing was perfect. My pre-dinner was sooo good, I had another one after....\nBoulevard is all it's cracked up to be.

I didn't like it at all, such a disappointment, even the table-cloth had stains on it. The potatoes that went with my fish entree were completely cold and looked like someone just microwaved it. The appetizers were awful, the presintetion was cheap motel like. And the waiter even forgot to bring us a bread. Huge disappointment with a huge prices.

Wonderful service with the exception of the bartender who was slow, then brought a Manhattan up instead of on the rocks. Food out of this world with prices commensurate. Great view of the Bay Bridge lights out the Embarcadero-side windows. Got quite noisy as the evening progressed.

My favorite restaurant in the City. When visiting the area, Boulevard is ALWAYS on the list of places I will eat. I have never had anything less than great there in many visits. While the food is top notch, it has more of a relaxed, conversational feel to the environment. It's classy but not at all stuffy. You would feel comfortable there in a suit and tie or in khakis and a collared shirt. Menu changes daily, with great flavors, fresh ingredients, interesting combinations. Service is knowledgeable and friendly. You really could not ask for a better restaurant experience.

I've said this in previous reviews, but Boulevards is my favorite SF restaurant and often my choice for a special occasion. I took a friend here recently to celebrate her 60th birthday, and as always the food, service, and ambience were outstanding. It is consistently excellent, and I have been enjoying Boulevards almost from the first day they opened. Never a bad meal, never anything less than exceptional service. And you cannot improve on the ambience.

I was a little underwhelmed with our experience at Boulevard. I had high expectations given its reputation but the service left much to be desired. The server left our bottle of white wine on the table instead of on ice. While some white wines do improve with Warmer temps, this was not one of them. She never even offered to keep it on ice for us. Secondly, she never checked back on us about the food (we would have told her the lamb was too well done for med rare but she never came back). The food was good. Appetizers were fantastic, as was dessert. The support staff was fantastic all night long but the server made for an awkward, disappointing experience.

I've gone to Boulevard a few times over the last 25 years, and it's never disappointed. The salad dressing was a bit salty for our taste, and we asked the server to keep the salt under control, and the rest of the dishes were low salt (except the pasta with sepia, for which the sepia itself is salty). Beautiful building, superb service.

I took two of my employees to lunch for their service anniversary. I asked for a nice table with my reservation, and we were seated at a nice table by the window. Our server was very helpful and my employees received a complementary desert for the occassion.

Having dined at Boulevard over the years on occasion for both lunch and dinner I found the quality of the food and presentation to be quite disappointing compared to other times. For lunch the prices of starters and mains are relatively high (which is to be expected) but meal did not live up to expectations. The calamari was fired oddly (more like fish and chips) and the inclusion of a padron pepper didn't work well. My main of scallops and risotto was uninteresting and not well prepared. I specifically asked for the scallops seared and they were overcooked and the risotto cooked in tomato water was blaah. Such a shame.

I have loved every meal at Boulevard. Today was an unexpected miss. The food quality was good, but the description should have included 'deconstructed', as I wouldn't expect a crab salad to be so disjointed. It was really hard to marry up all the flavors with a salad served this way on this type of plate (flat and oblong). I'd try for something else next time. \n\nI'd also recommend that the offerings include some sensitivity to allergens (gluten, grains, dairy, etc.) The menu is very small at lunch and I didn't see too many offerings that were free of bread, except the couple salads I ordered and a couple other items that I don't care for.

My husband and I had my birthday dinner at Boulevard. I heard good things about this place. I was very excited. However the service was so so. Food is overly salted to our taste. The lady at the reception desk was laughing very loud. I've had many special occasions at other nice restaurants and every time they made my expirence wonderful. I can't feel that in Boulevard for my 30th birthday. I don't feel want to go back again.

We felt lucky to eat here as it was recommended many times. We had to eat much later than usual, so try and make reservations early so that you can get a reservation early in the evening if that is what you like. The food and drinks were very good but a little pricey for what they were. One complaint was where our table was. We were seated very close to the front door which was not optimal. We should have asked to be moved and we would if we go again. Over all, an enjoyable meal.

Whatever the event- in this case my daughters 22nd birthday, the staff goes out of their way to make the us feel very special and guarantees a perfect evening! The Boulevard is always the highlight of our annual trip to San Fran. Starting with the reception when you arrive, the hostess seating you and the waiter or waitress are so friendly and want you to have a good time and an exceptional meal. \nOur recent visit, 9/27/16, was no exception. The food was outstanding the service was exceptional and we left looking forward to our trip next year.

We arrived for an early dinner before a show. The first course came out very quickly and we informed our server that we had plenty of time before our 8:00 play and did not want to finish too early. She did a great job managing the timing of the rest of the courses so that we finished at the perfect time to make our way to the theater. The food was great and the wine was equally good, but the server was absolutely outstanding.

We return to this restaurant every time we visit San Francisco. Love the art nouveaux historic building and decor. We had a wonderful dinner this past Sunday...extremely busy (which it always is). The wait staff and kitchen were working full out and never missed a beat. Our meal was delicious and excellent wine list. Will continue to return and always recommend.

One of my friends and I chose to have lunch at Boulevard for a recent get together. It was awesome. First of all, the ambience is fantastic. I love the 'old San Francisco feel' of the place, while it remains clean, cozy and welcoming. The food was fantastic! My risotto and scallops were fantastic and I highly recommend the bon-bon. I chose to have only one but it really wasn't enough. Even better, the staff is very competent and you don't feel like they are waiting to rush you out the door.

This was my first time at Boulevard and I was very impressed with what I saw and ate and how I was treated. It's location across from the Bay with a view of the Bay Bridge makes dining a worthwhile experience. The interior space is attractive and the movement of the chefs and the service staff make for a lively vision. The food is expertly prepared with top ingredients and the wine offerings were more than adequate for even the most discriminating diner. The valet parking is convenient. I highly recommend this restaurant for several reasons and I look forward to returning soon.

We make an effort to eat here every time we come into San Francisco. It has always satisfies and pleases us on every level. Service is caring and smart, without hovering. Suggestions when requested are intelligent and spot on. The menu has interest with enough classic standards to please all diners in your group. Desserts are inventive and fun. A grand night out.

Went for dinner with family and friends. Overall, the experience was wonderful; however, one of the dishes was a disappointment.\nThe Halibut was served ICE COLD. We sent it back and they re-fired the same dish which resulted in overcooked fish. Really not up to Boulevard standards.\nThe other three dishes and the appetizers were excellent. We all had bites of each others dishes and agreed that the Pork Chop was the best of all.\nThe wine list is extensive and there is a sommelier on hand to help if needed. You will certainly find something everyone will like.\nThe service was outstanding. Attentive and knowledgeable without being pretentious. Our server was a delight and even put up with my uncle's stupid jokes.\nI think there used to be more Gluten Free options. Seemed like this time there was much less to choose from. \nAll in all, it was a very nice evening. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a special occasion restaurant.

Love the atmosphere at Boulevard as well as most of the food and the service. My husband had the pork loin with prawns and risotto ($22) and LOVED it! My friend had the prawns and risotto ($25)and she also loved hers. I had the petrale sole which was about 4 oz. and good but not great and the price was $29!! Definitely not worth that price! We also had a fantastic appetizer with raviolis and a wonderful beet salad. Both were great. The deserts were also wonderful...butterscotch dessert and the chocolate dessert...both very good. Overall it was a wonderful experience.

After years of anticipation, Boulevard was a total let down. 1 of 3 appetizers was good. 2 of the 3 entrees needed to be sent back and should have been sent back a second time. The halibut texture was spongy and watery - very similar to frozen fish. \n\nIt may have been the time of our reservation (which was 9pm), but this shouldn't have made a difference, obviously. \n\nIt was so bad, we decided to skip dessert just in case we were going to be disappointed.\n\nService was the best thing about the meal.

Food was phenomenal, from the scallops to the lamb to the sticky pudding to close it out, absolutely a pleasure of tastes! The cranberry margarita however was not my fav, i would take a mulligan on that one, but as my wife said, we went for the food, not the drinks!

Great service, it's been a while since I have been there and glad to see it hasn't changed, other than the menu. Food is great, had the soft shell crab app and quail entrée, both were outstanding. The desert was chocolate puff bonbons, delicious. \n\nThe server was a lot of fun, he made it a memorable evening.

Boulevard serves phenomenal food that will be remembered for a long time. We had the sea scallop and the pear and Gorgonzola starters, the salmon and lamb T-bone entrees, and the buffalo milk bonbons for dessert. All were perfectly prepared. The service is impeccable but not stuffy. This is the only restaurant where I remember talking to diners at other tables about what we were all eating. It is hard to imagine a dining situation that Boulevard would not be suitable. This is a dining experience that we will remember for a long time.

Gret experience. I was in town with my brother and sister in law. They were visiting from NJ. We all commented on the great service. We arrived early had a drink and were promptly seated at the time of our reservation. Waiter explained the menu, gave us a few minutes to think and when he came back with our appetizer we ordered. Everything was wonderful. Great time was had by all and for a restaurant of this caliber the prices are very reasonable.

I visit San Francisco every summer and always find one night to visit Boulevard, most trips twice. It is hands down my favorite restaurant. The steak is perfect every time. If I'm alone or with one other person, I try to sit at the counter and watch the amazing kitchen staff - it's truly dinner and a show.

I have been dinning at Boulevards for many years and have never been disappointed. The food that we had was stellar. We started with two appetizers. Crab and avocado was fabulous and the tuna tartar the best I have eaten. We were drinking martinis and champagne that was perfect with these courses. Our mains were Halibut, filet mignon and lamb. We ended with bon bons and coffee. The best meal I have ever had !!!!

My husband had been here years ago but it was my first time here and we were both disappointed. We started with the little gem salad which was boring, underdressed and way over-priced. The crab ravioli were good but nothing special. Both the pork chop and filet were average - the filet was honestly a little flavorless - obviously the meat itself was the star but we've had better. The bon bons and coffee were the best part of the meal and we realized how depressing that is for a world renowned restaurant. I was really looking forward to this meal and while it was fine - it just wasn't special nor was it worth the price tag. Sad to say we won't be back.

We had not been to Boulevard in several years and took some friends who had not been there before. I love the look and feel of the restaurant, but found the food somewhat disappointing. Portions were fairly small for the price. I had the halibut which was good, but not great. The potato dish that it was served with was very dry. I think everyone felt a little underwhelmed. Also, the choices for main courses was somewhat limited.

Visiting San Francisco I was looking for an outstanding restaurant, not too worried about the price, but needed proximity and frankly, a reservation. Boulevard filled the bill. We had steak, pork chop, and quail and started with crab/avocado and beets. All were memorable, expertly prepared. The service was especially good: even at these prices, one rarely has the perfect service we enjoyed: no interruptions, unobtrusive attention, knowledgeable advice, humor (not much, thank you) and perfect timing.\n\nI'm not an expert, but I liked the wine list: a variety of prices, many choices by the glass, full range from aperitif to dessert. \n\nA menu with good fish choices, meat, fowl and vegan. Interesting desserts, coffees - the complete package. We'll go back next were in town.

Boulevard is a favorite of ours especially for celebrations. The menu is starting to feel a bit tired, however. The pork chop is wonderful, but I wish Boulevard would find an equally pleasing pork dish for the menu. Our server this time was not very attentive. Didn't check on whether appetizer salads or main courses were satisfying. Waited forever for our bottle of Billecart at the beginning of service. Busboy dropped items not once but twice near our table. Still a great restaurant and worth the $400 check. We were celebrating our anniversary. Perhaps the server should have asked whether we were dining for any special occasion at the beginning of service? Cheers!

ok, How is it possible that a restaurant that is over 20 years old is just as outstanding as the day it opened?! You know the food is outstanding when the restaurant is at capacity on a Tuesday night at 6:30. The quality and caliber of the cuisine is superb and the menu remains very current and fresh with new items. Our waiter was just a good as food, he was instrumental in recommending certain items that we were truly wowed by. He recommended the pork chop, and since I wanted something lean and on the healthy side I took his recommendation. Probably THE BEST pork chop I have ever had, which says a lot, as we are total foodies and have dined just about everywhere in the city. It's impossible not to have a great meal here, it's truly an institution of fabulous dining.

Unlike many of the older establishments, Boulevard has been able to update it's fare with interesting, current ingredients in use in kitchens across America. Service is always inviting with a seasoned wait staff. The food service wasn't rushed. We had an abalone starter which was rich and smokey...delicious. The pork chop is a favorite and restaurant specialty. Very good.

Been trying to secure reservations to Boulevard for months. Finally got in and have to say, was not blown away. The appetizer Handkerchief Pasta was outstanding, the lamb t-bone was a bit disappointing. The cumin flavor was overpowering. The wild salmon was great as was the Kurabata pork chop.

A terrific evening in every way. Request a seat at the Chef's counter and watch the symphony in action. A professional staff that takes the time to make it personal. We had the appetizers, great wines from Napa, the lamb T-bone and quail, and a wonderful dessert. I'm an old curmudgeon and rarely give a 10 - Boulevard is well worth a special trip. Enjoy.

All these years later, Boulevard remains my favorite restaurant in the city. Starters are all desirable, with not a loser in the bunch. I had the pork chop, tender and imaginatively prepared. Wine list is comprehensive, perhaps a little too much so. Servers at bar and at tableside couldn't have been more welcoming. \n\nI think the restaurant gets a little noiser at the back half than it does in the front, where the booths are. The tradeoff is that the view of the Bay is a little less comprehensive. However, all three of us preferred the moderate noice level of the front half since we were anticipating extended conversations. \n\nAlthough the prices are not inconsequential, they seem to have risen far less astronomically than prices have at other high calibre eateries in Embarcadero area of town. I recommend it without hesitation.

We were 3 diners and were looking forward to a repeat experience from visits in the past . We were UNDERWHELMED by the Wood Fired Lamb it was devoid of lamb flavor and wood smoke,Pork Chop was medium to small chop,and Filet was tender but again small for 49.00$ There were very little vegetables added to a very expensive entree. Our waitress was well trained and was a pleasant part of our dining. The restaurant seems to cater to tourists that are not 'foodies'. The wine G Magnolia Cab by the glass was unrecognizable,we used to enjoy the Beaulieu Cabs but this was not in it's class.

After several days in Yosemite, we met our cousins for a wonderful dinner @ Boulevard! Great waitress & food. Caprese salad w/ Burrata is always a treat. The foie gras & lamb was sublime, as were the filet & pork. We all split 2 orders of beautiful & tasty chocolate tart. Even the cappuccino w/ heart embellishment was memorable. We will definitely return.

What a surprise to walk into this restaurant, knowing its reputation, to find out that they have COUNTER seating!!!!! The staff was kind enough to move us right over. We sat right where the dishes come up for the staff. The view was amazing. The gnocchi is a great start to the meal, my fiance had the beets & burrata which he raved about for weeks! The pork shank is a VERY generous portion and all the food was cooked to perfection.\nWe are so excited to go back.

Fantastic anniversary dinner here, my wife had the quail and I had the lamb. Both were fantastic, perfectly cooked and had interesting flavors. Cheese selection was great, wine recommendations went with our food perfectly, and they even threw in a small anniversary dessert for us! Couldn't have been any better.

An annual Christmas lunch with a colleague was disappointing this year. The poached chicken in my salad was flavorful but I was surprised as it appeared to be plunked on a tossed salad - not what I expect from this restaurant. I was glad that the fish prepared for my colleague was very good. Butterscotch pudding ordered for dessert was nothing like the illustration on OpenTable. Service still reigns supreme at Boulevard. I'll order more carefully next time.

Good as always but a little disappointed in the size of my entree. Not too many vegetarian entrees so I opted for the gnocchi. 3 or 4 small gnocchi do not make a meal even if there were a few veggies on the plate as well, especially considering the price. That being said, my husband's entree, lamb was quite generous. It is an expensive restaurant so go knowing that.

I was actually looking for a great steak place in San Francisco to treat our son and his wife to celebrate her birthday and end our trip to Napa, when I saw that Boulevard was available. We had a great special occasion meal. We arrived a little early for our 7:45 reservation, but were seated immediately at a table with a great view of the Bay Bridge with it's nighttime light show. We went all out with everything from cocktails and appetizers, wine and entrees and dessert and after dinner port. It was all fantastic. My husband and son both had the file, which they said was perfect. We are from Louisiana , but I took a gamble on the fried soft shell crab appetizer as my meal, and it was one of the best I 've had, even in New Oleans. I had a put a note on Open Table that we were celebrating a birthday, and the waiter asked whose birthday when he first came to our table, and he brought my daughter-in-law a special ice cream and cookie desert with a candle in it. It is expensive, but comparable in price, food and service to the best restaurant in New Orleans, which from a New Orleanian, is saying a lot.

Boulevard is expensive from my middle class, no longer income earning vantage point, but special, never disappoints, special in terms of food, special in terms of service, worth it though I can't afford to do it often. Just under $100/person, with wine and service, and excellent, I will do it again for special occasions. High income earning foodies should do it more often! I don't know a better restaurant in SF than Boulevard.

I have wanted to try Boulevard for at least 10 years. I was finally able to convince my husband to give it a try. Both of us thought it was a wonderful experience. The food was delicious, the atmosphere was nice without being stuffy and the service was just perfect. I ordered an unusual salad of avocados, cucumber, kale and melon and it was a wonderful taste treat. I then had the pork chop which was juicy and well seasoned. My husband had the salmon. For dessert we had a roasted apple and filo dough treat. Never having been to Boulevard, we didn't know how much to order. Some restaurants give too much food which isn't very good. Boulevard gives smaller portions of lovely food that makes you want more. Our server gave us great suggestions on wine and brought sharing plates without being asked. He was observant but not intrusive - perfect! \n\nIt definitely wont be 10 years until I go there again - I'm already checking my calendar!

Boulevard was great. It always is. Friendly, helpful staff. Great food. My only complaint is that the only reservation times available on OpenTable were earlier than I would have preferred, yet while we were there, there were many open tables. I'm no expert on how restaurants run their reservations but in retrospect, I probably could have just shown up without a reservation and been seated at a preferable time.

Very good service. I had let them know before hand the reservations were made for my mother's birthday, they had a card for her and a very nice dessert. I thought that was amazing. I didn't know the menu changed nightly so I was looking forward to trying dishes that weren't on the menu however my entrée was very good, definitely will be going back.

We had not eaten at Boulevard for more that 20 years. Our experience was wonderful. The service was top notch, the ambiance is classic and creative. I just returned from Barcelona and Boulevard's Spanish Octopus appetizer was outstanding and authentic. Our entree's were equally as delicious.

Dual birthday celebrations. Bottle of Merry Edwards Pilot Noir (ok. - nothing special) Split the crab raviolis. One had the halibut dinner, the other the gnocchi. Both were very good. The biggest disappointment was the dessert - peach vanilla tart. The peaches were not ripe and tasteless and the vanilla 'deconstructed' tart was OK. All an all a B effort from an A+ restaurant

In life dinning plans such a pivotal place, allowing friends sand family to reflect and enjoy simple pleasures. Today's fast paced society places expectations greater than are achievable, but I have yet to find Boulevard not surprise and delight. \n\nMy yearly vacation to SF has consisted of one evening dining with family & sometimes colleagues at Boulevard. As I arrive to restaurant and see the glass windows and pass through the rolling door, I feel transported back into a time and era where all is possible and memories can be made...\n\nI always have made reservations so I can not speak to troubles getting a table. I personal enjoy watch the kitchen from two tops, but the back tables especially closest to the bay has a great view. Many enjoy the bar near the entrance. \n\nI personally do not discuss wait staff, but I have staff to be attentative and friendly.\n\nThe food at Boulevard has never disappointed! I have expectations when I dine at my favorite high end restaurants and they typically play off each other in an effort to eliminate the competition. Boulevard consistently stays on the list. The kitchen is incredible with flavor combinations and selections. \n\nDon't settle when simply the best is your goal.

As always, I sat at the chef's counter and was amazed by the great artistry of the many chefs on the line. \nThe food was wonderful. I had the beet salad which was exquisite with equally wonderful presentation and the Halibut which was done to perfection. \n\nI cannot rate Boulevard highly enough. Whenever I am in SF I make sure that I get my Boulevard fix!\n\nThank you to all who make it such a welcoming and special place. I must admit that I have been a fan since the opened so many years ago.

We absolutely love The Boulevard. My husband and I have been coming here for many years, and now we make a point to treat our college kids to this special setting at least once a year. The menu is exciting, the ambiance is warm and enchanting at the edge of the bay, and the staff always makes us feel like we are on a remarkable journey. So thankful the high level of expertise continues here. What a gem!

I love this restaurant. The service is always outstanding, as is the food. I point out the service as exceptional because there are a few places to get good food in SF, but very few that make you feel special. I was slightly disappointed this visit because there were a couple hairs in my dessert and I was charged $3.50 for hot water, not tea. I did not say anything about either, but annoying touch on what is usually a perfect experience.

I expected a little more out of Boulevard, for being such a highly recommended eatery. By 1:00pm, they were out of both their signature lunch item, as well as my second choice. To make up for that, they did offer a complementary bowl of the soup du jour -- a lobster bisque -- but that was rather mediocre and a touch on the watery side. I ended up going with the halibut with risotto which, while quite tasty, was not very warm and the portion size did not seem appropriate considering the price. I was also seated at a table at the end of an iron railing, which curves toward the table at the very end, causing me to constantly bump my elbow into it while eating. Unfortunately, it was not possible to angle the chair to avoid this, as the tables are packed so tightly that I would be impeding foot traffic and have my opposite elbow bumped from passers-by. Overall, I don't think I can recommend Boulevard, and likely won't be back myself. I expect more than a view from an upper mid-range priced restaurant.

Haven't been here for ages, but my friend had and she loves it. I was pleasantly surprised by the great waitstaff and service, as well as the food. Servings for lunch were just the right size - and the pork short rib could not have been better. It was served over Swiss chard, and a great house barbecue sauce. My friend had the burger with avocado - and fries, served in a hand copper pot. I made reservations on the same day, but would recommend advance booking.

I've come to Boulevard since it's inception and from the start, it was very good. I actually followed Nancy Oaks career from her cooking in the kitchen at the Mad Hatter Bar on Geary St. many years ago and in the young start of her career, the food was innovative, exciting and surprising in it's multi ethnic and taste levels. Boulevard has mellowed through the years and while it feels like a special evening, the food has gone somewhat bland and almost as an afterthought to the dining experience. What a shame that Nancy's brilliance in the kitchen has become so mundane and now the restaurant relies on it's past legacy.\n\nWait staff is excellent however.

I was really disappointed in the food. I had scallops (who puts crunchy seeds on scallops?) followed by Angus steak (gave up and left half on my plate). Not very tender for such a great restaurant. Desert was delicious! The service was excellent.

Boulevard is simply the best. It has the perfect balance between fancy and casual. The food is always creative and tasty. The wine list is complete. I remember the first time I walked in over twenty years ago and knew immediately that I would spend a lot of time there. I rarely have lunch at Boulevard, this may have been the first time, but I went recently for a special occasion and the experience could not have been better. We had a great Brut Rosé, perfect lobster bisque and a soft shell crab salad with lots of tasty surprises. It was an ideal afternoon. It is no wonder Boulevard has been a consistent top choice in the Bay Area since its inception.

Several business lunches at the Boulevard and highly recommend for such meetings. The food is good and more importantly interesting. Service is excellent; however, not pretentious. It was overpriced. The meat was really underdone- I guess medium rare means raw? The service was slow. The appetizers were good- tuna tartare, fried blossoms, very nice beet salad. I gave a 15% tip and the older blonde female waitress gave me a nasty look. Not going back.

I was very disappointed with the quantity of Salmon. It was a $41 dollars main course I ordered but the Salmon was a tiny piece. I am a petite woman who watch her diet and appreciate smaller portions, the Salmon was delicious but for tasting only size wise, this made me very unsatisfied. I was in a good mood and did not want to ruin the night so preferred not to complain, I will think twice before going there again and if I did will stay away from Salmon even though it is my favorite.

Boulevard has been my favorite special occasion restaurant in SF for many years. I have never had a bad meal there -- not even one that was just good. The food is always extraordinary, and the ambience simply cannot be beat. I love everything about this place. On this evening, four of us shared the beet salad and the ahi tuna appetizer, and I had a fabulous pork entree. The 'bon bon' desserts are the perfect bite after the meal for those of us who don't want a dessert that overwhelms. Lunch at Boulevard is equally good and less pricey, but dinners are even more special because of the romantic lighting. My husband enjoys peeking at the naughty French postcards in the men's restaurant, too. Something for everybody.

I love this place. It is always spot on in every aspect. The menu changes daily and is creative and flavorful. My husband and I shared the fois gras that was amazing. I had the king salmon and my husband had the pork chop. Both were outstanding. Portion sizes are perfect. The bon bond for dessert are not to be missed. Dinner for three was about $275 tip included and s total of four cocktails. Always can't wait to return here.

Boulevard has long been one of our SF favorites and never disappoints. Friendly and engaging bartender, darling and attentive waitress, great people watching. But the food is beyond perfection in preparation, flavor, presentation. We're hard to impress and can't stand restaurants where they are constantly interrupting your conversation to tell you about the food. Boulevard puts on no such airs. Be we found ourselves interrupting each other to exclaim over the food. Superb.

The Boulevard's ambience is welcoming and relaxing. Dining at the Boulevard made us feel as though we were truly 'getting away' from it all. The dining staff are knowlegeable about the menu, friendly and helpful with food pairing. The food was amazing, so complex and delicious! The halibut melted in our mouths and the soft shell crab was a delight! The pork roll was heavenly! The foie gras plate was beyond words! I ordered a dish consisting of pork, shrimp and grits. The grits was the best part of the dish. The pork was mostly just fat and largely inedible. There were just 3-4 very tiny shrimp while the menu suggested a balance between the pork and the shrimp. It my first disappointing dining experience at Boulevard.\n\nThe bill was prepared incorrectly but was adjusted after the error was pointed out.

Exquisitely prepared and delicious food. The service was a bit lacking at times, though. I had to ask for a second glass of wine and I made it clear we wanted to order more later after our initial order of appetizers but had to wave down the waiter to get the menu. My friend and I were treating ourselves to a nice dinner out and yet I felt we were dismissed because we were not a couple and also because we chose to order a series of appetizers instead of entrees. The chocolate cake for dessert was disappointing and not worth the price. If I go again, I will make sure it is on a date, for I felt discriminated against as two women. The food was flawless but the service and dessert made leave feeling I had wasted some of my money.

We have dined at Boulevard several times over the years and have never been disappointed. The menu items each time are imaginative, fresh, inspired and well executed. This time was no exception. We went to celebrate a landmark birthday -- getting a reservation was difficult because the restaurant is so well loved. A cauliflower bisque with truffle, Petrale sole with black trumpet mushroom tempura & roasted celeriac balls, a pan roasted double airline quail breast with hand-cut quail sausage alongside honeynut gnochetti in a spaghetti squash & poppy seed 'nest' were all perfectly prepared and presented. One minor complaint -- the serving staff was too quick to clear the table after each course, an unfortunate habit in American restaurants.

As one of the top tier restaurants in a foodie's paradise (San Francisco) Boulevard doesn't disappoint. The Art Nouveau decor, refined cuisine and friendly service are on par. At Mission and Embarcadero it has a great location, good view, convenient for public transportation--but most use the Valet. We parked two blocks away in a secured lot. Foie gras, abelone, a pork chop and a lamb chop made for a robust meal. My only minor issue is that the brining of the pork chop left it a bit salty for my taste. (They might offer non-brined chops to customers). It's Kurobuta pork, how can you mess it up? These are tiny complaints compared to the consistently wonderful dining experience at Boulevard.

My wife and I celebrated our 22 anniversary. We were a little concerned based on our last visit and some reviews we read. Since it is very pricey, we tried to keep an open mind. The appetizer was small but fantastic. We had some questions and our waiter ( name is Hunter) was very helpful and funny. Our meals were over the top. I had quail and my wife had the salmon. We were so happy that the meal was what we had hoped until we shared our dessert. We ordered the peach crumble with peach ice cream. Simple dish (we are not big on desserts) and it was terrible! Peaches were hard, the crumble had not flavor and was very hard and the ice cream was blah but because everything else was terrific we were ok. The wine list is spectacular and the service was awesome. We will go back!

First - for those who say the room is 'old' or 'tired' - from what I can see - the look is intentionally Parisian old world classic and all that makes this look is intact! The menu has the usual range of options to peruse. The menu is online if you want to preview. We all enjoyed what we had - though I am not sure if any of us had a 'wow' moment. All was very good, but all was also as expected. The wine list has great breadth - nevertheless, we also brought in our own, as the price point of the wine choices is on the higher end. Overall it was very good - but shy of excellence given the amazing choices we have in SF.

The restaurant consistently puts out outstanding dishes with the best and freshest ingredients. The creative ways in which the dishes are prepared are always different but not 'over the top'. No vertical food here. Just great combination of flavors with the finest ingredients. Everything very thoughtfully prepared and delicious.

We arrived at Boulevard after having dinner at The Restaurant at Meadowoods in St. Helena the previous night. We worried it would be a come down after the our previous evening but we were not disappointed. While a bit more simple in presentation and style, the taste and service is every bit as good. My wife had the lamb and I had the beef. Both preparations were incredible. The service was graceful. The wine recommendations were outstanding. This really remains an absolute gem.

We always dine at Boulevard whenever we visit San Francisco. This time, we faced an unusual circumstance when a bug was served with one of our entrées. While the restaurant handled it seamlessly by offering to replace the meal, which we did not accept (given I lost my appetite), they did remove the charge for the entrée as well as the glass of wine that I had enjoyed. I suppose it's inevitable in the restaurant business but when it happens to you, it's disconcerting. \n As always, service was on point other than the hostess, whose voice is rather high pitched & was very noisy in greeting regular customers. In our opinion a bit more decorum would have been appropriate.

The entire staff went out of their way to make my wife (in a wheelchair) feel very welcome and no trouble at all!! Food was spectacular as well as enhancing our special occasion with our children! We'd love to come back anytime we're in SF!

Our second visit to this sought after table was a major letdown, the food was very ordinary and way overpriced. My wife asked for her filet mignon to be cooked medium rare but it came red. The waitress took it back and brought back another steak also very red! We did not point it out the 2nd time as by then I was halfway through my meal. The menu is not very inventive.This place is resting on its laurels and is looking tired. I can't imagine that we will go back on our next trip to San Francisco.

This was one of the best dining experiences I've ever had. The service from start to finish was incredible, we were attended to very well, and the whole wait staff was very responsive to a food allergy. The food was incredible, some of the best food I've ever tasted. Our table was overlooking the Bay Bridge. One of my best dining experiences.

My husband and I have been going to Boulevard for years. It has always been wonderful. This time it was good but not great. The pork chop was cooked perfectly but the broad beans and diced kumquat did not integrate well nor did the bed of greens add much to or contrast well with the overall taste. In the wild petrale sole dish, the radish (?) balls were slightly under cooked and not easy for the fork to pick them up or pierce through. We noticed there was a big party downstairs and wondered whether that affected the kitchen? \nAs usual, the service was courteous, attentive, smart, and well-paced.

This was another spectacular meal for ourselves and two friends. Of particular note was the attentive service. The staff shares responsibility for support each table, so there was never an issue with getting bread, water, serving the plates when they were ready--and everyone was unfailingly friendly and courteous. Each dish was artfully displayed and the flavors and quality of the ingredients were outstanding. Boulevard remains one of the best restaurants in San Francisco. Period.

Great food, as always. Great drinks, as always. Boulevard is the best bang-for-the-buck fine dining experience in the Bay Area. Everything is dead on. Service is perfect, food is done perfectly with a great balance of flavor, and cocktails/wines are excellent. We've gone elsewhere, but Boulevard is the only 'nice' restaurant we keep coming back to.

We had eaten at Boulevard years ago and enjoyed our experience, which is why we invited our out of town friends to join us. We ended up being very dissatisfied. First of all the service was soooo slow, and I don't think it was because they were busy, for they weren't. The only course that I enjoyed was the Lobster Bisque, for the Calamari/octopus grill was cold and tasted like it had been sitting around for hours. Two of us had it and were extremely disappointed. Our guests were polite and just didn't make any comments about the food, they just didn't eat much. My husband did enjoy his steak. We were afraid to order desert for it would have taken another half hour to be served. We all just wanted to leave.

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed a recent Monday evening at Boulevard. We have been to France over 40 times and eat each time at bistros and Michelan starred restaurants. The food at Boulevard is well prepared, unique in preparation and beautifully presented. We had the octopus/calamari appetizer and the fois gras. Both were exceptional as were our salads. The lamb was tender, well seasoned and flavorful as was the quail. The cherry crumble and strawberry sorbet were great endings to the meal. The solmania paired wines with each course well. Our wait staff were efficient and friendly. The design of the interior is warm and welcoming like many bistros and starred restaurants we have experienced in France. Don't miss this gem!

My pan-roasted halibut was served over tabouleh but it turns out that was a cold tabouleh salad, with a little side dollop of yoghurt. The yoghurt dollop was situated next to the halibut on the plate, and the two touched. Not a good taste combination! Our friend's quail was good but the side of chicken dumplings with poppy seed sauce had little flavor. The Black Mission fig fritters turned out not to be fritters [as in batter-based] but rather whole figs dipped in something, fried, halved, and then served. Perhaps Boulevard is trying too hard and stretching too far to be unique? The vanilla ice cream was bland but, thank the goddess, the dark chocolate tart was wonderful. Service almost over-attentive...people always going by our table looking for things we might be done with that the could pick up. It was somewhat intrusive and annoying.

I actually expected more I have to be honest. We started with the ahi tuna, the fish was divine however it was rather bland and if I am honest it was seriously lacking flavor. My husband had the pork which we cannot fault, it was delicious and cooked perfectly. I had the salmon. I have to be totally honest, I was disappointed. It was so bland. The beetroot and from memory buckwheat was actually so boring and lackluster I was so disappointed. The table across from me also ordered the salmon and I could hear them ask for some chili to jazz it up! Don't get me wrong the salmon was cooked perfectly the rest of the dish just let it down sadly. The restaurant is lovely though, great open kitchen and lovely table setting. Our waiter was rather eccentric to say the least but nice enough. For the $$ I probably won't be running back.

Boulevard has been one of favorite restaurants for many years. We eat there monthly. However, this time it seemed as though there was no energy in the food or service. Maybe it's just getting tired. Time to move on? \n\nThe chairs were extremely uncomfortable. They certainly make enough on their dinners to update their seating. \n\nFood was okay but not bright and inventive as we have experienced many times, in the past.\n\nSad, but it seems to happen to all restaurants, sooner or later.

This was my first trip to Boulevard. Our party of 4 went for lunch. I am from New Orleans, so I can appreciate French food. I had the lobster bisque which was pretty good. But then I had the soft shell crab gumbo that was very good. I will definitely go back.

Boulevard NEVER DISAPPOINTS. Everything was perfect. We were celebrating my husbands birthday and it was just so perfectly done that we might duplicate it again next year. I wish I had heard the name of our waiter because he was so terrific that I would like to give him the cudos he deserves. The Food - Maybe it was too hyped before I went? I found the food just OK - nothing bad but nothing spectacular. Dessert was super good though.\n\nThe service - On a positive, I found the bartender very nice and friendly. But our waiter was a little stiff and not particularly friendly. I might also be biased because, what really annoyed me was -- it was my birthday -- and though my husband told the staff, I didn't get any birthday acknowledgement. I saw other 'Happy Birthday' plates going out to other tables as I was leaving so I felt a bit snubbed. It was quite disappointing.

I have not been to Boulevard in a couple years. I was sadly amazed at how the food has dropped off. I also found it odd that our waiter had a condescending attitude. \nMy salmon was supposedly medium-rare but, in fact, was medium to over-cooked. The other items in the dish were not complementary to the salmon. \nI would like to believe it was just me, but having eaten at a sister restaurant recently, Prospect, which was awful I'm wondering if the eye is no longer on the ball. \nBummer!

We were in the City for the day, headed to a matinee of Jersey Boys. We wanted somewhere special to stop for lunch and we found it. A short walk from the Ferry Bldg to lunch, we were a little early, walked around for a little bit checking out the neighborhood. Once inside, looked over the menu, made our choices. One couple did a few small plates, working on a small lunch. My wife and I each had a salad, which turned out perfect. Service was attentive without being in our face all the time. Food quality was great, the bill was paid and we were on our way on time. We will definitely be back to Boulevard.

Our dining experience at Boulevard left us as cold as some of the entrees and as confused as some of the service staff as to why we ever bothered going to this restaurant. The food was decent but nothing spectacular. The service was inadequate to downright terrible, though our principal server apologized for the poor performance of her peers. The wines were overpriced, the ambiance lackluster (unless you like tight quarters and high noise levels), and the overall experience pretty darn poor. This was our first visit and it will be our last, which is sad as we had high hopes for an outstanding evening.

Dining at Boulevard is a gourmet experience in every way. From the thoughtful assistance we received from Lori with our reservation to our last scrumptious bite of dessert, our meal was one we will long remember. The restaurant feels as wonderful as it did when it first opened. Service was professional, personal, and graciously attentive. The biggest challenge was deciding what we would most enjoy for dinner, a daunting task when everything seemed so tempting. If we were having our proverbial last meal, the foie gras appetizer is how we would want to start. The evening was a special occasion, made even more so by the hospitality so perfectly found at Boulevard.

We eat out often and came to celebrate our 50 th anniversary. We had been to Boulevard several times. The reception staff first assigned us an undesirable table next to the bar and entrance, which we refused since many tables in quieter areas were available. Food was excellent. Service was excellent except for the wine steward, who was border-line insulting when consulted about a suitable wine for my wife with a delicate stomach. Stewards in several Boston restaurants had no such difficulty on a trip 3 weeks ago. The Boulevard wine steward's mediocre response was disappointing despite the fact that we were ordering at least $ 170 of wine. I can only conclude that we did not fit the hip lifestyle and wine-type with which he was comfortable. Although the food was excellent as we remembered, the treatment by reception and wine steward spoiled the ambiance and did not match a Michelin-star restaurant.

Considerably overpriced. Soup course came out cold. Dismissed it - everyone is off once in a while. Main course came out - both dishes were cold and has to be sent back. Received reheated food, not new. Dishes used made eating the meal difficult. CRISP SUMMER SQUASH BLOSSOM & GOLDEN TOMATO RISOTTO (Ale Battered Squash Blossom Stuffed with Ricotta, Squash & Basil Pan Roasted King Trumpet Mushrooms & Crisp Wild Rice Crushed Fava Beans & Charred Romanesco Squash). Sounds great and what little there was tasted pretty good, but from my perspective, when the description starts off with stuffed squash blossom, I expect there is more than one. This main course barely qualified as an appetizer.\nThis restaurant needs to get over itself - simplify the menu, improve the service, improve the quality and adjust the prices to reflect the value. Two weeks to get a reservation - not likely to happen again unless there are major changes. Would rather go to their other restaurant (Waterbar) and get a decent meal for a reasonable price in an unpretentious setting.

Waiter was slow to greet, slow to take drink order, slow to deliver drink order, slow to deliver first course, slow to deliver entre. Delivery slowness may not have been his issue but given that we are paying for the service here, I was disappointed.

Everything about this restaurant was fantastic. The waiter was awesome. My husband and I both enjoyed appetizer salads and fish, but all of the other fare and courses looked great. I remember LeAvenue and enjoyed the Food But Boulevard is an Event. I had\nlunch with my High School Pal, an Architect. I have always enjoyed the three\ndifferent rooms, roofs and the food and service has always been excellent. \nWe decided to do a simple, no wine, no Martini Lunch and we just had 2 apps.\nBoth Spectacular, stuffed calamari and a Crevice Tostada for me, Very Tasty\nand we got out of there for $42 out the door with @ 20% Tip. I could have eaten\nMore but it was So good and special that I thought it was enough. A few years ago\nthis could have been a $200 Lunch but we wanted to keep it real and the waiter was\nvery friendly even thought we were On The Cheap... My pal will now take his wife and\nI will be back soon.

The staff was amazing. We arrived a little early and they were able to seat us right away. The atmosphere was very cozy. Been many times disappointed in bad service from the hostess eating chips as we walked in telling us we were 5 minutes early for our 5:30 reservation, even though total place empty. To bartender changing shifts or something no one told us so we could order 2nd cocktail. Having to ask twice for our bottle of Champagne we brought to be chilled. To the waiter being mad, I sent my risotto back because it was cold. I love this place and took a friend from Nevada for the first e. Service was horrible..

We had a great dining experience last night. Reception was very pleasant and genuine. Seating was immediate despite a full house. \nOur Waiter, Martin, was attentive and very helpful. We started with the scallops and the special of the night, porcini mushrooms. We chose Boulevard to celebrate our 45th wedding anniversary and thoroughly enjoyed the entire evening. Our table was in an alcove which made it more private and quiet. The service was wonderful without being stiff. The wine selection was amazing. Our choices of entrees suited each of us and were very high quality and delicious. This was one of our most successful anniversary dinners because from the greeting at the door to the clebratory note at our table to the special sweet at the end with congratulations written in chocolate we were treated as special.

I mostly enjoyed my experience here. The food was pricey with moderate portion sizes but high quality. Location is good but not particularly great view. Huge wine selection for bottles and a good 10 or so wines offered by glass. Servers were friendly and on top of silverware/plate changes but lacked attention to water. Was empty after 20 mins and didn't get filled until An hour later which by then was within 5 mins of leaving. Good spot to take those who highly value Michelin starred restaurants or other such titular means for gathering attention. We loved the food at Boulevard, up until the dessert. We had Sticky Toffee Pudding, which was cut up cake and candy bar and apricots. No imagination and it was not Sticky Toffee Pudding, even though it had quotes around it. The waiter was a hoot! Loved him. Don't discount the restaurant because of the dessert. I still think it was worth it.

I have been a loyal customer for many years, but not any more. While the food quality is still very good, the portion size was a joke!!! At $41.00 for about 4 ounces of salmon, somebody has lost their mind over there. Yes, the chef is famous. Yes, the food is wonderful. But their new prices are absolutely insane especially for the tiny portions they served. Our bill was $481.00 for three adults, 1 child WITHOUT any wine or alcohol. They even charged me $33.00 for 6 iced teas!!!! It's no wonder we saw a family sit down at the table next to us, look over the menus and then get up and leave!!! At nearly $500.00 for three adults and one child we should have been full. We left there and were still hungry. I WILL NEVER AGAIN PATRONIZE THIS RESTAURANT AS THEIR PRICING IS LUDICROUS AND THIER PORTION SIZES ARE A JOKE. THERE IS MUCH BETTER FOOD VALUE IN THIS CITY. NEVER AGIAN. BUYER BEWARE.

We arrived for an early 5:45 pm reservation and the restaurant was already full. We ordered three appetizers and all were equally delicious. For an entree, we had the pork and lamb. The brined pork was the best pork I've ever eaten at any restaurant. Moist, flavorful, delicious! The lamb was also delicious and tender. No room for dessert! We are planning to return on our next trip to San Francisco.

In spite of having been turned into a tourist mecca, the restaurant has managed to maintain a very special place in any romantic. It was surprising to return to the space after so many years and find how special this town is in the world. It sort of trumps the food, but the food is still very good. I have eaten at Boulevard since it opened oh so many years ago! In the last 6 years I have moved on to being a vegetarian. \n\nThis time, I brought a friend who was visiting from Overseas. She loved the meal (Halibut) and the ambiance.\n\nMy choice as a vegetarian on the Main Courses was a basic and sadly very bland tortellini that was garnished with fried nettles. \n\nI was disappointed and questioned the notion of coming back, because I expect much more from a restaurant at the caliber and price point of Boulevard. Given the popularity of Vegetarian dishes.\n\n I suggest the Chefs consider going to the same length of planning and preparation as they do for their meat/fish based dishes! Now, that would be a reason to go back!

I brought my father for lunch. I had eaten there a week earlier by myself for dinner. The pork chop was the best I have ever had. I sat at the counter looking into the exhibition kitchen. I enjoyed my experience very much. I was impressed with the quality and presentation of the food. I knew my father would enjoy it so i took him there. We had a good time and the food did not disappoint. A bit expensive for lunch but good non the less.

Despite the fact that the place was packed (on a Saturday night), he was attentive to us and continued to wow us with little extras from the kitchen. We had a great time at Boulevard! All the food dishes were on point, but some standouts was the soft shell crab for appetizer and the pork prime cut. All the flavors meshed so well on the crab. The pork dish was the best pork cut I have ever had, it is their signature dish. If you have never had it, you should definitely try it.\n\nA side note, it shouldn't be a surprise, but the mushrooms they use here are quite high end. They are definitely different than the standard mushrooms you see in the grocery store. I would also recommend trying dishes with their mushrooms.\n\nLastly, our server Ethan was fantastic. He was attentive, very kind, and accommodating to our requests. I will definitely find another reason to come back to Boulevard!

As alway, it as close to perfect as food and service can be. It is on the pricey side, but not money wasted. Each dish was expertly prepared and presented. The service was friendly and professional. I also liked that the portions were on the smaller side and not overloading the plate, going for quality over quantity. Great ambiance too.

From the moment we stepped into the restaurant, you know that you are at the right place as it's bustling with diners. Ethan (our server) was exceptionally friendly and helpful in recommending what food to try. All of his recommendations did not fail to pleased our taste buds. At the end of the dinner, we both had a HAPPY TUMMY. IT was heavenly right from starters to desert. Would definitely come back again when we are back in SF.

Yes, this place IS at least as wonderful as you have heard and/or read! We were so fortunate to be able to celebrate my wife's birthday with a dinner prepared and presented perfectly. You see our ratings; wish we could give 6 stars! Amazing menu selections, unbelievable wine list, pampering but not suffocating service, entertaining open kitchen, hip atmosphere in an historic space, peeks of the eastern span of the Bay Bridge...can't imagine any better SF dining experience than the one Chef Oakes and her staff have created. Couldn't WAIT to get on their reservation list for our next visit to the city; made sure I did that BEFORE I wrote this review! Our one mistake? We chose to have the FIRST meal of this excursion at Boulevard, so every meal since has suffered by comparison. So, our suggestion is either to eat here last...or only!

We went to Boulavard for our 11th anniversary.They have special tables they give to those celebrating special occasions.The food reminded us of being in the south of France with a California twist.Our server could explain about each small bite that came with our main dishes.I would highly recommend this to any foodie that I know.

Boulevard has become our favorite SF dining destination. The food has been perfectly prepared each time we visit. Service is attentive without being intrusive and the room is beautiful. This last time we sat opposite the open kitchen. Getting to watch the kitchen staff work was a lesson in concentration and excellent coordination. A spot we would easily recommends to anyone seeking fine food in SF.

The only booking available was 9.30 pm but the restaurant had been highly recommended by a epicurean friend so we went for it.\nThe menu was interesting and innovative but some of the flavours and textures really did not go together well.\nOur main courses were badly cooked with al dente risotto and potato that was raw in the middle. A fillet of sole had a raw fish centre.\n Our waitress told us that chef always cooks sole 'rare' and that we should have told her of our problems earlier. Our complaint went no further and I did not wish to meet a chef who was presumably rushed and may by then have been tired!\nLots of people like this restaurant but we will not be going back.\n\nVisited January 2016

This is also going on Yelp. I have always loved Boulevard - it has definitely been my 'go-to' place for dinner when I wanted to treat myself. However I had never had starters or desserts. The friend with me ordered two starters instead of an entree and I had the fabulous pork chop. I was shocked by the basically inedible scallops (tiny 2-piece portion with a not tiny price) - it was overpowered by some kind of icky lemony sauce. She also ordered a Dungeness crab salad crab salad the size of one scoop of ice cream and it was just okay, nothing special. We were so disappointed since this a favorite place for both of us. Then we made the mistake of ordering\ndesserts - the were so unmemorable that I can't even remember what I had! Now I understand all the yelpers complaining about the starters and desserts. Fact is, it is a lovely comfortable restaurant on the waterfront with great service and great entrees. Just avoid the starters and desserts!

This is our favorite restaurant in San Francisco, and it never disappoints. We love to sit at the Kitchen Bar and watch the chefs do their magic. They're very friendly and happy to talk about what they're doing. The energy is palpable, and their creations are always top-notch. This isn't the place for a quiet, romantic interlude, and it's certainly not cheap, but if you want great food, perfect service and an overall exceptional dining experience, spend the money and enjoy this ride.

This is the second time I have visited Boulevard and it was outstanding both times. Service was very attentive, view of the Bay Bridge was great, appetizer, main courses were extremely well prepared with outstanding combination of flavors. I had the pork chop and it was delicious and I am not a big pork chop fan but would definitely order again. Desert and wine list are excellent. One of my favorite San Francisco restaurants. This has rapidly become my favorite restaurant (anywhere). The food is simply fabulous. I started with burrata on a bed of crushed fava beans; it was incredible. I had fish as an entrée; it was just as delicious. I had two desserts; the pudding was the better of the two. The bread was wonderful. Service is always very attentive. The decor here is superb; it's classically elegant.

During our visit it was very busy (apparently unexpectedly busy) with several large parties, including what appeared to be a rock band with entourage sitting near us, so the service was not as attentive as usual. We had appetizers, soup and salad rather than the mains. That way we could sample many dishes. My 96 year old Mom was along. She loved her food. The restaurant is jam packed with tables, so the noise level is high. We had asked for a quiet table, but when I saw how far we had to walk, I asked for a nearby empty table. They were instantly accommodating. Our server was super. She had ideas about the menu and suggested them. We spent 3 days in San Francisco. We did our best to eat from one end of the City to the other. Boulevard was the best.

Amazing food with great Service. We had the Tuna Tartare the softshell crab and the vegetarian risotto. The flavors of the tuna tartare were outstanding. All came out fantastic and with good time lapses in between meals. The server was very kind and attentive to us even though we were not expending much. The waitstaff is very attentive and takes care of your needs in terms of beverages and food and beverage recommendations.\n\nBe warned though, do not come to this restaurant dress casually as the hostess is quite judgmental and if you're not dressed her standards you'll be seated in a substandard area. As always, we were delighted by our dinner at Boulevard. We live in Los Angles. Whenever we visit San Francisco, usually about twice a year, we always have at least one meal at Boulevard. The food is beautifully prepared and plated, with an incredible range of choices. The menu is always different from our last visit, and in keeping with the season. Great wine list. Our server, Desiree, was knowledgeable and very helpful with wine pairings. She was attentive and anticipated our whims. We never had to look for her. A great evening. We dine at Boulevard at least twice a year and it has always been our go to destination for a special dinner. Unfortunately, we were disappointed in the quality of some of our choices on our last visit. The octopus/calamari/tortellini starter was bland and ordinary, with not much distinction at all in the flavors of the calamari and octopus. The tortellini were very starchy and unremarkable and tasted like some of the packaged variety. The Angus filet, usually a choice that we groan over, was just pretty ordinary. Filet was not particularly tasty and the accompanying medley of potatoes and vegetables all tasted the same. The Kurobuta pork chop was very nice. We love this restaurant, the service and the ambience. We will go back, but the experience has downgraded into “good, but nothing extraordinary.” We will adjust our expectations.

Very busy spot, booking a must and then it seems near impossible to get a table with a view.\nFood inventive and a nice change from the normal american fare but we both found our mains over seasoned, to the point of mouth burn....\nService was a bit hit and miss, just enough attention but wine order was mixed up for a more expensive bottle, although this was adjusted on the bill. Other staff, water, bread etc. had not a word/smile, which is unusual for an american restaurant, where tips mean so much.......

We went to Boulevard because it was rated highly on trip advisor and we were not disappointed. The food was excellent, beautifully presented and great tasting. We opted for a number of appetizers in lieu of main courses and we loved them all. The foie gras was one of the best we've had, and the scallops were amazing. The service was fabulous, our waiter Ethan Ezra made an already excellent meal even better with his great suggestions and terrific personality. \nWe would definitely go back next time we are in San Fran.

We've been going to Boulevard at least once a year for ages on special occasions or to give visitors a treat. The food is always creative and delicious without being fussy, and the Paris brasserie interior is fun. The staff are always willing to go the extra mile, and the wine list never disappoints. This time my octopus appetizer and filet main course were both perfection on a plate--a delight to behold and then to savor. We're spoiled with outstanding restaurants in the Bay Area. Many come and go, but year in and year out Boulevard has delivered the goods.

We live in Chicago and love to visit San Francisco and Napa Valley. We had fond memories of our dinner at Boulevard 3 years ago so we thought it would be nice to go back. This time was a whole different experience. \n\nFirst we were seated across from the grill where we were inhaling smoke from the grill. Our server was kind enough to move us out of the line of fire and relocated us to a table closer to the front of the restaurant. We felt rushed throughout the evening. Our appetizers were brought within 5 minutes of ordering and our dinners were delivered as the appetizer plates were being cleared from the table. We were rushed through our bottle of wine. \n\nMenu items are limited. A huge disappointment for the high cost and the reputation of this restaurant. We won't be back.

Boulevard is still one of the best restaurants in the Bay Area. The quality of the food, the excellent service, the value for everything makes this a truly special place. I was celebrating a birthday and Boulevard had a card at my place when we sat down. The four of us ordered drinks followed by appetizers, main courses and two desserts. Everything was so, so delicious, presented beautifully and tasted as good as it looked. You can go to more expensive restaurants with more exotic foods and combinations, but for solid flavorful food, one cannot beat this place.

Excellent atmosphere, very extensive wine list with assistance of sommelier .mstarted with the scallop appetizer and it was likely the best scallop dish I have ever had. For main course had the salmon. It was good but not as memorable as the rest of meal. Our server was excellent. Gave us plenty of attention without being over bearing.

It was a visit after five years. The concept was maintained and glad that it has not changed. It is like visiting one of a high end bistros in Paris with a friendly ambiance and our language. Many options or selections of drinks. Listings for food selection is not a big one but any selection should satisfy you with wonderful art. The food will be backgrounded with an optimum level of professional service that is not too cumbersome for your enjoying conversation and the wonderful scenary of the bay bridge. A place that I want to visit more and a place that you will never leave without satisfaction.

We were in San Fran with friends for a vacation. Boulevard had done highly recommended. The location was great, service was fabulous but the food was just 'good'. Expected much more for the price. Wouldn't recommend. Much better restaurants in San Fran for the money.

We were celebrating my Mom's birthday and the experience couldn't have been better. I haven't been to The Boulevard in a few years, and my Mom has always wanted to go. I shouldn't have been worried - it was as good as ever. My parents couldn't stop talking about how great everything was. Took almost an hour to get our food. Who's got that kind of time? Waiter came back 3 times and said the delay was because I ordered my burger well done. Um, ok. The delay ruined the ambiance of the business lunch as now my guests were checking email and stressing over the time. The calamari appetizer is not at all what you think of as calamari appetizer. A bowl of wet noodles and raw baby squid? Yuck

I have been a long-time fan of Boulevard but a recent lunch left me a bit less enthusiastic. The food was good but not great...there was no 'pop' like I usually experience. I have been to this restaurant for both lunch and dinner many times and this was an unusual experience. I will go back again and hope this was a 'one-off' rather than a favorite restaurant just getting tired.\n\nWould still recommend.

Food excellent. Starters were more interesting so two of us had three each without an entree which gave us an extra group of tastes. First table was chilly by a door and we were moved smoothly to a better site. Service was very efficient and though not stuffy was still not very warm.

Fabulous food as usual. My friends from CT loved their wild salmon and halibut dishes. My scallops with salsify were incredible. Too bad that vegetable is not served more often. Would definitely recommend this restaurant!

Starter--crab and avocado--was superb. Entree--risotto with trumpet mushrooms, green and white asparagus, was good, but cheese was a little lumpy and gloppy and overpowered the delicate accompaniments. Wine list excellent.

Asked for lamb medium rare and got it too rare. Would have sent back but didn't want to make everyone else wait. Artichoke baratta appetizer very unpleasant as the kitchen didn't trim off the fibery inedible part of the leaves. Nothing like chomping on such a texture to dull the appetite. Overall we enjoyed our dinner. Loved the room but we were sat directly next to the sever station. Food was good, although somehow everything arrived just sort of warm, not one dish was hot. Our server was very professional and knowledgable.

We've depended on an endlessly wonderful dining experience at Boulevard and at La Avenue before it. A menu filled with great options requiring a fabulous martini to help make that all important decision of what you must give up among the great menu choices .\nOur last visit had the excellent service and ambience but the all important food choices were so limited I had to repeat one of the two shared appetizers because it was soooooo good and nothing else looked interesting. And, BTW, the other appetizer was a total bust.\nNancy, where are u?

For my friend's 18th birthday, I celebrated by taking him out to dinner at the Boulevard. I made reservations for 8:15, and was seated after waiting a few minutes.\nWe had the Foie Gras, Risotto, T-Bone, and Quail, and two desserts. Each was made wonderfully, and we ended up exiting feeling very full.\nThe waiter even came by with a candle, and a little placard that read 'happy birthday' in chocolate on a cake! He paid attention to my friend's allergies, and made sure his birthday was a memorable experience :)

Great food, great service, and love that they acknowledge birthdays with a special treat this year. We were handed Boulevard cards to write our birthday wish in our cards and take the candle from our dessert and seal it in the card and bring it back next year sealed to see if our birthday wish came true. We really enjoyed the food and service we received at Boulevard. The staff was great and went out of their way to make our evening special, as it was our last night in SF. I highly recommend the cocktails, they are very well done. Best by far was the Boulevardier. Excellent non-alcoholic beverages as well, which my wife appreciated (she's pregnant). \n\nThe place was much more energetic than I was expecting, with a good variety of groups and couples mixed in. Definitely a fun spot, though! The decor and atmosphere was unique and seeing all of the awards and recognition as you make your way to the restroom was impressive.\n\nThe food was first class, and very well presented. Portions were perfect, not too small to feel like a ripoff, and not so large as to make you feel engorged if you ate it all. Deserts were tastefully made, and light but delicious. \n\nDefinitely hope to stop in again in the future!

Very noisy & cramped. Not ideal to nearly have the waiter's bottom in your face when he was serving an adjoining table! Food was excellent however. Staff friendly. However waitress forgot our wine order so we were left without drinks until after our starters had finished. We did get our cocktails free to compensate however. Not a fan of open kitchens especially when sous chefs had long hair dangling. Meant couldn't help looking for hair in the food!

They were kind to seat us quickly even though we were 15 minutes late. Took our raincoats and checked them on the spot. Waiter, Tim, was very gracious. Wonderful Manhattan - just like I specified. Pea soup was fair. Burrata salad - have had better elsewhere. Petrale sole - a little undercooked. Lamb t-bone was good. Desserts were just okay. One diner ordered a bonbon. The waiter asked if he preferred two and he said one was fine. I can see why the waiter asked if he wanted two - very small bonbon. Overall - very skimpy servings for the price.

I have been coming to Boulevard since it first opened (and before that knew and loved L'Avenue its predecessor). But a recent visit showed marked decline. The food has lost is purity. It is now overly fussy and complicated. Too many ingredients on the plate. And to top it all off, portions can be laughably small. Case in point: an appetizer billed as King Crab with egg (a special Japanese variety) and truffle for $26. The amount of the first ingredient combined was less than the size of my thumb. Worse, when cooked with the egg, the crab lost its fresh taste. Main course was lamb cooked off the bone. Ordered rare it was served raw and was surrounded by a mish mash of sweet sauces. Dessert of chocolate and caramel offered a plate of small bits scattered around the dish (does anybody know how to make one unified thing any more?). I know Nancy Oakes has more talent than this. All in all every dish was a failure.

Great ambiance with a beautiful of Bay Bridge. Nice lighting, not too dark not too light. Service and staff were wonderful. We were late for our reservation (30 mins) and they didn't bat an eye. Seated us immediately. We weren't rushed. We would go again.

We've been coming here for our anniversary dinner for the past 3 years. Each menu item is impeccably delicious. The servers are wonderful and professional. Sit near the kitchen for a great show if you're into how a big restaurant works. \nThis place is like a well-oiled machine! \nPricey, definitely for special occasions. However, it's really worth it because everything is so fresh and delicious. \nInterior is a bit dated, and the crowd is 'mature,' but the food is to die for.

I have been going to Boulevard since they opened, I've been to almost every restaurant in the Bay Area including French Laundry. Boulevard is still my all time favorite.\nOne of the most important aspects is the consistency. It doesn't matter which season, time or day, the food is so consistent, they never failed me.

It had been a while since we last ate at Boulevard and maybe we just caught a bad night but service was not at the level we have come to expect from the place. \nDelays in bringing mains were unexplained but acknowledged through the gift of a sort of mid meal amuse to keep the table occupied. \nWhen mains did arrive, one plate had apparently Ben left to stand while the others caught up. The food was in appetizingly cold by the time it reached the table. This was pointed out to our waiter, who apologized and shrugged. \nAh well. We will not give up though . After so many years of faithful service we won't abandon her because of one less than stellar night. We will be paying careful attention next time though.

The building this restaurant is in is really cool. The inside decor was lovely. The food was very good. What was lacking was the staffs ability to make you feel welcomed and that they are glad to have you there as their guests. Very stuffy. The other thing lacking was a good beer selection. Charging $8.50 for a Sierra Nevada, a slight step above Coors was a bit disappointing for those in our group who were not wine drinkers. This was a one and done, it will not be a place we will return to again on our visits in San Francisco.

Having lived in the Bay Area since 1989, I am fortunate in that I was around when Boulevard first opened its doors in 1993. I worked as a paralegal just a few steps away at the Folger's Coffee Building at the time. I remember walking into the gorgeous bar area and being awed. The 1989 earthquake was not far from our minds and here was the most gorgeous brick ceiling and ornate bar. It was a welcome experience from a decor standpoint...and then we were embraced by the wonderful folks who served us well. I could only afford a drink or two back then but now am so lucky and thankful that I am able to dine there frequently. \n\nFrom the reservationist, to the chef de cuisine Tim Quaintance at lunch, to the lovely greetings each time we walk in
