Pros: Friendly Food' breakfast excellent
Pros: The cabin was lovely. Very spacious, clean, comfortable and cozy. The grounds were well taken care of and my kids appreciated the playground and off course to baby goats to play with. The restaurant was good and there was a good variety of food choices as well as the included breakfast. The staff was friendly and even though very little English was spoken they went out of their way to accommodate us. They helped arrange transportation to get money and for me to get to the Biotopo even driving me with their own vehicle. They also assisted with arranging a shuttle to Lanquin. Top notch service!
Cons: The only issue was there was significant road noise but due to its location it was expected.
Pros: Nice cosy room Very helpul staff Good restaurant Good wifi
Pros: Great staff, very friendly and helpful. Safe place and safe parking, with a guard monitoring the property at night. Great fireplace. A nice little table with chairs to sit in front of the fireplace. Clean washroom and REALLY HOT water - a first in Guatemala for us, so far. A restaurant is attached, which is pretty convenient since the place is distant from any town. Hotel is right on the side of the main road, so no difficult access on motorcycle. Note the region has temperatures between 13-19C (55-66F), but you won't feel cold in bed. Quite chilly in the washroom at night. Oh, and everything inside and outside the rooms (small cabins) is nice and clean.
Cons: Not being able to close the window in the washroom, so it's not too cold at night.
Pros: Very close to places for watching quetzal.
Pros: Beautiful location, friendly stuff. We love our room.
Pros: The staff were very helpful, friendly & professional. The in-room fireplace was exactly what we needed after a drizzly day & a cool night. They made a fire in the common area, the dining room & our individual room (which has no heating). The water in the shower was very hot - which was great! The food was very good (we had both breakfast & dinner) & a good value. The bed was comfortable and the linens & towels (wrapped up in unique designs - swans, hearts & elephants) ... we stayed three nights. Would indeed recommend it.
Cons: The location is good for the things that we wanted to do but could be a long drive for others as the traffic can be bad on this only road (especially uphill behind ubiquitous busses & trucks).
Pros: Facility is good
Cons: Too cold in December
Cons: Practically everything, there was nothing compared to the advertisement. Not even the check in process.
Offering a restaurant, Ranchitos Del Quetzal is located in Purulhá, next to the Biotopo del Quetzal Reserve. Free parking is available. Private bathrooms come with a shower. You can enjoy mountain views and garden view from the room, and extras include bed linen. At Ranchitos Del Quetzal you will find a garden. An array of activities can be enjoyed on site or in the surroundings, including hiking. This property is about 2 hours’ drive from Guatemala’s La Aurora International Airport.
Pros: Very nice eco-hotel on the road to Coban. The staff was extremely nice and helpful. Breakfast was good, amazing pineapple juice. We visited their reserve in the morning with a very knowledgeable guide. It's a beautiful little hike in the jungle with a nice waterfall. Unfortunately, we didn't see any quetzals, but we liked it anyway :)
Pros: The property is beautiful and basic at the same time. The staff were extremely accommodating and friendly. Our 2 night stay was wonderful and peaceful.
Cons: I couldn’t stay longer!
Pros: The location is excellent. I was able to admire quetzales flying in the morning. They flew overhead and we enjoyed watching them.
Cons: I wish the bathrooms were bigger and that they had better food choices. Packaged snacks, bottled water and other soft drinks would be a good choice. We ate there and got sick.
Pros: We really saw the Quetzal!!!
Cons: Rooms are basic but very clean
Pros: Amazing staff who love their jobs and care a lot about the place, animals and generally speaking about the environment trying to be eco-friendly as much as possible. Though there is a small choice for dinner (usually fish or chicken), it is very tasty and plenty. There is more choice for breakfast and again very good quality. They make really nice apple pies. As the hotel is on the edge of the cloud forest, there is a presence of birds everywhere. There are special feeders for humming birds so you can watch those while having your food and watch other wildlife. There are a couple of trails into the forest you can follow yourself to explore the place or with a guide who takes you around to try to spot a quetzal bird (a very passionate chap). The place is educational too hence you can learn a lot about the various types of orchids, forest etc. It is possible to see the quetzal bird (as per comments by other travelers) though we sadly did not see one which was fine as after all this is not a ZOO with caged birds to see. The room was spacious and comfortable enough with protective nets in the windows to stops the mosquitoes get in though worth having repellents too as they were everywhere (outside). Would have stayed longer if our itinerary was not too tight and would definitely come back again. Hopefully the place will be still around as there is a possibility it may be sold and converted into yet another coffee plantation :-( So, please visit and help to save it :-)
Cons: quite a busy road nearby since it is on a major route between Guatemala city and Coban but this should not detract you as the place is amazing and the noise dies down at night so you get a nice sleep anyway
Pros: Fantastic location in the cloud forest with beautiful waterfalls within walking distance
Pros: Everything was great at this hotel. We arrived in Guatemala City in afternoon and experienced a lot of traffic on the way to the hotel - so we got there around 8:30 pm. It was after there listed check in time but they met us at the gate and got us checked in. Our room was very comfortable and had a nice cabin feel. The shower also had hot water which was really refreshing in the morning. One of the hosts there gives tours in the morning where guests can bird watch. There are 2 trails on site and we really enjoyed the one we went on which ended at a waterfall. We saw some toucans, lizards, and other birds but not the famous Quetzal. Other guests had seen it before though, we just didnt have the same luck. The food at the restaurant was excellent and the owner was very kind. We would definitely stay there again. I recommend going to Orquigonia nearby if you have time.
Cons: Check in is until 7:00pm but they accommodated us at 8:30 so that was very nice.
Pros: The food was great, staff was friendly, and there were hardly any other guests there, so I had a great time relaxing by myself, taking in the scenery, and walking around the trail/sitting by the river. There's no wifi so you are 'forced' (thankfully) to be present and enjoy the nature. A very relaxing/rejuvenating stay!
Pros: Nice location in the reserve, perfect to have a chance to see the famous Quetzal early in the morning
Cons: Close to the road, so a little bit noisy
