If you are not used to under four or three stars I do not recommend. It needs to be updated and cleaned.
Located 1 and a half blocks from the beach. Beach towels available. Onsite parking. It is in the heart of the Condado section of San Juan where restaurants and nightlife and stores are plentiful. Staff was helpful. Bathtub was a bit worn and could be resurfaced but was adequate. Continental breakfast selections were slim, but cereal, coffee, and juice was sufficient for me. Staff was not aware that lounge chairs were available for rent on the beach at $3 per day. When I checked in and paid for my stay I would have liked to receive an itemized receipt that showed all charges such as taxes and parking. I requested an itemized receipt when I checked out and it was provided.
Near to the bus station Cleanliness not good
I was happy that those other very negative reviews were wrong. Casa del Caribe is perfectly adequate considering the price. And the location--in Condado--was great! Yes, I had to jiggle the light switch to make the lights come on, and yes, the water in the shower was hard to adjust. But considering what I paid, I was happy to be a little rustic for a couple of days. The coffee at breakfast wasn't to my taste, but there is a Starbuck's across the street. Although I called from the airport, as instructed, I stood on the sidewalk for 20-25 minutes while waiting for someone to let me in. (There is nobody at the desk after five or six p.m.) I hope they will kick in a few extra dollars to get a router that will get the wireless signal throughout the property--not just in the commons area.
Location is superb, right in the center of upscale Condado and 1 block from the beach. Hotel is bare bones type, lacking most amenities. Staff is very limited (usually one person) who does everything. Rooms are pretty clean under these circumstances. In the middle of my stay, the roof was renovated. Job was very noisy and sprayed black filth all over the grounds, cleaned up only when the job was over. Room telephones did not function and no one came to repair them.
One of the room (#10) was originally a car garage and transformed into a room... Horrible place, the toilet and shower is seperated by a partial wall that is not connected to the ceiling and a curtain 'door', not even a regular door, you literally sleeping next to your toilet. Spend the extra 10-15 bucks for a regular room. Overall this place is not worth to stay here, not even a single night.
Everything was lovely. Hotel was clean. The personnel was friendly and polite. This is a good hotel if you want to save money on your stay. I would stay here again.
The staff was very friendly and nice. The rooms were not state of the art, but they were clean. Hotel is located in a good section of Condado that is within walking distance to lots of restaurants, casinos, and the beach. I had an issue with my room that the staff quickly apologized and very quickly made up for my inconvenience. I would stay here again no questions asked.
Nothing The staff was never there and the room was filthy. The breakfast was mediocre at best. I would not suggest this place to anyone.
the staff was very helpful, informative. the bathroom could have been nicer.
The adjacent beach was very nice. Clean. Water comfortable. The hotel was convenient to parts of the San Juan Condado but be prepared to walk. The need to work on the shower plumbing. Did not work well. Continental breakfast was minimal.
It was quiet, calm, relaxed, not busy. Internet was good. Had a kitchen in my room to cook food Food was very expensive, shower had no pressure... at all
Friendly staff. Clean room. Basic accommodations Stained shower curtain. No wifi in the rooms
Attempted to scam us and try to charge me for my room twice. Had to despite with my bank because owner refused to help.
This is a small hotel near the beach in an excellent part of San Juan.It is nice for a family of 6. It was clean and had a kitchen. All pillows must be upgraded, needs pots to cook with. Otherwise, it's a decent place to stay if you are not looking for luxury in the Villas. Night manager must open door for you. Only one night manger, jack of all trades at this hotel.
Most of the staff was very helpful. The room was quite spacious. One of the staff members carried my 50 pound suitcase up to my room for me since there isn't an elevator. It's a block from the beach! My traveling buddy and I were both itchy from the beds, so it's possible there were bugs in the linens. The towels provided were extremely thin and worn, and we actually ended up buying our own towels to use. There was limited parking in the area.
i like the sense of privacy..the staff was very caring and willing to help you in anything i needed. even thou i didnt not enjoy of the complementary food it smelled great. room service was available at any time as needed. no major complaints. I will definetly stay @ oceana again!
It was somewhere to stay we were weary travellers and check in took over an hour. Some of our party were shown to rooms with other guests in the beds
The hotel is just a short walk to a nice beach. The outdoor pool is small but very nice. The restraunt / cafe on the first floor is very nice. Hotel staff is very nice. The hotel rooms were in serous need of major renovation. Bathroom was in very poor shape. Mismatched tile in shower, yellowed vanity top, pealed paint, crackd mirror. THe hotel is 3 stories and has no elevator.
It was just for 1 night before early morning flight. Cheap and close to the airport with available for the car parking. The worst hotel I stayed in in the last 10 years. Even we arrived after 10pm with no other guests around, the check-in took more than 30 minutes. The hotel staff could not add up 2 numbers and ended up overcharging us by $10 with a promise to fix this later. Breakfast served only from 8am not from 6.30 or 7 am as in most places, so we left at 7am without any. There were many stairs to the allocated room, although on the internet the rooms shown were around the pool on the ground floor. Blocked drain in hand basin, very hard towels- don't try it on your face! Noisy trafic.
The hotel is two blocks fromt the beach. They charged me more than expected according to my internet agreement.
Updated facilities Good reliable wi-fi Beach across the street Plenty of restaurants in the area Friendly and helpful staff Bus right in front of hotel
Good location across from the beach, near the airport, and close to attractions and shopping. Comfortable room. Beautiful Lobby The pizza restaurant on site is awesome. The girl that works there was super nice! Nice bar I lobby A few of the front desk staff need customer service training. 1 was just plain rude! Confusion over my 2nd day reservation on their end but I had to physically go down to the lobby and show them my confirmation. 5 minutes later I get a call from another person asking if I needed a late check out. What?!?! I literally just showed you my confirmation for TWO nights. There is a nice large pool but only 8 loungers and 2 tables. Our group of 3 and another couple had to lay or sit on our towels on the concrete. Lack of lightning in the room, but it's a boutique hotel so I guess that's expected. Charge at check out was $40 more than what was quoted when I booked.
THE WHOLE ROOM WAS VERY NICE EMPLOYEE WERE VERY HELFUL IN TAKING CARE OF US TO MAKE OUR STAY WOUNDERFUL THE RACKET COMING FROM THE OTHER ROOM WAS SLOVED BY THE EMPOYEE WORKING THAT NIGHT THANK YOU DOREEN SOMNER
I wouldn't stay there again. I was treated poorly by the hotel staff and service seemed to be inexistent except for the very nice cleaning lady. It's over priced for what it is and shouldn't be so well rated. the service was the worst I've ever experienced. The manager yelled at me with no apparent issue. He yelled for something that had happened the previous night.
Excellent front desk, very friendly with good suggestions about restaurants and things to do. The room was very large and clean, the king size bed was wonderful with top quality sheets. The location cannot be beat for those interested in the Old City. This hotel is right in the middle of Old San Juan and our window view faced out over unsightly rooftops -- but there is no way for the hotel to address this problem! No coffee machine in room (would have been nice since our flight left before the breakfast room opened).
perfect position downtown of Old San Juan Following our stay in this Hotel, we were not happy with our selection: 1th - the room had no windows 2nd - we had less than 18° C (approx. 64° F) in our room because the air condition could not be regulated or switched off. After the first night we made a complaint on the lobby. Following their caretaker tried to close the fan / blower in the rooms - but without sucess. The morning after we had taken a beautiful cold for the next 3 days... For this hotel we can't make any recommandation - also when the position is perfect downtown of Old San Juan.
Location This hotel required me to give them my credit card number upon arrival. Which I did. But my room was already bought and paid for through Booking.com three months earlier. I then spent a week on a cruise ship and never used my credit card again. When I returned home I found that my credit card had been used for a booking at the Sheraton (an unauthorized charge since I never stayed there) Since S & J Suites is the only place that recieved my credit card number my assumption is that the number was stolen and by someone at the S & J Suites and used fraudulently. I have turned the matter over to the fraud unit at my credit card company for their investigation. The night manager's name who took my credit card # at the S & J Suites is Angel.
The front desk was very helpful and accommodating. Rooms were big and quite comfortable. Our room had a view of an old building, but who cares, we weren't there for the view. No coffee/tea maker in room. A/C way too cold, but was adjusted when asked.
Staff was friendly and helpful. Location was excellent-close to many good restaurants and the cruise ship terminal. Room smelled very musty. There was no window nor any way to control the room's temperature. It was very cold in the room.
the continental breakfast was terrible. just bad coffee and white bread
Large rooms, sparsely furnished, but very clean. The hotel staff was incredibly friendly and helpful.
Convenient location, clean rooms noisy, poor air conditioning, lights did not all work. No safe. no dead bolt/security chain. No continental breakfast as advertised. TV channels were few and uninteresting
The staff were very helpful in recommending good places for an authentic experience in old San Juan and helping with transportation. The rooms were very quiet, roomy and clean and the central location was perfect for walking around the city, day or night. The air conditioning is controlled in a central location and at times it got rather warm before the A/C kicked in.
The location is very central to visit the Old San Juan area. The description of the hotel indicates that they have parking, when I almost get there I called for directions to the parking and they said "We don't offer parking". Well the main reason I chose this hotel was because of the parking, I know for sure that parking in Old San Juan can be a nightmare. To make it worse, it Rained, but that's not the hotels fault of course.
Staff was very nice when asked for directions to different points of interest in Puerto Rico. Prompt in giving us towels. Lady working during the day is just wonderful. Showed us an awesome bakery to buy mallorca and other goodies located close to the hotel. A great hotel to stay away from the tourist area.
Price, large room with kitchenette, AC Nasty polyester sheets, dirty towel in bathroom, indifferent staff who called a cab that tried to rip us off, loud music until 5am on the street right outside our window. Hotel is not in bad neighborhood but there is a big club/party scene right there.
Great value, nice location in university area, basic continental bkfst, clean and comfortable rooms. We were staying there just one night before early morning flight from SJ airport. Less than 10 mins from airport. We had 2 adults and 2 kids under 2 with us, and the room with 2 double beds worked great.
I've had a pleasant stay on many occasions except this time. I stayed in 2 rooms and had to ask for the linen to be changed in both. Hair was found in the blanket on both beds! Gross!! Once is an oversight, twice is an issue.
The professionalism is A+++++. We missed our flight and the staff did everything possible to accommodate us back to the hotel. We were so happy and thankful for their services. None
It was clean, in order and as expected. Very inexpensive and welcoming. The bathroom is small, but what else does one need. Not much else is neededZ if you want a large bathroom, this isn't the place for you. If you are okay with what a human needs, it's perfect.
The staff was hands down some of the best i have ever dealt with. Location was good, within walking distance from the beach, plenty of places to eat at the hotel and in the surrounding area. You have to pay for parking no matter if you are a guest of the hotel, which is very ridiculous. The floor needed to be vacuumed and the shower was dirty.
The Wine and Tapas Bar was short handed. During special events the Bar needs two peop l e to staff. The food was very good but the distance from kitchen is a problem. Better communications needed.
Very basic room, but very comfortable beds and great view. Very good location in the Condado sector of San Juan, and the price was excellent. Lovely beach, parking available and close to variety of restaurants and shops. When we first arrived there was no one at the desk and the door was locked with no note as to when someone would be back (ie. after lunch). But someone did come within a half hour.
The staff was very friendly and helpful--some of the best I've ever encountered in my travels. Beautiful location right on the beach, but not convenient for travelers without a car as the buses are neither frequent or reliable. Also- the hotel sits adjacent to an area that is not just unsafe, it's dangerous. Three short blocks from the hotel are gates that are closed to vehicular traffic and pedestrian traffic at dark. We were told by many that it was very unsafe to walk, even in the early evening, and were also advised not to be on the beach after dark other than directly in front of the hotel. A taxi or car is necessary to go just about anywhere. The hotel is rustic at best and looks like it hasn't seen much upkeep. The absolutely superb staff makes up for some of this, but overall the place is lacking.
The proximity to the water. We like to walk on the beach. The restaurant overlooking the ocean. Bed was firm. The windows of our room overlooked a storage room and the window treatment were the cheapest plastic louvers you can buy = employees are in your room.
Staff were freindly but slow getting drinks or requests about room- Hotel had lost my initial reservation and gave me an "upgraded room". Hot water for shower was minimal No hot water, drinks are pricey as is the food from the restaurant, "scarey" location for whites!
Great on the beach location. Food from restaurant was excellent. Access to hotel and hotel area is via gated entry which can cause problems especially during high traffic periods on weekends and such. We had difficulty getting our taxi into the property when we needed to go to the airport. Rooms are a bit dated and worn.
I like that hotel was right on the beach and we got chairs. The room was nice and clean. I didnt like breakfast, because we couldnt choose anything else, just from eggs and bacon.
The food was very good. The location on the beach was perfect. The proximity to old town Puerto Rico was good (short bus or taxi ride). The menu/carte was often inaccurate, with several choices unavailable. This extended to the cocktails at times. However the food and drinks that were available were very good.
nothing room was not made up by the time I was to check in, air conditioner was not working & I was told I would have 2 twin beds only had 1 queen. Horrible-will never stay at your facility again & will tell my friends & family not to ever stay there too
It was peacefull it was hard to drive up to it
Nice people beautiful staff nice place near everything good price clean suit awesome poil and good breakfast
Accessibility to FT Buchanan Room humidity, smelled funky, furniture had rust
close restaurant and the beach near no refrigerator in the room and fitness center
There was this one young lady she was very helpful and she took care of us the most she could. The rooms are crappy compared to the pictures, what you see is not what you get in the room. No microwaves nor fridges. I Definetly will not be staying in a comfort inn again because of all that!
It was dirty. I found underwear on the windowsill. The room was nothing like what it looks like on the website. It is in front of the beach but you can't even get in the water. I wouldn't go back there again.
This place is wonderful. The neighborhood is fun, the beach is close, and the hotel staff extremely friendly and helpful. the business is family owned and operated and it shows. Skip the big chain hotels and stay here; you won't regret it. Ventilation fans in the bathrooms would be a welcome addition.
Friendly and clean. It's in the middle of hospital. Parking was terrible, you had to drive around a one way street for more than a mile in a circle. Rooms look like they were part of a hospital.
This is a "hotel" on the top floor of a HOSPITAL. We couldn't figure out how to get in, we had to be escorted by hospital security guards just to find the "lobby." Then, there was no one at the desk to help us so we waited and waited. Finally a surly woman came up to check us in, but the attitude was not welcoming, it was more like why are you here. Our room was tiny and had no towels, the blinds were between two panes of glass so you couldn't open or close them. Sorry excuse of a place and we couldn't wait to get out of there. Also they charge you for parking.
Nice personel , best location, clean room Wifi disconnect every 5 sec, wall plug with no electricity,no parking for cars must pay extra for parking next door, security questions you every time you come in and out, no oficial entrence, no sign enywhere
The building is gorgeous. Spanish style authentic feeling villa with some personality. Fairly short walk to the beach for a reasonable room price. Airport a bit too close. Also, I'm pretty sure the room I stayed in had bedbugs, but that problem seems to plague a number of area hotels.
Value price Proximity to airport and beach That San Juan allows burning of rubber tires close to beach and airport. On landing it looked like an airport fire and filled the air with accrid smoke upon arrival. The pool of our hotel, our rental car and I'm sure everywhere in San Juan was covered in tire ash the next day so nothing was usable. It didn't affect our travel plans but something to note when booking a hotel in San Juan as they seem to do this all the time.
The rooms were good, clean and were what we needed after a day of traveling or on the beach! Needs better WIFI access, other than that all was good.
Horrible hotel not worth the 100 bucks Everything
Friendly staff, and clean comfortable rooms At check in, I was told kitchen was open until 10pm. Upon arrival to the restaurant at 9:20pm, I was told the kitchen was closed.
Friendly staff, great location.
Location No extra parking for guest and they only had valet parking for an extra charge. Very small parking area.
