Great breakfast and comfortable public room and desk staff.
The room was large and had a window seat and a fireplace. the breakfast was great--real scrambled eggs, crispy bacon, sausage and fried potatoes as well as fresh pinapple and all the other usual ammenities. It was a perfect location for visiting my son's family in Rockridge--and easy drive. There weren't enough parking places. The sink was so small with no counter space (though they did provide a little cabinet over the toilet. the double bed was comfortable for one but when my husband arrived we sank in the middle. It would have been nice to have a place to plug in cell phones, etc. on both sides of the bed. A person we know who stayed there complained about having a very small room but we were in the main house and didn't have that problem.
The staff is friendly, welcoming, laid back, and very gracious. Our room (the Honeymoon Suite, I believe) was enormous and had some charm. It's great to be walking distance from campus, and to have offstreet parking (although we had to use street parking overnight 2 of our 4 nights at the Rose Garden Inn). Breakfast is very good -- although there's no change day-to-day, so it gets a little boring if you're staying multiple days. The Rose Garden Inn is quirky & seems a little bit down on its heels. There was dust under the sink (which is in the room, not in the bathroom -- not even close to it) and there are places in & around the tub where the plaster suggests water leaks. Worse yet, untold thousands of gallons of water are wasted because the faucet & shower aren't water-conserving and the water just gushes out. And the difficulty sending a fax proved to be a problem for me. Our 3rd floor room was lovely, but too hot to spend much time in the bedroom during the day and early evening. The ceilings are high, so it would have been a challenge for some guests to negotiate the multiple flights of stairs to the third floor. The staff is lovely -- but, that said, the fax I sent myself (twice) finally arrived 2 days after I'd sent it; this should be an easy fix, but I'm not certain it will be. I'd stay here again, but it wouldn't necessarily be my first choice.
A great introduction to the Berkeley scene for my grandson from the East Coast to check out my Alma Mater. An unexpected upgrade to the suite on the top floor added a special sparkle to the occasion. Walking distance to the campus was a great convenience, and several choices of nearby unusual restaurants made us wish we could have stayed longer. The layout of the breakfast area was a bit confusing; it took a while to figure out what was available and we came at a rather popular and congested time.
Staff was friendly and helpful during check in. Breakfast was great! Choose this option if you can. Freshly cooked sausage, bacon, and eggs among many other items. They also offered fresh baked cookies midday. Location was close to Oakland where we spent most of our time. Rooms were well kept. Wi-fi was good. Room service was delicious, but pricy (through an outside vendor). A bit confusing to figure out where the main office/concierge was from the parking lot because the inn has many small buildings. I picked the wrong building at first. An arrow sign pointing to the concierge would have been nice. No AC, but there was an operational ceiling fan and open window are enough to cool the room. 2 small parking lots on either side of the property. Thankfully, we always found a spot.
Nothing Dirty facility. Disgusting filth behind bed which I found looking forvan outlet. The only outlet available in the bedroom was barely functional. Nothing stayed plugged in. The room made me want to sleep completely clothed. Ew.
I really loved the place. It's quaint and gorgeous and a very serene setting. I was doing business at UC Berkeley and was able to walk from to the university. It is not as sterile as other hotels and has a lot of character. The rooms are a little small but were fine for what I was looking for. The price was right and it is overall a very pleasant place to stay. If I ever venture back into Berkeley I already know where I'm staying. I didn't have a microwave or refrigerator in my room but I had access to a microwave in the lobby and was able to keep my beer cold with ice.
Like staying in an old Victorian home. Surrounded by tended gardens , with a courtyard and airy breakfast room. My room had an old-fashioned appearance and a gas fireplace. Staff was very friendly and accommodating. location is great, a short walk from UC Berkeley. Parking was a bit tight. My bathroom could have used an upgrade, but worked well.
pleasant welcome, nuce garden. good location the room was small and poor. need urgent maintenance - nothing functioned.
Very nice and polite service. Lack of a desk or a table and a strong-box in the room, thin walls - you can hear everything in other rooms, old equipment
Location Everything else. Possibly the worst motel i have ever stayed at.
Good location Staff was rude. They made my wife cry.
..... 1. Thin walls, could hear neighboring rooms conversations clearly. 2. cockroach in bathroom. 3. when my travelling partner tried to return to the room after visiting with friends the key card did not work. I was not there but the friend walked him to the hotel. This was 9 hours after checking in. The attendant was rude and refused to rekey the card without an argument then a scolding after. Ridiculous.
The hotel accommodated free guest parking for every guest. Compared to other hotels the price was lower,. San Francisco is expensive though. Many guests smoking in front of their rooms. One person even had laundry hanging by their door.
Location Friendly staff Only one elevator Limited parking space
Quick cab to union square, had cute diners and deli's right across the street. Great hotel if you're looking for something affordable but clean and near the heart of the city. We were only there one night and barely in the room so we weren't looking for luxury. Breakfast was just a few items, but didn't affect us at all.
Great place! Location, value and friendly! Will be back!
Cheap, good location. No bedbugs! While I was there, a car got broken into in the parking garage- right next to my car. Their window was broken and someone stole their expensive luggage.
Front office staff very friendly. Rooms were dated and it was under construction. Had to be moved to a second room because of a leak and the room not being cleaned yet.
Location close to Muni and decent value for the money. Internet connection and speed could have been better and faster. Too many disconnection and slow at times. It will be nice to have dedicated area for free breakfast, instead of to go and have it in your own room.
good location very noisy
Convenient location near SF places of interest. Good value and very helpful staff. Rooms comfortable, with enough space to get organised. The continental breakfast was unusual for the British taste. Some of the rooms could be noisy, being close to a busy road but this is a subjective view.
Only the location. They say that there is internet connection throughout the hotel, but in fact, you can use it only on the 2nd floor. If you are on 3 or 4th floor, you should go to the 2nd to be able to connect the internet. Also, unbelievably, they do not have parking..
Great location. The hotel is right off the 30 bus line. Nice and friendly staff. Good small free breakfast. Great value for the money. Not the warmest blankets they had a few holes in them, but everything was clean and smelled nice.
very good hotel, clean, open 24/24.it isn't very central but there are 2 buses lines across the street. very good continental breakfast with milk, thè, coffe, very good banana muffins and eggs. ther's only some noisy of traffic, but we are so exhausted for tour and we stay very ok!!!
The Marina Inn staff were exceptionally warm, friendly, and helpful. Our deluxe queen was spacious, clean and very pretty. The location is excellent- close to the water, many reasonably priced delicious restaurants, and boutique shopping. I highly recommend the Marina Inn The included breakfast was very basic. There was sandwich bread (next to a toaster), hard boiled eggs, yogurt, a few bananas and orange juice.
The room was pretty nice overall. The bed was nice, and the area was pretty beautiful. a walking distance (for those who like to wonder around the city), to many cool places. When I got to the room, the carpet was a little wet, so I guess it might had a problem in a rainy day.
Front desk quite helpful & friendly The location is great, and is very close to Chestnut Street with the Muni bus system. Overall I will stay here again, now that I know how things work. Did get good rate ($80/nite) Cold: no heat & only 1 thin blanket Lukewarm shower - will get hot one if the water is run about 10 minutes or so, per front desk - but didn't know this for the first morning:( Not enough towels (no washcloths/bath towels) Solutions: Front desk was great about giving me everything I needed. Got initially second blanket -almost slept well and then W/3rd blanket slept better. Wall heater nonfunctional. Whoever cleans the room does not replace the towels - just takes the used ones away. Continental breakfast: ok, didn't see the hard boiled eggs first day as the are on shelf below eye level.
The room was relatively clean. The carpet in the hallway was about 2000 years old. It was extremely dirty that I wanted to throw up. There was no ironing board or iron in the room so if you're here for a meeting that will be a problem. There was no parking so if you rent a car, you will have to drive around and around to find parking. There are other motels and inn within couple blocks and those have parking. There was no thermostat in the room so you can't control temperature in your room. I would go somewhere else if I has known how it was before I came.
I was allowed to check in early. Great value for the room. Located within walking distance to several bus stops. Good restaurants nearby. Glad it didn't have shared bathrooms either. No A/C. I had to open the windows to cool my room down, and then the traffic was too loud to enjoy watching television.
convient to my conference at fort mason, reasonably priced, convient access to fisherman's wharf, comfortable rooms a little small
The location is fairly good, nearby food and shops and 45 min walk to pier 39. The quality is bad. The bed was horrible, i was glad it was time to get up in the morning because the bed made my back hurt. My wife had the same. The shower made alot noise, same for all other showers which we heard in the morning. Our promised breakfast was nothing more then milk and pre-packaged muffins. We decided to go out for breakfast in the end. For $65 this was not good enough. I think most reviews here are based on the hotel years ago. However it clearly aged without maintenance.
for trips to san francisco the hotel is very good located - near the highway; the rooms are very nice and clean the location of the hotel is in a dangerous area of oakland (we found out afterwards); someone broke in our rental car (nissan versa 4) and stole our holder for the navigation system .. not very important or expensive but because of the broken window in our car we had a lot of trouble; the hotel stuff didn't help us in any way to solve our problems .. they didn't even gave us the phone number of the police station ...
Dirty! Really dirty! I don't know why they got those good revives, I travel a lot, and read reviews before I book my hotels, this one was a totally mistake!
Nothing. I hated my room. The shower curtain had mold and some of the towels were ripped.
The staff were pretty nice. Dirty mattresses. Molded shower curtains. Dirty furniture.
They had great customer service and the rooms were super clean. The bathroom, while clean, could use a bit of a face lift. This isn't necessarily a con, just a suggestion.
Free parking. We stayed here because there weren't any rooms free in San Francisco which was our destination. We stayed here for 4 days and overall it was very good. The biggest plus is polite and extremely friendly owner and his son who did us a favor after something went screwed with our reservations. Rooms are fairly clean, and really spacious with a tv inside. I gave max points for location but for Oakland, for San Francisco this location is good only if you have a car. We found some hair on the pillow on the first night. There was always problem with towels, every night we asked for 2 big towels for showering, and got them, but the next morning we would again be given 2 small ones. Got soap only after asking for it. Wireless working a bit, and then not working...
The room , the colors , and the cleaness of the room I didn't like that you could not renew your stay
comfort Performing the work of servicing personnel
The hotel looked a little dingy from the outside, so we were pleasantly surprised when we walked into the room. We got a free upgrade at check in which we were very happy with. The room had free wifi and we could park our car close to the room for free. Staff was friendly and helpful. The hotel is close to the bart station, so it's quick and easy to get to Berkeley. The neighborhood is not too nice, it's not a good place to walk around by yourself after dark and there was some noise outside during the night.
I didn't care for the third floor.
good selection of breakfast items
close to the heart of the city. comfortable, the minimum needed. it's ok for a few nights. breakfast it's poor.
I didn't like the fact that during our stay we found bed bugs in both of the beds in our room. The staff also seemed irritated when we asked for help with the heating system.
Cheap for san francisco with free parking. No ac. Worn out looking interior.
Location was OK. Carpet dirty, door didn't lock well (can be kicked open by a 4 year old). Won't advice this hotel, will pay more money for a better hotel next time.
The cleaning staff was very nice and kinda. Super friendly made sure we had all we needed. The front desk guy was pretty rude. He looked annoyed at every question we had.The hotel rooms need some work for sure .
Great location in SF. Easy to walk around the city and close to great eateries and bus stops. And free parking! Close to the street so a bit loud. The free breakfast was merely toast and orange juice. And there wasn't enough parking for the amount of rooms available.
Service, breakfast, location Limited parking, 3PM check in and 11AM check out
Less-than-desirable location/neighborhood, but overall a good, budget room.
The place has a great location, near most places we wanted to visit. The room was and smelled clean and beds were comfortable. We only stayed one night in San Francisco, we got there at 10pm and checked out around 10am next morning. Shower not working properly, we had to work around it to make it work. Overall bathroom didn't looked as clean as the rest of the room. Our room was very close to the road so it was very noisy...
Convenient location, great value,
The location was great. Close to Chestnut St, stores, restaurants, and such. Free parking. The cleaning lady was the only nice person around the building. Walked in, room and carpet was filthy, stains everywhere. Suprisingly the sheets were clean. The room was 100 degrees, no A/C. Had to open the window with no screen all night. Homeless people sleeping in the parking lot. The front desk manager was quite rude, no personality and took forever to check us in.
Attractive front, quiet. Uncomfortable beds, gum on wall directly next to the bed. Awkward bathroom arrangement.
The staff are great price was very good facility and the rooms are clean Underneath this place is a saloon that has multiple live performances per night and practices during the day (every day of the week). It is worth noting that the staff will do their best to move you to a better room Cleaning staff decided not to empty my trash for 4 days shared Bathroom and and shower
Nothing at all, it was awful The whole floor has to share one bathroom it was disgusting and old. Isn't even in a good part of San Fransisco, and a loud nasty bar was directly under the hotel. If you're looking for a cheap stay I'd drive a little further out of the city and get a decent hotel for the same price.
The Utah in is very simple in what you get. In what you get, they do a very good job. The location isn't the best. Probably not appropriate for families and would suit single travelers best.
Nothing The location. The staff. The shared bathroom. I couldn't shower for 3 days because every time I went to go use the shower, someone was using it or there was standing water left in the tub from the last person using it. It was disgusting.
