Pros: The venue is a familiar business. Everything there is as if one had ever lived with these people. They are always ready to help. The room was big, new and spotless. Location is very good, next to the market. Bus station is 1,1 km away. Breakfast is normal, but enough.

Pros: The deluxe doubles are very modern and spacious I'm not sure the standard ones are as nice. It's very modern with a great hot shower and it's nice and green in the little patio area
Cons: It's a bit short on amenities with just a bit of soap supplied, would be nice to have shampoo, liquid soap as it's not that cheap compared to other options
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Workers are friendly, kidness is their first value
Cons: Facilities, breakfast

9.6 Excellent
Pros: The whole Hostería Is a beautiful place to stay at Lago San Pablo. The room was very clean and the whole Hostería Is decorated with lots of love. Breakfast was included and consisted of fresh juice, scrambled eggs, sandwiches and fresh coffee. The host is more than friendly, she took very good care of us. She even brought us a hot water bag for the night. The jacuzzi is amazing and worth every penny, they even had a good selection of wines. We definitely consider to come back.
Cons: The surrounding isn't quite nice and they don't accept credit card.
7.9 Good
Pros: Beautiful garden
Cons: Room was cold and WiFi only poor to fair in the room.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful courtyard, dinner area. The owners very friendly and accommodating.
Cons: Only minor issue we had was the hot water in the shower was inconsistent.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The hosts go above and beyond to make sure you are comfortable and taken care of. The food is amazing! A gem in the middle of true indigenous culture.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: It was beautiful.... very nicely kept. And the lady was so accommodating.... we truly enjoyed our stay
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Rosa and her daughter Gabriela have been fantastic with us and did everything to please us. They even provided transport to Otavalo and helped in every way for things like finding an ATM in town. The service includes a nice breakfast and you can have dinner within this nice hotel the rooms of which are situated around a courtyard and a beautiful garden. The rooms are nice and comfortable. Rosa will bring you a bouillotte with wat water to warm your feet during the night. There is also a jacuzzi offering relaxation at any time of the day.
Cons: The premises are very tastefully built and situated like an oasis in the middle of a rather uninspiring area. Unfortunately we need to say that the quality of sleep is very poor here. There was very loud music from 6 am from nearby churches in a Sunday morning and gun shootings till very late. The location was also rather difficult to reach even by taxi so it is best to call ahead Rosa to give instructions to the driver.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything? Rosa went out of her way to make our stay a delight.
Cons: Nothing.

Cons: Very difficult to get to the hotel. It’s located on a hill which affords wonderful views, but the roads leading to the hotel are dirt and gravel and poorly maintained.

Cons: Nothing
7.9 Good
Pros: The room size is big and the beds were comfy.
Cons: The building it self is very noisy so you can hear all your neighbours. Unfortunately when we were there there was a group children and the night staff just joined them at 3am instead of keeping them quiet.
7.9 Good
Pros: rates are good during weekdays but prices go up for the Saturday market, which maybe acceptable for some, but for us budget traveller we need to look elsewhere. we arrived night time and the young staff in the evening are quiet nice and helpful. hotel is a bit outdated or perhaps just our room, but overall clean.

9.2 Excellent
Pros: From Balcony or your bunk bed you can seen whole Ottavalo sarounded by mountain. In the evening it was amazing.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great location with a beautiful view! Very comfortable beds, a nice little terrace and a kitchen with all you need. The owner is very friendly and happily explains everything there is to see around Otavalo. Best choice in town I would say!
8.3 Excellent
Pros: A bit concerned when we first arrived but the place quickly grows on you. Not too far from town but away from the noise. Secure access. Staff's English skills are limited but Oswaldo is a friendly and helpful host. Special mention to Jenny who did our washing for us (and needs to put her price up).
Cons: Room was smaller than we'd thought, hampered by an unnecessary lounge chair where there could be a storage unit (but what a view!) The larger triple room would be a better choice if you like to spread out. Shower could have been hotter but that is the case for our stays in Guayaquil, Mindo and Quito too. Having a supply of maps in various languages on hand would be beneficial.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The cabins were very well designed and kitted out. The views were fantastic from the property and it was only a short walk from town.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The hostel is beautiful. You have a room but you are connected to the nature and the outdoors as well. Perfect for me. I do not like stuffy hotels. The staff is amazing. Oswald told me about all of the places I can go and how to get there. He even come up to my room personally and gave me medicine and tea when I felt sick from all my traveling. There is a full kitchen so you can prepare meals and a laundry station so you can hand wash your laundry. The only thing was that the shower water was not very hot and on a cold night that doesn’t feel very good. That is a small problem though. If you want to walk to El Lechero, the cóndor park, and the waterfall you can walk from the hostel. It is a beautiful, unpaved path through the mountains and the indigenous communities. Be prepared though it is an all day adventure. You can also easily take a taxi. Supermarket and other sites are a 5 minute walk. Thank you for your hospitality! Good luck!
Cons: Shower water is not very hot
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The bed and blankets are super super comfortable. Hot/warm shower 95% of the time (as compared to alternating 50% warm/cold showers at other hostels). And the hot water heats up fast enough for Ecuador standards. I stayed one extra night just because of the comfort. For once I don’t feel cold in the room. Good views from the dining area and free filtered water. There’s a kitchen and fridge too. The owner is super kind to make me a simple breakfast on my last day and drove me to the bus terminal without me asking! I realised he was waiting for me to finish my breakfast to drive me over, how nice! No english but he was patient with google translation so there’s no problem.
Cons: You need maps.me to locate the place - it’s not sign-posted, but with the app, I found the place immediately. 3 mins walk from Hostal chashuiq (something like that), once you take the stairs up (or the slope), it’s 1-2 mins away. After the entrance, theres a lot of stairs to climb to get into the actual Hostal and it’s not lit so the walk is in the dark. Not for people with walking problems or heavy suitcase. I’m not complaining as I really like my room, but this is for your info in case it matters.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: What an amazing place to stay! Really cute and cozy cabins that allow you to fully relax. The rooms are spacious, beds are comfy, and always hot water. The view of the city is incredible from the garden terrace. Oswaldo and Jenny are extremely nice, helpful, and always avaialble to answer any questions. Such a cheap and affordable price for a boutique stay!

Pros: Alberto is gracious and extremely helpful. He has excellent local knowledge of things to do places to go. He speaks excellent english. A wonderful man.Large room with authentic indigenous art and furniture. Comfortable bed. Very clean good hot water and shower pressure. Fully equipped kitchen. Purified water to refill water bottles or make complimentary coffee or tea. Just 2 rooms. Beautiful common area. In the heart of the city but very long hallway puts rooms about 100 feet from street noise. Quieter than less central places I have stayed in Banos and Puerto Lopez. Best place I have stayed in 5 trips to Latin America
Cons: Nothing. Best place I have stayed in 5 trips to Latin America.
10.0 Excellent

10.0 Excellent
Pros: We liked the comfortable couch in the restaurant area right in front of the fire. The restaurant area was very nice overall, with cute decor and games and dogs to pet. The room was very comfortable and the bathroom was very clean. And the views were great. And we liked relaxing in the hammocks.
Cons: There was only WiFi in the restaurant/ reception area. Since it was kind of in the middle of nowhere (which we liked), there was no cell service in the room, so it would have been good to have WiFi to be able to communicate if necessary.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Enjoyed the views and the fireplace in our room in the evening.
Cons: Hot water a little tricky.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: La Luna was magical. The owners and staff were lovely, welcoming and very helpful. The property is beautiful, located out of town, with great views and 4 gorgeous and friendly dogs. The food was great, the included breakfasts were different every day, and always generous and delicious. Great coffee. I was in the dorm, which was spacious and clean. There was hot water and good water pressure.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful views from our room, very cosy dining area and brilliant staff who went out of their way to help us with our onward journey plans
Cons: Nothing, it’s perfect in every way
9.2 Excellent
Pros: The place is cozy and well maintained, staff very polite and breakfast delicious! Rooms are a bit small but we spent most time in the restaurant area that has a great couch in front of the fireplace. It’s a perfect place to relax, although a bit far from the city so it depends what you’re looking for.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful getaway in the Andes Mountains!
Cons: While I appreciated the out of the way location -- even with the provided map it was hard to find, and getting to and from the city center was a challenge at night with Taxi's. I would suggest working on a system to pick people up from the market -- calling a Taxi to La Luna was find but making our way back was frustrating.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great place in the middle of nature
Cons: None

10.0 Excellent
Pros: We really liked this apartment. First of all, it was HUGE - it included three bedrooms, a kitchen and a pretty big living room. There was also a nice breakfast, and they were willing to serve it to us in the hour that was convenient for us (in our case - quite late in the morning!). The apartment was quiet and comfortable. It wasn't in the center of town, but it wasn't a long walk away from there (I recall about 10 minutes, something like that) (we never even thought to use a taxi to go back and forth). It was definitely great value for money, and we recommend staying there.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great place to stay! Comfy beds, clean, nice service, free laundry. Also walking to the place is safe (although outside the main center). Highly recommend.
Cons: Nothing not to like. Only thing to note is the person who takes care of the place does not speak english, so just be prepared to converse a bit in spanish but you should be fine :)
6.3 Good
Pros: Price and location
Cons: Very thread bare. Noisy at night.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Friendly host. Very well equiped.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The spacious apartment was a great place to land. Our host was gracious and helpful in every way.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Nina and Edison are wonderful hosts and very sweet people. The guesthouse was nicely furnished, clean, and in a great location about 10 minutes walk from the center of Otovalo. Excellent value!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Clean, friendly,, great location and a Great breakfast
Cons: Nothing
10.0 Excellent
Pros: This was an amazing place to stay in Otavalo! The apartment is huge -- 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, a full kitchen, a living/dining room, and two balconies -- and everything was lovingly cared for. I can't say enough good things especially about Edwin, who checked us in, carried our bags to the second floor, made us a delicious, hearty breakfast, guided us to the animal market, and even helped us with getting our rental car washed! He is such a professional, as well as being warm, friendly, and anticipating one's needs. While he does not speak English, he works hard to communicate. A little Spanish really helps. The apartment is just a few blocks from the famous Otavalo market. NOTE: We had a little trouble finding the house. It is in the third block on the right past the bridge. Drive or have the taxi drive around to the back side of the block, and you will find the gate with "Andes Guesthouse" on it. I knocked on that gate, and Edwin immediately appeared.
Cons: Everything was great! There was nothing we didn't like.

Featured amenities include dry cleaning/laundry services, a 24-hour front desk, and luggage storage. A roundtrip airport shuttle is provided for a surcharge (available 24 hours).
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Hot shower
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Flying Donkey became more than just a hostel for us during the period where there was a massive protest in Ecuador and tourists were trapped in Otavalo. they allow us to cook food (when all restaurants and shops are closed), let us extend out stay for the same price( i heard some hostel/hotels in area started to increase price) and genuinely concern for our well-being. i am speaking on behalf of all the guest, thank you very much. stay here guys, this hostel is one of the best in Otavalo!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: I stayed in the Hostel during the nationale strike in Ecuador. Si everything was closed and there was no transport. The people of the reception gave us very good information about what was happening and what are options were. The kitchen is very cleen and confortable. Also a very nice rooftopterras.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: We had a nice, small room with everything we needed, but we just stayed there one night to go to the big market on saturday. For that the location is really nice, because the hostel is located in the centre and maybe a two-minute walk from the beginning of the market.
Cons: The bed was a little bit hard and the room was basic, but for the price that was alright.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Located right in the centre of Otavalo, great staff, well equipped kitchen. Clean and comfortable rooms, good showers.
7.9 Good
Pros: Comfortable bed and clean, they give you free towel. Kitchen was well equipped. Michelle the staff is nice. Got hot shower, apparently a lot of other hostels don't have it.
Cons: Really really noisy. The only social place is the kitchen, the night I arrived from the Colombia border, just wanted to cook quickly and went to bed. But a group of people in the hostel decided to cook together, they took over the place and even after finishing their meals, they stayed there playing really loud musics and singing until really late, and occupied the table even if I need a table to eat, so I had to go eat at the reception sofa. Since my dorm room was just across the kitchen, I could hear everything from the kitchen. And the staff didn't say anything to them until the other guests also couldn't stand it, that they asked the staff to go tell them. The second night again, some people were in the kitchen recording their song, and although it's really nice song, but after you heard it for 50 times, you felt annoyed too. The hostel should have a quite time rule since the only social place is the kitchen and it's next to the rooms and please put one more table... The hostel was behind the theater, so in my dorm, every day from day to night I was forced to listen to the horror movie IT and the sound of the plumber. Don't know how to describe if it's sociable or not, the first night, so many people, even too crowded, the second night, all of the people gone.. Only one old grandpa there, he said he has lived in the hostel, he is nice but a bit weird and like to tell you what you should do or not to do...I didn't stay in a hostel to have someone preaching me. WiFi was poor.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: This Hostel was well located, within working distance of all of the major attractions. Dianna in reception was very friendly and helpful. She explained to us how to catch a local bus to the next town to see the Animal Market. This is not to be missed. We left early at 5.50am and got there in plenty of time to see the real authentic action and were the only non-Ecuadorans that we could see. The Plaza of Ponchos and all of the markets were very overwhelming - too much to see. The room itself was spacious and comfortable. Great hot shower with excellent water pressure. The kitchen was well organised with plenty of equipment. The WiFi worked well, but it was best to move towards the central staircase to get the strongest signal. We were able to walk to the Bus Terminal and buy a return ticket for $2.50 per person - much cheaper than any package tour.
Cons: Nothing - we loved everything about this place! Would have liked to have spent more than 2 nights here.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Great location, comfortable bed and cozy room decor. Highly recommend this hostal for a one night stay or a week!

Cons: Nothing!!!
8.8 Excellent
Pros: La Casa del Lago is a bed and breakfast located just outside the city of Otavalo. The host is very friendly and accomodating. We had a lovely room with a beautiful view of the valley and Imbabura. The hot water did not work the first night we were there but did work on day two. It is a bit out of town, so you cannot walk to dinner and they do not serve lunch or dinner at the bnb; however, we were able to order a pizza from town and have it delivered for a small fee. Alternatively, you could pay $2-3 for a taxi and go into town for dinner.

Pros: I loved the family atmosphere in this place, and the fact that you can learn a lot about the local culture. Everyone has been super friendly and helpful, and the location is simply stunning!! The best room I have ever slept in... so stylish!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: It was so pretty and peaceful. I loved the gardens and all the animals.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Jose and family were just so welcoming! The farm is extremely relaxing. The dogs are so loving. The other travelers were awesome. The location is beautiful. If you are looking for a rural farm stay with a local Quechua family where you cook your own meals and chill with fellow laid-back travelers, El Tio is awesome. If you are looking for a typical "hostel" experience, this is not the place for you!
Cons: Really cannot think of anything.
7.9 Good
Pros: Super stay close to nature which I recommend taking for a couple of days so to wind in properly and fully enjoy the experience. Being in the nature one cannot expect certain comforts and when I was there the place was full so i also needed some time to get used to living in a community field. Unfortunately I didn’t have much days but I fully enjoyed it and I will surely go back. The hosts are a gem
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Great location, el tio and his family are ver nice:) If you like dogs, you will be pleased!
9.2 Excellent

Pros: We absolutely loved our stay, Tio and his family are such wonderful people! It’s cozy, and the dogs are AMAZING! A very friendly environment for travelers as well. It’s off the beaten track and is peaceful and tranquil! Muchas gracias Tío!!! Perfect spot to stay if you’re on your way to Colombia or on your way into Ecuador, or just want to get away from it all.
Cons: Nothing! It was very dusty because you’re on the farm, but that’s what we expected.

Pros: Very nice location, quiet and you can see the whole town of Otavalo from here
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Hosts very kind and available for any request
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Friendly staff. Very helpful even drove us to the bus stop to get to Colombia. Room was really comfortable with nice views and hot showers. Nice breakfast. Would stay here again.
Cons: It’s up a hill, which can be tough walk with your back pack.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Staff was very friendly and warm. It's a bit outside of the town center (about 10 minutes walking distance) so quite calm and laid back.
Cons: Breakfast was a bit small, but good.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Absolutely charming hostel with lovely kind hosts. Located just above the pleasant town of Otavalo in Ecuador it allows for easy convenient access but a quiet place to come home to. Can't say enough good things about our hosts as they have made us feel like one of the family.
Cons: Lacking in selection of TV channels but didn't have much time anyway
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Price / Quality is the best we experienced last 3 month in Ecuador! Hostal is ran by very helpful and friendly indigenous Quechua family. Room was very clean. Located quietly with a beautiful view on Otavalo. Walking down is easy and if you don't want to walk up , a taxi costs $2. Walk down to Plaza de Ponchos is approx. 5-10 min. Price even includes a breakfast (fresh juice, warm croissant, scrambled egg, butter, marmalade). We definitely come back!
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The place is very charming with a beautiful view. The staff is kind and helpful. Our room was big and we slept well. We could hear the noise from the town in the distance and I could not imagine being able to get any sleep there. Mostly due to large amount of strays everywhere barking and howling. The breakfast was basic but sufficient and served on time. Overall, it is a beautiful experience to stay here but would recommend a cheap taxi ride or having own transport to town
Cons: The location is a trade off between being able to sleep and either having transport or walking through pack of dogs up/down very steep hill
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Overall this place is a real gem. The owners are so incredibly kind and helpful. It’s located about a 10 minute walk outside of the town of Otavalo. The rooms are spacious and comfortable, though do more there is no heating and it does get chilly at night.
Cons: The breakfast is tasty but a bit small, could use some fruit or something additional. There also was a wedding or something RIGHT outside the hotel one night that was incredibly loud until 2 am, not sure if this is common and obviously not the fault of the hotels, but we could not sleep.

9.0 Excellent (174 reviews)
Overview Reviews
A stay at Hostal Riviera Sucre places you in the heart of Otavalo, steps from Plaza de Ponchos and 11 minutes by foot from Otavalo Animal Market. The front desk is staffed during limited hours.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful, large, historic property converted into a hotel with the owner still living on premises. Beds were comfy and layers of beautiful blankets to keep warm. Gardens and large patios to eat breakfast and relax on. Only a block from the main park, Parque Bolivar, and surrounded by shops and restaurants. 7 easy blocks to Plaza de Ponchos where the main market is located.
Cons: Didn't realize that cash was required at check-out, so had to run to ATM a block away for a withdrawal. Not sure if this was covered in booking.com details or not.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great location in beautiful historic colonial building with lovely gardens. The staff was very accommodating allowing us to enjoy the comfortable common areas while waiting for our flight. It felt safe and secure. Beds had lots of blankets which was cozy on chilly nights.
7.9 Good
Pros: The location was very good, just a block or so from the main square. The rooms were very pleasant and the shower had lots of hot water. Breakfast was not included, but the breakfast restaurant had lots of affordable options. There is good security in that the door has to be buzzed open for leaving and returning, but this meant we were left on the street waiting to be buzzed in for several minutes sometimes.
Cons: Check-out was a bit opaque, as the desk agent added up our room and meal charges on a calculator and only showed us the final total, there was no detailed invoice provided. Also, even though the hotel takes cash only, the desk agent was unable to provide $7 in change when we were paying at check-out! If you only take cash, you should be able to provide at least a minimum of change.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Best breakfast! Lovely fresh rolls, eggs cooked (well) how you like them, fruit, granola, yoghurt, juice, hot chocolate. All very good! Nice garden to sit in Rooms are spacious with lovely old wooden features Hot shower with good pressure!

Cons: Quite a walk from the busstation
10.0 Excellent
Pros: This hotel is in a beautifully restored Spanish building from the 1800s. The owners paid close attention to details, making it a very comfortable place to stay. The rooftop views, garden sitting area, wine cellar, plentiful, tasty breakfast, and helpful staff made it stand out among the places we stayed on an extended trip in South America.

Pros: Building is charming. Staff was friendly and helpful. Centrally located.

Pros: Very nice hostel close to center of town with delicious breakfast and charming courtyard

Pros: Everything! It was a truly great experience!!!!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: A truly restorative place. Spotlessly clean and very comfortable. Away from the hustle and bustle of the towns and with some great walking from the doorstep. Owners are wonderful- very welcoming kind and helpful. A great kitchen and supplies available from San Pablo, a 45 minute walk away. Otherwise delicious home cooked meals available which were good value. Excellent breakfast with loads of coffee! A love of dogs essential.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Loved the view
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Wonderful host, splendid location, beautiful view, lovely breakfast. Reto is a nice host and had good tips about restuarants in the neighbourhood.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The mattress was firm and comfortable. The rooms were exceptionally clean and adequately spacious. We had a room with it's own balcony; highly recommend this. The breakfasts were delicious and more than adequate. The decor was unique and beautiful. The staff were amazing. The view was breath-taking. The property is well-kept with various trees, flowers, and bushes. The owner, Ana, waited up for us each night and greeted us, asking if we made it back okay, did we have a good time, etc. She also offered great recommendations for the area, and is a great conversationalist.
Cons: The length of time for available hot water for the shower was not sufficient. Believe they need a bigger tank to accommodate all of the guests. The climb up the rocky hill was challenging; not recommended for folks with physical limitations. Hoping the staff will put in a series of steps that goes all the way down the hill where the taxi drops you off/where you park your car. The dogs sat near our table and begged for food; annoying. One dog stole 1/2 of my friend's breakfast when she wasn't looking; but the staff did bring another whole breakfast for her.
7.1 Good
Pros: Ana was lovely and chatty, the view is amazing, the seating areas are comfortable and we enjoyed spending time there. The shower is excellent.
Cons: No kettle, cups or coffee and tea provided upstairs. No information about local area like walks etc. Everything had to be sought rather than provided. Beds too small.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The view will take your breath away and the people who run the hotel are amazing and friendly.
Cons: It is very cold in the night so be sure to bring matches or lighter to have a fire in the fireplace or to be able to light the oven. The pizza is very expensive but everyone enjoyed the flavour.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: In addition, we were stuck an additional 10 days during a nationwide strike. Within two days we were the only guests. The staff became family to us and will always be our Amigos of Ecuador!
Cons: Leaving the wonderful people of Otavalo who, in spite of the turmoil in the big cities, always greeted us with Buenos Dias.
2.5 Mediocre
Pros: Nothing
Cons: We stayed outside of the property for an hour ringing the door and nobody was there to received us, also they didn’t answered their phones
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We had a perfect stay, all of the People working here are super friendly! A special thanks to them for our fantastic stay! It is out of the center, but it is right next to the reserve with the waterfall and on the hill, a better place isn't possible! We walked to the center and it's a enjoyable 20minutes walk on an unused traintrack. The center is Nice but buzzy so we enjoyed nature here a lot more. Someone from te hostel recomended us to walk to 'el corazon de la montana', a beautiful walk upon the hill and back down, a few ours in the breathtaking scenery of mountains, villages and fields. We enjoyed the best Meals in the restaurant each night, tipical Ecuadorian Meals, cooked at high standards!
9.6 Excellent
Pros: We stayed two nights in this wonderful hotel, beautifully located on a slope overlooking forested hills, and the city of Otavalo in the background. The hotel is beautifully designed in adobe style, with loads of nice details, and many levels. We stayed in a room with an additional sitting room opening up in the garden. The hotel was quite empty when we were there, and it was a very serene environment. The room was great, good hot water, WIFI in the restaurant area only but worked fine. Staff was very friendly. We had dinner there as well, Due to low season we had to order it in advance. The food was very good. We made a hike during the day, going to the Peguche cascades, Inca cave, then climbing up the hill to the Condor Park (great bird show at 11.30) and then we hiked through the fields to Otavalo (nice market but rest of the town was not very special) and walked back to Peguche (check out the old building with walls dating back to 1613 which used to be a textile work, where local people were forced to work). Overall it was about 15 km walk.
Cons: Nothing major. Only thing is that when you come with your car, be prepared for an extremely steep part of the road in order to reach the hotel. Better park your car just before the steep slope in the meadow used as camping site.
9.6 Excellent
Cons: Having only one hairdryer in the whole hotel
10.0 Excellent
Pros: One bedroom suite very comfortable with great mountain view. Kiva fireplace and excellent decor. Wonderful architecture, outstanding service. Good restaurant.
Cons: Television,,,,,no English. Lot's of steps.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Location is out of the way of the downtown Otavalo. Beautiful views, surrounded by flowers, lots of birds. La Casa Sol is very tranquille, beautiful rooms, very tastefully decorated. Food is good, reasonably priced. The staff are very accommodating, efficient, friendly and helpful. Would definitely stay here again.
Cons: My only criticism is that the water in the shower took a while to warm up - it eventually did.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The property was very clean, staff was very personable and spoke English which was so helpful. The location was also wonderful, out of town and quiet, and yet close to Otavalo, and catching a taxi (cheap) was no problem.
Cons: Wifi was a bit weak when away from main office. Not a big deal but could be a hindrance if you had work or responsibilities that depended on it.

Pros: The rooms and beds are big and we felt comfortable. It was very clean, the kitchen useful for preparing a meal and the staff is helpful and friendly. You can catch the bus to otavalo easy in front of the house.
Cons: It was super hard to find, because there is no sign at the house and the Google maps Adress not that correct.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Lovely owners, very quiet at night, amazing shower, WiFi worked well in kitchen, shop downstairs
Cons: Just be aware that it is out of town, was fine for us as a couple, but for solo travellers may be a bit quiet and away from the action

10.0 Excellent
Pros: The staff are friendly and helpful. The location is perfect and the hotel is charming.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The Dona Esther is located just a half block off the town’s main plaza. From there it’s a short walk to the Plaza de Ponchos, site of the celebrated Saturday market. Cheery and stocked with helpful touristic information, the hotel feels like a haven. We also appreciated the comfy beds, excellent shower, good WiFi, rooftop terrace views, and tasty food in the in-house restaurant. The Dutch owners also directed us to an affable (mainly Spanish speaking) taxi driver named Luis, who helped make our three-day stay in Otavalo stress-free and memorable.
Cons: We really had not complaints. There was nothing we didn't like.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: the character of the hotel - vey charming. Beds very comfortable. We had a nice meal in the hotel restaurant one evening.
Cons: Breakfast was rather slow arriving, and the choice of fruit for the continental breakfast was unimaginative - a solo banana; a mix of fruit would have been welcome.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: This hotel is very charming - very well maintained courtyard, room was spacious and had what we needed. The rooftop terrace had a lovely view. Location couldn’t be better. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Filtered water always available. Free breakfast was great and even better for dinner. The wood fired pizzas were delicious and all thought the tagliatelle bolognese was some of best we ever had!
Cons: Really can’t think of much. Pulling at straws the bathroom could have been a bit cleaner and toilet paper roll was a bit cracked. Note, like most (all?) places in ecuador there is 5% charge to pay with credit card vs cash. Not a complaint just trying to be helpful to those that don’t know!
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Located in the center of Otavalo, perfect for a few nights stay. Rooms are cozy and breakfast good and abundant. The roof terrace is a nice spot to rest in the afternoon looking at the volcano.
Cons: The bed was a bit small, and the room a bit dark - still very good stay!
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Great breakfast and we really enjoyed our dinner the night we arrived
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Lovely, kind staff. Having the restaurant on site was convenient and we ate there most nights as we enjoyed the good food. There was lots of character at Dona Esther and it is lovingly cared for. We stayed more nights as there are some excellent hiking options in the area.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: It's a nice house with many original features preserved.
Cons: The house has potential, but felt a bit cold in atmosphere and seems to be lacking management. I requested a specific room, but it was not known to staff when we arrived so we were running up and down the house looking for the right room. The rooms would benefit from refurbishment.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The staff was very friendly, helpful, and wonderful. The accommodation was simple and basic, but comfortable and very clean. The breakfast was delicious and the location of the place is ideal since it’s walking distance to everything in the city’s center.. We will definitely come back to Doña Esther in the future.
Cons: We liked everything!!!!

7.1 Good
Pros: Locatie
Cons: Bath room needs to be refurbished and is outdated and dangerous. Difficult to take a shower due to high step into a bubble bath with a very thick wall and a very slippery floor
6.3 Good
Pros: The location is great, right on the lake, the breakfast was good, the restaurant is right on the lake. The beds were comfortable
Cons: The stuff did not make big effort to help me with my billing needs
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Wonderful view of the Tunguragua volcano. Property with beautiful gardens, flowers, and alpaca animals.
Cons: Getting the fire turned on was a bit problematic
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The room was great. It was huge and the bed was so comfortable. The building where our room was located was beautiful and the view was spectacular. This place was overall beautiful.
Cons: Just a couple of things. First the bathroom in our room was so cold. The front desk told us that the rooms were heated but the only heat we felt was under the carpeted bedroom floor. I don’t understand the purpose of heated carpeted floors. It should have been that the bathroom floor was heated. And second, the staff at the restaurant didn’t seem to care if you were there. We sat at the bar and waited close to 10 minutes for someone to ask us if we wanted a drink since there were waitresses behind the bar going in and out. Nobody bother to ask if we needed anything. We asked one of them if we could get two beers and were told to wait for the bartender so we waited longer and still no bartender showed up. Finally I had to go find the manager to have some one take care of the bar.
7.5 Good
Pros: The lake and the chimney in the room.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The resort was beautiful and the room was nice and with good view
Cons: The bed was a little hard and didnt like that the door closed at 9 pm. We wanted to go to a fiesta but didn't because we worried about getting into the parking lot.
