Value for money We missed it a few times going round as it's an entrance between two cafes, but we should have asked first!
The location was superb for a visit to San Gimignano. The warm reception was pleasant. Wifi connectivity was sporadic.
The rooms and the location
Only one minor criticism was the breakfast was not particularly good.
We enjoyed are stay at the Leon Bianco - would recommend to anyone who likes a bit of peace and tranquility while visiting Italy Rooms with a view are outstanding and a joy to wake up to in the morning
perfect location. Friendly and efficient staff. excellent directions and very good english
Lovely room overlooking square. Fantastic location and the best breakfast of all the hotels we stayed in.
The location is good, in a central square. But S Gimignano is so small that is not important. It´s a expensive hotel for what offers. Bad value for money.Noisy rooms and poor breakfast.
The location was the best possible place to be in S.G. Every part of the stay was wonderful, even considering that much of the town was closed for low season.
the piazza no parking
the mattresses on the beds were really hard and unconfortable
Excellent location, stunning view from Swimming Pool of San Gimignano and yes shuttle service is operating! Cannot get anything to eat (not even a snack by the pool) once the kitchen is closed which is inconvenient given that the hotel is 1.5km from town. Small shower even for a small person.
breakfast were great; the staff was really nice; not a perfect environment for kids; our kids are 8 and 11, il was ok, but, to my advise, it would not be suitable for kids of younger age;
The view from this location is stunning (not from every room) but in general.Very quiet location with 15min walk into San Gimignano which is a beautiful old walled city perched atop a hillside-also stunning views here. Staff at hotel friendly and attentive, we had basic comfort room which was very nice. Only slight negative comment is that not all rooms look out over the hills, but I suppose thats going to be impossible!
View from hotel good - nice having a balcony - room modern and nicely furnished. Pool area very nice. Atmosphere in restaurant would be much improved if the music was improved - having the radio on for meal times was not a good idea. Also the air conditioning in the room was controlled by a central computer - and did not seem to have any control in the room to make it cooler - would prefer to have the control myself. At Breakfast it was a self service buffet which was not a problem, but again it would have been improved if someone had served freshly made coffee - the coffee from the buffet was not very nice.
The stunning views and private balcony. Friendly staff. Indoor pool. Excellent shuttle to the heart of San Gimignano
We found your place to be a peaceful relief coming from the hustle of Rome . The views were breathtaking and everything good about Tuscany. The food was wonderful . The coffee. Please get rid of that machine and make proper coffee
Relais Cappuccina deserves a 10. This relatively new (5 years) hotel/resort has spared no expense to create a welcoming and quality getaway. Extremely friendly staff, superclean rooms, lavish breakfast in a stunning setting overlooking the Tuscan landscape and the old town of San Giminignano. The hotel has all the amenities one may desire and is conveniently located to make daytrips to Florence, Sienna etc. and is a great base to enjoy and discover the beauties of Tuscany. Highly recommended. Absolute value for money.
Lovely views everywhere.........a shuttle to the main walking area of San Gimignano, very convenient.....beds were very uncomfortable and hard !! Nice breakfast by the pool. Quite pricey............. Hard beds !!!!
Location. The view. Breakfast was excellent.
Location was excellent, nice clean room, helpful staff very loud in our room and very uncomfortable bed/pillows
Location is perfect in centre of town and the view (if you get a superior room) is super. Hotel is a bit shabby and needs a facelift badly and a good deep clean but our room itself was clean and grand for the price. We had a countryside view. San Gim is very touristy and expensive to eat compared to other Tuscan towns.
Location, price and the fact that I can drive to to unload and pickup the luggage That we did not stay longer but we have stayed there before and will again
A central location with good amenities, restaurant and staff very helpful bathroom needed a little updating and cleaning to skirting
Driving "up" to the hotel door to unload our luggage is a + location is aaa+ rooms are ok for the $$ and location, but not luxury the staff was very nice The restaurant is ok, if you sit early (light enough to see) and if they seat you in the right area the food is horrible and could not be called italian breakfast: no eggs, coffee reminds me of war times, but what do you want for this much? I would still come back for the location
Location in the center of the piazza was convenient, as it was in the middle of everything in San Gimignano.
everything was excellent
It is in a perfect location right on the central square. The staff were helpful.
The panoramic view of the Tuscan countryside from our superior double room was magnificent. The room was very nice. Location was great in main piazza. Breakfast was very good with the same view. Parking offsite makes it somewhat inconvenient, but we didn't mind since we were able to drop our luggage at the hotel first. The 10 minute walk was good exercise for use..
excellent hotel location no
We had a wonderful view from our room out over the valley in two directions. The room was fairly large with a nice bathroom. The restaurant/breakfast room was pleasant, with good food. Although we were able to unload our luggage in the piazza by the hotel, parking overnight was some distance away.
The superior room was rather ordinary, but the view was great. The food and related service was quite good, especially breakfast. I enjoyed the pool. The staff was exceptionally friendly, and the villa was very lovely and historical. We were glad we stayed there and not in Florence. The dinner menu during the week was limited.
We found the hotel and the surrounding areas to be visited to be in a perfect location. The restaurant also had great quality food and a superb staff working with you at all times. We were taken care of with the utmost of sincerity from everyone. Truly enjoyed our experience at Hotel Villa San Lucchese. A little hard to find but the views from the hotel were worth finding this special place.
We liked the personal service at the hotel, the history of the place and the beautiful surroundings. Location was also excellent for visits to neighbouring tourist attractions.
The restaurant had awesome food, but the waiters were horrible.
It was much below expectations, and certainly not an 4 star hotel. A number of things were not functioning, and the staff was not even tryng to compensate it with friendliness. Dinner was also bad and overpriced. It is a pitty, because hotel is on very nice location, and it could represent great hub for Chianti visit. I would not go there again.
This charming hotel is situated in the beautiful hills of Tuscany with stunning views...There is an excellent restaurant attached to the hotel...
Stylish hotel, situated on a great location (between Sienna and Florence), within reasonable distance of the main worth visiting spots of Toscany and close to town that offers good transport facilities. The hotel is on top of a hill thus offering nice scenic views) and has very good facilities. Suite was spacious and comfortable with stylish and comfortable furniture and well equipped (minibar, safe, flat screen TV) that offered great views over the surrounding hills. Breakfast was nice and common areas (garden, pool, lounge, breakfast area) attractive. Staff could not have been more helpful. Overall convenience of location, amenities and staff efficiency it represented exactly what my family and I wanted in all respects. All in all, it could not have been more perfect for us. Nothing in particular
Friendly staff, great breakfast and convenient location for touring the area.
Beautiful villa ... clean room ... quiet Bed was really hard
a wonderful family run hotel in a lovely setting & beautiful grounds
you have the car this place is the best at good value!
Very efficient stuff, fair restaurant. Unfortunately not a least one chair to sit on in the room. The rest is OK
Ease of access. Stores, restaurants nearby. Breakfast included. Free and easy parking. Hotel very rundown. Internet promised but none--absolutely none--available.
Location of the hotel, if you have a car and you want to visit Toscana, this is a perfect choice
Very good hotel situated between Firenze and Siena from where you can make trips to the beautiful Chianti area, Moteriggioni and San Gimignano. The hotel staff is very friendly and helpful with advices.
easy to find, very close to the highway very low quality breakfast
The accessibility from the Firenze-Sienna highway The first night one of the beds was broken, so they had to change the room. The 2 dinners we had at the hotel were so-so.
Small and cosy, very friendly staff, warm atmosphere, beautiful surroundings (park), excellent starting point for visiting towns and places in Toscana.
Subltle lightiing in the dining area in the evening would be nice
location , restaurant , breakfast
great garden with swimming pool , good breakfast , nicely decorated diner was average
The beautiful countryside and the lovely view from our window. The breakfast was always the same food and after the second day you get bored with the same food.
Close to the town, good views not being able to sit where we wanted to at breakfast
Nice and big garden. Close to San Gimignano. Dinner could be better. The menu looks good but the food was not always good.
Good size rooms, friendly staff. The breakfasts were uninteresting and limited in choice.
Beautiful Tuscan Villa. So relaxed. Surroundings are spectacular and the food in the restaurant is amazing. The free bus service to San Gimingano was great. The staff are great, cant fault this hotel.
Spacious grounds, very friendly staff, great location for day trips. Dinners at the hotel were very good. Bed was a bit uncomfortable.
Room was adequate size, clean with modern, pleasant decore. Bathroom plumbing worked perfectly with no 'surprises'.
I think it's a good opportunity to stay in a place close to one of the most important historic town in the world. It's a quite good opportunity not only for a family but for a business travel too.
Super for visiting Tuscany very helpful about local transport lovely bathroom(s) good breakfast terrace Forgetting to tell us that the restaurant would be shut on Sunday!
The food was excellant although the restaurant was a bit like a canteen with bright lighting.
Helpfulness of lady on desk who arranged excursions
Wonderful view - very pleasant surroundings within the grounds - convenient location Dogs barking continuously - not the hotels fault. Air con not working (too early in the year I imagine) so not fully adaptable to unseasonable weather.
The hotel was perfect for a holiday in Tuscany. It was very peaceful and had beautiful views across the Tuscan hills. I would recommend this hotel 100%, the standard size bedroom was large with a great bathroom and great views. We stayed in Italy for 14 nights, 5 of which at this hotel and it was by far our favourite. We loved San Gimignano also, it has such character and history. The hotel is just a short walk from the city walls. Originally I has booked a "small" room. The room was as stated tiny but had been advertised as having a large balcony. When I went out on this 'large balcony',the view was non existant and was facing other similar small rooms and we could not see any of Tuscany at all. This made the combination of the small room and the balcony very claustraphobic. We were advised that we could upgrade to a standard room at an additional 40 euro per night. We decided to do this and received a remarkably better room with a fabulous view. So if you are going, I would recommend this room type without a doubt.
Just a very short walk into historical center so you can come and go as you please. Upgraded to best room and it was excellent with a great view. Breakfast good enough to satisfy most. Attentive staff. Had to upgrade to receive decent view.
Location and parking.
Location, friendliness of staff, cleanliness Vey small bedrooms
The hotel was lovely and staff very pleasant and welcoming. Dedicated parking was available, first come first serve, near the street for free, which was great! Location was good - a little far from town, but still walking distance. Location was very quiet, tranquil country setting. Pool looked beautiful and inviting. Lovely breakfast room overlooking garden and pool. Room was tiniest and most expensive of the 9 European hotels we stayed at. The bathroom was the most compact I have ever seen. I didn't even attempt to shower. The terrace was bigger than the room and bathroom combined, but was too windy and chilly to use it. I recommend this hotel because it was the easiest way to access the town and avoid the parking issues. Also, the hotel was very nice and the room was fine - just small.
The view from the bedroom window was spectacular. The location near town was most ideal. Everything was great
Helpful staff. Clean. Lovely view, nice garden and pool. Walking distance to San Gimignano.
The view from our room was really beautiful and the furniture matched to the atmosphere of Tuscany. We also liked the cleanness of the room. However first it was really hard to find the hotel, we liked the location of the hotel, all the important cities were close and it was easy to reach them. Poor English knowledge of the staff, especially via phone, and the breakfast was a bit boring for 5 days.
Ideal for staying in and enjoying the atmosphere in Lucca, in the heat of the old town and surounded by the shops and restaurants of the old city.
Wonderful views of the Tuscan countryside, lovely pool and comfortable room. Ideal place to stay with a car to travel to explore local towns such as San Gimingnano.
The location was very nice. A very quiet and picturesque place for relaxing. Parking also available. About 25km to Siena but also close to access Volterra, Firenze, San Gimignano and the Chianti area. They changed sheets and towels every three days unless you asked for daily changing (10 euros additional). Breakfast was rather poor while breakfast and dinner hours were short (1,5 hour for breakfast and 1 hour for dinner). We tried to have dinner one night and only for that night we had to have made special reservation earlier that day (not that this was mentioned anywhere). The staff's english was quite poor. If my wife didn't speak italian I am not sure if I could get around.
Glorious Tuscany views and off the beaten path. So relaxing. Never did figure out the heating controls so cool nights were very cool. Breakfast selections were few compared to other Italian overnight accomodations.
Scenery, swiming pool, in the middle of vigniards Breakfast should be definately be improved
The hotel was in a nice countryside setting. The staff was not friendly or welcoming. It was a very uncomfortable stay because of the manners of the staff.
This is a boutique type hotel. Perfect! take advantage of the unbeleivable great low rates as it is open only since July 07. Rates will surely be double within a year. Should be awarded 5 forks for the great breakfast. Watch out for the ridiculous high price for a glass of white wine for example in their bar: 7 euro each for a local inexpensive wine. You can buy the whole bottle locally for 12 euro.
the atmosphere is lovely and the surroundings inside very classy. no
The staff are amongst the best in hotels we have stayed in. The breakfast buffet is excellent (and included in the room rate). Soundproofing between our and next room not as good as it should be. Have to pay for WiFi (why not include unlimited wifi in the cost and charge an extra 5 euros a day rather than have to go to reception every time it ran out).
I really appreciate the comfort of the hotel and the kindness of the staff who is really friendly. The hotel definitely represent a great value for the money spent... The size of the swimming pool is really small, but the hotel is still in expansion and I guess it's going to be even better in one our two years...
We really enjoyed the beautiful grounds, the very friendly and helpful staff, and the location of the hotel. While the hotel was set near a major road, you did not hear any traffic noise and it was very peaceful.
Lovely hotel, excellent pool. 10 min walk to centre of Certaldo Alto. Staff very friendly and helpful. Lovely area to sit and have breakfast. No
Great Staff, fantastic room, Good location. The old town is the place to eat.
Hotel Certaldo is a solid 3 star hotel, but that's it. It is located right by the busy street and roundabout in the outskirts of Certaldo. Rooms are quite small and the decoration - tacky. We asked the staff for a wine glass, all they offered was a plastic cup. I would expect a little bit more from a 4 star rated hotel. Won't come back.
Lovely Mill conversion. Despite being in between two roads and a roundabout the soundproofing kept the rooms very quiet. Modern plumbing and spacious rooms with retained antique features. Restaurant for Breakfast only. Plenty of interesting places to eat in the old and the new town.
During our holiday we stayed in four hotels in Italy, all of which were quite good. Nothing, however, compared to the attention and friendly service of the staff at this Hotel from the moment we arrived until we departed 5 days later. This is a class operation. They gave us complimentary drinks one evening when the Bar area was occupied by an outside group. I would definitely stay here again.
Visit date- Apr 28-30,2012. temp cool. Charming, old-world culture.Location was perfect for leisurely strolls through the town. The attached restaurant offered a beautiful vista over the surrounding countryside. Lots of ambience for evening dining. Very substantial breakfasts were served here as well. staff were friendly and helpful. Rooms were small but adequate. We found the shops in San Gimignano offered the best variety of leather goods and prices were more reasonable than anywhere else as we travelled throughout Tuscany to Rome. We regretted not purchasing our handbags, belts and leather jackets there. All our accommodations were booked through booking.com. Every location met our expectations, and all reservations were as described on booking.com website. Know where you are going! Be sure you are at the right gate for entrance to the city. The streets are narrow and you really do not want to take a car into the city even to drop off luggage. There are no lifts and you must climb stairs with your luggage.Travel light..we didn't ! Hotel is only a short distance from the back entrance. Ask for a room in the back of the hotel. Our room overlooked the main street and at 6:00am each morning the trash and wine bottles are collected. It sounded like a bottle recycling location!
lovely location Accomodation poor- damp room and damp bed. Restaurant was closed for evening dining. Breakfast poor. Service poor, no staff available overnight to help sort out problem with dampness.
big room; very quiet; reserve covers in the cabinet (and believe me we needed them) were stinky (naphtaline) smell was so strong that we had a hard time to sleep... the hotel team provided fresh covers for the following night
Location wonderful, buildings inspiring, owner very kind and helpful Breakfast uninteresting - it would be easy to improve. Breakfast room dark with curtains. Atmosphere among waiters far too formal. Rates for regular rooms excessive (we stayed in reasonably priced annex)
the location' the friendly owner' the fppd
Beautiful grounds. Friendly staff and wait staff. Great breakfast. Close to the town. Old environment with the comforts of today.
Helpful and friendly staff. Prompt service. Clean, comfortable room. Pet-friendly. Good location for our needs.
Very nice location and drive to the hotel. Easy to find and easy parking. Very authentic and "Tuscany-like". Quite simple, but good hotel with a nice owner.
A lovely well serviced hotel with complete old fashioned charm
I lliked the location, very romantic, beautiful place, and would go back there again, place to go if you want to chill out!
As there was nothing there, we only went for walk & rested. The villa was to out of the way, the food was below standard & so was the room. Not a 1 star let alone a 4 star.
Unrivalled peace and tranquility in a unique setting which was the perfect base for sightseeing in central Tuscany.
The location of the hotel was excellent. In a walking area, in Chianty wine district and near a lot of historical places like Sienna (in hot summers, you can probably escape to this place). The hotel service is kind and helpfull. Our stay was partly in low season and partly high season. In high season the price was higher and the service went down as if they did not expect more people. In the restaurant (of the hotel) this was annoying. We would recommend to stay in the restaurant once or twice during your stay. It was ok, but in a distance of a few km there are a lot of other nice restaurants.
scenery, food walking trails pools quiet authentic buildings & decor it was wonderful
Superb location - midway between Florence and Sienna in beautiful quiet setting Going home!
The quietness of the estate, the swimming pool surrounded by the nature, the private terrace in our room Cheap furniture in our small room, staff not so friendly, quality of service average, not well kept (road to access the hotel, walk path around the hotel for instance), not fulfilling the expectations of a 4 stars hotel.
Enchanting, rustic, excellent cuisine, breath-taking location
Beautiful hotel. Nice views, location. Good price at €100. for a dble. Although beautifully presented, breakfast was skimpy. I love coffee, and this was the worst I've tasted (outside of Austria). Very much a hotel, and not a charming country house as I had thought.
helpful staff good breakfast not enough sun loungers around the pool no suitable eating options for children no room service
We made the reservation as we had been invited for a lunch by friends in Tavarnelle. The hotel was a very nice surprise; very comfortable room.
The place in the center of Toskana, The beautiful hotel, The view from the hotel and the nice resterant Nothing
location (5km to highway firenze -siena); quality rooms; breakfast staff. noise of rooms (especially the ones above the kitchen); allthough landscape-view from the swimmingpool is beautiful, the view of the rooms and restaurant is limited
Good location, big rooms. Stupid rules about charging costs if some food eated in the room or if some own beverages were put in the minibar!
its a great hotel in a perfect location, with great service, the staff is very friendly and very helfull.
Very good location if your want to visit the Chianty Valley a the near by towns (Siena, San Gimignano, even Pisa). Very good restaurant with good service and friendly staff.. Some of the activities advertise by the Hotel (horse ridding, hot air ballon trips, etc.) are not provided by the Hotel itself, they are near by activities, and in some cases the staff at the reception did not have the information about them or about happenings in the area.
Very friendly hotel staff, good food, good service, very nice environment and view. Centrally located near all the tourist attractions in Tuscane.
The breakfast buffet was lovely and varied in its choices. The setting for all outdoor dining was lovely and romantic with great views of San Gimignano on its distant hilltop. The pool was gorgeous. I wish we could have stayed longer. There were no fresh flower arrangements inside the hotel. They should make more use of the inner courtyard which was the former cloister.
the hotel is located in an nice, well-maintained historical building in a very nice environment although making noise the airconditioning was not effective at all. the temperature was above 30 degrees, also at night. the menu of the restaureant was quite limited and did not provide good value for money. as breakfast is concerned, quality was good but again, a fairly limited choice. And when paying 270 euros per night, I would not expect to pay an additional 6 euros for a simple boiled egg. so although the hotel has all the assets to be a splendid holiday hotel, both the non-functioning airconditioning and the ratio of value for money would keep me from going back.
The hotel was situated in an excellent location for visiting the area. The hotel surroundings were extremely relaxing and the service from the hotel staff was second to none. The hotel restaurant menue did not change for the week we stayed there
The rooms were lovely and very spacious. Loved the bathroom w/jacuzzi tub.
The staff were amazing (Paola and Mario especially. The location to San Gimgnano was great. Rooms were lovely, Gastro-restaurant was fantastic. Service of rooms great. Can't say a bad thing about this venue. Looking forward to visiting again.
I enjoyed it as the ambience was really nice, quiet, comfortable, staff quite friendly and helpful. Beautiful scenery, beautiful vistas, located just outside of town, easy acess and egress. Altogether very pleasant. Accomodating as well, allowing us to depart one day early without penalty.
Lovely setting and building Too impersonal, poor breakfast
fabulous room, fabulous staff and fantastic location Restaurant a bit sterile-to be fair staff very good but it was a bit quiet
Facilities at the hotel were good. The hotel was deserted and as a result the atmosphere was very poor.
View, food, cleanliness, internal design, facilities
Situation, staff friendliness, room and room terrasse with view on Toscany hills, spa and fittness centre, swimming pool, quietness, restaurant Nothing
We liked the location with splendid views of the surrounding countryside. The garden area and pool side area were pleasant for relaxing and the pool side lunches were very good We were disappointed by the lack of staff to attend to us as guests . No porter to take our bags to our room . Not accompanied to the room to show us where it was or show the facilities . No staff except a receptionist to get us drinks in the evening . Untrained staff in the restaurant . Delay in service in the restaurant in the evening .
Stunning views of San Gimignano and Tuscany. Fantastic location. Excellent spa. Good pool area. Good room. Good food. Good staff.
The facility itself is charming and has a great location. Service. Almost non existent. Perhaps not for a lacking of trying, but rather poorly managed.
Really nice restaurant and wait staff. It was really quite expensive for what it was. The pool wasn't great.
the reception staff were very helpfull, our room was lovely and the view amazing I was dissapointed that towels were not provided at the pool. The lighting in the restaurant was too harsh in the evening and the atmosphere was spoilt by this. i also found one of the waiters quite bolshy and not a credit to the rest of your staff
landscape, location and facilities
Room and pool Breakfast and bathroom supplies no hair conditioner
The location of the hotel and its facilities are excellent. The staff were very attentive and helpful.
