Pros:This is a family owned and run B and B, around the block from the beach and a well stocked supermarket (read cheese, fruit, salted anchovies, wine, amaro, lemeoncello, pastry, bread, etc)...perfect for anyone with a car wanting a base to go to Taoromina, Messina, Savoca, Etna, Roccalumera, Aci Reale etc . But that's only half of the story...the other half is Salvatore and Alessandra Palazzo, the brother and sister who run this wonderful B and B. Breakfast is a pleasure, Sal's English is superb, his knowledge of the area and Sicily in general is that from an educated attorney turned B and B host, and can I mention he took three hours from his Saturday, drove us up to Savoca, where the Sicilian scenes from Godfather One were filmed, and walked around that town with us on a lovely sunny day, casually strolling the deserted streets of this beautiful hill town..engaging in the most delightful conversation, giving us one of the gifts that are not mentioned in guidebooks...the causal Sicilian stroll and gentle conversation on a beautiful sunny June day.. I can't say enough about Salvatore, you'll experience it yourself and also be charmed by his delightful sister Alessandra. I know the reader of this does not know me from a hole in the wall, but read all the other fine comments on this place...you will not regret it. Finally, one of the great things about this place is you can email Salvatore with a question or concern, and you'll get an informed response . Just a place that put's a smile on your face because of the people you're dealing with....the best.We are an older couple but this place is good for couples of any age.
Cons:I can't say I did not like anything about this place...the only thing is that you will need a car to stay, but parking free and plentiful, since public transportation would not allow this town to be your base of trips. But with a car, the location is very good getting you easily onto the Autostrada or SS 114. Incidentally, I had read the conflicting good and bad stories about renting a car to drive in Sicily. We arrived in Catania, where we stayed for a few days, great place that city, and rented a car from AVIS located near the harbor, run by another salvatore...completely trustworthy man, classy operation, may not have auto transmission, check ahead, manual is fine except if you're not that experienced in some of the steep hillside villages, do some research, know a little about Italian road signs, etc go for the extra collision insurance for peace of mind, don't skimp money wise in this regard. I would also trust Salvatore's, of this B and B, advice or recommendations on a car rental if you wanted to rent a car from this area..
