It is one of the best hotels that I have already stayed. It is in a calm, beautiful and romantic place. It is wonderful!
Wonderful location and views. A stylish, comfortable hotel I would like a towelling dressing gown in the room
the room and the view
The wonderful welcome complete with a glass of port on the terrace - the best check in ever Lack of coffee table in junior suite
The Port was great! Location in the valley and comfort of our room with our own balcony--excellent. Cleaning staff was prompt and responsive, very nice. The lighting was a little dim, it was not easy to read. Could use brighter bulbs at least at the bedside.
I enjoyed the ambience, particularly the terrace for lunch. I enjoyed the architecture of the hotel. I enjoyed the view from my room which was spacious and very comfortable, especially the pillows. the food was good and the senior waiter was excellent. Nothing
Very peaceful and tranquil
Peace and quiet in a beautiful location. The hotel is delightful and charming. We had a room with a terrace where we could enjoy views of the river. The restaurant was beautifully presented but the kitchen did not live up to it's over-priced menu. We were very disappointed.
Swimming Pool It is not a case of 'not liking' - if you are asked me to rate the restaurant I would have stated 'poor to fair'. Being a person with immense experience in food and wine - and taking groups to many European wine regions, I thought the hotel and service superb but the restaurant was in no way compatible. The 'degustation menu' was extremely disappointing, the wines were not served at the right te
Excellent view over the river Douro. Very good location to relax in a extravagant/luxory ambiance. Small balcony with two chairs or the canvas chairs near the pool let the Portwine taste even better. it is difficult to discover surrounding area by foot (no boardwalk, no hiking trails). Friendly staff, yet poorly trained.
i didn't enjoy the period i stayed there. The people who work there are very confusing ,because when i asked something for them, they always answer in a difficult way to understand. There are no accommodations for the disability people . The room that was created for these people isn't useful, because the bathtub is horrible to enter and my grandmother couldn't enter there. Also, the breakfast is horrible, it hasn't anything good there. I didn't enjoy any minute I spent in these hotel. It was a totally waste of time. AH, and how many elevators should we get to arrive at the room ? i lost the notion. many many,! And everyday they were broken, so my grandmother had to walk through the stairs. And the price? Too much for nothing. I wouldn't go back again to these hotel, waste of time
A good and efficient 4*hotel .Would definitly use it again
very nice and comfortable rooms, very kind and welcoming staff
Nice room and hotel, great breakfast. Vila Real is not so interesting place.
Close enough to centre of town without noise. Pool good size and accessible. Staff helpful.
location, view from room
Price Wish we had a room with River view and balcony as there appeared were quite a few available.
The views and location. More services...gym...sauna etc..
Very convenient for visiting Mateus Estate
The balcony overlooking the beautiful Douro river. Spacious room and facilities. Wonderful breakfast.
proximity to boat, train and bus transport, great views of river, restaurant: good food, wine and service, and moderately priced, would have liked more tourist information available
The hotel is excellently located at directly at the river Douro in the heart of the Douro region. We received an upgrade and had a suite available with a perfect view to the river. Ask for a room with river view, because the rooms to the street side may be noisy due to heavy traffic. Also the breakfast buffet is really good. We could not find anything negative during our stay.
great view of the river, upgrade to a suite rooms need restoration, swimming pool not working
Right on river with good views, and close to best restaurants in town. Important to get the river views. A couple of the reception staff were not that helpful and spoke little English. One was very good.
The view and the restaurant They need a lift to the car park
The room was spotlessly clean and the view from the balcony was exceptional!!! I also loved the lobby mural and view. The town of Regua is wonderful, and we found it the nicest and most charming in the whole Douro area. We actually booked in Regua because we were taking the Douro Azul cruise and it left from there. We felt extremely lucky to have happened upon your hotel. No.
excellent position with easy transfer to rooms overlooking the douro river and vineyards good restaurent and other restaurants nearby.excellent staff nothing
Handy location for railway station and excellent views over the Douro Single room for our daughter was expensive
View over the river was worth the extra cost
Superb location, attentive service, wonderful food. Fantastic - we will return.
Beautiful location and immaculate attention to detail. Provided everything we could possibly need. None
Spacious rooms, clean and comfortable Price for night not adjusted with the services offered, mainly the very poor breakfast, lots of better options in the region for 125€ a night
The staff and location are wonderfull. A great place to relax and enjoy the wine and country
The fantastic view, the quietness, the portuguese kindness, the wine, everything...
On arrival we were shown the hotel and quinta. We were met with great hospitality and felt welcome at once. Dinner was delicate and clearly made with much care.
The location and staff were first rate and better than could be expected. None
The environment. The grave yards, the weather and sightseeing. The AC noise
A beautiful setting and a well run, well equiped, and friendly hotel
An absolutely fabulous setting in vineyards overlooking the duoro. Modern and very well appointed hotel with super friendly, efficient and helpful staff. Great infinity pool again with those great views. Informative wine tasting as part of the experience and very good fixed-menu dining. Only a small point but furniture in guest lounge and dining room not as tasteful as the rest of the hotel.
The personal touch! Filippe (and Karsten!) goes out of his way to make your stay a memorable experience.
All in all a very pleasant experience. Superb ambiance and kitchen and friendly staff. Really nobad points related to the stay. In the quinta shop, do Pego should consider the prices for their products. For instance 20 euro for a lbv (compared to Fonseca 2003 13 euro) is a bit difficult to justify.
Location - overlooking the Douro river. It's quiet and gorgeous. Hotel staff are young, helpful and attentive. They sell their own Porto wine. Beatuiful swimming pool. It's a good place to get disconnected.
The location is awesome! The road that lead up to the hotel was very narrow and the turns were very tight. They need to update directions to make it easier to find.
For any one who enjoys Port, as a working Quinta it provides a fabulous insight into the production of Port wine. The place is very well appointed with stunning views and the owners are extremely helpful and friendly The access road is VERY dangerous as it winds its way up the mountain. It is narrow and with lethal drops of many 100's of feet just inches from the vehicle. Very un-nerving for any one with vertigo or who is not 100% sure of their driving abilities
Everything was great - hospitality of the owners, room, landscape, food, wine
The place is new and clean, smells good. The owners Carlos and Madalena are very special people of the kind you dont see very often. I wish I had more time to stay there at least one more day. Not really, but the road after you leave the highway could be better.
The views and the rooms, also food was fairly good The approach to the hotel was dangerous you had to travel along a dirt track only just wide enough for the clio I was driving and often it was very steep with shear drop on one side. Would be dangerous to attempt in the dark and hotelier said that we should have booked for dinner 24 hours before which we were not aware and were not going to attempt to leave and return in the dark,
The view and the location are spectacular. We liked the beautifully designed (modern) rooms and furniture and the fact that we could take long walks in the vineyards surrounding the Quinta. The dogs were barking right beneath our window in the middle of the night and something must be wrong with the pipings: whenever somebody was taking a shower it was so noisy it could have been in our room. And: dinner isn't actually worth the money (30 Euros p.p.).
The hospitable, yet not overbearing, attention from the Quinta's family-run owners was much appreciated. The atmosphere was elegant and sophisticated, but at the same time a relaxed and laid back approach was recognized and welcomed. The proximity to local towns afforded day trip excursions, and the remoteness of the Quinta allowed for much needed seclusion and quiet down time. While enjoying down time, the Quinta offered a wide array of activities on site to accommodate any age level and wine connoisseur. Not enough can be said of the personable and knowledgeable owners, however. Note: The owner’s farm dog was equally a treat, having left our own family pet at home. No issues.
Amazing views. Very welcoming hosts. Lovely home cooked food and great wine. Pool is a little small.
Much more than an over-night stay. Wonderful location and river views. The owner is so helpful and proud to share his home. We are looking forward to a return trip.
Outstanding property in idyllic location (albeit up a bit of a hair-raising track). The views are fantastic as is the high standard of the design and elegance of this house, it's as good as shown in the publicity pictures if not better. Carlos is a great host, always friendly and offers excellent advice on where to visit and eat. Thoroughly enjoyable visit. My only criticism, and this is probably down to the English reserve, is that the dining area consists of one long table (with fantastic views I should add) and the seating is always arranged so that you are ontop of the other guests - fine if you know them or speak their language but not so good if you want a relaxing or romantic meal.
Excellent stay! Fantastic views over the Douro valley, great home made food, wine and porto from own production.
The hotel is in a quaint little village and the view is absolutely gorgeous. Staff were incredibly professional at all times. The rooms were not very large, but still quite comfortable. We had booked for 2 nights, decided to stay a 3rd (changing rooms in the process) and all was handled for us (we were out the hotel the whole day). Hint: if you're a smoker, stay in the 1st floor (intermediate). It's the only floor with balconies and the view is not that different from 2nd floor. The ramp for accessing the hotel is quite steep, which might make it unsuitable for disabled people. Carrying luggage might be cumbersome, but hotel staff will help you if asked. Also, would have been nice to have in-room WiFi and a bit more variety in the breakfast buffet.
The bed was very comfortable Breakfast was served 30 minutes later than advertised. Water sports on the river (jet skis) directly in front of the hotel made a dreadful noise all afternoon - almost until sunset & even the double glazing in the room could not exclude the noise. The "dream view" is more imaginary than real!
Design of hotel. Service in restaurant
The views across the river Douro and the modern hotel room/hotel facilities. The only thing that would be lovely to have is a pool.
Its quietness Access is too bad with a long and steep staircase. My room was too small, with only one chair and scarce view to the scenery
The surroundings are stunning, the hotel was particularly easy to find and quiet. Staff are very helpful and friendly. The welcoming glass of port was a nice touch There is nothing to criticize inside the hotel. There is a steep climb to reception and parking space is limited.
The hotel was very modern and great for the price. A nice base for visiting the Duoro Valley.
The view - magnificent. I was appalled that an otherwise rather decent hotel - new, clean, with a great view, would have the very nasty smell of the kitchen practically coming into the room through a couple of chimneys located right in front of the common balcony! Also, I found it very unpleasant to receive a phone call to the room urging me to check out, one minute past midday, as I was actually leaving the room.
The hotel was very clean welcoming and of a very modern and up to date design. Our room had a beautiful view across to the River Duoro. There is a restaurant where we had dinner, the first night we had a 3 course meal which wasn,t cheap but it was good, the second night we just had an omelette and desesert, which was very reasonable, so you have the choice of what to eat. The breakfast was very good, with a good choice, including fresh home made cakes, and fresh coffee and orange juice. We were situated 15 mins from the nearest town, where you can take a boat trip of train ride to see the beautiful landscape all around. We also visited a nearby Quinta where Port was produced, very interesting. The only minus about the hotel is the side entrance up a steep ramp, which would not be suitable for older or disabled travellers.
Contemporary, stylish hotel in an excellent location for visiting the Douro River valley and wine regions. Comfortable room, nice bath and good views, Wifi worked and English is spoken by helpful front desk staff. Parking was convenient and free. Breakfast was good but not outstanding. The steep lane to access the second floor reception area (mentioned by others) is not a problem unless you are a very mature guest with tons of luggage. The house restaurant offers traditional dishes and is not up to the quality standards of the rest of the hotel--we would not eat there again. However, directly across the street, is one of the finest restaurants in the region--Restaurante D.O.C.
The location was ideal for guests with a car. Rooms were clean and neat. Staff didn't have much English and couldn't provide advice on reasonably-priced restaurants in the vicinity.
It was near the center of the city and it was clean and nice for the price paid.
Although situated about 20 minutes' walk from the centre of this little town, there was a delightful path alongside the Duoro River, or a slightly shorter walk along the street. Our room gave a superb view over the river to the hills beyond, with terraces of grapevines everywhere. Room was not huge, but clean and perfectly comfortable. Good breakfast. There was a good value dinner menu prominently displayed on the reception desk, which we took to be their in-house offer. Not so - it was from a sister hotel at the very opposite end of town. However, all was not lost, as a hotel right next door did do dinner, and we enjoyed a great meal there instead.
The Breakfast was very poor with no personnel touch. Beds are very hard. Personnel not very helpful at the Breakfast room and at the reception, they are more interested on watching TV.
Clean, comfortable room. Good value for the money. Good included breakfast. Excellent restaurant next door. Remodeling currently underway -- pretty noisy.
convenient to river quay and river trips
Staff were polite and friendly and the breakfast was good. Beds were quite comfortable. our room had a wonderful view over the river and surrounding hills. Cleanliness of the car parking area around the front of the hotel could have been better.
Hotel was in need of a make-over and has been somewhat neglected. Pool was brown and not in use, breakfast buffet was average - compared to other hotels in Portugal. Bed and pillows hard and found much better hotels at the same price in Porto.
Air condition one of the staff understood english easy to find Small room No refrigerator Only one of the staff understood english
The environment The air conditiong was not functioning well!
Room and facilities were superb and memorable. Views were breathtaking and worthy of many photos. Wines were first-rate and the tour of the facility was very interesting. Can even walk among the vines. Glad we stayed there! This is not about the hotel itself but the drive to it on a very harrowing and treacherous road. The road is a switchback and very narrow, only wide enough for one narrow car but is considered two-way. This makes the 15 km. drive to the hotel about an hour! The infrastructure needs to be improved, because the guests are absolutely exhausted (speaking for ourselves) by the time of arrival to the hotel.
The Quinta itself is very beautiful, with plenty of spaces to explore and great views over the Douro Valley. Nothing to point. Excellent experience.
Helpful and knowledgeable staff and wonderful setting.
Kindness Staff and see sight No cold minibar in my room
Stunning sorrounding, super friendly staff, a real gem. Be aware that you have a 25 minutes ride off the main street in the Douro vineyards. Not negative, just be aware....
Very poor breakfast (choise)
First evening no warm water
Friendly hotel staff. Hotel could use some fresh paint and furniture.
Location of hotel The rooms are a bit basic, pipes along the walls in the bathroom
In general everything was good, but really nothing special - for to stay one night - ok.
location of hotel close to railway station no internet connection for guests, limited information about location for the tourists, level of english of staff
My whole stay process handled very professionally; very good value; comfortable & location. No elevator, a minor point for me.
Automatic lights in corridor. Cleanliness of room. Everything else was okay. Traffic noise but not too bad.
clean, good value for money
position for going on to other places
The fair price. The croissants served at breakfast were delicious. The cleanness of the rooms. The hotel location, next to the river Douro (but not facing it), is very convenient. The noise from the street. The hotel is great for a short stay while on a trip but not for relaxing. Some of the rooms face a very busy street and not even the double glass windows prevented the noise.
The owners are lovely. Limited English is spoken here and throughout the town but this just adds to the authenticity of the experience. Great little place!
Cheap and fairly cheerful. The room had a fridge and a balcony. The pet chihuahua was very friendly. Parking was very easy. They are just up the road from the municipal pool, which was a pleasant and cheap way to cool off. No lift/elevator, so you might have to drag luggage up two flights. The bedding was somewhat sub-par (lumpy pillows, rough sheets). The hotel doesn't have a pool! It is just down the road, and is a public pool...
Excellent dinner, quiet, large room which was very comfortable, and hardly anyone around. I woke up a 7 am to go for a walk, but couldn't leave until the receptionist arrived at eight.
Very large and clean rooms, very nice restaurant and staff. Great food.
