The hotel has been renovated from an old horse changing station, where travelers would have changed horses or spent the night. We like that you can still imagine that past within the hotel; it isn't hidden and it adds charm and character. Everything was clean, the rooms seem to be named after Loire chateaux (we were in the Amboise room, which was beautiful), the staff were absolutely wonderful and very attentive. We had the breakfast buffet, which we thought was very good: ham, choice of cheeses, yogurt, fruit (fresh and dried), croissants and baguette as well as assorted pastries, hard boiled eggs, toast, coffee with warmed milk, juice...all plentiful and delicious. We would happily stay here again; it is a good base for exploring the area with lots of restaurants and shops nearby. Plus it is literally a 5 minute walk to the Azay-le-Rideau chateau, which is not to be missed. We felt welcomed and very comfortable here. Recommended!
Great location We were charged extra for parking in the hotel car park and were not told until we paid at the end.
It was not so big hotel so there was no elevator. It was hard to bring up heavy luggage to second floor.
Friendly helpful staff and lovely breakfast including some home baked cakes. Our room was pretty small
Close to town centre, but immediate surroundings disappointing. Noise from toilets being used in adjoining rooms along with the noise of guests arriving and leaving the hotel resulted in a sleepless night.
The location was excellent. It was within walking distance of the chateau and there were plenty of places to eat dinner. Room had an odor, walls paper thin and we could clearly hear the people in the next room and across the hall. Bed very short.
Convenient location to visit local castles. Sweet little town.Staff helpful, but spoke little English.
Centrally located with free parking. A 5 minute walk to the Chateau, cafe's restaurants etc. Good wifi connection and comfortable room. Breakfast was OK but a little overpriced.
The location is fine close to the centre of the charming village of Azay le Rideau. There are some excellent restaurantes to eat at within a short walk and beautiful scenery along the Loire valley a half hour cycle ride away. Hotel staff were friendly and met all our requests promptly. free wi fi a bonus. The rooms are rather small ( though clean ) and we had to ask for facilities to make a hot drink. Rooms at the front of the hotel are pleasant with the balcony but are subject to traffic noise from before 7 am (particularly those irritating mopeds) a problem made worse by the location of the hotel on the main road out of town. Breakfast is 11 euros per person - perhaps to discourage.
Convenient location for local sights Aircon not working for some time in my opinion
No Wi-Fi. It is far away from restaurants and facilities and charged quite a lot for such location. We spent more than an hour to find a place to eat. The hotel restaurant is very expensive and not operating on Sunday evening.
I have nothing to say ; all was brilliant ; I hope I'll come back sometime
Not interested in golf this trip, but liked the surroundings The "Chateau" was not quite up to the pictures on the Internet.
Great ambience, lovely decor, peaceful surroundings No control over other guests - had to complain at 2.15 a.m. about a very noisy party going on in the lounge directly below.
What can I say? it s a castle right out of a fairy tale. I can't wait to go back..
Despite our bad experience with the room, the settings of the castle are beautiful and quiet, although a little far off from the Loire castles. Expect to drive at least 1 hour to most of the castles. There is a fancy and expensive "restaurant gastronomique" and a brasserie, where you can eat on the terrace for very reasonable prices. For breakfast, we had to beg a bit to get a coffee and a croissant in the brasserie but we got it; the other option is to pay 20 Euros for a not very remarkable breakfast buffet. Bathrooms were much better than the rooms. Careful - some of the Classic Rooms in the Castle (2nd floor, e.g. 203) are clearly substandard for a 4 star- and with prices on this site lower than the regular price - guess who gets them. We had a tiny little room with an even tinier bullseye window that opened only half way and should have been replaced years back. Result: No air, 29 degrees Celsius in the room at midnight with the window open, while outside it was a fresh night around 18 degrees. We slept very little, and had to fight to be moved into another room for the remaining 2 nights. Second room was OK. Still, for a 4 star place, I would have expected the castle to be much better renovated and much cleaner, like others we've seen in France. A bit shabby in some details.
Beautiful setting and reception staff were lovely. Restuarant over priced and too fussy, we eat out a lot but this is way over the top. Waiter also very stuffy and quite rude at times
The hotel was rececently renovated and rooms/decor attractive. Staff friendly and accomodating.Restaurant is really superb- an experience not to be missed. Very pleased overall - would return if in the area again No room service - not good for a 4 star hotel
We had a lovely stay in the hotel. It is really beautiful and the staff is excellent. The hotel is expensive and the rooms are nice, but not for that money. We had a promotion, so for us it was fine.
Modern, very friendly and helpful owner and staff. Excellent food combined with very comfortable rooms, excellent secure parking, quiet and yet within walking distance of town and its famous chateau
Very good quality 2 star hotel (only the limited hours of its restaurant stop it being 3 star) refurbished in 2009. We had a 4 berth family room with a double and 2 bunk beds which was very comfortable. The room was perfectly decorated with new carpets and was spotlessly clean. It is a beautiful hotel building, lovely wooden entrance hall and staircase, probably a 4 star hotel in a previous life now brought back to life and refurbished on a smaller scale. We recommend the hotel and would stay again. We paid EUR76 for the 4 berth room. Breakfast EUR9.50. Dinner set menus from EUR22 but plenty of alternatives in town. Receptionists were friendly and helpful. A few downsides: (1) The hotel is a little further out of town than many others. Azay is a very small town but this hotel is off from the main road leading to the town, about 15 minutes walk to the Chateau. If you have a car no probs, and you prob won't beat the price. (2) Strangely the bath didn't have a shower screen so it was necessary to use a spare towel to cover the floor. Others have mentioned the same in other rooms but otherwise the bathroom is perfectly decorated with modern fittings.
It's a perfect hotel to discover castles situated not far from it. English speaking management. Room is rather big.
Clean, comfortable room, friendly and helpful staff and owner; good location for exploring the chateaux of the Loire valley. Our room was on the 2nd floor and there was no lift, but to be fair it was classified 2 star so couldn't really expect one.
Good fairly modern hotel on the outskirts of town. Good bathroom. Good restaurant. Good car park.
The hotel staff was very friendly and went out of their way to see to our needs. When they saw us looking at tourist fliers, they came up and handed us a regional map with Chateaus highlighted. Its location is very central to many of the local attractions The room was basic, but comfortable. Would have liked a shower curtain for the option to take a standing shower but the bathroom facilities were clean and adequate.
Great welcome, very clean and modern and reasonable price.
It was the best. Nothing was to much trouble. If you are looking for superb service food and rooms this is the right place.
The pleasantness of the staff, their willingness to please, the beautiful hotel and surroundings, the superb decoration in our room. 45 Euro for a measure of Martell Cordon Bleu Cognac is ridiculous.
great location. missed the airco
Friendliness and professionalism of staff. Quality of food. Building and decor
Large rooms, friendliness of staff, good facilities, excellent food and location was handy for touring the region, especially the Tour-Blois route. Lack of coffee/tea facilities in room. Saturday night was very busy due to a function and dinner service was extremely slow.
Attractive location Overpriced, particularly the restaurant.
Marvelous food and wine in beautiful surroundings
Excellent service, dinner was great.
The chateau was stunning, set in amazing grounds. We dined at the restaurant at night, lovely gourmet food, unfortunately we were surrounded by an American tour group, which unfortunately did not help the ambience. Our room was nice, but a lovely large bathroom. Would recommend, was excellent value for money for a chateau in the area, when booking through booking.com.
Beautiful building. Excellent food and hospitable staff. Building not in A1 condition, but still very good.
A most beautiful Chateau set in a wonderful park. The food was superb and the heated swimming was a delight. All very comfortable and I would highly recommend it if you visiting the Loire area.
Everything was superb, the drinks that I ordered at reception on the night we arrived did not however, get delivered to our room as requested. Which was the only dissappointment. Same as above and also I was not able to get a cup of English tea. I suggest Yorkshire tea, if you are interested, strong and tasty and available in Carrefore.
The resturant was excellent
Very nice old historical village with its own chateau
The only thing I liked was the location, very close to the Chateaux Amboise. There was a lot of fur of pets in the pillow, probably from a previous guest. Never stay there again, very dirty! If a hotel wants to accept pets at least they have to clean the room after.
The steak was good, the room was well cleaned. Unfortunately we forgot an item of luggage, I emailed the hotel but got no reply, I later phoned the hotel but was told that the bag could not be found.
I liked the friendly staff, the general atmosphere and the food in the restaurant. There is a problem with hot water in the rooms and we did not get anything more than warm after waiting several minutes
Very good friendly helpful service with good restaurant meal. Nothing really. Perfectly adequate for a short stay.
location and pleasant staff no
Very friendly. A little chaotic but good menus. We were at the ftront - lots of traffic noise.
excellent reception; good meals;very helpful staff; good safe parking facility The credit card system was out of order and we had to pay with cash.
The room was lovely - beams and old furniture. Beautifully decorated. Good size ensuite. Our evening meal was in their magical Garden and really delicious and beautifully presented.. Can't find a fault with the hotel at all.
the hotel was in a good position for us as we were travelling south. everything in and about the hotel was superb and we had a great overnight break. the food was excellent and very freindly staff
We received a good welcome and weer upgraded. Lovely room and very secure parking. Dinner was delicious. The furnishings of the hotel delightful.
We liked everything about our stay here!! The comfort, the beauty of the rooms, the excellent breakfast, the fabulous dinner, the wonderful owner/chef.
Excellent cuisine, pleasant and attentive staff, comfortable and quiet rooms. We were able to bring our two dogs with us.
The hotel was a very pleasant stop on the journey to the coast: the staff were welcoming and my room spacious and comfortable. It was good to have car-parking in the hotel grounds. The dinner was excellent I found the stairs to my room on the top floor very steep; it was difficult to carry a suitcase up/down on my own.
Food was very enjoyable.location good for getting into city of Tours and also heading out to visit castles. Madam a little eccentric a litle tired and in need of some cash injection
The owner was very helpful and friendly and the location was good. View from bedroom window excellent. Our room on the third floor was very tired and quite small - paint peeling off window sills, bathroom musty etc.
Staff were friendly and obliging, room comfortable and restaurant excellent although wine list a little expensive
People were very friendly Breakfast is typical french, could be more continental
owner friendly nothing
Fantastic olde worlde decor, I particularly loved the roll top bath, and the shower wet room was great too, really good value for money, this is a small family run hotel attached to a really nice cosy wine bar. The rooms are huge and there's a swimming pool too.
The staff were extremely warm and friendly, and the cafe and our room was very charmingly decorated. The menu was mostly geared towards sharing platters of meats and cheeses - but we also shared an excellent savoury tart and the apple tart for dessert was wonderful. The wine cellar was fantastic and the host helped us pick out a lovely wine for our anniversary. Our room smelled a little musty though it was very clean. Small things were missing like soap and tissues by the basin, and a light globe needed replacing but these were very minor overall.
We liked already the facade, witch is very inviting(terras under the trees, nice house) We spend a great evening in the wine bar, where they serve a good choice of local wines and charcuteries. The swimming pool and the garden are also super(funny cat & dog)
