Meals were excellent and staff very helpful and attentive. Location on a bend on a main road was difficult to find and we almost drove past it. A sign in Yoxford's main street directing visitors to the hotel would be useful.
Very friendly helpful staff. Comfortable room with many different lotions shampoos etc in bathroom. Easy quick check-in and check-out. Excellent breakfast featuring local products My room was very near the A12 and the traffic was very obvious from 7am onwards. However it was not at all busy overnight
The service of the staff was excellent Nothing
Excellent room very clean, food very tasty. Staff pleasant and helpfull. Thoughttful little extras fresh coffee in the rooms being one of them.
Welcoming staff; comfortable accomodation with lots of little extras; lovely evening meal and breakfast. A very pleasant stopover. Lack of a shower
Very nice location, and excellent gardens, full of wildlife. rabbits, squirrels, and even a deer visited.
I found the hotel to be comfortable, clean and in a convenient position for touring the east coast We had a disapointing main course with our evening meal which is a shame considering the hotels reputation for good food.
some black mould round bath
The food was excellent No books or magazines to read in the lounge
The food was excellent, nice atmosphere in the bar/restaurant. All the staff were very polite and friendly. The room was great, lovely 4-poster bed. Generally the place was great. You do get a fair bit of noise from the main a12 (especially if you have a room at the front like we did) It was also very stormy the night we stayed which probably made things worse. I'd probably ask for a room at the back if I was to stay there again.
Peace and quiet, large comfortable bed, free newspapers, excellent freshly cooked breakfast Limited choice of wine at the bar
The hotel was comfortable, clean and good value for the purpose of our visit.
We thought that the hotel was comfortable and the dining room had a reasonable menu While the menu was ok my partner, who is vegetarian, felt that the choise was limited and although the chef came up with an alternative choise it wasn't brilliant( under soaked dried mushrooms)
The bathroom was very well arranged, clean and tidy. Our room was sold to us as a room with a balcony. There was no mention that it overlooked the car park making the room like a goldfish bowl, very noisy and disappointing for the celebration of our wedding anniversary. The door stuck so it was difficult to get advantage of balcony anyway. Very noisy radiators and annexe we were in was really like a travel lodge. Breakfast was disorganised and took ages before our order was taken. Many of the items had run out on buffet table and were not being filled as so many people were eating breakfast. All in all, disappointing - sorry!
large room, good car park, tasty breakfast silly dress code for the dining room (no jeans!) reflecting golfers stuffy attitudes
The bedrooms were spacious and well provisioned. Our rooms were very quiet and it was nice to have windows that open properly and not to have the continuous noise of air-conditioning. The staff started trying to clean the rooms from 9.30am onwards, which for a Sunday morning seemed a little uncivilised. The settling of the bill was very inefficient.
Friendly service - as it is Golf affiliated there is good bar food available all the time. We had a cream tea on arrival. Restaurant was really good.
The food was very good, both the evening meal in the Restaurant and the Breakfast. I would have felt more comfortable in the Restaurant if other guests were more casually dressed (as we only had jeans with us).
The staff were very friendly. The food was excellent. Woke up to a cold room. Radiators came on while we were at breakfast after 9.am
Very comfortable and welcolming hotel, excellently situated for enjoying a great section of the Suffolk coastline
Excellent breakfast and helpful staff Had to pay for water to drink in room although tea and coffee provided.
its central location and could take your dog
walked ate relaxed too noisy you could hear everyone walking around, above you , down the corridor etc.. anmd there were some very early risers! Room also very hot despite window open - although that looked out onto a fire escape and i felt a little hessitant to leave it open all night - Room 3
the service was very good , and the food was very good too. not one , sorry .
I had last been to this hotel as a child nearly 40 years ago - I loved it then, and I loved it again on this visit. I'll certainly return sooner next time! Comfortable, quintessentially English and Southwold is a gem. The smell! The cleaning team use an incredibly powerful, carbolic type, cleaning material which leaves a very pervasive smell (redolent of boarding schools) which permeated our room and the public corriders. Please, please change it - it was the only minus of our wonderful stay.
I thought the food was much better this time and they had refurbished the hotel.
the food, the olde world charm, the peaceful nature Our room was very pleasant with a view to the sea over rooftops, only drawback was the air conditioning unit near our room which was a background hum late into the night especially with the window open. Did manage to sleep though.
Location Would have preferred a room in the hotel but the garden annex was perfectly fine
A lovely, friendly hotel situated in the centre of Southwold. It would have been nice to have paid for half-board accommodation because it worked out quite expensive to have dinner at hotel each night. Although a very nice menu, it was unfortunate it did not change each night.
The staff were very friendly polite and helpful, the service in the restaurant was very efficient, the room was very good, one very good point was that there was a socket by the mirror for hairdryer, in my experiance that is not usually so. All in all very good
the comfortable rooms...good service with approachable staff...quiet setting
The rooms are fresh and clean, and the staff are welcoming
I was disappointed with the lack of good ventilation in the room,no fan available in very warm weather.Lack of storage, uncomfortable bed and very hard edges to the base which bruised my shins because of constricted space.Breakfast of eggs with salmon spoilt by being drowned in cream. All in all poor value for money.'Good' room equals 'basic'.
Visited the neighbouring villages, reminiscing about holidays spent in Suffolk as a child. Not a major thing as it is a personal preference - I enjoy hard matresses. However as this is just my choice (my fiancee found the bed very comfortable!) and therefore should not be seen as a criticism.
Room was excellently appointed and loved situation of room . food very good excellent quality and good quantity . Staff really friendly and helpful . Great hotel Restaurant Service a bit slow but not a big issue for us
Good choice at breakfast and plenty of it. Friendly service. Lovely room. Would recommend to others.
The staff where friendly and polite, the room was fabulous! The food was great including the breakfast. Still dreaming about the bacon! A wonderful place to stay, will go again.
comfortable spacious room been able to relax at of day with facilities to eat and drink without having to travel some people may find breakfast service slow but we found no rush relaxing and better to wait to have breakfast freshly cooked also excellent choices
Everything - it was quite simpy the best place I've stayed at - my better half and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay, and not only would recommend it to others, we'll be coming back!
Quality of suite: Tree Creeper Unfortunately, no hot water for 24 hours - bolier problem. Received a reduction on stay.
Beautiful, comfortable & spacious Duke of York Bedroom in Sutherland House. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was delicious. The location being on the high street and nearby to Latitude festival we were attending was fantastic (really lovely little town). Thank you very much
Beds comfortable and clean When we arrived, no-one was on reception and I had to call the hotel on my mobile to get some attention. A large crack was in the wall. Carpets were stained (Room 4). No hot water and shower not working. Breakfast was miniscule. No coffee served until the end. The kitchen ran out of bacon and started serving ham. No-one was on reception when we checked out.
The room was a good size, clean and warm with a decent size kettle! I was attending a wedding at a nearby town and needed somewhere cheap for the night. This hotel fitted the bill well and did the job of putting a roof over my head. I'd recommend this hotel to those on a budget and happy with the basics. Although the bedding was clean, the single mattress was very uncomfortable, you could feel every spring so sleep wasn't great. There was also a funky smell of drains when the toilet was flushed. The TV was barely watchable as the signal was very poor. I left without having breakfast as I needed to get out on the road so can't comment on the food.
The room was clean and comfortable. Breakfast good. Receptionest was doubling as barmaid. Did better job as barmaid. Forgot key when showing us to room. Room: no bath plug. Bedside light not working. Curtains not attatched to rail. Television aerial socket hanging off wall. Uht milk of dubious quality for coffee.
Comfortable bed Nobody on reception when arrived had to go and find someone.Waited 15 minutes. Booked breakfast for 8.15am.Chef had been sent home as thought I said 9.30am so waited 30 minutes for him to arrive. No plug in sink in bathroom.
The only thing was the age of the hotel Beds had springs showing through mattress had to have extra pillows to sleep on to avoid them digging in me.Carpet was so badly stained all over !!!!! the breakfast slap dab!! Food terrible ! Broken towel rail no glasses in bathroom all fittings were broken. Spoilt a weekend after a wonderful Wedding at the Abbey.
hotel staff were great and very helpful
Decent room, staff polite and helpful Reservation had not been received at the hotel, possibly due to printer being out of ink, broken table which looked like had been broken in a fight right placed on chair next to reception desk. Wi-fi did not work.
It was warm The absence of staff & the cleanliness of the room
Resturant good Shabby & noisey
rooms were warm noise inside and out, no chef, lack of customer service.
