overdue luggage arrived 4 days late and we were not called when it arrived...probably just a language problem with French staff & English only guests
Like most French hotels regret no tea-making facilities.
The location in the middle of the vineyards is fantastic, and the staff are very friendly and accommodating. The food is good and the wine list has a good selection of producers from the immediately surrounding area.
Setting, great view and balcony
The building was a very attractive one that made us want to step in and stay. The rooms were clean and well kept. The doors are closed by midnight and if a guest shows up after midnight even with fully pre-paid reservation, there is no way to enter the hotel. We had to spend the night in our car in the car park despite a fully paid reservation since we showed up too late!!! When we did make it to the room at 0630 hrs the next morning, we found the bed to be rather small.
very good restaurant, attractive location
great food but no vegetarian choice. small and uncomfortable double bed.
Excellent breakfast (European style) Elevator is a bit slow and noisy
The hotel was nice and comfy. Perhaps some rooms a little bit outdated, but this was overcomed by cleanliness. The free parking lot and the location is what made up our desicion to stay. Despite that we had the updated version on our the navigator, it did not recognize the address that is provided by the hotel or maybe by booking.com (to our surprise neither did google). The very same address with the very same ZIP also applies to the city Colmar (thats what google says). So basically we started our trip to hotel without knowing hotels exact position. As recommendation to the others if your navigator does not recognize the address, use the map on booking.com site in order to find the hotel.
As soon as we arrived we were make really welcome by the owner. Our room was so romantic overlooking the small river but also well-equipped. The public rooms were so relaxing and truly lovely with an 'honesty' bar. Outside was ample room to relax and enjoy the ambience. Although we didn't eat at the hotel we definitely will next time! The owner made some excellent recommendations of where to eat locally (Maximillian's) and buy wine. This hotel proved to be a perfect stop-over for a couple of nights en route to Italy.
We loved being out in the country. It was very relaxing to enjoy a drink by the river with newly made French friends. The breakfast and atmosphere were so enjoyable. We ate there one night (need to make reservations) and it was a real treat - food fresh from the market and so delicious. The location was perfect for getting to the wine road and those quaint little towns. Thank you, Stefan, for a wonderful weekend! We will come back.
We had a traditional room on the top floor and it was very comfortable with a modern bathroom, good bed, enough space and a view of Haut Koenigsbourg castle. We did have to climb 3 flights of stairs, which was not a problem for us, but may be for others. Breakfast at 12 E each was too expensive for us, and the nearest alternative is in Selestat.
The service and the room was perfect.
The style and ambiance of the Hotel was superb and all staff very helpful with a good grasp of English language. The room was superb with a great big bath perfect after 17 hours driving! We were not told that you had to pre order a dinner if you wished to dine at the Hotel but the staff did ring and book an excellent local resturant
Very friendly staff, they do their utmost. The atmosphere is perfect with country style lobby. The rooms are tidy and clean in the same style like the lobby. Perfect for vacation or to relax a bit after a long business day. You have to book in advance for the dinner, which starts a bit late for my customs: 18:30. The food is quite heavy, which is typical in Alsace as I have experienced. Single menu for taking, or leaving it.
The setting near a river and in a quiet place pleased us. The villages and towns nearby are lovely.
A pleasant small hotel that had obviously undergone recent, tasteful, renovation. Homey, quiet garden behind hotel bordered river. Great for afternoon lounging. The innkeeper, also the chef, went out of his way to make us feel welcome. Dinner was the highlight with regional dishes and wines served to ten diners seated at one table.
Enough Room size and bed. Silent environment and good restaurant near the hotel.
wonderful, peaceful location along a river smoky reception/lobby area
the hotel is located in a main spot along the wine rout in a quiet village.the rooms are nicely decorated and large.nice bathroom. the hotel closes everything by 10 pm and there isn't any option for even a cup of coffee.
A charming very French inn with a fabulous location and view of the vineyards, mountains, and nearby castle. The food was gourmet.
Very friendly staff, nice buffet breakfast, very clean rooms, pretty architecture. Beautiful location on the Alsace wine road, near historical locations and walking trails.
1)friendly service and 2)location (quiet and nice view) even though very friendly, slightly slow service at the restaurant
this was an overnight stop over travelling from Tuscany to Rotterdam. it was a bed for the night and so we really did not judge it more widely. no complaints though!
The location was good. This hotel has a great view too bad that the porch was closed to us so we could not enjoy it. Also there was no staff during the evening so if there was a problem you could not ask for help. Also the tv had a special turn on button which was unknown to us and we were not told how to turn it on.
Friendly and helpful staff. There was no bar. Needed updating/modernizing slightly.
A very comfortable and friendly hotel. Reception staff were very helpful. Try to get a room overlooking the village with an amazing view of Haut-Koenigsbourg Castle. A bit on the pricey side compared with some other hotels we stayed at in Alsace.
Had a very nice room with balcony overlooking the vineyards and Kronenberg Castle. Dining room was closed Mon. & Tues. nights (low time of the week?) although you could book ahead and reserve for dinner if convenient.
Nice hotel, beautiful location, good service
Service was absolutely fabulous!!! We arrived close to midnight and were totally tired after driving six hours and also after a minor misstrack when trying to find the hotel. Welcome was awesome! Even though Hotel´s kitchen and restaurant was closed, friendly gentleman saw that we were tired and propably hungry. He offered us very good local onion pie, salad and excellent wine! Rooms were small but comfy and clean. Our price was 49e/night which turned out to be excellent value for money. Will definately stay here when I´m visiting Alsace next time. If you are planning a trip to Alsace car is a must. Our bed was a bumby and actually a bit broken. AC could have been better.
The new pool and leisure facilities are excellent. The hotel would be a great place to unwind for a few days. The room tariffs are high compared with other hotels we used in the Alsace. If there is little or no time to enjoy the facilities (we stayed only one night as part of a walking holiday) it offers poor value for money.
The place is great. Great view...
Staff were available but did not crowd guests No
Helpful staff who even anticipated when WiFi access was required and provided the pass word. Knowledgeable and helpful waiters who made excellent wine recommendations. Evening meals in restaurant were excellent and good value. Breakfast, included in the tariff, was not to the high standard of the evening meals and coffee was ordinary.
Friendly staff nice food
We got two separated beds unstead of one doublebed
Excellent dinner and breakfast. Helpful staff. Beautiful pool and hot tub. WI-FI weak. Could receive but not send email, tough for business. Thick beach towels would be nice for pool.
What a perfectly situated hotel in the most adorable village in the Alsace region. We met the most wonderful wood sculptor and his Dad while walking around the village. Pefectly situated for wine country as well as visiting the Haut de Koenigsburg. The dinner and breakfast buffet were superb.
The town where is placed the hotel is very calm. The swimming pool is open at early in the morning and in the evening. The Structure is very clean and very equiped for a 3star hotel. The restaurant is good and very useful for a full total relax.
Very nice place, beautiful rooms
The comfort and cleanliness of the rooms. The very helpful staff. The location was very nice as well.
Friendly service, delicious food, beautiful location, and a very comfortable room.
The location of the hotel was perfect for the purpose of our visit, very quiet and the restaurant was a big bonus after a busy day.
a truly adorable hotel with friendly staff, superb room, 2 lovely labradors, with the best restaurant we'd had in our 2 weeks' trip in France. Desperately wish to come again. rien
Everything was perfect. Staff, location, food... Nothing to say. I'd like to stay during the spring or summer time... Perfect position for your visit along Alsace region.
This hotel with its perfect design between traditional and modern is a real treat!!! The dinner in the restaurant was excellent at a very reasonable price. For breakfast there was fresh fruit, juice, homemade jam and a choice of bread and croissants, all nicely arranged in baskets on the table. Because I love to sit up in bed to read, I would replace the art picture on the wall with a smaller one.
Hotel De I'llwald is in a great location for touring the Alsace area. The three buildings buildings have been beautifully renovated and our room was large and comfortable with a modern bathroom. The staff were friendly and happy to use English given our limited French. The meals were excellent, both dinner and breakfast are slightly expensive but still recommended.
The auberge in itself is lovely and gives a real flavour of Alsace. The restaurant is excellent as is breakfast but prices may not allow for dinner there every night. The staff are kept very busy and although this comes across they are more than friendly and helpful. The rooms vary in size and even having one of the smaller rooms it was percfect for two. The bathrooms are particularly nice with great showers, perfect after a dip in the pool. Would highly recommend for others on the wine route. Entrance to some of the rooms is via buzzer entry which can be disruptive during the night. If a light sleeper avoid room 2.
Hotel is situated near the road and has a very nice garden around. Everything was almost perfect.
The hotel was clean and the breakfast was excellent Rooms were very small.
The location is fantastic. There is a grocery store and gas station right across the street from the hotel, and a bus stop directly in front of the hotel. The price for the location was very good. The walls were a little thin, so we could hear the TV and people talking from the room next door.
Clean, good quality/price
Very good value for money. The room was quite small, but clean and nice white clean bedding on the bed. Bathroom was big with a separate shower and bath. Common parts of the hotel are very stylish and they make a real effort, eg little candles on the stairs in the evening. Breakfast was an extra 8 euros per person and was very nice - a good selection of cereal, lots of different breads and cakes, jams, cheese, ham etc. Location is out of town a bit so you need a car, but it's a good place to be if you're touring the area. There is free parking on the road just opposite the hotel. No English channels on the TV.
Friendly staff, not far from the city centre, nice clean rooms and a great breakfast not applicable
The hotel was wonderful, clean and very attractive. Our room with a balcony lovely. The owners and staff very friendly. We would thoroughly recommend it.
convenience, friendly, and very nice. Breakfast was very good!!!
Beautiful village surroundings. Hotel very well maintained with beautiful decor. No restaurant facilities. Nearest restaurant 6km away albeit in another beautiful village.
This is a lovely place and fantastic value. Room very nice and well appointed and comfortable. Really charming. Breakfast really nicely presented. Sweet little town. I would really recommend a stop here.
Nice countryside hotel, helpful staff. The 'Pressoir de Bacchus'-restaurant in the same street serves excellent food at a very reasonable price! Apart from the availability of a bath, rather peculiar concept of 'superior room'... Unlike the 'standard-room': not two beds but a rather small two-person-bed, no flatscreen-tv but a rather small conventional one, and no Eurosport-channel available on our tv. Again, all this in contrast to the 'standard-rooms' of our fellow-travellers...
charming hotel, good quality, definitely value of money
Very clean rooms, helpful staff. None
We enjoyed this hotel very much, it is located in a very small pretty village. Breakfast was good and it was a good overnight stay.
it was situated in a beautiful small village, charming!
