Overall we had a very pleasant meal and the service was good but very slow. They have an excellent wine list with bottles at all price points. The desert was especially good as was out appetizer. One of us had steak that was perfectly cooked and was very tasty. The other had the bouillabaisse, which was good but not exceptional.

Side salad was terrible; tasted old and dressing did not taste fresh. Very unimaginative. French onion soup was delicious; apple tart was delicious. Table was upstairs across from kitchen service door with staff bringing out huge containers of ingredients. It felt awkward and disruptive.

Food really was great the atmosphere was good too. The dining service was irritated at us for not being quick enough at ordering and told us if we didn't order we wouldn't have our food for 2 1/2 hours. He was sweaty and not well equipped to give us a great rundown of menu items. Just was there to take out order and be done.

Four of went there before seeing Rent at the Paramount and everything was great. The waitress asked if we had plans and recommended several things, as well as steering us away from things that would take too long. The service was very professional and the food was VERY GOOD. I look forward to going back again to try their brunch.

Great lunch with French-ish food. Had the bouillabaisse and my friend had a burger. Both were excellent. Passion fruit creme brûlée was great as well, although the caramelized top was a tiny bit burned and therefore a bit bitter. Very nice experience overall.

The atmosphere was very lovely - evocative of the 'old' Paris with its high ceilings and Art Deco mirror. Service was outstanding. Food was good but not as much as expected, especially for the price. But overall a pleasant experience.

Overall Loulay is a good restaurant, nice for couples and small group dinner. The cocktails are innovative and taste good. The wine list is good and the food is good. It's relaxed and a little romantic. The wait staff is friendly and helpful when asked a question and they are cognizant of theater goers and time constraints.

He was attentive without hovering and made our meal most enjoyable. The foot was very tasty and was just the right amount. I would highly recommend this restaurant.

We got a table upstairs where it was cozy and quiet. My husband and I had dinner there before attending a performance at the Benaroya Hall, just a few minutes walk away. We had the pork chop, the flat iron steak, the duck profiteroles, candied walnut arugula salad, and the beignets and peanut butter ice cream for dessert. Everything was delicious. My favorite was the flat iron steak. My husband kept raving about the beignets. I'm gluten free so ordering dessert was a bit of a challenge. We both ordered half glass of wine, one Pinot noir that goes well with the pork, and the Cabernet Sauvignon to go with the steak. My husband ordered the wine for us and he commented that it's quite a nice wine list. Plus we are not heavy drinkers so we appreciate the half glass options. One of our courses came late, the waiter confessed it was because they had mixed up our order with another table. The manager then took off the cost of the more expensive main course from our bill. The service was impeccable needless to say. We will definitely go back there again for dinner.

Did not impress. We had leek soup, French onion soup, cassoulet and some special with prawns on a piece of bread. Prawns were under cooked and the bread was browned too much. The sauce was very good though. Cassoulet was not bad, but did not stand out. Duck in cassoulet was great, but sausage was not tasty at all. The whole cassoulet tasted as regular home food, which might be a plus. French onion soup was tasty but not hot enough. Leek soup was too bland.

Took my wife here for Valentine's Day dinner. We arrived 10 minutes early and were seated right away, which was nice. However, we were seated in the middle of many other close date tables and only a couple tables from the loud, open kitchen. It was difficult to have conversation over the noise and we felt very visible to everyone around us. We requested a table which was less 'public' and they said they would see but that they were busy with reservations. Throughout the night we saw one booth behind us which was open the entire time and two more booths that free'd up for a decent amount of time over the course of the dinner.\n\nWe had the tasting menu for $85 each and if you pick the right options you can get a good amount of food out of it but still on the pricier end. All of the food selections that I made were very good: beet/walnut salad, duck breast, braised short rib, & fruit sherbert. Good wine pours.\n\nBiggest positive: food\nBiggest negative: tables too close to each other, too loud, didn't move us when they could have

We visited on Valentines day for their four course tasting menu and loved every minute of it from the lovely reception, great service and really enjoyed Thierry (chef in the hat) coming by and saying hi to the tables. Four a four course meal, the servings were generous both in size and in contents. I started with a crab salad, duck in cherry sauce, braised short ribs over potatoes and finished with a chocolate mouse trio. The wine was outstanding and the cabernet paired well with the short ribs. My husband had the bourbon-heavy Revolver cocktail and loved it. thumbs up all around.

I love French food. I have eaten upstairs and met the big man himself and have had a fantastic experience. But for a Thursday night dinner this past week, I feel like it lost some attention to detail. The toilettes used to have candles and lovely French-smelling soaps and it felt like you were having an experience. There are staff there that are keeping the dream alive - I wish I had gotten his name, but he had longer hair and was dressed smartly and was so attentive - but when we got our server he kind of disappeared and we had to ask for him which - I get it, sometimes stuff happens and you're short a few folks or folks are being trained or someone's having a personal crisis - but I feel like there has been a loss of something that it used to have which was a sexy vibe. I think it's hard to be next to a Sheraton and be set apart. Somehow something happened and it felt like the service has taken a hit. On top of it my biz associate who I had referred Loulay to had met someone in the bar who said that the service was terrible. I think people are very judgy and I don't like to be judgy BUT when you're paying the prices you're paying at Loulay - you kinda gotta expect some magic. The magic was a bit missing.. unfortunately. What I will say, is that I WILL go back for day drinking at brunch and then shopping because the location is PERFECT for making bad decisions after drinking their amazing cocktails.

Our first visit while going to nearby ACT Theater. Good location for the theater. Very good service and nice to see a Patricia Green Pinot Noir. Interesting menu but very mediocre execution. Crab beignets were overwhelmed by too long in the deep fryer and greasy tasting. No crab flavor. Seared polenta was very firm and the wild mushrooms were greasy as well. Candied walnut and arugula salad was okay; French onion soup mediocre as well. After the award in 2014, perhaps things have slipped downhill.

We went to Loulay for a pretheater dinner. The restaurant is lovely and the noise level is great for having conversation. Nice selection of wine and by the glass. Food was good/not outstanding. Menu appears seasonal....I had the trout based on waiter's recommendation. Trout was lovely, but the brussel sprouts and almonds had a bit too much butter. I usually love anything in brown butter, but this was overwhelming. It was served over puréed butternut squash which was lovely, but sparse. We ordered the beignets for dessert....they tasted 'stale' almost...also a bit on the greasy side. Overall the service was awesome and they were very attentive and focused on getting us in and out to make the show without feeling rushed.

I have been to Loulay now several times. Each time it has been fantastic. Yesterday a friend and I went for lunch and we both had the short rib entree. It was outstanding. When I had taken about 5 bites, I kicked myself because I would have wanted to take a picture of my meal before I took the first bite: it was such a beautiful plate! Lusciously silky mashed potatoes with the short rib on top covered with a rich brown gravy along with a few carrots, mushrooms, pearl onions and some unknown vegetable that was deep fried and served as strips on top of the whole meal -- they were delicious, possibly deep fried turnip? I would order this one again in a heartbeat. Absolutely fabulous. The service was impeccable as usual.

My girlfriends and I needed a really light quick meal before a show, and Loulay worked out fine, although the menu of small plates / appetizers is somewhat limited. They wanted to take us to an upstairs table (no elevator) but one member of our group was somewhat disabled and unable to climb the stairs. The host seemed a bit snippy when he said we should have made a specific request for a downstairs table - but with this being my first visit, I didn't know there was an upstairs (with no elevator), AND when I booked the reservation via OpenTable there was no option to request a downstairs table.

This is an annual treat for us at Christmas. Its downtown and festive. On this occassion we dined with friends who had never eaten at Loulay. We came with a sensational selection of wines not usually found on a restaurants list. Food was good to outstanding. The cote de bœuf was exceptional, a real standout. Service was attentive and sommelier gracious with our wines. It was a celebtation of many things made better by our treatment at the restsurant.

Loulay is a great place for dinner if you're going to ACT. The food and service are great and Thierry was there to greet us. The only negative was that we were seated in the upstairs back room. We had to wait while tables were shuffled around even though we had a reservation and there was a large, somewhat noisy group seated near us that made conversation hard.

Excellent flavors--mostly. We shared a few small plates instead of one main, and enjoyed the experience. Highlights were the Muscovy duck and the seared foie gras, both of which are best enjoyed when combining all the elements on the plate into a single bite. The crab beignets were disappointing and a bit bland. The smoked faro salad was a delightful beginning: the smokiness of the grain combined very well with the peppery arugula and radishes.

Our second time at Loulay. First time at dinner. This time lunch after seeing the gingerbread display. Staff friendly and helpful. Server asked me if I needed my Hot Toddy reheated. Love that. I had, in my opinion, the best French onion soup ever. My husband had house salad and crab risotto with which he was very happy. My only disappointment was the foie gras that I chose for my entree. It was very, very brown and even burned some at one end. I ate it because it was still edilble and I didn't want to waste it. We would go back and I would even order foie gras again as I doubt that is a regular occurance.

I've been to Loulay 5 times ... all for dinner ... 4 times as a couple and 1 time with a group of 8. As a couple, I like sitting up in the balcony ... great views. All the food I have ever had has been very good ... even the burger! I like to call the food style, 'French with a Northwest spin.' The restaurant only has about 8 beer taps, but the selection has always been good and unique ... not the standard Northwest microbrews. The other 3 couples who were part of the group had never been to Loulay, but were very happy with my choice of restaurant. Our waiter did a fabulous job keeping everyone in the group happy. Four out of the five times I've been to Loulay, the 'Chef in a Hat' has been roaming the restaurant, so that made the visits even better.

We enjoyed a bottle of wine which was our servers first recommendation and it was wonderful. One of our starters was the crab beignets which were delicious. Dinner came very timely after we finished our appetizer and I loved my risotto; perfect portion and very tasty. I always take a peek at the dessert menu before I go to a restaurant or right when I get there so I know what to save room for. This time it was the Peanut Butter S'more. It was definitely worth it. As always at Loulay, it's nice to be in an adult environment, enjoying well-made food produced and served by polished professionals. We were seated in a comfortable, quiet booth, as requested, and service was prompt and friendly, as usual. The egg dishes were both lovely and tasted great, with the textures and seasonings just right, and the potatoes were exceptional. The portion size is perfect, enough food for a person without getting silly in terms of quantity. Server Marko was great company and did a fine job, and explained about some of the ingredients and the thinking behind them. I don't know why Loulay isn't overrun like some overrated breakfast spots where service never is anywhere near as good (Terra Plata comes to mind), but I'm glad that one can go here and enjoy a quiet, top quality breakfast.

Always excellent food and service, in general. However, I downgraded from 5* to 4* for two issues. The house salad was either too lightly dressed or insufficiently tossed, however, on the other hand, I would not want them drenched in dressing like some places make their salads - it's a fine balance. I was especially disappointed with the soggy French fries in in the Mussels dish. The mussels and the sauce were great, but I sure don't think the fries, put into the bowl with the mussels and excellent sauce, is a very good preparation. However, when I complained to the server, she brought me a nice helping of Loulay's side of fries which were excellent. On the good side, the Crab Beignets were a most tasty preparation.as was the Seared Polenta with wonderful wild mushrooms. For dessert we shared the Portuguese Beignets which is an interesting dish but not one we likely will order again. We will return to Loulay, especially prior to attending a performance at ACT Theatre, just a block away.

Great restaurant in downtown Seattle. Attractive contemporary environment.\n\nMy wife and I enjoyed the Candied Walnut & Arugula salad, Mussels and the Pork Chop. Everything was excellent. The Pork Chop at first glance appeared to be too thick to be tender and good. Not the case. You could cut it with one slice of the knife with a great taste to match. It was very good. My wife asked our server, Julie, if she could find out how the pork chop was prepared. Julie came back with a detailed description of the process to my wife's delight. She was also a very good server.\n\nScott Smith really knows his wines as well.\n\nIn summary, it was a wonderful evening dinner!

The ambiance is excellent and the upstairs dining option is a real plus. It's fine dining, folks. You have to expect the prices will reflect that. We spent $150 for 2 meals with drinks and dessert., main courses and appetizers. Everything was good. Can't say any one thing was spectacular. I would like to see the entrees grow in size. I had the flatiron steak with the demi-glace, which was nice. But given the price of a flatiron, not an expensive cut, I would expect at least 1/2 pound. Definitely did not get that. No carb. Some small onions and turnips. Would have liked a fuller plate. Easy reach of theatres and symphony does make it an additionally attractive destination. Plus City Center parking is very near. That was free as we had a drink at the Palomino and got the card stamped.

The French onion soup was spectacular. The food and ambiance was just wonderful, and it was amazing to watch the renowned chef Rautureau stop at every table and chat even though it was incredibly busy in the restaurant. Loulay is a jewel. A much different experience than his other restaurants (Rover's and Luc), both of which we also enjoyed very much. Loulay is big, noisy, urban and bustling. We were celebrating our anniversary with an early dinner before the theater. We were taken to a table on the highest level of the restaurant overlooking the Sheraton lobby entrance. Though not ideal, it was relatively quiet - at first. The food was terrific, as were the cocktails, much better than expected. Unfortunately by the end of the meal we were stranded at our table for two, surrounded by three large tables of six or more, one with multiple young children. It was very loud, and while not the worst dining experience ever, certainly no where near a good one. The server did apologize to my husband as we were leaving, but no accommodation (offer of another table) was conveyed during the dinner. A shame, as my meal was delicious - a scallop/spring pea starter, and the fish special were at Canlis level, the house salad was crisp, light, and fresh.\nNo desire to go back after dinner for two trapped in the party room.

We were excited to go to this wonderful Seattle gem. Having been a fan of the Chef in the Hat from Masterchef, we were looking forward to trying his food. It did not disappoint. We started with an appetizer of Crab Beignets: they were delicious, the harissa aioli was added just the right amount of heat which was tempered with the cool micro greens. My wife saw the look in my eye and quickly admonished me not to lick the plate. My wife had the risotto which was delicious and beautiful with edible lily pads on the top as a garnish. I had the Muscovy Duck: both my wife and I decided that I had chosen the better meal, the flavor was outstanding and I would order it again without a seconds hesitation. Once again, I would have cast aside the thin vestiges of polite society and licked my plate clean. Lastly, we ordered the seafood bouillabaisse: the mussels were cooked to absolute perfection, the most tender mussels I have ever had.\n\nThen the night was capped off by a personal visit by chef Thierry Rauturaeau. I was just barely able to restrain my little-girl squeal of delight. Obviously, I am not a proud man. \n\nAs you can surmise, I would wholeheartedly recommend Loulay. Go on, you deserve this.

I've found dining at Loulay to be a very uneven experience: sometimes the food is wonderful and sometimes, like this last time, it's just...meh. The menu is definitely for foodies--with the exception of the burger and a side dish of 'roasted' chicken breast (more on that later), the dishes seem precious--too many disparate ingredients heaped on what was once a decent dish, causing it to to taste of nothing and everything. I ordered the 'roasted' chicken breast and got on grey-ish, wet piece of chicken that I wasn't sure was completely cooked through. For the talent level of the chef, it was a disappointing meal, and I for am not in an hurry to go back.

We've dined here several times. It never disappoints. Closest thing to perfection one can get, if you like French and Thierry Rautereau's food. There is nothing here not to like. We brought in our wines and they were expertly managed, save that the temp was not quite cool enough. Best domestic (U.S.) presentation I've ever had for terrine of foie gras. Our entrees of halibut and a pork chop were perfectly cooked, though we requested that their degree of doneness be less than what is normally served. It was as we requested. Desserts were lovely. In a city like Seattle where there are so many new and exciting restaurants, you really have to stand out. Or if you don't, deliver at least value for your money. Though Loulay is pretty good, for the price they charge, you can do much better. We had the foie gras terrine on brioche but really this brioche looked more like a piece of toast. Though the terrine was tasty, by the time you get to the end of the plate, the 'toast' was soggy... would have much preferred a crusty piece of french bread. For my main course, I had the pork chop, which was good, but for $35, meh. Overall a decent meal, but when I look at how much we paid for the meal, it's hard to justify going back and not choosing a different restaurant over this place.

Beautiful restaurant. The service was a bit snooty, and the portions were criminally small. I ordered the cod, which was excellent, but which the menu said came with Brussels sprouts. The use of the plural in that case was a bit deceptive. I, in fact, was served one lonely Brussels sprout. It was very good, but the whole dish could have been improved by the addition of 3 or 4 more sprouts. I asked my server if I might have some bread with my salad (which was excellent), and she seemed a little surprised, and said, 'Yes, I can bring you some bread if you like.' Of course I would like; why else would I ask? She should have offered it without my asking. Ten seconds later, a plate of really good bread was delivered, so it wasn't like they had to go rustle some up from the kitchen. The food was good, but I got some weird vibes from the place. I love the ambiance of Loulay and have had a number of tasty meals there however this time for lunch I was a bit disappointed. Kale salad had a too much vinegar and the chicken sandwich was rather tasteless and very little chicken!! I was in the bar the night before and both of us had delicious carrot and beet salads! I will be back though to try again!

Since a great meal a few months ago, I've been telling my parents about how great Loulay is. So, when they came to visit we had to go. Unfortunately it was very disappointing. The server ignored us when she couldn't find our wine and brought out soggy mussels and fries that had clearly been sitting in the kitchen for a while. The food was also nothing spectacular. There are many other restaurants in Seattle I'll go to before trying Loulay again.

We went to Loulay on our wedding anniversary, mostly because we really like Chef Thierry Rautureau's restaurant Luc in Madison Valley. Loulay is a little more formal, a beautiful room. We had several dishes, topped off with a chocolate desert on which they had written in chocolate 'Happy Anniversary!'\n\nThey will pour their wines by the glass either 3 oz. or 6 oz. at a time, which makes it easy to taste a few that look good. A good mix of Columbia Valley/Walla Walla, California and French labels.\n\nThe total bill was not cheap, but actually a little less than we had anticipated. Decent value. We will be back.

This restaurant will become a downtown standard of excellence for many years to come just like Rovers was the same in Madison Park. You can't go wrong on any level. The high ceiling layout is a unique but they have done a great job with the booths to create an intimate dining experience. The food is as fine as it gets and we had excellent service. I even found a new Washington red blend on the wine list that was a great value. Really nice dining experience.

We were longtime fans of Rover's and were disappointed when Thierry Rautureau decided to close. We have also enjoyed Luc. Now we've finally made it to Loulay and the food did not disappoint. The sauces all sported Rautureau's signature touch - complex but smooth, rich without being cloying, in other words, delicieux. Service was professional and attentive. The restaurant space presents a picturesque view of the financial district high rises; the decor contemporary yet traditionally French. Loulay's only downside is that it's not Rover's, with its private courtyard and cozy country house ambience. Otherwise, highly recommended.

My first time at Loulay, for a business lunch. There was just nothing special about the place at all. The hostess was nice. The waiter was brusque and not particularly attentive. The food was fine, but not special. There was nothing about the restaurant that would draw me back again. It's not bad, but there are better choices.

We have generally liked Loulay as a pre theatre dinner option. On this occasion it was disappointing. The heirloom tomato salad was delicious but the halibut was dry and while listed as an entree was served in a rather small portion with very few accompaniments with the kitchen having omitted the corn souffle. At $36 it seemed exorbitant. The server was very good and attentive.

Went for lunch on a quiet Monday. Server was very friendly but overall service was mediocre, not enough attention to detail. The restaurant has a nice lunchtime ambiance and great booths but it's already looking worn around the edges, for example wood table tops badly need refinishing. Of course no tablecloths (at least at lunch) to hide the poor looking tables. \n\nOverall ambiance is chic and nice -- booths feel private, the space feels airy and light. Noise level was low. My guess is that this place has a great vibe on a busy dinner service.\n\nService problems were largely attention to detail, little things -- asked for sugar for coffee and received a bunch of sweetener packets and no real sugar. When it arrived, the sugar cubes came with no spoon and were not on their own saucer. Server herself was friendly and efficient but overall it was disappointing.\n\nFood was good to very good -- seafood stew was excellent. On the other hand, french onion soup was a disappointment, the soup was not hot enough, soup was too rich if anything, and not enough cheese melted on top. The non-alcoholic drinks were hit or miss.\n\nValue was not great -- portions were small for the price. Lunch for two with no alcohol and no dessert was $70, not great value.\n\nOverall, cannot recommend this restaurant.

My 2 year old daughter was fussy, crying and a waiter spoke disparagingly of my family with a group that the waiter was serving. I informed the waiter that I overheard him and he appeared embarrassed but he did not apologize. The restaurant was not child friendly, not helpful. For example, staff standing at the door did not even offer to hold the door or help when we were struggling with the stroller and the door. My wife and I found the staff aloof, insensitive. Also, there didn't seem to be any ethnic diversity amongst the restaurant staff employees. To pose it in the vernacular 'what's up with that?'

Loulay consistently has excellent food and attentive, careful service. The menu is set up (roughly) by portion size, small, medium and large. We were seated at a lovely table by the windows. \n\nCaprese salad was delicious but with limited mozzerella. \n\nSeared Scallop second course was likewise delicious but contained two sea scallops for $22. \n\nGrilled King Salmon was intensely fishy to taste and was served luke warm for $38. \n\nSteak Frite was brought to our table barely warm, intensely chewy and without tenderness. The side salad had numerous pieces of old, brown lettuce. \n\nWine list was impressive and weighted toward the high end and moderately high end price range. To my recollection there were remarkably few choices (perhaps 3 or 4) for red wine under $40.\n\nAtmosphere and service was good. After we registered our feedback to our server, we were given about a $30 discount on our bill. \n\nConclusions: uneven food preparations, overpriced and not a good value for money spent.

Dinner at Loulay is always a treat...but this time was magical!! We started with a house made buratta with peaches and basil, probably the best appetizer I've ever ordered. The combination was so unexpected and yet so perfect together that I had to wonder why it hadn't been done before, the peaches were that perfect ripened sweet, soft...I could go on and on! Then the chef came out to our table and it was to fun to talk with the famous 'chef in the hat'. Scallops were cooked perfectly, and I am very picky about them and don't order them often, but the waiter suggested when I asked and I am so glad he did!! Service was fun, as we were celebrating, but was unobtrusive with our neighbors who seem to be having a more romantic evening. I can highly recommend this wonderful restaurant!

We were pleasantly surprised and would go back again in a heartbeat. First, I asked for a quiet table in the reservation - and we were shown to a table on the upper mezzanine that was nicely quiet because of the lower ceiling and distance from the noisier, lower scene. Second, our server was terrific - very friendly but professional at the same time - though he did let us wait a bit too long to order dessert. But the food ... oo-la-la. Was excited to learn there was a chef's counter hoping we could watch and perhaps interact with the kitchen staff as we very often do at 13 Coins at SeaTac. This was disappointing as there was no good line of sight. The counter was elevated in front of us and piled with stacks of dishes. We had to peek around the serving ware to try to see what they were cooking. There is a huge difference between the experience of eating great food with friendly servers. They were all well trained but somewhat stiff. It was still very creamy delicious, like Rovers and Luc. The pork cheeks were flavorful, and the perfect sized serving for a light eater. Seafood stew was a satisfying entire for a bigger eater.\n\nAs always, the service was attentive and the servers really know the food!\n\nWe ate upstairs and really liked that seating. It was quieter than being seated downstairs. We will likely ask for a table upstairs next time.

Rovers was our favorite restaurant in Seattle, and we were sad when it closed. We have eaten at Loulay a number of times, hoping to glimpse some of the old magic. Until yesterday, the magic eluded us. Yes, the food was good, but not exceptional. Yesterdays lunch was exceptional. I had seared scallops, one friend had the Dungeness Crab Risotto, another had the Salad Nicoise. All were wonderful.\n\nService at Loulay is always excellent.

We arrived early (4PM) after a Sunday matinee performance at the Paramount Theater. The restaurant did not open until 5PM so we sat in the bar and ordered a beer (Pike Brewing Kilt Lifter $7) and a carafe (24 oz) of white house wine for $28. Most of the wines on the menu were much more expensive. The house wine was light and refreshing but not memorable. We both had French onion soup, a house specialty and it was excellent. I make my own onion soup and this broth was rich and flavorful topped with lots of cheese but I would have added a shot of brandy to finish. At $11, the soup was not a bargain. My wife had bouillabaisse ($27) and I had the fresh catch, Ling cod ($34). Prices were comparable to other seafood restaurants in Seattle. Desert was Spiced beignets ($10) which we shared. Service was attentive and professional and the atmosphere relaxing and calm. 2 weeks prior, we completed a 20 day cruise on a Holland America ship and we found the LouLay food comparable to the Rotterdam Dining room (not the buffet) but at a much higher price. While we thoroughly enjoyed the dinner, nothing made us say, 'Wow, that place is really worth coming back to.' We have several well known seafood restaurants in Federal Way and DeMoines on the south sound that serve up a comparable meal for at least 20% less and you have a waterfront view.

I was coached to ask for a booth in the back, and it was a good thing because otherwise we'd never have been able to have a conversation over the noise. The food and wine were wonderful and the 'large' wine pour was adequate, but alas, the prices are beyond my limit for anything but a SUPER special occasion.

This was a first visit and overall a good experience. With a reservation we were seated in a booth at the distracting foot of the stairs and right next to the waiters station. Service and drinks/wine were great. Appetizer portions very tasty, but too small for the price and the same with second and third menu items we ordered (you drop $300+ and you should get good portions for the money). My duck breast was rubbery and not tender. The crab begnits, onion soup and house hot chocolate tasted great. Again overall good, but room for improvement. This recent restaurant trend of over priced tiny plates and portions is a real shame.

We finally visited Loulay after months of eyeing the menu and reading reviews. We took our 8-year-old daughter for brunch. It was terribly disappointing. I ordered the Eggs Benedict and the Hollandaise sauce was so heavily seasoned with lemon it. So much so, that it was overpowering. The poached egg was overcooked because the yolk did not ooze out once cut (of of the two didn't have any liquid yoke). The ham was delicious! The Brioche French Toast was pretty good but the pears caused the bread to be extremely soggy. I do understand that Brioche is a soft bread, but it was soggy when it arrived at our table. We ordered a side of bacon that was torched. It was black and brittle. \n\nPositives: brunch beverages, hot chocolate, ham, scrambled eggs, brioche toast, creme brulee.\nNegatives: Hollandaise sauce, poached eggs, French Toast, bacon.\n\nOverall: While some of the menu items were wonderfully delicious, the meal was disappointing for the most part. We won't visit again and won't recommend it anyone visit it. We expected high quality of food from this high quality of chef and restaurant.

Our server, Deena (sp?) was lovely and we really enjoyed the wine she recommended. However, the food was barely so-so. The crab beignet was awful - oily & crusty hard on the outside and gluey gummy on the inside. The rest of the meal is barely memorable. Also, we asked for a romantic table and we were crammed against a window smack dap in the middle of the ruckus. One can barely move between tables to use the restroom. We've been here before and had a nice time, but not this time.

The food was delicious and is true to French cuisine. There was even a French speaking family seated next to us. Our server was thorough in explaining the beverages and specials and provided the correct silverware for the dishes we selected. However, I found Loulay to be overpriced. I incorrectly assumed that the price rating of 2 dollar signs out of 4 would be affordable. Turns out an appetizer dish consisting of half a quail (a tiny bird), one fig, and a smear of puréed potatoes costs $20. My fiend had a $13 glass of wine (apparently that was the cheap wine). Unfortunately, Loulay is simply out of my price range.

Upon arrival for our 5:45 reservation, we were asked if we had any time constraints. We said 8:00 at Benaroya Hall, and our server said that'd be no problem. However, after serving us dinner, he disappeared for the next hour, leaving the person who was filling our water glasses to take our dessert order (and she didn't show up for more than a half hour), bring our check, and finish our meal. He showed up just in time for me to be signing the bill at 7:55, after I tried desperately to hurry things along, to no avail. Couldn't get anyone to give us the time of day. Ended up late to the concert because of a total disappearance of service. Unacceptable.

This is probably the 11th or 12th time we've been to Loulay's. It's normally our favorite restaurant, but this time, not so much. In fact, if this had been our first time there, we would never go back. In the past our meals have been anywhere from some of the best food, to not bad. But this time, my comment has to be disgusting and even inedible. My salmon dish was so sweet, it might have been too sweet for a dessert. My husband's fries were as he described them, 'too hard to eat'. On the plus side, my salmon however inedible, was cooked perfectly, and my husband's burger was good. The only thing that saved this horrible dinner was our fantastic server. I wish I could remember his name, because he did everything he could to make the dinner salvageable. I really hope the food we had the other night was not indicative of the new normal. We may give Loulay's another chance, but it may be time to move on.

We've been here twice for dinner, and twice for breakfast when in town. Every time, we have experienced new flavors or combinations - from the pumpkin Napoleon dessert, not your typical creamy confection, but a delightful combination of savory and sweet - roasted pumpkin chunks between pastry and a lovely sauce, to the braised short ribs full of flavor and the most tender I have ever had. You just want to sit and savor the textures and flavors. We generally bring a bottle of wine from our cellar, but a glass of Sancerre was delightful with the smoked salmon appetizer. My husband had the foie gras with bread pudding and a Sauternes for dessert! The view from the second floor seating out to the tree branches is very peaceful, my favorite spot in the restaurant. The food was good and creative, but tiny and slow coming. This was clearly a kitchen issue (and perhaps the chef should spend more time in it on a busy night like this was rather than out schmoozing his pals). Of course, the experience was made worse by the fact that we had zero communication with our server. Had he simply stopped by every now and then to let us know what was up, offer more wine, something to let us know he was at all concerned, that would have gone a long way. Seeing our frustration, our busser, Nefi, stepped up to the plate big time and, as a result, my husband made our thanks known. Nefi is the best thing going in your restaurant. I'm guessing Loulay is better suited to breakfast, but unfortunately not ready for prime time.

I looked this restaurant up on Open Table to be within walking distance from our hotel, we got a bit lost and so were 20 minutes late for our reservation which had been classed as no show. We were shown to a table for 2 in front of the kitchen which I declined and then sat at a tall bartable. Our waiter was cheerful and outstanding, not so much the hostess. Food was good, wine list good wouldn't go again.

My husband eats at Loulay a lot for work, but I rarely join him. He was familiar with the menu so was able to give us good advice on ordering. I found the dinner portions to be very appropriately sized. Big enough to satisfy, but no so big as to be too stuffed for drinks, deserts, appetizers. I really enjoyed the Neah Bay lingcod. My husband had the steak. Very professional wait staff was completely service oriented!

I couldn't find an open reservation and had to settle for the restaurant next to the Seattle Sheraton. And, I am SO GLAD I did! Loulay is a great restaurant! The food is excellent, the wait staff goes above and beyond. We liked this place so much that we went back for brunch and enjoyed that as well. Great find! Don't be afraid! It was wonderful!!!

I think loulay is one of the best dinning experiences that I have had in a long time. The food is so so soo good, and the atmosphere is both sophisticated and laid back. Crab beignets are always great, but what I like about this place is aside from a few staple dishes like the beignets the menu is constantly changing. There's always a surprise and each dish is better than the next. We had a rhubarb dessert that was so refreshing and creative, I'm still talking about it days later. I would highly recommend this place, if you like delicious food you will like this.

Value was very good but found wine prices high due to selection. A few more moderate selections would be appreciated.

We went for Mothers Day. They did do some nice touches like give my wife a rose which was awsome. And the ambience is really nice. My wife said she liked it. The best part was the mussels. I'd say my daughters burger and fries were good. But the crab Beignet was like eating typical fried bread with little crab. And the seafood stew broth base was a bit strong and overpowering. It wasn't bad, but definitely not French.

Had a truly wonderful pre-theater dinner experience. The food and the ambiance were great, but what really stood out was the service. Friendly without being intrusive, willing to make recommendations without ever making us feel like we were being 'sold' the high priced items, giving us plenty of time when we wanted it and providing some special touches that made us feel pampered (Even bring us the leftover broth from our mussels in a clean bowl with some bread when we raved over it). Will definitely be going back.

Can't really comment too much on the ambiance, as I was sat at the bar. Can a single lady have a table, or does she need to be tucked away? And no, I don't want my drink bought for me. The bartender was very nice and accommodating though. Recommended a great salad and made me a fantastic drink. Overall an alright place, but they certainly didn't win me over.

They stuck our party of 3 next to two large groups of drunk convention-goers, so the ambience was not enjoyable. I started by telling the server what time we needed to leave because we had a show to see and that I was ordering a light entree because I wanted dessert. Food was still really slow to arrive and it was cold when it did. I would have sent it back if not for the time constraint. My husband commented that servers seemed 'bewildered' not just at our table, but watching them at their station and serving other tables. I was brought a dish I didn't order that belonged to another table. Our server didn't come back with dessert menus until 20 minutes before the time I told her we needed to leave. Dessert arrived 10 minutes before we needed to leave so I had to inhale it, which really detracted from the experience. when I went to the restroom, two servers were blocking my way for the entire route while they were debating something instead of stepping to the side.

A year ago I had a superb lunch, so I was anticipating the same. Unfortunately, my lunch wasn't nearly as good. The salad was fine, although not great. The main course, though, scallops in a beet sauce, was not very good. The scallops weren't very tender, and the sauce was way to thin and not that flavorful, the beets undercooked, and the whole dish just wasn't successful. The dessert, beignets, however, was delicious.

Picked Loulays for lunch as it was close to my friends work and looked like a fun newer restaurant to check out.\n\nIt is a fun place, great ambiance, smaller menu but still good choices and our meals were good, but not outstanding.\n\nThe service a just fair. Had to repeatedly ask for water/lemonade refills. Things were forgotten and just not totally up to par in the service department. It was not bad service, but certainly nothing to brag about and actually for their prices I expect better service.\n\nI would return and give them another chance, but the first impression was just 'okay.'

Loulay is OK - indeed, a bit more than OK. It could fairly easily be a lot more than that, but it wasn't when I had a business lunch there today. It was a busy lunchtime, but I was there at 12.30, and soon after we had ordered the entree of the day, the manager came to tell us it had sold out - and this well before 1pm. The service was remarkably slow. The 2-course set lunch is a house salad and the entree. The entree did not arrive until 1.30 - luckily, my guest and I had much to talk about, but this would have been a problem for some business lunches. The food was fine, although the scallop entree was ungenerous boasting a whole two scallops, and them not quite perfectly cooked. And the fire alarm went off! Just not really quite there....

Although very flavorful and packed with seafood, the clams in the fish chowder had excessive grit. I mentioned this to the waiter who immediately said he would let the chef know. Soon after that he came back to say they would not charge for my meal. Then the manager came over to check on us and make sure that I had enough to eat. Which of course I did, because in spite of the grit, the chowder was very good. The manager spent quite a bit of time with us...and on a busy Saturday evening! The only complaint I have is that our waiter didn't inform us of the house carafe of wine for $15. The fish entrée was cooked to perfection - although the sauce was a bit sweet. It's very convenient to the ACT theatre. We will definitely go there again.

First off, when we first were seated in a very private booth, we asked to move to a spot that shared the chic atmosphere that we'd experienced on a previous visit. Without hesitation, we were moved to a table that was perfect. We were on the main floor, with a central bar area, that had a huge mirror reflecting an equally large chandelier. The service and the food were exceptional. The server was friendly, knowledgeable, and informative. We took several of his (Brian's) recommendations, and they were spot on. It's always nice to dine where the food is as good as, or better than one can cook for themselves. The short ribs were the best I've had, and the charcuterie was notable. The mussels with fries were unique, and although they were drizzled with aioli and the fries were drenched in a simple sauce, it somehow worked OK.

There were seven of us in our party, and we were placed in the center of the main floor. Though we were surrounded by people in booths and tables, we could hear ourselves perfectly. Our server was attentive but laid back, relaxed but on it. She handled us all, with our weird sharing orders, brilliantly. At the end of the evening, she went out of her way to split the bill for us. And we can't forget a visit by The Chef in the Hat! The food was tasty as usual, though I would never call Loulay's food exquisite.

We specifically pointed out how nice and quiet it was (although all the tables were full) and he said he put in sound proofing. The food and service were great but it was so much more enjoyable to be able to have a conversation without raising our voices. It just seems like so many restaurants these days are ridiculously noisy.

We have eaten here several times, and have always been pleased by the dining experience. Unfortunately, the kitchen hit several sour notes this past Friday. First of all, we were seated in the upper level, with a breathtaking view of.....the Sheraton Hotel's valet parking!! Not recommended! I had the smoked salmon starter with beets. A misnomer, as the salad was primarily beets with a few curls of salmon. Good, but not what I had anticipated. My dining partners both had the French Onion soup. Both said it was rather salty and was primarily broth. It was missing something. Something like the onions! Very few onions indeed. I had the sturgeon entree. The fish was well done, but the accompanying vegetables were VERY undercooked. Closer to being raw as to cooked. One of my partners, wanting a smaller meal, had the appetizer mussels. Served in a very peculiar method. The pomme frites were placed under the mussels, rather than alongside. Although they soaked up the mussels' liquor, it also negated the point of the pommes being frite in the first place! Also, they were curiously slathered in a coating of aioli across the shells. Different, bud decidedly odd! All in all, not our best experience at Loulay. As I keep hoping, perhaps the kitchen was just a bit off stride that evening. We will be back, but with fingers crossed for a better experience.

We were LUC regulars who just moved downtown, and chose Loulay for our 28th anniversary. The only negative thing to say is that diners seated in the row of tables on the floor as opposed to booths or the balcony do not have the same experience. Food and Service were impeccable. Had we drawn the long straw for a booth rather than one of the crowded 'in line' tabels, it might have been perfect.

We always enjoy the excellent food and comfortable setting at Loulay. Happy to have valet parking, we were fortunate enough to find street parking directly across from the restaurant. We started with Mimosas for the table -- just lovely with Perricone Farms orange juice and sparkling wine -- and café au lait with an order of spiced beignets dusted in coarse sugar. A great way to start the breakfast, dipping into the vanilla crème and dark chocolate sauce. \n\nThe crowd was light for noon, so service was fast - we received our entrées quickly. As a table we enjoyed the vegetable hash, with parsnips and other root veggies under a perfectly cooked poached egg and rich hollandaise. (I really wanted a few expertly cooked potatoes, and was happy to add some from one of the other dishes at the table.) We also devoured the French omelette and Eggs Benedict... again, both expertly prepared and presented. \n\nThe only thing taking away from this A+ meal was the missing brioche and como bread: we were served dry English muffins in place of the breads without warning, only finding the substitutes after digging into our meals and asking.

We had reservations for 6:45 and arrived a few minutes late. We were told our table would be ready soon; the people using our table were in no way ready to leave. Because we had tickets at 8 for ACT, we took a table at the very top. The waitperson was very pleasant but seemed to have too many tables to be attentive to all her tables. In addition, sitting on that level meant we received the 'fried food' smell on our clothes that meant we were looked strangely by our seatmates at ACT, in addition to needing to have clothes cleaned. We LOVE Loulay, but this was not the best experience--and won't eat on that level again. And--why wasn't a table available? How many tables were given away to walk-ins that night?
