Pros: Simply perfect! We received a warm welcome, complete with refreshing home made apple juice, from Catherine, who was an exceptional hostess. The location of the property is simply stunning and the quality and cleanliness of the rooms cannot be faulted. Catherine was able to recommend some excellent places to eat, and I would be happy to endorse those recommendations. Breakfast was wonderful with a selection of croisant, bread, and home made cakes and jams, fruit etc. Did I mention the apple juice? Try it, it's wonderful. Although we only stayed initially for one night, we enjoyed our stay so much we booked another night on our return journey. On our second stay the breakfast changed to include home made crepes, which were gain wonderful.
Cons: Nothing.

Pros: Staying in an interesting old property off the beaten track. Friendly host. Lots of space to sit & relax. Excellent continental style breakfast served by Anne in the kitchen:juice, yoghurt and several fruit preserves all homemade were delicious.

Pros: A beautiful house in a quaint town. The loft room was so spacious for our family and it was very comfortable, so cosy that I just wanted to stay there and enjoy the homey feel upon checkin. Kids enjoyed the home cinema entertainment. Outside the garden was a great space for my daughter to explore with the river a great place to go for a quiet walk and enjoy the atmosphere. My only regret is not staying here longer, I only had one day. Breakfast was really nice and it felt like an old style B&B with the owner catering for us personally. Owner spoke excellent English but was patient to entertain listening to our efforts at French too.

Pros: We stayed at the chateau for two nights in order to attend a ukulele festival at nearby St Denis D'Anjou. The owner was most accommodating allowing us to check in early so we didn't miss any of the festival. The chateau was in a beautiful location and the facilities were excellent. The chance to make tea or coffee was much appreciated as was the owners thoughtful provision of a jug of milk to make a cup of tea ! The owner spoke some English and was most welcoming. Merci Michel pour un sejour tres agreable!
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Atmosphere. Host explained and provided map to get to a local restaurant as well refuelling motorcycle. Very friendly to bikers with safe and secure parking. Breakfast very good.
Cons: Nothing of significance.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The location is fantastic. The hosts are more than accommodating in every aspect. There is a welcoming smile for you with a little history of the place from the owners. The ambience and decor of the place makes you feel almost like french aristocracy. They let you play the antique grand piano but only if you can play. There are lots of antiques and curios everywhere that make you feel like your staying in a period drama from the early 19th century. Like you've gone back in time. Like staying in a french museum for chateau life that is absolutely brimming from wall to wall with something to catch your attention and stir an emotion. Nothing is locked away in a glass cabinet so you can touch everything too. But only if you respect it. The bedrooms are lovely, comfortable and clean. Very romantic. Theres a pool too which isn't like something you'd get in a 5 star Mauritius beach hotel but it's more than good enough. You are provided with your own breakfast room all laid out in regal style which again, you feel like your in Downton abbey. Your also given your own basket with all the picnic items you'll need. All in all, the best place we have ever stayed for welcome, comfort, quiet, peace and ambience. The only modern thing here is the wifi, so if you crave snacks, tv, a bar and entertainment then forget it. Go elsewhere and I'll go here.
Cons: There is nothing not to like. If your fussy about there being snacks available or a tv then you'll be disappointed. But that's your problem not theirs.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: The warm welcome, the beautifully restored Grange and well appointed bathroom. The delicious dinner prepared from produce from the kitchen garden complimented by a bottle of Anjou; the wine of the region. There was a huge choice for breakfast including homemade jams; superb and something for everyone. The beautiful park-like garden beautifully kept and lovingly tended by the owner which extends down to the river with views of the old mill on the opposite bank. The tranquillity and peace after a long day on the road was just what was needed and greatly appreciated.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Excellent barn conversion accommodation, roomy bedroom, all facilities and a lovely location in beautiful garden. Wonderful dinner provided to weary travellers by arrangement and ver good breakfast.
7.5 Good
Pros: Large room and bathroom ~ light and airy
Cons: No-one present at location when we arrived ~ it took 30 minutes to find someone to come from elsewhere to admit us after we managed to find a telephone number to call a member of staff just moments before we were about to leave and search elsewhere. No attempt had been made to advise us of this problem.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything about our stay was exceptional from start to finish; our hostess, Chris, produced a fabulous four-course meal with wine, and a delicious breakfast was served the next day with croissants fresh from the boulangerie, and home-made conserves. We discussed politics, wine and history around the table with other guests - and put the world to rights. Our bedroom was huge, with antique furnishings and quality bedding and towels. The staircase was just beautiful and the whole property has been renovated to an extremely high standard. Although off the beaten track, Le Manoir de la Vieille Douve is definitely worth a detour and with Chris and Charles' plans to create some gîtes in one of the barns, along with their already completed large indoor swimming pool, we will definitely be returning soon. Thank you for an absolutely fantastic stay. À bientôt!

9.5 Excellent
Pros: I can't fault this property in any way. It is a fantastic homestay. The room is spotlessly clean and includes a small kitchenette and bathroom so it is completely self contained while the owners live nextdoor. The hosts speak a little English and are very accommodating. We arrived in the evening and cooked our dinner. The countryside around the house is very pretty and you will only hear the birds....no traffic!
Cons: Though the location was not difficult to find, it is a little bit off the beaten track...but that adds to its charm.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very pleasant stay. Friendly proprietors. Good continental breakfast. Very conveniently located in the village.
Cons: Whilst the shower was screened it was still in the bedroom. We would have prefered a totally private bathroom.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Excellent B&B, very spacious upper floor suite. Very clean, comfortable beds. Breakfast was outside in the garden, superb! Pancakes, crusty bread, home made jams etc.
Cons: The upstairs suite was accessible by outside stairs. This was fine for us, but would not be suitable for very small children, the disabled or elderly infirm. Unfortunately the temperatures whilst we were there were at an all time high, and the rooms were very hot. This was in no way detrimental to the owners of the B&B, but maybe extra fans would help in extreme weather highs.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Very welcoming hosts, large comfortable bedroom, excellent breakfast, lots of delicious, home produced food. And a really large powerful shower. Very secure parking. And our dog was welcome at no extra cost.
Cons: Steep, narrow steps up to the room.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Liked everything
Cons: Nothing
6.3 Good
Pros: Spacious comfortable chateau. Quiet location. Owner v affable and attentive when around.
Cons: More like being a house guest than staying in a fully serviced hotel. If there was dinner there was no choice. Average quality and over priced. Beds/towels changed daily. Room v comfortable but never given a key so couldn’t lock it. Drinks available but helped yourself and made a note in a book. Shower in our room was unsuitable for anyone with mobility issues - v high step to get over. Toilet in ridiculously small cubicle. We joked you had to back into it. Not easy to find. In the middle of nowhere with poor signposting. V overpriced compared to similar properties we stayed at on the same holiday.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Staying in the elegant Château was like travelling back in time. Furnishings were authentic period pieces and the night was starry and full of the sounds of frogs, crickets, and birds. Food was beautifully presented and delicious. Perfect!

8.3 Excellent
Pros: Enjoyed the experience of staying in a chateau for a reasonable price. The owner was very friendly and welcoming. The grounds are well worth walking around, and the town is pleasant. Breakfast was simple but adequate. There is a restaurant within walking distance for an evening meal.
Cons: We arrived and there was no one at the reception. By chance we noticed a small post-it on the window with a phone number to ring. The owner answered and though he was off site soon arrived to let us in. Because of the age and nature of the building some of the facilities are basic, but perhaps this adds to the experience.
6.8 Good
Pros: To stay at Chateau de Craon was an enjoyable experience. The grounds were inviting encouraging us to walk and to explore and we found our trip overall quite relaxing. The owner was extremely welcoming and friendly. The home-made jam very tasty.
Cons: Lack of room attention - i.e. toilet roll, soap, dry towel, bed making and perhaps a choice of cheese for breakfast would have been an extra change on one of the mornings. Arriving back at the Chateau after dark if we'd gone out for dinner was not great - no lights to welcome us even though it wasn't late at night. I would pack a torch for our next stay.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: We stayed in a chateau. What more can you say. Our room was lovely. The host was great. Lovely breakfast room and best coffee so far. The creperie across the road did a great steak.
Cons: Nothing.

Pros: Amazing place. It is like stepping into an adventure experiencing surroundings that only exist in fairytales. Strangely enough, it felt like staying with family as the host was excellent, caring, thoughtful but not overbearing. All the details in small things, the furniture, the accessories everything fitting a life in a palace. For a brief moment, it felt just like that, living in a palace in another era.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The Chateau is really a special place to stop and spend time. The Count, Countess and their whole family were charming, welcoming and couldn't do enough to make our stay more comfortable. We made full use of the fantastic grounds and the swimming pool. Certainly one of the best places we have ever stayed in, in France and will definitely revisit. Highly recommended!!
Cons: Absolutely nothing, it had everything you could wish for.

9.3 Excellent
Pros: Very friendly staff who were more than helpful. Room location and facilities excellent. Love the little bag of sweets in the room and free water. Wifi was excellent.
Cons: I had an 5.30 start but after eating in the hotel the night before I got food poisoning which made my dash to the coast very eventful as I had to keep stopping and finding a toilet. The annoyance is I choose the expensive menu worst £50 I spent for one meal. I'll do basic next time.

8.8 Excellent
Pros: A fascinating old chateau. Large room and very helpful owner.
Cons: We had dinner at the chateau one night and, while the dinner was nice and it was great not having to drive “home”, it ende up being quite expensive taking into account the price of the wine and water.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Set in a beautiful location with charming and attentive hosts. Dinner, cooked and served by the hostess, was excellent and they went out of their way to help us to book our next night’s accommodation in the morning.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: We loved the beautiful Chateau and its very well kept gardens. The hosts were delightful and Valerie was always available for anything we required. Breakfasts were all homemade and delicious.
Cons: Poor wifi access
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Very exclusive and private as you are staying in a ancient family chateaux with lovely walked gardens, Lama’s, chickens and the owners friendly dogs (vodka). There is a fantastic walk or run alongside the river Mayenne just a few hundred yards away.
Cons: It is fairly expensive and dinner is good but simple home cooking
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The assortment of animals-goats chickens llamas dogs puppies even plus Louis couldn’t have been more attentive
Cons: Nothing
9.3 Excellent
Pros: The room is nice and clean. We came with dogs. With a big yard, they can run around. The dinner is so much fun. Starting with appetizer and talking to the owner and other guests before we are going to the dining room.
Cons: No WiFi connection.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful Chateau with an outstanding service. Valerie and her staff were very professional and accommodating. I recommend the place if you are in Anjou.
Cons: Nothing to complain about
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Authentic castle, with an atmospheric feeling. Very warm welcome by a bunch of youngsters. Comfortable room, at least twice as big as a classic branch hotel room.
Cons: Sorry to all these nice people, but I have to say this: the “table d’hôte” didn’t live up to its expectations. I choosed this accomodation because of mentionings of the lady of the houses cooking skills, but she was not at home ☹️
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Lovely hosts, exceptional breakfast & dinner & beautiful location
5.0 Okay
Pros: Grounds are delightful and area is quiet and pastoral. Hosts are welcoming, pleasant and interesting. Dinner was delicous, however not on usual France hotel cuisine standard.
Cons: Room uncomfortable and extremely cold at night. Shower difficult to enter/exit and inadequate shower soap and shampoo. Breakfast very basic. No key or lock on room. Lobby under renovation and no where to sit in room or out. Was promised fresh bread that didn't arrive and not offered eggs on second day. Left after two days and returned with partner to a civilised hotel, but left the hosts a present of 170euro for not staying the third night. Worst hotel value for money I ever encountered and I do travel a lot.

8.3 Excellent
Pros: Excellent parking Very good breakfast Good value for money
Cons: Not shown the pool evne though it is a main feature in advertising Very noisy group arriving late and shouting and laughing until gone midnight. Staff should advise that it must be quiet after 10.30.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: A lovely property , quite unusual in that there is access to a large dining area and kitchen with sink/dishwasher/basic cooking rings/microwave. French breakfast was included in my excellent room rate. The room was a little basic but very comfortable. The towels were in the bathroom cupboard. Overlooks an attractive medieval village. Proprietor charming, friendly, caring.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Brilliant if you love a quiet place. Very relaxing time
8.8 Excellent
Pros: We had a small self-contained house on a site with the owners’ accommodation and some other gîtes. There was lots of space for the children to play as well as swings and a small swimming pool (indoor). As we were only there for one night we brought food with us but it was quite close to a smaller medieval town with a restaurant or two. The owner was very welcoming and helpful. There were a couple of friendly cats and a goat which entertained the children! Lovely place to stay - very quiet but not far from a town.
Cons: Liked it all and, given it was an overnight stop en route to the north, we booked something really inexpensive so, the accommodation was basic but perfectly clean and, as a converted barn it was full of character. Only a couple of niggles - like the bathroom which was functional but adequate and the lack of internet. No towels were provided but I suspect if we had asked we could have been given some.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: A quaint little gite in a good location
3.8 Mediocre
Pros: I was advised in advance that there would be no hot water owing to a mechanical failure. I was invited to cancel the booking.
Cons: there is no food or bar available in the evening, neither at the property nor in the local village. There is a supermarket a few kilometres away and the hotel owner said that I could use a gas ring, fridge, kettle and the microwave oven at the property
7.5 Good
Pros: It's in a lovely location. Breakfast was good with fresh croissants and baguette
Cons: The room we stayed it was rather outdated. It needs renovating.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Château des Lutz is a charming and elegant place full of History. Perfect place to stay for a couple or with the full family. We will be back!
7.0 Good
Pros: The location was great and close to a small village with a great restaurant (La Taverne). The chateaux itself is a lovely looking property which has been in the family for generations apparently. The public rooms are furnished with antiques and give an authentic experience.
Cons: The bedding looked like it had seen better days and the towels were hard and worn. The toiletries on offer were mostly empty, no soap provided other than a couple of little sachets of shower gel. Thankfully I didn't need to use any as I had brought my own! The bath was child size in the room I stayed in.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The owner of this beautiful rural castle was very welcoming, offering us an excursion in the castle and the surroundings. He prepared an excellent three-course dinner by himself and adjusted the breakfast time for us. In the morning, we saw lots of different animals (deer, peasants, blackbirds) in the forest nearby.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Lovely chateau! Very authentic. Expect creaking floorboards and lots of antiques. Had a lovely time.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The property is a fabulous small chateaux set in beautiful grounds with the bonus of a pool. The host was very welcoming and helpful,Inc booking a creperie in the village which was also superb,he gave us a drink after we returned from dinner, this we enjoyed sat in front of the chateaux The breakfast was set in a lovely dining room, the ambience of the whole building made us feel special,we would like to return and explore the area
10.0 Excellent
Pros: I didn't think this was going to be an impressive place but although it doesn't look grand, it has a lot of character and the land area of the property is very extensive, and includes other homes.
Cons: The long private road into the property has far too many potholes, so take it very carefully.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: A unique experience, somewhat surreal, and certainly memorable. Follow the eccentric yet warmhearted directions provided by Louis (and expect your car to look like it's been on safari) and you won't get lost. The chateau, more like a manor house, is a family home full of memories and memorabilia. Bit like a time warp. It was over 30 degrees so good to have a pool.. Breakfast was included which is unusual in France, but then you couldn't just pop into town for a coffee and croissant....some have said they thought it shabby. But what do you expect? It is an old house that has seen life, rather like the owner! The photos are far more manicured than it actually is.
Cons: Make contingency plans for dinner. Nearest town is Daon, where the one restaurant on the Mayenne River was fully booked. But we had brought supplies from supermarket earlier, so had a picnic in the grounds of the chateau.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: The property and the host were a welcome surprise and although the property was showing its age is places the overall ambiance was amazing, the host was a delight and extremely accommodating. We will be returning.
Cons: The breakfast was very minimal and lacked options.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: A wonderful location and a beautiful house
