The owners are very helpful and knowledgeable about the town. They are very hospitable, you feel like you are in a friends home. The breakfast is all you could ask for. I highly recommend this guesthouse.
charm and character, friendly, helpful owner, good breakfast
A charming old house on a narrow cobblestoned laneway. Very friendly and helpful staff.
the staff gave us good advices about the restaurants (the food was great!!) and about the things to visit! excellent!
The friendliness of the people
The guesthouse is lovely and beautiful, very cosy and comfortable, shared bath for only 2 rooms with extra wc, heating in rooms and air condirioning in bathroom, everything is clean, decorated in a special way, to correspond to the uniquie athmosphere of this old town. The hostess is very kind and helpful, ready to give all the information needed: where to eat, what to see, where to go for fado, and everything in english:) The breakfast is very tasty, there is a variety of options, from traditional (boiled eggs, cereal, bread and butter) to local (cheese, jam, fruits) and vegetarian (soya milk and yoghurt)
great location and very friendly staff, excellent breakfast
The staff is simply great. By the time we left we felt badly about leaving our new friends! And the breakfasts are excellent. no
The guesthouse is well placed in the old part of the city, and overall it is quiet. The owner is friendly and very helpful, providing lots of information on where to go/what to see. Instructions and map provided in advance of stay on where to park. TV has loads of stations, including many English language ones. The orange juice was indeed fresh. Bread did not seem as fresh as the orange juice. Room comfort is moderate - pillows quite lumpy, towels a bit rough, decor slightly tatty in places, the shower in the bathroom of one of our two rooms was cramped and a strange shape. Not the best value stay in Portugal.
The hotel is wonderful: my room was inside the old palace, which helped to dazzke us a bit.
A great location adjacent to the Serra da Estrela and with a really interesting history. The bar was advertised as open and wasn't; the restaurant was basically very good but the first course was served up lukewarm on red hot plates and the wine wasn't quite up to standard
comfortable room, beautiful hike nearby, great restaurant in town nearby
even though it was not in coimbra it was in a much nicer town ( Lousa). We were actually happy to be there rather than Coimbra.
beautiful room and facilities. use of computers in lobby very helpful. excellent breakfast the air conditioning not working in our room. took them all day to try to fix it and finally change our room. customer service could have been better
The staff were helpful. Facility was clean and comfortable. I would give it my best recommendation!
Great personel, great place.
What was not to like! The hotel was wonderful. The breadfast and dinners were excellent. The staff was friendly, efficent and all apoke English. The room and both were wonderful, modern, clean and tastefully done. We enjoyed everything the hotel had to offer. Breakfast and dinner were both first rate. The hotel staff was friendly, efficent and all spoke English. The room was tastefully decorated. Great place. No changes need to be made
Breakfast was very good and staff was friendly
Super hotel. Great service. The castle on the hill near by was a wonderful walk in the park. A good value. Hey, we just liked this hotel. No negatives
Very friendly ,helfull ,english speaking staff.Prices of the bar.Central location.Godd price. cleanliness of the room -the sheets were changed ,but hoovering and bathroom cleaning was not the best. One day the room was not serviced.I stayed in the room facing the main street -the trafic noise was vey bad-couldnt keep window open.Hot in the room.
Location No parking for free
You can park your car in the garage, the hotel is as well easy accessible (no small streets). Location is central to start your walking sightseeing tour. No fridge in the room.
Closeness to train and bus stations. Good selection of places to eat at all price ranges. Easy access to most attractions. Beautiful views. Nice to have a reasonable resturant on site. Smoking rooms are a good idea. No complaints
The location of the hotel very close to the city center.
The staff was very helpful, always nice. The breakfast was great, lots of different cereals and hot food. The whole experience was very pleasant. The bathtub didn't have any antiderrapant device, and in my opinion, it should have, because we were staying in the handicapped room. Also, I think the parking fare should be included in the room price.
The hotels decoration and the breakfast. The location. Probably the worst part of Coimbra.
The best breakfast!
opened in april 2010 so very clean rooms and good location by river.excellent check in staff. good evening meal breakfast food left uncovered , and waiting staff indifferent ( changing broken heatbulb without moving bacon and eggs etc under it!) signage directions to hotel should be more obvious from approach roundabout
I loved the staff. They were incredibly helpful and knowledgable about the area. The location is fabulous. A short walk to all the hot spots. I thought the room was clean and nice. It was quiet on our street. My one problem with the place was that the walls seemed thin between the rooms. We heard our neighbor watching tv until about 4am. I managed to sleep through most of it but my wife was kept up.
The hotel is modern and nice They didn't have parking, I didn't have a place to park and it was heavily raining, I . They have parking for 8 Euro per night .
The front desk staff were very friendly and helpful. The food was well presented and prepared. I was happy with their knowledge of English. The parkade needs exit signs.
Nice, big room Obviously, this is a new hotel and needs fine-tuning. There was too little staff to help out at the reception, there are too little elevators, the parking garage is too narrow to park comfortably and is reasonably expensive given the not-too-central location of the hotel. Rooms are big, but the colors chosen are slightly depressing.
Excllent Address hard to find
Pools, gym, steam room were all fantastic! The pillows were either too big or too small! Small detail but would greatly improve stay!
Good location, beautiful rooms, modern shower cubicle 1.the smell in the room (may be from cleaning reagent 2 Windows opened to the street, the noise from the street
Alentejana is a small, homy guesthouse. The staff is friendly and helpfull. The breakfest is not special, but still ok. The 'Superior' room is big and is furnished nice. It is 20 minutes firm 'climbing' from the city center, there are several alternative hotels in city center for the same price.
The room was well maintained and clean and the house was quiet. The breakfast included fresh fruit. There is no elevator and there is limited staff to assist with luggage. The room was quite small and the shower was inconvenient to use. The locaction requires taking a taxi or a long bus ride from downtown.
The hotel is lovely, quaint in the Portuguese style. We stayed in a superior room, lovely room and fab bathroom! The staff were very friendly, helpful and efficient. No!
very nice and helpful staff, very nice, cosy and charming place to stay
Great value for your money.
The greatest value of the hotel is its location - 5 minutes from train station on foot and very near the centre of the city.
The staff was excellent and the breakfasts were very good.
Location, clean, big space internet connection is terrible
Central location The bathroom was quite dirty
This hotel is about as much as you can get for the 3 star hotel. Very clean, excellent breakfast and service, very friendly staff, location near historical center, bus and train station... Just great!!
The staff was very helpful. Parking is right next door. Breakfast is good. Nice size bathroom. It was difficult to find. I used the navigator from there website and it brought us no where close to the hotel.
Size of room and excellent breakfast Not a complaint just a suggestion for tea/coffee making facilities in the room
The hotel was lovely, 3min walk into the centre, lots of nice restaurants close to the hotel. We were given a choice of rooms, the one we chose had a lovely balcony looking over to the town on the hill. Marco on reception was just lovely and always cheerful, polite and very helpful with advice on what to see and where to eat. There was a safe on site parking facility. The parking wasn't free for guests. No other problems at all it was a lovely place.
Nice 3 star. Clean. Central area.
The hotel has a good location in the city of Coimbra, just outside the historic centre. The hotel is old, but it is clean, has all you need for one night and offers a good price/quality.
Close to the railway station and the city centre.
Central location for sightseeing Modest facilities; hard beds, that gave my wife a back pain for a number of days. Skimpy breakfast selections.
central situation i din't like, at all, that the images of the room at booking.com din't correspond the one they gave, and the room was not good at all (attending the price )
Staff were helpful and informative and the room was very quiet, great location just near the railway station. Plenty of places to eat nearby.
Middle of Coimbra next to train sation Rooms too small
The hotel is very conveniently located next to the station - but quiet as there are very few trains and only local ones. Overall nothing exceptional, but good value for money and well situated.
The staff was extremely kind!
Friendly reception staff helping with parking etc. No workspace (for setting up laptop) in room
centrally placed for city. family room was usefull breakfast was basic
Elegant breakfast room and wonderful view of the river.
Location Loud music until 3-4am from two neighboring night clubs! We were on the 5th floor with close windows and still couldn't sleep. Older receptions staff required paperwork. No other hotels asked me for one.
The decor, the friendliness of the staff.
We had a corner room with a fantastic view. It was just a few steps away from the train station. The building itself is beautiful and is located right in front of the river.
The original fixtures and fittings from when the hotel was built are still in place and give the building an old-world charm and (slightly faded) glamour.
It was a convenient location from which to explore Coimbra.
Well located. Old fashion of the room with its pro and cons.
Perfect location in the middle of the city - close to railway station Coimbra A. Internet only in the lobby and on 1st floor (wireless)
We liked the location and the public areas of the hotel. The hotel must have been a gem in its hayday. Today, however, it is in need of a drastic overhaul. The rooms and hallways are dingy and warn. With a little bit of work it could be a wonderful place to stay. They do not have parking so we had to use a public lot across the street and had to refill the parking meter every few hours.
It was very shabby, old and smelly. We had no hot water in our shower.
The location, the view of the river, the antic furnitures The old carpet in the room
Friendly and service minded staff. Dated rooms with Ac not functioning. We had a room at the front and was very noisy with the city traffic. The rest of the familiy had a room a the back and that was ok.
the hotels relaxing atmosphere
Very good hotel and staff with excellent buffet meals pillows
Staff was helpful Poor maintenance generally
The valet parking and ease of use. Sadly no internet At the discount price
large room/bath, reasonably clean and quiet, firm bed, good value for money reception friendly, but rather chaotic (trying to do three things at once); room rather dark and worn out (old carpet, etc); chair old and sagging; not so much ventilation; no electric outlet - need to unplug lamp to charge phone! breakfast room too crowded (nothing horribly bad, just lots of minor things)
The employee who parked the car was very helpfull. The reception answered all our questions. After checking out, I could leave my car untill late in the afternoon. Breakfast is not included but there is a nice little restaurant across the street.
Good staff Traffic noise all night
Excellent location, room was very clean and roomy. The plasma screen tv with acces to new released moves was a great bonus for nights to stay in. Great Faciities!! Loved staying there and would definately go back again.
Perfect interior; very good breakfast; location close to the city centre. There internet access in the lobby was out-of-order
Great breakfast, clean rooms.
It was one of the nicer hotels in Coimbra High internet charges. Staff reluctant or unable to provide specific information about facilities in the area
The hotel was in a poor position for the town, and it was our experience that the staff did not know the best places to visit in the town, but tried
a great location for a visit to Coimbra - breakfast was excellent and room very spacious and in extremely good decorative order,.
Very nice and comfortalbe room.
Location was quite nice Could replace old blanket with a newer one or even better, with an edredon. It would not hurt to have paper tissue available like most hotels. With the flu seasom peaking with would be nice to have it.
The location was a little bit far from the central, no free WiFi
The dining room. The menu was extensive and varied, the food itself was excellent and the staff very efficient.
Very large hotel. Location is ok, however lots of business people stay there so would not recommend it for tourists who want to have a relaxed breakfast in the morning.
The Tryp Coimbra is definitely representative of the Sol Melia chain. A well balanced combination of luxury and fair price. The room was comfortable, very clean and well setup. Due to a confusion, we were initially assigned a room (a group of three adults) that had only two beds. The situation was immediately rectified without us having to return to the front desk. The staff was professional, friendly and capable, reflexive of the level one would expect from a hotel of this level. Only drawback I should warn is that a car or taxi is a must due to the location (I believe public transportation is also an alternative but not practical) if considering sightseeing places such as the university, city center, botanical garden, etc. Although it is not the hotel's fault, the location is not strategic for visiting Coimbra since one must have a car to get around from such location (in google maps it looks closer but because of the topography of Coimbra it is not in a location one would consider just walking from). However, the location is quite peaceful, safe and more PLEASENT than other hotels closer to the city center.
Good hotel. All declared services are provided. Nothing special to add.
Well located in old town. Quiet. Decent room at good price - quality.
The breakfast. The room was cold all night. I've warned the reception for this and they told me that the problem is going to be solved, but the room continued cold.
Positive: clean, near to the centre of Coimbra, after checking out the parking place was still available (for free)
Service of the Reception Staff was excellent, they could not do enough to make you4r stay pleasant. Location is great walking to the old centre of Coimbra Internet for the guests was not working, and as it was a long weekend it could not be attended to. I was however able to use the staff computer to attend to my urgent business emails
Park garage.Location (15 min walk to city centre).
We only stayed one night but we thought that this hotel was excellent for our needs
The location was a 15 minute walk to the center of the city. It was a modern building with a large comfortable room with all new facilities. Large flat screen TV with cable channels. The breakfast was nice. The room was too hoteven with the heat off. Did not like the walk about to the hotel from the city center at night. They had underground parking which was convenient but they charged 5 euro a day and the lot was empty.
Parking space under the hotel. Good size room. Directions on how to find it. Complex road system in this town with no opportunities to turn back.
Decent city hotel, but nothing great really stands out. Good base for walking tours of the city. Tricky automobile access, offset by well-organized valet parking.
Good breakfast and excellent location. Bathroom was not very comfortable (shower too tied and hairdryer too weak)
very central to train and old town. would stay again. upstairs bar area outside could do with upgrade.
The location was good. My room was spacious and very comfortable. The bar seemed more like a private club.
The hotel is well located, has confortable rooms and serves a good breakfast. Diet products at breakfast.
room was too hot
The Parking Valet was great and a nice location.
I stayed there three nights, staff is very friendly specially the guy who received me in the evening 7 Nov 2010, they spoke with me in English and in French as well. They make me feel like at home and take care of me nicely. Hotel is at good location, just near to a train station Coimbra-A. Many restaurants of different kinds are just at one minute walk. University of Coimbra is round about at 15-20 minutes walk up to nearby hill. Hotel services are very good for me like, television, heater+AC, telephone, free WiFi, buffet break fast etc.Hotel is very clean. I really enjoyed my stay there and i think it was a good choice as compared to the price and services offered. just one bit problem for me was that my room was near to a road but when i closed the windows there was no noise.
Its position - we were first time tourists in Portugal and could walk to all the city's features. Parking service the best we experienced in our 3 weeks trip. The parking service - the best we experienced during our 3 weeks in Portugal
Very friendly service, very clean and comfortable room, nice location.
The extremely warm welcome by the hosts, the picturesque setting of the guest house.
Staff very helpful and kind. Very quiet for a good rest. Breakfast was delicious.
Welcoming warm hosts, authentic rural setting near to small town. Opportunity to have talks with owners which personalized experienced.
Charming rural hotel, with very friendly atmosphere, some 20 km from Coimbra. Car park. Not so easy to find, have a location map with you (eg google maps, Viamichelin) and only very small sign at the house and the park at the backside.
The openmindness since you feel like you are in your own home. The relaxation with the swimming pool and the pingpong table. Very serviceminded staff. The atmosphere is great, with the nice garden and the chikens around :)Breakfast was very nice too. It was somehow complicated to get there.
Owners of the place were very friendly and really did more than we expected. The breakfast was excellence, the room - very beautiful and clean. I would really recommend this place to anyone.
This was a beautiful old hotel and the owners were really lovely people. The rooms were spacious, comfortable and furnished in a traditional style. Continental breakfast was nice with lots of home made jams and marmalade. Weather was not good enough to use the pool but it looked very inviting. Due to the volcano we had to stay some extra nights and they ciould not have done enough for us and did our washing! The location is good with the town of Lousa only about a 5 min drive with restaurants, shops etc. This small B&B is well worth a visit and we would certainly stay there again if we were in the area. Our lovely old bed creaked every time you turned over!
clean spacious room, good breakfast, heating switched on when it got cold. hard mattress, blankets need laundering, evening meal much too expensive. No internet or phone in room.
The hostel and a room were clean and newly furnished. The bed was comfortable and rather long. The breakfast was simple but tasty and there was always plenty of food. The terrace on the location is a very nice addition, if you want to relax. We received a room at the top level. The room has only one small window which could be opened. It was a reason that in the room was hot. The area was rather noisy at night.
