Pros: Absolutely wonderful hotel right in the heart of the city. Staff was really helpful - always asking about how they can help. Strongly recommend.
Pros: Oberoi are very attentive to the small things and making you comfortable. One concierge, Mr. Rahan, was really on the ball for outings and ideas. Staff were courteous and smiling. I used the Spa facilities each evening for the steam room and the ladies were lovely.
Cons: On checkout, I didn't appreciate being held for 30 minutes for a 8,600 rupee dinner charge that was not mine ($160) during a time of day when I was heading off for a boat ride and not even in the hotel. The delay caused me to miss the check in time for my flight. I had to book new tickets home that cost $300 to fly via Delhi instead of Direct. Secondly, I didn't appreciate being lied to by a concierge who said a yellow taxi would refuse to take me to my boat launch. He assured me the hotel car was only a small amount more, but failed to tell me 465 rupees more. I grabbed an uber on the way back from the help of an India family for 65 rupees, who assured me taxis, Ubers and Olas would take me everywhere. For me it is the principle of being lied to.
Pros: The property is very well maintained, true to it's heritage!
Hospitality was great and so were all the services.

The staff also went out of their way to order medicine as I had an upset stomach. Everything was very clean and housekeeping did a fantastic job
Cons: I thought the restaurants were on the expensive side and took a long time to order. Also the internet service is not free which is kind of rare these days although it was offset by the access provided at the kiosk.

Set on 6.5 acres of land, the 233 rooms business hotel, includes 12 suites and 1 Presidential Suite. These contemporary designed rooms have luxurious bathrooms with separate step down bath and rain shower.
Pros: Incredible service by the staff. Cannot stress how nice everyone was, and how clean/well maintained the place seemed.
Cons: Definitely didn't feel like a five star hotel, as a lot of the little touches just weren't there. Felt like I stepped back ten years in what hotels are supposed to be like. Like, why is there no free wifi? Instead, you have to log in to a special network and create your own account and password (huh?) and then you are instructed to either use a slow speed (can only check email, can't surf the web comfortably or watch videos or read social media kind of slow) or pay extra to get "high speed" internet access. Also, man, the building itself does not do it any favors. You pull up in a cab and think... really? This is a five star hotel? An ugly building with an uncleaned "Gateway" lettering on the side?

Pros: The hotel is very well maintained and modern and is very well located. My initial reaction to the hotel was very positive. I hired a car and driver for a trip to a place that is 133 km from Kolkata. Both the car and the driver were excellent.
Cons: I told friends in India that I paid Rs 30 per km for the trip mentioned above. They were appalled by how much I overpaid. Later I verified on the web that the going rate is a max of Re 20 per km. Overall I was over-billed by nearly 5000 Rs ($80).
