Location and views were good, but parking was a bit tight. long walk to rooms. - path was beautiful but not very well maintained.
beatiful, quiet location with superb view; great food; nice, helpful staff, good value for your money no fresh little soaps everyday
walking, eating! their lovely meals, enjoying the wonderful scenery from inside and out Nothing
The receptionist/waiter (the near sighted one) was extremely friendly. The booking via Booking.com was not registered / arrived at the hotel. After booking with booking.com, it is wish to check the reservation. It worked out fine, but for the same token it would have been full.
Staff was fabulous and the surroundings were beautiful. Food served there was good as well. VERY, VERY hard to find. Need better markings to get there. Also, no air conditioning and was warned not to open the windows due to mosquitos, thus, did not get a good night's sleep, very miserable.
We loved the location and the view of the mountain from our cosy wooden chalet room. The restaurant had lovely views too and the food for breakfast and dinner was good quality and well presented. The 'welcome' was unfriendly and unwelcoming.
The check in process, the overall conditions of the room and the hotel, the room itself was very nice, had a wonderfull view and was very peacefull. In general, everything went just fine. There should have more portuguese channels available in the room.
very quiet and in the middle of nature a lot of lizards, sometimes in the room! Keep the windows closed.
The Location was excellant. Good breakfast. Very nice staff. Bathroom could have been better - small shower
What a view! Though the airport and the expressway are near, you are down the cliff and don't hear them much. All rooms face the ocean and have a view of the desert islands cliffs. The nice tile floors and furnishings evoke "classy beach house." The service is outstanding at the front desk and in the peaceful, lovely restaurant.
Professional staff and still naturally pleasent, excellent service, clean rooms. Delicious food in the restaurant. Calm place and relaxing environment (proximity of the airport absoultely not a problem). Definitely great value for money. Some people might find bothersome the fact that some rooms are located on the ground floor.Car is a must if you want to spend more days.
Situated in peaceful, relaxing enviroment despite it being so close to the airport.Noise from airport traffic almost non existent. Extremely friendly, happy staff. Excellent food and accomadation. We like everything about this hotel and will not hesitate to recommend it to family and friends. No
This was a lovely hotel. Beautiful rooms, friendly staff and lovely service. I would highly recommend. In contrast to our booking at Quinta Da Penha De Franca everything was as promised on the booking.com website.
A very good hotel (as well as the restaurant), with a beautiful view, and extremely silent: even if it is really closed to the airport, You can't hear a sole plane! Big rooms and very friendly staff. Remember to rent a car: You can go only in Santa Cruz by foot, or use taxis (60€ a return trip to Funchal).
Simply top class, very peaceful
beautiful location, never heard an aeroplane at all, very attentive staff. Also very fair cancellation fee as friends missed connection flight out and had to fly over to Madeira early next morning. Thank you.
Nice location on the seaside with a beautiful sea view. Very comfortable and large rooms. Very relaxing and quite. Good price. Close to the airport. Funchal is a 20 minutes by car.
Beautiful location, very quiet, good snorkelling by the sea level pool, all staff efficient, friendly and informative.
Nice location on the seaside with a beautiful sea view. Very comfortable and large rooms. Very relaxing and quite. Good price. Close to the airport. Funchal is a 20 minutes by car.
Very nice small hotel, beautiful rooms all with sea view. Close to the airport and via rapida (you need a car, but in all cases a car is recommended to discover Madeira) and very quiet. Only the pool area is a little bit noisy, elsewhere you'll only hear the sea. The service is wonderful, very individual and custom-tailored. The restaurant is of highest standard at reasonable price. We really enjoyed our short stay. A perfect place to relax, a delightful experience. Strongly recommended!
Good location and value for money
Huge room, free wifi by madeira government, decent breakfast, nice and spacious loby and dining area, beachfront. All for 40 eur including taxes at booking.com I guess because its off season. Gym includes one dieing running machine and is in heated swimmingpool area . But outside there's a good strech of oceanside jogging path.
Very large, modern room. Good location and an indoor swimming pool. Nice price for this type of accommodation. It took a while before the receptionist showed up. Sauna wasn't working.
Poor quality of breakfast.
Excellent atmosphere, friendly staff, good food (not excellent), Mousquito net was not functional
Quiet location, big rooms. Very basic breakfast, but OK for the price.
Just one night, at an evening meal when only 3 tables were being occupied, the service was very slow. It took 1.5 hours to have a 2 course meal!
Near the airport and well located to explore the east and north-east of Madeira. Very nice building. Comfortable rooms with free wi-fi access. Good quality of breakfast buffet and dinner. Easy to find following the directions to the golf course. Good value for money
.close to the air port and nice place on the mountain
Food was good value in the restaurant, but the service a bit hit and miss. The room was large and well appointed. Staff were helpful. The lounge was lovely. Surpisingly little ground to enjoy. Some carpets looked like they needed a good shampooing. There was a small area of mould/peeling paint in above our shower.
Friendly, efficient staff. Comfortable room. Very good dinner. Tea and coffee facilities in the room. Free wifi. Good location for local countryside, nature and walks. None
The Health Club is very good, wonderful massage. Worth trying. Closeness to the airport is definitely a plus. The air conditioning in the bedroom was not working properly.
We found the whole atmosphere to be good. We liked the restaurant staff greeting us and remembering our names and room numbers. My partner has a mushroom allergy and the staff made a point to tell us, unasked, daily, which food included these. The chambermaid was so efficient as to be unbelievable. The food was good considering the numbers catered for. We did speak to one German guest and was surprised that he did not rate the hotel highly. We were thoroughly pleased with the whole experience and would use the hotel again without hesitation and would certainly recommend it to others. We are a friendly couple and perhaps the staff reflected this. No,No,No. Perhaps the hotel could approach the rather surly local taxi drivers.
superb breakfast. Hot coffee even !!!
wonderful views of the sea, clean, well equipped rooms, air conditioned, excellent outside pool, breakast fresh fruit salads. Good internet connection and you can book shorter times in your room i.e 1hr for €3, staff very courtious and friendly. Not a fan of buffet dinners every night and there's not much else locally for eating out in the evening. No evening entertainment but this could be as it was end of Sept that we went.
The location in a small village. New construction. Beautifully appointed and very comfortable. Price was an excellent value. no
Simpathy of hotel staff. Lacation close to see side Everithing was paied. To go to the spa, you had to pay, to acess the internet you had to pay. Other hotels in the area are the same price and all is included. As I am traveling in business, unless the hotel chances policy, mainly as internet acess concerns, I will never stay there again.
Good seaside location close to cafe,s and bars, Lack of entertainment during the evenings
Very friendly staff. Immaculate clean room. Good food and excellent breakfast.
A beautiful relaxing hotel. Couldn't fault anything. Would definitely go back again.
Your best asset is your staff. They were unfailingly polite, helpful and friendly. Everything I asked for was obtained. Nothing was too much trouble for them, even to the extent that the receptionist telephoned a number of shops to find something I needed. There was nothing not to like. We have been before and we will come again. Some may criticise the occasional airplane flyover but this was no bother to us.
great location, next to the beach and close to the town centre. Good views and nice pool. Used by package holiday tour operators. Not much sound proofing, rooms could be noisy.
cheap, quite good breakfast loud, could hear everything from the neighbours, woke up from planes starting/landing at the nearby airport
the view, breakfast
It is very close to the airport, so that one can take a very late airplane to Funchal.
I likes the sea view from my room. The room was cleaned regularly and the facilities were good although basic. The location of the hotel was excellent and we could easily travel around. If the rooms had air conditioning system it would be better because at nights it got hot and the sound of the waves was a problem for sleeping!
central location in Machico, close to airport lacking insulation of noise from surrounding rooms
The views of Machico are very pretty. There is enough choice of restaurants within walking distance of the hotel serving local food. The staff were very efficient and friendly. Although the room looked clean it certainly didn't smell so. We had booked for 2 weeks but left after 5 days as we could no longer put up with the drain smells coming up the pipes. I even bought scented candles and liquid detergents to pour down the drains to try and disguise the smell to no avail, we then decided to leave the hotel. Your website says the hotel was recently refurbished but I think they forgot to renew their drainage system! Also, the cleaners don't seem to realise that although they're working, guests are there on holiday trying to have a rest, they seemed to enjoy having loud chats to each other accross the corridors in front of our room doors nice and early in the morning.
What I liked mostly during my short stay in this hotel: the views. This hotel is designed to treat the visitors on some great views anywhere you are (the rooms, the restaurant, even the glass elevator offers great views!)
1) Enjoyed alive music in one of the evening in the hotel hall. 2) Close to the hotel was the peace of sandy beach..3) Close to the airport. The windows shall be cleaned more often - it looks really dirty:(
Everything very good, good value for money, good and comfortable rooms. It is a bit of a shame that for breakfast they provide with canned fruit instead of fresh fruit - particulary in an island like Madeira!!!
Facilities for children, excellent rooms and suite, good restaurant. Rooms were not ready at arrival (13.00)
quiet setting/location heated pool was very cold
Just about everything.
Friendly English speaking staff. Very good restaurant. There was neither a table nor a chair in the room. The bed was more for one man than for a couple.
The quiet location - waking up to dogs across the valley and the chickens next door !
This is a great place to stay for those who can tear themselves away from the mecca that is Funchal and wish to spend time in the quieter and, in my opinion, more picturesque north side of the island. The hotel is flawless. The rooms are great, the staff excellent, and breakfast and evening meals highly recommended. The only thing I would say about staying here is that you really do need a hire car, or at the very least, access to taxis or guided tours to make the most of your stay.
The facilities were good, and we were very comfortable there. Most staff were at least very pleasant and levels of English speaking were helpful. We wished our room had had tea and coffee making facilities. Also the mountain setting was lovely, but it was often much cooler than on the other side of the island (Funchal).
Cleanliness, decor, relaxed quiet atmosphere, pleasant discreet owner. Access was a little difficult - steep and initially narrow lane requires care.
Peaceful, great views, very amenable and accommodating friendly owner, ample continental-style breakfast bar with gorgeous home made cakes and jams, the pool, overall ambience, free internet and self-service (trust) bar. though we have firm orthopaedic mattress at home these were very firm - and we would have preferred a double bed. some noise from adjoining rooms at night.
Hotel has been totally refurbished and has new owners. We were one of the first couples to stay. Only 2 of the 12 rooms occupied. Staff v helpful - we ate dinner in the restaurant alone - cooked by the cook - excellent home grown avocados, rabbit and dessert. Beautiful gardens - many free silver bananas. Very restful location - ideal contrast to Funchal No complaints about hotel but it is a long way from Ponta Del Sol and really is a hotel rural. Suited us ideally but you could not walk to restaurants nearby if you wanted.
Meals cooked using local produce. Restaurant staff were very friendly. The bedroom was very comfortable As it was out of season there was very limited choice in the restaurant, the lounge area was cold, and we were asked to eat at 7.00 pm. We were also asked for payment, in cash if possible, on arrival. It was 5km from the main road up a very steep hill.
The original features of the quinta and the peaceful relaxing surroundings It did require a car to get to it
Everything was great. What a stunning location, wonderful views in every direction. The staff could not do enough to make our stay special, including cooking what we asked to be prepared as a special meal. there is a wonderful local bar next door that serves great, if lethal, ponchas. there are great levada walks within a few minutes walking distance, the one to the east leads to a second levada that is now unused but retains a superb and spectacular path. It was one of the best levada walks out of the 12 we completed on the holiday. We long to return and enjoy the hotel, room 3 especially, and do more local walking. there are other great restaurants in nearby Ponta do Sol.
The hotel itself is a beautiful building in a fantastic setting. Not being too big you get good, friendly personal service from the staff. The meals were excellent with most of the food being grown and sourced locally (i.e. on the ewstate). Although in a beautiful setting, access via car (which is really needed due to the position on a steep hillside) is difficult, and the car parking spaces are limited.
rooms are spacious Furniture needs an upgrade.. more modern furniture...
It is central to the area we need to be in. We visit family nearby.
Large room with good views. No parking ,had to park near the small harbour, until a storm put paid to that.
Excellent position and junior staff, very clean, good breakfast, lovely surroundings and pool looked nice No coffee or drinking water in room, no outside door key and too many notices forbidding things. Musty smell in main hallway and not easy to move around queitly in the hotel, which can disturb you.
Good location in east Madeira and not far away from the airport. Nice and helpful staff. Breakfast is good. We stayed there in November and there was a "musty" smell in the room. The hotel is a bit in the hills/clouds, so the humidity was high despite of the switched-on electrical heater. They should run central heating to avoid that. The restaurant is OK for the first time, but on the second day we wanted to go out somewhere else - the menu selection seemed quite limited.
Excellent staff and amenities. The room was spacious and clean. The restaurant could stay opne a bit longer as ir currently closes at 10pm
Convenient location Dangerous exit onto road. Room was musty and damp.
Staff attentive and very helpful - good value for money - village location - room and establishment very clean - very relaxing - good continental breakfast. Very little - facilities a little limited but it is a small establishment. Dinner in the restaurant was perfectly OK but village restaurants were slightly cheaper and better
not much-food acceptable Cold damp feeling to small rooms.Plugs removed to discourage showers!Restaurant also cold.Poorest hotel we sayed at-definitely to be avoided especially in cooler months
Pleasant gardens friendly staff Cold room damp bedding
Beautiful surrounding area, ideal for walking/hiking It would have been good to be forwrned that the swimming pool was out of action
Lovely room (superior double) with an amazing 6' bed and nice balcony. We were told that we couldn't order a sandwich at 3.15pm as the restaurant was closed. Would have been nice to enjoy our A La Carte meal away from the buffet area. Note no Tea/Coffee facitlities in room, although was a fridge.
The comfort and the quiet location of the hotel made it a peaceful weekend retreat - What we were looking for... The lack of TV channels were a little disappointing when compared to the rest of what the hotel has to offer...
We have just returned from Madeira and had a wonderful time at the White Waters. The hotel staff were very friendly and efficient, nothing was too much trouble. The standard of cleanliness was second to none. Also the Cappucinos and Cakes were excellent.
It was stunning. We had the best room in the hotel. The staff was very helpful and friendly. The Hotel is designed in a very modern style and it is very clean. It is located in the center of Machico nearby the beach. Breakfast could be more diverse though it was very plentiful
Great location and nice clean hotel. Thei nternet was not working.or could not be used.
The last 2 years I have been booking different hotels with bookings.com, but this quality/price was the best ever. Modern, new, clean and cheap. I stayed there 1 night, as the idea was to have the first night cheap and then the second night we went to a 5 star hotel (3 times more expensive) and after all me and my girlfriend liked the white waters more!
We stayed at White Waters for two nights and had a fantastic stay. The staff were friendly and very approachable. The hotel was immaculate and very modern. The food was also very good value for money. We would certainly consider staying there again and reccomending the hotel to our friends!
It's modern and clean, staff is really friendly and helpful.
Our plane was leaving very early, so we decided to spend night at Machico - 5 min by taxi or bus from the airport. As we paid only 35euro, we did not expect much of it. However, we were pleasantly surprised. Location was excellent, design of the rum was impressive and we took advantage of the lovely terrace. Girl on the reception was very nice, we appreciated her not to make as wait, as it is usually on check in, but send us to the rum, while she fixed all documents. OVerall, we loved it and would return, since Machico is way better than buzy Funchal.
Really nice designed new hotel with an excellent location in the old city center of Machico. The hotels restaurant offers nice dishes but you also can find local places to go out eating in 5 minutes walking. If you dont want to stay in busy Funchal this city and hotelis a very good choice.
No air condition, weekends quite loud according to nearby disco
staff friendly, very good value for money
friendly staff & great breakfast. Beds really comfortable! near the airport, but not too noisy
Unpretentious but convenient for the airport - our main reason for staying one night. Three Star at best Noise of water draining - from room above/adjacent?
The carnaval in Santa Cruz. Santa Cruz is a nice place to stay a couple of nights. Nice boulevard.
Location was good in the center of Santa Cruz and short distance to the airport. It was supposed to be a four star hotel, however there wasn´t air-conditioning or heating, or minibar/ any machine to get for excample water. The toilet wasn´t clean. Other four star hotels that we visited during our holiday were much more like a four star hotels.
very helpfull staff, we had to leave very early for our plane and they manage to let us have a breakfast, this was very nice.
Location in the very center of Machico, very close to the beach There are lots of restaurants right below the hotel, hence always the smell of burnt fish, meat, grease, etc. At the time of our stay there was a food festival week with music half of the night, because stage was right across the street of our room. Even with all the windows shut it was impossible to sleep. No A/C. Pre-payment required upon check-in.
Convenient for airport, small town a change from Funchal, economic rate, pleasant restaurant with local food.
The staff was very friendly, although it was sometimes difficult to communicate in English. The location is right next to the ocean, overlooking the bay of Machico. A lot of restaurants and shops around. Because of the restaurants, there was a smell of food most of the time. Noisy airco outlets around, making an annoying sound.
central and cheap noisy at night
Good breakfast, large room, bath, near seafront & restaurants, Toilet flush didn't always work, and toilet seat kept falling off
Young but very motivated and polite staff. The design of the hotel interior is different to the usual - white and a lot of wood. If you are located in one of the upper rooms you have a beautiful view on the sunset. The menu card of the restaurant is small but every evening they have some different offers - again different to the usual. If you like to get in a hotel which is in a very positive way different to what you usually get and in combination with the hotel facilities of Estalagem Ponta do Sol the Hotel Da Vila represents a very good choice. Ponta do Sol is a calm but very romantic place. At the beginning we had the impression that we were not so welcome when we were going to use the pool or sauna of the mother hotel Estalagem Ponta do Sol. But this impression changed on the third day when we got an individual transfer to the hiking start point because the hotel bus was late. Thanks again!
