Pros: The location is absolutely amazing! We saw some real elephants eating in the lake up close and personal! The staff was absolutely lovely, smily and really helpful.

Pros: Great gardens and pool which we made use of. We had drinks overlooking the lake which was lovely. We had breakfast, lunch and dinner in the restaurant over our few days there and all were really nice. A/C was good. comfortable beds and bathroom. Staff all very nice and happy. We rented bikes directly from the hotel to cycle to Polonnaruwa which was easy and simple- the road to the site was easy to follow. Would make sure to find some time just to chill at the hotel and enjoy the lakeside views to watch the world go by.
Cons: We did have quite a few little flies in our room when we came back from dinner and we aren't sure where they came from.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Pharo Lake is a very special place and we liked it most of all the SriLankan places we stayed in. It is located in a very calm and peaceful corner of land by the Bendiwewa Lake just outside Polonnaruwa city. It has a spacious recreative area with lawn, trees, chairs and tables, beach chairs and a big and clean swimming pool. Our room was also big and spacious with big windows overlooking the lake. The bathroom was clean and nice. We liked the food, the SriLankan breakfast was massive and very tasty and so were the lunch meals we ordered in the restaurant. The staff was very professional and friendly. We got the recommendation for the safari which we enjoyed. Also the tuk-tuk driver was very good. We felt very good and we spent a nice time in Pharo Lake.
Cons: The only small inconvenience was the lack of the mosquito net in the bedroom. Also the garden furniture in the recreative area could be cleaner.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Full scale comfort. Large room and huge bed and lovely bathroom. Delightful garden views. Excellent friendly staff.
Cons: Mainly a function venue, we found the residential aspect quite quiet. Not necessarily a minus.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Excellent staff and service. The manager was extremely friendly and helpful, so were the staff in the dining room. Dinner was very nice, they accomodated all our requests for early snack and late breakfast. The bonus was the variety of birds flying around. Clicked quite a few species o don't know the names of!
7.0 Good
Pros: The staff were friendly and welcoming, and very accommodating of our party (two families with three under 2s). The rooms were well appointed and clean, with good air conditioning and a big shower in the en suite. There was space for us to set up travel cots that we brought along. The setting of the rooms over-looking a lawn, which the children could run around in, and then a rice field beyond was very pleasant and generally peaceful. Though there was no bar, the hotel was able to arrange a delivery of drinks for us from a wine store.
Cons: The hotel was very quiet - possibly only one other party of guests were there, which just felt odd. The food selection was a little limited given the size of the restaurant facility, and several items on the menu were unavailable, but this probably was due to having very few guests at the time. The hotel had no bar open at the time we stayed, though this seemed to be a temporary thing. One of the party is familiar with the chain and had expected slightly more of Ruins Chaaya. We understand the owners plan to increase the number of rooms and enhance the facilities, which will clearly change much of this.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Just a short stay, but a perfect one for us with the facilities and the really attentive service. Looking forward to visit again.
7.5 Good
Pros: Big room. The food was good.
Cons: The wifi was really bad.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Best value for money. staff very friendly particularly the lady at front reception very helpful. foods are delicious.modern Large room & bathroom.
Cons: outdoor garden furnitures not well cleaned. they have to attend to that then it will full fill all.
6.7 Good
Pros: Th room was comfortable, Breakfast was good. The outside architecture of the hotel is nice. Staff is good and the service was ok.
Cons: There were very annoying little insects in the lobby and in the room, The Ac in the lobby was not on so as you enter the property you feel uncomfortable.
7.1 Good
Pros: Undoubtedly, the Ruins Chaaya Hotel in Polonnaruwa is a beautiful facility. However, when one looks around, it becomes clear that the facility has not been completed. Ruins Chaaya has a radiating ambience. The staff are friendly. The rooms are well appointed, clean and indeed comfortable although some of the furniture in the room is not quite functional. It is for these reasons that I will not hesitate to book the hotel again subject of course the hotel remaining competitive.
Cons: Overall, I have to say it was a disappointment because the facility does not meet the advertised 4-star rating. There is no swimming pool. Hotel website said the rooms had mini bar facility but a small fridge with a couple of bottles of water and soft drinks along with a couple of packets of peanuts would not be categorized as a mini bar. When I inquired about one of the activities listed on the website, only to be told that it is no longer available. In conclusion, I will say this. The hotel has the potential to become a posh facility with little additional input that will not cost the hotel an arm and a leg. If the management is interested, I will dare list some of the things that will make a huge difference. 1. Quality of food needs a big improvement. To give an example, on three consecutive nights, the room service dinner ordered had the fish way too over cooked making it like eating fibre. 2. Satellite TV – a facility stated on the website but had just a few local channels along with one Star Sports. I believe it is essential that a full Satellite TV channels are made available. For example, the PEO Titanium package from Sri Lanka Telecom. 3. Wifi – In the room, the signal strength was totally insufficient. It could not be used at all during out three nights of our stay.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: The food was tasty. Staff was very friendly
Cons: some items like water bottle was very expensive It cost 200/ for 1 litre water bottle.

Pros: A lovely guest house but the real magic of this place is the owner and host Nishanthi. She was so lovely and helpful. I rented a bike from her to see the ruins and she gave me some helpful instructions. She cooked me and the other guest an incredible dinner and talked about her garden and the herbs and vegetables. She also suggested I get the train to Colombo when I discussed my plans with her. Incredibly.... she offered to wake up and drive me to the train station at 3am! She refused to take payment saying she wanted to help. She really has built a lovely home for travellers to visit and it was an honour to stay with her! Highly recommend you stay with her at rock cascade!
8.3 Excellent
Cons: The water handle of the shower got broken when I tried to turn off the water. She told me several times thats very expensiv to replace the handle and She charge very little for the accomodation so I got the feeling to pay for the demage. The light us not very good in the room.
5.8 Okay
Pros: Nice garden to sit, quiet area, very good breakfast.
Cons: The owner took a little bit to much time with her personal themes. Very friendly, but sometimes little bit moaning. The dinner was okay, but we have eaten better in homestays. The rooms have not been very clean, but okay.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The owner is very helpful. I had some troubles to find the next hotel, she called them and came with me to be sure I was ok. I strongly recommend.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Nashanti was the most wonderful host and made our stay very special. Her cooking is the best we have tasted in Sri Lanka where she made us a delicious breakfast and dinner. We would definitely come back and stay again.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The owner is super nice. She is so nice and her meal is very delicious. The room maybe a little bit small but comfortable.
Cons: It's too quiet at night so you need to be careful when you walk.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Host is exceptionally friendly and helpful - arranged bike rental at reasonable rate. She's very knowledgeable about the area, and though I didn't join her for meals, the smells from the kitchen are fantastic. Quiet street at the center of town. Great outdoor seating area. Lovely overall.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: If you are looking for a unique local experience rather than staying at a Boutique hotel, than this is the place to stay! Nishanthi, the owner and I we had a blast! We cooked a Curry and Rotti, she showed me every step and we went trough the whole cooking procedure together. She is a really good chef with great knowledge about the Sri Lankan spices and ingredients. It was extremely interesting and so much fun at the same time. We had dinner together and we really enjoyed each others company. For the next day, Nishanthi organized a bike for me and explained me the way through the monuments. The breakfast was very tasty too. I would highly recommend this place if you want to get in touch with the people and their culture. It has been a pleasure.
Cons: This is a general thing in Sri Lanka: The wild dogs. They are everywhere in the streets and you have to be careful when walking to the "center", because some will bark and jump at you. Since I am really afraid of them, this was a tough one for me. But that's what you are facing in other places too.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: This property is clean and is in a great location - right next to the bus stop and near the ancient city. The family are really friendly and just want you to have a good stay - the mum in particular was super kind and wanting to make sure I was ok because I had injured my leg before arriving. It was so nice of her to take care of me. Because they weren’t fully booked, they also upgraded my room which was so kind. Kalum, the owner, organised a bike for me to explore the ancient city. While I didn’t go on it, he can also take you on safari.
Cons: I’m on a tight budget so I was a little shocked at the food price (but it was my fault cause I was tired and forgot to check beforehand). Saying that, you do get fed like a king.

Clay Hut Village - Polonnaruwa - Bedroom

8.6 Excellent (27 reviews)
7.5 Good
Pros: We loved the place and it’s setting. Fabulous spot with restaurant overlooking small lake with masses of wildlife. Wonderful to watch over breakfast. Lovely hosts and good local food. Right next to national park, great location.
Cons: The room is very basic, and not very clean. A mosquito net and a lick of paint would make a huge difference, however you get what you pay for and on this basis it was very good value for money.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Something different from the others. Plenty of trees around you to escape the hot sun. Variety of birds to watch while having your meals and brilliant sweet music supplied by the Frogs in the pond. Friendly staff and lovely food. If Ajith and his business partner can ad a swimming pool to the property I'm sure they wills attract more families with kids. Thanks for the lovely time Ajith and Namal
Cons: Wi Fi wasn't available and the dialog coverage 1 out of 10. but in a way it was good cause enjoyed some peace with out the mobile
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The staff were so friendly and very helpful with arranging onward transportation and bicycles to visit the city. The food was incredible, and the location is beautiful - a very quiet place surrounded by nature and right next to ancient city!
9.2 Excellent
Pros: The meal served on the terrace was superb - very memorable and the best I ate during a long trip travelling around Sri Lanka. A home-cooked banquet under the stars, with the added bonus of being cheap. The guy running this place is particularly intelligent and helpful. The rooms are characterful but nothing to write home about, and like anywhere apart from the new international hotels, you'll have to spend some time purging the space of mosquitoes, unless your intention is to just jump under the net at the end of the day. The location can't be beaten, because when you've finished at the site, you can leave through one of the far exits and you're basically back. (You still have to enter through the main gate, however, which the guidebooks don't seem to know - no big deal, the guy will get you a Tuk-Tuk for about a quid.)
7.5 Good
Pros: The family was very friendly and nice. Good air con with calm enviroment. The location is very close to Galviharaya and Polonnaruwa heritage site.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We spent one night at Clay Hut Village and wish we could have stayed longer. Lovely, lovely people, fantastic food, great garden and resident dog, cats and a goat. We had our dog with us and she was treated so warmly it was amazing.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Amazing garden and nature. Very friendly welcome and the lady couldn’t have been more helpful and smiley. Plus she made one of the best curries and breakfasts we ate on our travels in Sri Lanka. This is a great low budget place to stay and really quiet too With monkeys, deer, lizards and many birds a to keep you entertained as well
Cons: Rooms smelt a bit damp and no mosquito net but we didn’t get bitten and you are in the jungle so nothing to really complain about.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: We liked the grounds and setting and the opportunity to observe wildlife. The family who run Clay Hut village are delightful and very relaxed. They were very helpful.
Cons: We were very close to one of the gates of the Ancient City but had to buy tickets at the museum which was about 3 to 4 km away. We could exit from our nearest gate and re-enter if we had the ticket.

Pros: We had a perfect time in Polonnaruwa, thanks to the lovely family running Kumari Guest House . They were wonderful hosts. The room and bathroom are super clean and the food is superb - the breakfast and dinner exceeded all our expectations. If you stay at Kumari Guest House definitely have some homemade rice and curry. It was the best we have had in Sri Lanka. We also rented bikes which was very convenient to visit the archeological park. They were also a huge help in planning our trip to Kataragama which saved us lots of hours of traveling for the next day. If you come to Polonnaruwa, stay at Kumari Guest House.
