Great venue, but for this...
The room design is outstanding, and the beds comfy enough for a good night sleep. The swimming pool is great, with a nice view on the city. The staff is friendly and eager to help.
some little things, like finding a cigarette butt on the floor of the room (the entire hotel is smoking free), the room was supposed to be "with landmark view" but we were located on the wrong side. We could not access to the rooftop (floor 64 to 66 were closed during CNY holidays), i had difficulty to communicate with some of the staff (in English, in Chinese though, it is ok). And it is difficult to navigate with all the different elevators. At dinner, I was told there was a voucher, then that it was not possible to get it, so i had to find by myself on the Chinese official wechat account. The breakfast listed at 250RMB (included in the room rate in our case) was very common.
Good
Location
Superb
Very nice hotel, well located and with very helpful staff. Hotel and rooms have stunning views of the city. Stayed during my birthday and the hotel left a small cake in my room, very thoughtful.
Exceptional
Really liked the location.
The check-in. It took way tooo long. Maybe 30 mins.
Very nice, but it missed...

Various food was supplied, taste is good, however menu is doesn't changed. Nice Location to have sightseeing and to eat local food.
There is no ATM. There is only auto exchange money machine.

Fantastic location with multiple shopping complexes within walking distance of the hotel. Amazing views of the city, especially at night. Staff were exceptional and super helpful. Gym facilities were great as well. Would also recommend going up to the bar for drinks and views.
Key location and premium room

Amazing staff and excellent view
Shanghai is the city of total amazing stuff! What’s not to like
The room was really clean and the services were incredible. Will surely recommend for anyone to stay.
I wish they have more staff that understands English
English speaking personnel, wonderful car hire service with personal driver. A very nice spanish steakhouse on site.
Swimming pool is 4 feet deep. The way the elevators are installed makes it difficult to navigate.
Staff are exceptional
Was shocked to find pee stains on the toilet seat when I checked in, so was upgraded to a different room. Staff handled it well. The overall cleanliness can be improved upon for the rooms.
The dried up pee stains on the toilet seat...
the location is very good
the staff needs to be very good in English
Various breakfast. Very very friendly staffs. Great location
I honestly Loved the Location as I always go to the Number 9 bar and its great to be in the NANjing Rd area
The price of the Room but I think it was becase of the Import Trade show Expo happening
Amazing!! Great place
Lovely open reception area nice sized clean rooms and easy access to surrounding areas
None
Location is good. Nice rooms. Good TV channels
Expensive. Requested room overlooking walking street but was not met. AC unit was difficult to control and could not turn to less than 18 deg C. Shower had staining and some peeling caulk. Fees were super expensive.
Breakfast choice was so wide and outstanding. Location great for nice walk to the bund down the entertaining East Nanjing Rd.
good Location
Got stuck in the lift but quickly resolved and staff very appologetic
The hotel felt modern and up to date with great facilities, the room was very nice and well laid out feeling spacious and fresh, great views too. The location is also very very good, near to subway and short walk from the bund. A nice true 5 star hotel, would definitely recommend
The staff in the roof bar at floor 65 (not t66) were quite unprofessional, serving a dirty glass, not very tentative to customers and not very welcoming. This was a real shame given the amazing views from this bar. The whole bar also felt very cold in temperature! Also the breakfast price was unreasonably high so I would recommend eating out for this with a few options very local.
location is very good. you can see good night view from 44th club lounge.
some lights of our room are not available. without any messages from guest, they don't check in their regular room keeping.
Hotel is well located. That seems to be all the hotel management is relying on.
We have experienced a hotel that pays no attention at all to business travellers. Our key point regarding missing areas for business people to work was simply neglected, the only offer we got was to rent business meeting rooms and pay even more for it. Our request to turn down loud musik in the public area where we had to work were not paid attention to. We had staff walking right along the public area in rubber boots and dustbins from the kitchen. Cleaners started to work without even asking if we can move. Majority of staff with very limited English knowledge. When we wanted to move the hotel they even insisted to not letting us go withou taking the charge for all days we booked. Embarrasing and nowhere 5 star. We come from a large corporation in Europe and travel to Asia frequently; will never book this hotel again. We also dont want to hear excuses online now, the chance was at the time we stayed to clarify, not afterwards.
When I checked in they gave me a Discovery room which probably was not rented for very long time and the carpet smell was unbearable. After my complaint they changed the room to the 55th floor but there still was smell, not as strong as the 56th but still smelly. The curtains were becoming yellow ( supposed to Be white ) because too old. Inside the room could clearly see here and there that the wood and the carpet need to be replaced. Without a good restructuring I don’t think they can be ranked as 5 star hotel any longer. For the same money there are better hotels nearby People Square
The location very convenient nearby subway and Nanjing Road
The rooms and the view.
I prefer outdoor pools.
Location
Lousy set up of toilet and bath
I had a view of the north, not the river. Was nice enough though.
My room didn’t have bath towels! Have to take two slow to arrive elevators to get to my room. Room needed renovation, it felt old. Shower was too low. Room didn’t smell super fresh.
The location was very good
The shower and toilet layout and size.
The rooms were very lovely. Also like the Malin + Goetz toiletries.
The swimming pool surroundings is not 5 star. The pool staff were not helpful and rather uninterested in their jobs.
The most magnificent view in Shanghai
Nothing
Location, value for money, facility, quality beddings.
Since new restaurant is being constructed, current breakfast location is a hustle. Also quality of food not up to standard.
Great location with easy access to Nanjing Lu as well as the subway at People's Square. Friendly service overall.
Well, as mentioned a couple of times..the rooms are in dire need of renovatio but are clean. After having finished the entrance and also the breakfast area (it reopened on the day I left), the rooms will be renovated over the next 2-3 years. With respect to the fitness facilities, the machines could sue a more regular cleaning. The pool while being fantastic and huge (around 20m lanes)..it can basically only be used in the morning for swimming. Afterwards, after around lunch, there are swim classes with tons of people in the pool which make a proper workout next to impossible and really frustrating. So if you want to go for a swim..early in the morning..or later in the evening.
Poor breakfast location and breakfast not as good as it was before
Great service and location
Quite complicated to “travel” inside the building. But it’s a big hotel so I can understand
Lighting is dim. Everything looks old except for toilet
Location is everything and it has almost everything of what you wish for in choosing from a 5 stars hotel..
Need to prepare standby staff/s to handle tenants checking out, especially in the morning, because I'm sure that whoever checking out in the morning, they must be in the hurry...
Friendly and very helpful
Waiting time to catch the lift to rooms 40 upwards to long. Only two lifts available to go directly.
Location , swimming pool, clean
Expensive , food
Great stay with friendly and helpful staff. Fantastic location, right on Nanjing Shopping Street. Great views of Shanghai from room.
Layout of the room could be better. Bathroom is not very private, room was clean and comfortable, but layout, more like a 'Love Motel' than a high class hotel.
Great location. Friendly staff. All in all a very good experience. Would stay again!
Nothing!
City view was absolutely amazing! Thanks staff for breakfasts with european food)
Amazing hotel with fantastic views, very helpful staff.
The location is very convenient, its right behind Nan Jing Lu. The staffs are very kind, friendly and helpful. The room are very clean, comfortable. Housekeeping is very clean and neat.
At first arriving in the hotel was during the renovation of the main lobby, so we enter from the parking gate. And we have to change the elevator in the lobby to the room elevator. Its quite confusing and not convenient in the beginning. I have a very strong smell sense, the air freshener (perfume) in the elevator is too strong. I don't know whether they are to cover the smell of the fresh paints or anything, but for me it is too strong and makes me a little uncomfortable.
Location
Lift system Toilet in room wouldn’t flush properly No lobby lounge
No comment
Poor and limited choice. Eggs and fruit were okay. Choice of bread very few.
Crou
The lift system is complicating and unsatisfactory for a 5 star hotel. There is no lounge to relax and meet. The Copper doesn’t accommodate this need, by the croissants was cold and stale.
Professional staff and super helpful. Great location, perfect view.
This is not a newest hotel in the City.
Location, clean view , room view and bar , team at the lobby and concierge Helpful nice and able to speak English
Do not care about people with allergies even severe once selfish
1. Great proximity - walking distance / friendly Didi fare to everything; 2. Stunning skyview; 3. Great gym facilities; 4. Nearby restaurants & bars
1. Lifts - 3-4 lifts to get around to lobby, hotel room, gym, restaurants & bars (in the same building); 2. Building construction at front, making Didi pick up very difficult
The lifts. It’s not connecting and it’s confusing.
Media center stop the streaming several time The forniture on the room are old and to bifixed
location is very good for tourist. clean and comfortable room
it took so long time to check-in. we waited about 2 hours. hotel lobby and chceck-in counter is changed to ground floor, and it looked some unsettled yet. i wish it's gonna be better next time
I stayed in the Imperial Suite for one night. I’ve stayed at this hotel before, just in less expensive rooms and really enjoyed my stay and the location so that’s why I returned. Overall I had a great stay and will definitely return. Location is hard to beat, next to People’s Square and the metro as well as right on Nanjing East rd which makes for an entertaining and enjoyable walk to the Bund. The room this time had multiple views of the city in all sorts of directions, from my bathtub I could see the Bund which made for quite a spectacular bath to wind down after my long flight.
The US style outlets in the bathroom weren’t set up properly and I had to charge my toothbrush in the bedroom instead. Literally that’s my only complaint and it’s really not that big of a deal.
I stayed in this hotel many times before but not recent years. The place is very confusing to say the least and the breakfast is really bad and not as refined as before.
Specially needs to improve the quality of the breakfast
location is good , view is good
rooms are too dirty , there is major renovation going on and too much of dust , swimming pool has no changing area as its under renovation ,breakfast has no much option without egg for strict vegetarians .when i checked in i asked and bought breakfast but then never got breakfast decent option without egg.and i ended up wasting money and had to eat out .
The rooms are very tastefully decorated.great location. But they charged me 3 times.once booking.com preauthorized my entire bill when i booked.Even though it was mentioned that they will take out only 20%.Then preauthorized double the amount without informing me.Then when i was checking out they took payment 3rd time.
The fact that they preauthorized payment from my card without informing or taking permission from me.
Great hotel!! They have gluten free options for breakfast, you just need to ask for it!
Location is great. Room was big and nicely decorated
The lobby is at the 9th floor, the elevators are slow. From the lobby to the room the key-card did work several of times. The hotel is currently on renovation, so maybe they will improve the elevators.
Spacious room (junior suite). Make up table. Cool jazz bar.
Bad smell in the lobby due to renovation. Complicated with multiple elevators not going to all floors. Carpeted floor in the rooms, just feels dirty.
reception was terribly, and it took more than 30mins to get things right, and no apologies at all. breakfast was a mess that nothing was organized.
Perfect Location & breakfast.
In the bar you cannot pay with a normal Mastercard , then 2 persons guided me to the lobby to pay only 200 RMb for the last two wines before our departure , after I just payed my bill from 7000 RMB , this is very frustrating. Some very unfriendly and extremely poor English speaking personal, a pitty for such a nice hotel.
the room was cleaned but when I walked into the shower there was long black hair over the bath tub and towels were not replaced. the ironing board that I had left out on the floor after ironing was not put in the cupboard.
Very well located hotel on the Nanjing road. Very profesionnal staff.
Once the renovation will be completed the entrance of the hotel will be better
Fantastic location Wonderful breakfast, a lot of Asian food
Reception staff not enough attentive
Low wifi/renovation.
location excellent good service
the refurbishment
Location is good. It is amongst the heart of Shanghai City Centre. Close to Bund & near to people square. Rooms are also very old fashioned.
The Hotel is not convenient. There are so many lifts and need to shift from one to another to access diffferne parts of Hotel, which is not good feeling. The overall ambience does not match the Le Meridien standards.
very good breakfast big and clean room, great view location bar on 65th floor with great view (but expensive)
air condition fan on lowest level still too strong construction works in lobby need to use 2 different elevetors to get to your room... takes lots of time problems with check in, because my name was not correctly in their system... was I the first westerner with 2 given names?
Location
Staff unfriendly
Breakfast is wonderful. Full of varieties. Room space is pretty big.
Using 2 elevators to reach to the restaurant
Location is very good.
Did not like taking lift to get to reception. The lift is very slow.
Service and convenient
To many layers
Fantastic views of the Bund and Shanghai skyline from our high floor room but we paid extra for this upgrade. Convenient location. Breakfast buffet open till 1030am so good for a lazy morning. Bathroom has both a rain shower and a bathtub.
Free hotel wifi was really weak - had to rely on our roaming 4G instead. Lots of waiting for multiple elevators!
The view from our room was amazing. The location of the hotel was very central and convenient
The queue to check in was very long and took us about 20 minutes in line. Only three out of four reception check in points was manned. There should have been more staff. The key cards to the lift did not always work and we found we were going up and down before we could access out floor. Took 30 minutes for them to bring ice to our room.
The location The breakfast The pool The staff.
I liked every thing.
On the morning of March 24, 2019, he took a taxi from the entrance of the hotel to Nanjing Shiru Reserve Starbucks and I found that had left my cell phone in a taxi. I could not confirm my taxi number because I did not receive any receipt. We came back to the hotel by other taxi and asked to check the CCTV to see the taxi number we took, but we were heard that the taxi number was not shown on the hotel CCTV. Hotel staffs did not take any action. However, the staff of Nanjing Shiru Reserve Starbucks accompanied our party, went to the police station, checked the CCTV on the road, contacted the taxi company and taxi driver, and found the mobile phone again. The Starbucks part-time staff did her best to help, but hotel staffs who works the five world-class hotels just told that hotel cctv were not taken any taxi Number in front of the gate. It was disappointed.
The hotel is conveniently located at the start of the Nanjing East Pedestrian Street. So convenient to get to the metro, just minutes away. Hotel is well kept. Love the attention paid to the ambience in the lobby and hallways. Hotel staff helpful and tried their best to help from the concierge to housekeeping we had a great stay! A home away from home!
FYI, the main entrance is undergoing renovations. So our taxi driver was initially lost. Might want to put clear signages.
Location worked well for us, but do ask for guidance about where you can get across major thoroughfares- it is not obvious and can lead to unnecessarily long walks
The awkward traffic due to construction around the building
Location is fantastic , quality of room and design is great. View is outstanding. Recitation staff are nice.
Concierge service is bad no support, i asked for tourists attractions i got no help, i asked for Didi translation or taxi i got bad support. Most staff speaks no english, i called Zero to ask about iron and iron board with no understanding or help then a lady came to take my trousers which i did not want.!!!!!! But i gave it to her.
Very good location !
At the check in were some problems. Arrival at almost midnight and you just want to go to the room and sleep after a long day.
Not clean enough for the bath room
They were doing renovations and we were not told about it.
Staff could not give me room till 3.30 and for that too I had to fight.
Bed was amazing. Very comfortable. Also Ice cream for breakfast was a novelty.
Slightly over priced.
I did not like the way how the rooms are categorized! Although the room prices were quite expensive I could not get a good view from window and was accommodated on a lower level. For good view I had to carry additional cost! There were limited access to swimming pool, Wellness...not full services due to construction but the rate did not change!!! So Price and quality did not matched.
Hotel is right in the middle of the city center. You can find all you need around. Staffs are very easygoing and friendly. Always make the first step to help you.
Property is a bit ‘historic’. If you are looking for a brand new hotel building, it might not be your option.
Location
Nothing
Very good breakfast (but expensive )
Lobby is on around 11 floor . So you need to change lifts to get to your room
Location Clean Comfort Spacious Rooms
None
Very good location if you don't want to walk far along street to the bund, you can catch a sightseeing train near hotel (in the front of Nike shop) 5 Youn only and end of H&M shop and then walk to the bund in 10 mins.
Check in take time to much, And rooftop bar 65th Floor very uncomfortable because staff can not take care customers i call them 3 times waiting more than a hour.
The gym is nice. Breakfast not bad too. Location is great
Has to be the lift. Need to change lifts in order to get to breakfast for instance. Also the card scanning thing ain’t sensitive enough - sometimes it doesn’t recognise the card. Very inconvenient.
The location, the food, the room, the view, and I loved the live band on the 65th floor.
I didn’t like the bathroom/shower in the room.
I loved that hotel very much ! Even the economic rooms were amazing ! Situation is perfect ! I totally recommand that place if you stay in Shanghai !
Le Royal meridian offers, as always, a beautiful service and special facility
we somehow managed to leave our passport in the private taxi that transported us from the airport. however, due to the staff’s amazing work, they were able to track down the driver via security and CCTV footage and get the driver to come back! while all this happened, they looked after our luggage and were about to assist us at the police station! great people!
The location is suberb, staff is friendly and helpful, the breakfast and the business lounge catering is extremely good. View from the room in the 50th floor is also impressive. Rooftop bar is inviting, but pricey.
The building is rather an old one and the rooms would need to be updated soon. The spa-area is also worn out and would desperately need renovation. Also the entrance was under renovation, so entering the hotel was a bit messy at the moment.
The bed , scent , cleanness & location
The bed the view & the room design
service and quality of the overall was great. We booked 2 rooms from booking.com but one room was not able to fit 3 people and it didn't mention that one person had to sleep on the couch. So we decided to more one person to stay with another in the next room we booked.
another room out of this trip had a really old furniture and it should be changed. The elevator to excess the rooms are too confusing and took a long time to wait for.
Hotel was clean and had good views and a nice pool.
Check-in staff (Chloé) was very incompetent/lazy, refused to get another employee who spoke better english and insisted on trying to speak to my partner in Chinese. Left a very bad first impression of this hotel.
Poor checkin
Staff was discourteous , they intentionally tried to push a bad quality small room to us . When we bluntly refused to accept the small room, and told that we would not stay in this property, they offer other better room, however still on lower floor . Overall a good property but extremely bad employees attitude, pushing bad rooms 1st to customers. Not expected from such chain of hotels
