If you don’t mind being surprised with last minutes fees and charges, advantage rent a car is for you. I needed a 4 day rental for a drive to Denver, but since I lived in the same city as where I chose to rent the vehicle, I was only allowed150 miles, and everything over that would be charged 50 cents per mile unless I bought a mileage package. This place is a joke... I will only rent from hertz from here on out!!

I had a guaranteed mid-size vehicle which I needed for extensive driving while in town. I arrived and only a minivan was available. After much arguing and waiting, and more waiting, a midsize came available. It smelled like smoke and had large burn holes on the seats and across the interior. not at all what I expected.

Staff was friendly when we got to them, but note that in San Antonio, Payless doesn't have their own staff. They use AVIS staff.

The wait to get the vehicle was ridiculous, it was unclear at first that we had to go to the Avis counter because there was NO ONE at the Payless counter.

The problem first they don't have the cae size i rent online suv or similar like toyota RAV4 , but on the location (office) , don't have one intead tey to give me one mini cooper , second a lot people there and i really upset that i cancel the rent .

Will NEVER rent a car from Sixt again... mobile check in process was easy, car was nice, gave us a "free upgrade." Then, a week after we got home, they sent us a bulls--t damage claim for almost $1000 after we returned the car. Shame on us for not taking photos of the car before we left the garage, but we have NEVER had an issue with a rental car company.

Experience with the San Antonio Budget airport staff was phenomenal. They were very accommodating and helpful. It was quite inconvenient that they did not have the car I reserved available because of a conference. I'm not quite sure what the point of booking a vehicle is if it's not held for you. I had to go back 2 days in a row after pick up to check if the car I booked was available. I eventually received it, but it was a hassle and interrupted my days.

Love that there where plenty to choose from. I did not like that the vehicles did not look as though they have been cared for. I had to put air in my vehicles tires and run it thru a car wash because all the windows had a white film on them.

Cons:

Damage waiver was not added to rental as requested. Had to go back to add it. Price was higher than what was quoted; agent at counter adjusted the price. Rental did not sync with my account so I couldn’t pull up information on the app.

Hertz location on the reservation was permanently closed. There was a sign on the door directing us to another location, so we went there. That place was closed too. Had to go to a third Hertz location to pick up our car. Took 3 hours total. Tried calling Hertz but nobody on the phone knew what was going on, didn't know anything about the closed locations.

All Bad, never got car, Hertz overbooked had no cars available when I went to pick up car reservation. Hertz said they were 70 cars short when I got to Airport for car pickup. How does this happen, should be illegal! This totally ruined our vacation plans. Never again with Hertz or Kayak!

Pick up was to say the least, pathetic. I did all of the suggested check in steps ahead of arriving at the counter. Still had to stand in line for 30 minutes, 10 of which were being first in line while 3 agents stared at their screens helping no one else. Then, was told that I would have to wait another 40 minutes to get the vehicle. The only explanation given was that they were backed up in cleaning vehicles.

Staff seemed lacking in customer service. Kept trying to upsell on everything and did not seem genuine. All of the cars seemed to smell like either wet dog, cigarette smoke, or a combination of both. We ended up with a vehicle that smelled like cigarettes which made us smell like smoke our entire trip. Overall, was not enjoyable.

I liked that they were open at one in the morning. I HATED that they basically forced me to take an electric car. The man at the counter said I was lucky AVIS would rent to me at one in the morning and I could take it or leave it. I did NOT reserve electric. I was told I needed to return it fully charged or pay $35 penalty - where on earth was I supposed to do that with a flight the next day early? Terrible, terrible experience.

We waited one and a half hours in a line before we were able to get our rental. We were late getting to our engagement in Fredericksburg. The car was dirty inside and disgusting. My wife and I had to vacuum it ourselves. I won’t be renting from Avis ever again.

They initially claimed that we dropped the car off two full days after we actually did. I was able to get the charges removed, but it was quite a hassle of calling phone numbers and eventually having to drive down to my nearest Dollar location.

My vehicle was not there. Argued with an attendant for an hour about a vacant spot my vehicle was SUPPOSED to be at. Not once in 2 and a half hours did they mention you need a credit card and a $500 deposit till after I signed the agreement. Counter staff rude AF.

I called to inform them that my 11:00 p.m. arrival had been delayed for ten minutes and I expected that I would be to the counter by 11:20 p.m. The agent responded that I had not provided my flight number, so they would close at 11:00 p.m. So, I paid for a day's rental I did not receive and was left without transportation. Also, my reservation did not inquire as to my flight number, so very disappointing. If I had not paid in advance through Kayak, I would have cancelled the reservation. Therefore, I am unlikely to use Kayak in the future.

I really liked the vehicle and drive. Only let down I stopped at a restaurant in McAllen to eat and a tiny pebble hit the window and cracked the glass for which we had 2 insurances thankfully. I know this is outside the scope of this review however it was a negative conclusion to a wonderful journey.

The check in process was not great. I had priority pick up, but know one was available to assist. Henry, was great, tried to assist and was very helpful and courteous. The manager, due to check in difficulties, told me he was going credit me the priority charge and give me a discount on the rental. I thought that was very nice of him. Overall good value for the price.

Prompt service, helpful staff and really efficient and convenient on everything.

Cons:

The quality of the vehicle could have been better. The oil light was on when we recieved the car, and needed changed. The brakes weren't 100% and were grinding a bit toward the end of our trip.

Did not appreciate the surprise $300 security deposit, extra charge for having a local ID(?) and then subsequent refusal to rent me the vehicle because I had a debit card. None of this information was given ahead of time and I ended up canceling it all. Thankfully, going straight to Enterprise down the road ended up helping me get the rental I needed

no one told me where to drop off the car correctly. The signs sucked and I had to call back 3 times, put on hold numerous times. Also it took me 2 days to get a receipt. I and no proof I dropped off the car. I handed they guy the keys and was told they would email a receipt. I called up 3 times and finally was told it was taking awhile since I dropped it off a different place I picked it up that they had to have the place I picked up close the account so I can get the bill. I ended up calling the 800 number again, the drop off place and finally the pick up place to get my bill. Total of 5 phone calls just to get my receipt.
