Excellent location, decent rooms, vastly improved from ten years previous when I tried it. Reasonable entertainment, great happy hour. The fact I was charged twice for my room. Once by the booking agent Kayak/Hotels.com, and then again at the reception even though I said it had already been paid.
It was an ideal location Customer service at both check in and in the restaurant was poor, staff appeared miserable and failed to make you feel welcome. In the restaurant tables looked unclean with streaky marks on them, plates were being cleared of left overs into black bin bags at tables and it was all quite off putting. Quality of Service was very dissapointing at this hotel.
good room and entertainment
Though the room was a bit small for a Premium, the Jaccuzzi bath made up for that! I know its a hard job but, the staff could look a little bit more friendly and a tip bowl in the dining room, put Us off a bit!
juccuzzi bath the rooms we got looked like something from 1930s
I liked sitting in on the Line Dancing. I liked the view of the sea and the luxurious lobby. I also was taken by the friendly atmosphere and the staff were extremely helpful. The food was first class both the dinner and the breakfastand the resturant was awesome. I have been to many hotels in London and The Grand would top them all.
The historic building is very impressive from the outside and equally so inside the foyer with the huge staircase taking centre stage. The hotel had it's Christmas decorations up which looked beautiful. We stayed in room 640 which was within one on the towers, it has two windows with beautiful views of the beach and the town and is of a good size. The food was buffet style serve yourself with plenty of choice, soup. salad bar, hot buffet for main and various cakes, ice cream, mince pies plus cheese and crackers. The breakfast was great with fruit, toast, cereal and of course a full English available, this again was self service so worked really well for us. The general ambience of the hotel was very warm and welcoming.
I thought it stood up to its name Grand and the staff were very polite, friendly and helpful. I enjoyed every minute of my stay may it been a short one , look forward to having a longer stay.
Location of hotel. Hotel staff ar'ent really helpful at all. if you ask the restaurant staff any questions they were rude and did not seem to want to help at all. lifts in hotel also dont work.
We booked the premium room and had 1 of the 4 towers to ourselves...amazing. -lots of building work being done...over 60s only really.
Meals were good
The big bathroom Lack of car parking would discurrage me from visiting again
The friendliness and excellent sea view
evening dinner and the hotel location, and the parking arrangements Very poor breakfast self service counter, the worst we have experienced, staff failed to fulfil requests, ie. morning paper, teapot of tea a breakfast, fail to correct the bill, and failed to notice a family/guests who have their child use a potty whilst we were dining close by.The hotel have been informed.
The restaurant area and front entrance were impressive. Back entrance area is seedy, dark and the inner lobby and stairs were in need of redecoration.Noisy water pipes and floorboards, lift not working, poor menu for vegetarians. Early check-out time 11am not 12 noon.
Staff are polite and very helpfull. We wanted to eat out and they gave us a list of places and a map to follow so we could find uor way back easily. We locked our key inside and they gave us another one without saying a word. They filled our tea tray and made our bed every day.
I liked the cleanliness ,warmth and quality of this good hotel.Reception staff were nice, dining room staff were friendly and efficient. I didn't like the "no access "to the rooms until exactly 3pm on the day of arrival although the lounge area was pleasant with good quality tea and coffee while you waited.. Or the 11a.M. checkout.Breakfast was adequate.A Buffet with more choice would have been a better option ,instead it was brought to you and although hot it had been made a while..
The rooms were brilliant. The decor was really nice, modern and stylish. All the staff were really friendly and made you feel at home. the best thing was the quality of the rooms and the television in the bathroom. nothing at all. we had a brilliant and lovely time.
Location Staff were continually under pressure due to lack of experience and under-staffing. Minor complaints could not be addressed quickly.
The staff were very pleasent, the Spa was wonderful and I for one liked the creaky floorboards, they added character and charm.
Enjoyed our stay as we were attending thw war weekend The water pressure in the shower, Toliet and taps was very poor. Told the owner but no change.
Attractive layout in the most fantastic location for access to either coast or Inland. Very child friendly. Excellent food both Breakfast and evening meals. When the bar closed at 11.00pm sharp, as residents we were not able to continue our conversation and finish our drinks in a relaxed manner, as in fact we had to leave the bar and depart to our rooms via a darkened restaurant.
Food in the bar Reception understaffed, paper-based check-in/out. Breakfast could be earlier.
Very friendly, helpful staff. Service in dining room a bit slow.
Comfortable and friendly hotel. Good range and quality of food and "real" ale at reasonable price with a log fire to toast the cockles of your heart. Prepared to do early Breakfast which helped. None although the working space in the room was a little small. However there was plenty of room in the downstairs lounge.
Very friendly, helpful staff. The hotel room was beautiful and the building was fantastic to view. Nothing. Enjoyed my 2nights very much.
Hotel nice and clean, staff very friendly, food very good.
Rooms were lovely clean and you could sink your feet into the carpet. Staff always had a smile Sometimes pub music did come through the floorboards
Food was excellent
One word....Quality. Nothing of note.
The Ashburton Full House breakfast was excellent. Wash basin in bedroom leaked so had to use small hand basin in shower room.
Excellent breakfast. Parking space. Close to facilities within Scarborough. We stayed in the 'four poster' room. Unfortunately the bed was very 'saggy' - so uncomfortable. I kept rolling into the middle! The first night I was cold in bed, so we asked for an extra blanket.
The breakfast was excellent with a good number of choices. The bedroom was a bit on the small side but furnished nicely The bathroom was to a high standard but the heating in there did not work and it was really cold, we dreaded using it
friendly atmosphere, lovely breakfast, and importantly parking off road
the breakfast was excellent, the room was very comfortable and the owners were extremely helpful
The incredible breakfasts and the cleanliness of our room and the hotel itself. Also it's proximity to the beach and town centre.
Comfortable, but small room, great breakfast and friendly staff.
The breakfast was very good quality and service good also. Room was always warm. The matress on the bed dipped in the middle which made it a little uncomfortable to sleep on
too difficult to open front door. breakfast 8.30-9.30
ideal base for visiting the area
Good family run buisness, much needed when you take your kids. None
Peace, quite and comfort. A excellent breakfast. Directions on the lane to the hotel could have been more noticeable. The lateness of check in
The room was fresh and comfortable, very quiet and peaceful. I also liked the deck area outside which would be very pleasant in spring/summer. Signposting is very poor, also the reception area is inadequate and unwelcoming. As the room only had a shower and no bath, a complementary shower cap would have been appreciated.
The room was very comfortable and well furnished. The staff were very accomodating. Amazing breakfast too!!
Very comfortable room and excellent facilities. Friendly owner and staff. Made to feel very welcome.
The most comfortable bed I think I have ever slept in, friendly welcome, very good breakfast, great location....it has it all! No bad points
Excellent family friendly accomadation we liked it all
Very plesant stay, friendly and made to feel very welcome Only the weather
Excellent accomodation None
Very friendly owners and up to date and clean room. Breakfast was great and the B&B gave a very homely feeling. Thank you for a great stay!
All fine and comfortable Parking on street could be a problem at peak times.
We had a very enjoyable stay. the staff were friendly, great breakfasts and everywhere very clean. Great location
the staff were very good . made us very welcome.breakfast was brill.we had a wonderfull relaxing weekend.
Staff were very friendly, nice bathroom and good breakfast. Great location. Windows were drafty and very noisy. Unfortunate that we stayed on a very windy weekend, would probably be fine otherwise.
Overall a good place to stay Lighting in bathroom could have been brighter. Skirting board painted. A toilet roll holder would have been appreciated
we enjoyed our stay at the greno, from the moment we arrived we were made very welcome and nothing was too much trouble for the hosts. Excellent place to stay booked again already.
All the staff were great.great food clean, and in a good position. Nothing
Polite, friendly staff. Beautiful room, clean, comfortable. Lovely breakfast.
Great host. Good breakfast. Excellent location and views of the castle and the North Bay. The room we stayed in was pretty tired and the shower room was tiny for a family. It has great potential here due to the friendly host and great location but needs some investment in the fabric and finish of the building.
Stayed one night, clean and tidy, breakfast very good. The TV is very small, that said I did not go to watch tv, but if had been staying a few nights then i would have struggled to see the TV, small mounted on a wall above bunk beds.
its location, the yummy breakfast and the glass of wine I had when we got there - oh and the lovely whitel bath robes. my colleague was a bit worried by the lovely labrador as she doesn't like dogs .....
For the rate charged I would expect a full breakfast to be included. I thought that asking an extra £10 per head for a full breakfast to be mean on the part of the hotel.
Excellent hotel, very good value and the room was spotless, quiet and a very comfy bed. Staff were always there when needed and very helpful especially since I arrived soaked from a snow storm.
all the above
Very well kept family run Hotel, welcoming, friendly and accessable. Clean and excellent location. Good restaurants within a 10 minute stroll.
The location was perfect, the proprietors were friendly and helpful, and the room was clean and well presented offering very good value for money. The weather was a let down-nothing the hotel could do about that.
We were made to feel right at home from the moment we arrived. The room was very comfortable with great views over North Bay , The breakfast' s were excellent and very well prepaired,
The location of the hotel was perfect ,with a fantastic sea view, close to the sea ,town center and the castle. also the breakfast was excellent with a varied menu, would definitely recommend
Pleasant staff, good location no lifts, poor ensuite facility(very small)
everyone one was very pleasant and helpful and the breakfast was lovely
The choice at breakfast!!!!!
Very good hospitality and excellent views of the bay. My colleagues's TV didn't work.
Clean comfortable and well presented throughout Shortage of willing service staff and function room staff
Pleasent location, size of room, cleanliness n/a
We liked the "haphazard" collection of old farm buildings which gave the hotel its character. Our room was spacious and comfortable and very quiet.
great views and service no
Location Service left a little to be desired. Food well presented but badly cooked. Apparently this was due to a wedding in the afternoon???Would seek to eat elsewhere if necessary to stay again.
The bedroom and the public areas were luxurious and relaxing. A very nice atmosphere.
The hotel exceeded our expectations, the setting was delightful the staff friendly and efficient. The food is to be recommended and the chef complimented.
peaceful and scenic location, very relaxing, would definately return again to recharge batteries! helpful friendly staff. breakfast and dinner menus limited more varied choice should be avaialable, quality only average, better by the 3rd day!
The countryside setting and location which offered peace and quiet. The meals were excellent, well presented and well above average. The room was quite small and the heating was too hot which I could not adjust in the room
