Convenient to the area for exploring
Hotel position, staff, room. Evening meal was the worse we have ever had in Portugal. Metal chairs scraping on floor in breakfast room starting 6:45 am. The buffet breakfast was poor, no toast, cooked food, eggs. The fruit was tinned and the juice was a concentrate.
Exploring the Local Town of Silves and easy access to the coast
the view of silves from our window was outstanding. breakfast in the morning was one of the best we had on the trip. staff was polite but not particularly friendly
Our room had a big balcony with a nice view. The room and bathroom were clean. The breakfast was good. Some of the staff were a bit grumpy though not unfriendly. The coffee at the breakfast buffet was horrible. The room was a bit run down, and two lights (out of four) did not work.
The location (in Silves) was excellent for getting about the Algarve, and the hotel itself was very pleasant and well kept. Lovely decor, and good sized room with a balcony overlooking the town. The buffet breakfast every day had a good range of food (including fresh fruit salad, sorry Morag!), and the large circular swimming pool was great for cooling off! Our room was described as a double but should have been labelled as twin. There were 2 single beds pushed together, and made up as 2 singles aswell!. Also, the location of the hotel on the site is wrong, it's actually in Silves, just over the main bridge from the town. We spent 2 hours driving around in the dark trying to find it, so I hope this prevents someone else experiencing that!
Situation very good, views lovely Staff OK but not over attentive. Lacking atmosphere as almost empty. Some things about the rooms were tired to say the least.
The staff are all very welcoming............
the view the breakfast has been the same for four years! There is no fresh fruit, and only processed cheese and cold meats. Also, the evening meals could be more interesting.
The ;friendliness of the people who own the hotel was wonderful. They were most helpful in guiding us to the beach, Informing us of a most wonderful restaurant and answering questions. Our room was very attractive and comfortable and we especially enjoyed the large shower.
The family atmosphere and the possibility to use the kitcen: like at home! The owners are very kind and the surrounding very beautyful: a good way to see pourtoguese nature.
Being steel the bedroom doors are very noisy when people come and go late at night early in the morning.
nice location in the countryside, nice place, nice rooms, nice staff
Very friendly and helpful owners. Nice and quiet rural place, close to the most beautiful Algarve beaches. Good breakfast, possibility to use the kitchen and barbecue. Lots of midges/mosquitos in the evening and sometimes a very rotten smell for a few hours, depending on the wind direction (presumably from the river). Weak A/C forcing to leave doors open overnight and let mosquitos in.
Silence and peace
Being able to relax by the pool, then have a BBQ was great. When we were there it was full of families, so if you're after peace and quiet, this might not be for you.
The location is very peaceful and beautiful. We had a wonderful stay - it was only one night and we wished we could have stayed longer.
Far the cities, calm surroundings, clean and well designed rooms, helpful and friendly staff, excellent breakfast. Soft bed, creaking roof during all nights, quads passing close to building.
This was a very nice, very quiet, very relaxing hotel in a good location to explore the Algarve. The owners are very nice accommodating people and I would recommend this hotel to anyone (with a car) who is looking for an exceptional hotel for a relaxing few days. Great pool as well!
Hotel has a great location with easy access to Golf and beaches. The amenities are plentiful and of a high quality. Indoor and outdoor pools with a small fitness center and Jacuzzi and Sauna. Breakfast Buffet is good. The price of Internet service needs to be more competitive ..too high. The Fitness center needs more equipment.
Cliff top location, spacious public rooms, very friendly staff, well equipped kitchenette in room, good sized bathroom. Breakfast and dinner buffets both good variety and quality. Restaurant service excellent. Parking is extremely limited. Bathroom amenities were rather sparse. Price of dinner buffet higher than usual in our experience of 4 star hotels.
We got a suite instead of the booked room, which was a nice surprise.
the location was outstanding
The staff was very helpful. They did their very best to solve a problem that came up during our stay and did a great job! Not really.
Everything was exellent!staff was very friendly with kids, very helpful!the atmosphere is great!location and views are fantastic!would like to come back again!
Good and comfortable hotel, nice room, excellent pools (one of the best inside pools ever seen), very well located in a quiet area, very close to the beach. Although the chairs and umbrellas around the pool are not enough when the hotel is fully loaded, there still are a considerable number of them to be used by the guests within a very large area of grass over the sea! The hotel staff was amazing, very friendly and helpful at all times, but I would like to make a note around Marisa Costa (Pestana's Vacation Club) which was unsurpassed with us and especially with our baby, making everything for us to feel comfortable and welcome at the hotel. Between 19h30 and 21h00 the showers have a significant loss of pressure making every bath in this period a negative experience. Although parking is free to guests, they could control it better, as some guests tend to feel that their cars occupy more than one place. Breakfast was good but they failed inexplicably in terms of variety of fruit, bread and (during August week) clean dishes and coffee mugs. For a family hotel they could already have a dvd player in each room!
breckast was very good, nice staff, close to the beach
The proximty of the beach and the service from the front of house staff The Bed was very uncomftable
Lovely big, clean and comfortable room. Breakfast was excellent! It was noisy at night but that was possibly because it was during school holiday time and there were lots of children and also maybe the floor we were on?
Spacious room, fully carpeted, well furnished; low rise accommodation; beautiful gardens and cliff top location. Daily change of complimentary pool towels. Restaurant prices are much too high.
Excellent hotel in beautiful gardens, very nice staff, perfect for a resting family holiday. High standart new rooms. We were there a couple of years ago and will return for sure in the future! The Spa is wonderful. Only quite expensive. More attention should be given to room cleaning for this luxury hotel
The Vilalara is the most beautiful relaxing , peaceful and magical place I have ever stayed at. The staff are exceptional , the location is unimaginable and the peace and quiet is a tonic for life. I will visit the Vilalara many more times in the future without doubt. We have traveled extensively but this has got the be the top of our list for summer vacation. We hereby thank all the staff at Vilalara for a wonderful stay. there truly is nothing to dislike
Comfort and quietness. Should have towel service at beach
marvellous place! excellent dinner. Not so good service for price and quality of food. Improvement is needed in staff. We ordered a glass of "Morgado de Ste Catherine" and another wine was served with no explanation.
A peaceful retreat with plenty of places not to do anything...... restaurant choices on site were limited
The resort is fascinating with breathtaking views of the beach. The view overlooking the pool is spectacular. The hotel has its own private beach which is beautiful. The hotel is landscaped very well with beautiful plants and flowers. The rooms are big and spacious, and the staff is very courteous. Would certainly recommend the hotel to anyone considering visiting Faro. The hotel should have had a tea/ coffe maker in the room. For the price you charge, this is an expectation. To call for room service costs 5 euro per person which normally other similar resorts worldwide do not chanrge
Superb location, great facilties and very friendly staff
Wonderful grounds everything on site
Hotel apartment was of excellent standard, clean, regularly serviced and very comfortable. Pool area divided into three sections - one suitable for younger children and two others for adults and older children. Not all the facilities where open, for example coffee bar at the reception did not open (even though we visted at a peak holiday period). Mini market available on site however not adequately stocked. Entertainment only two nights per week.
The hotel was clean and the rooms were well maintained . the pool area was safe for children . The pool area could be improved by regular maintenance and the additional bedding was not comfortable . the quality of food was poor , we booked for 2 adults and 2 children but the room was too small for 4 and we incurred an additional charge for our second child .
We were put in a north facing apartment so never got any sun on the balcony. This was despite there being a low occupancy when we visited in April
The pools were lovely, the apartments spacious and clean and it was a lovely quiet location Lack of a choice of places to eat in the evening, no room service. View from the apartment
Very family orientated but quiet, exactly what we were looking for, very comfortable & modern facilities in a lovely location - we will return No toddler play area and the snack bar service can be very slow
Modern, spacious apartment, good sized pool area with nice facilities. Service at the poolsise snack bar was a bit slow
The pool was very nice, particularly good for kids because of the baby pool and the beach entry feature. They had activities supplied for kids at the pool which was nice for my young son. The rooms were clean and modern, although the layout of our room wasn't the best. They cleaned the room daily. The minimarket provided some basic foods which helped us avoid having to go far away for food. Relatively close to city centre of Ferragudo. Some nice views to the river. We didn't use the skyline bar, but it appeared to be a nice feature. The restaurant food wasn't very good, it was acceptable, but I wouldn't recommend it. Decent access to Portimao and other locations, but you definitely need a car. Very nice resort - not excellent.
The Monte Santo resort had only been open for one week prior to our visit so was still experiencing "start up" issues. However, this in no way spoilt our enjoyment of the holiday. Staff were very accommodating and informative. Service under the circumstances was excellent.
I loved the quality and design/layout of the apartment and resort itself and could easily have moved in and stayed there!!! The staff were delightful too. I would have liked more equipment in the gym - a cross trainer, would be good.
new and beautifully appointed Heating hard to understand . It would have been nice if there had been some tea/coffee sachets available and some detergent for the dishwasher
the view to ocean and the wonderful room nothing, all o.k.
Service and comfort. Good breakfast. Location too far from the beach. Rental car required.
Everything was of an excellent standard. A great place for families.
Dining in the resort was excellent. The indoor and outdoor pools were also very enjoyable. Nothing
The quietness We are sure it will be nice but it was so deserted it was like being on a desert island.
The resort itself was lovely. The apartments and poolside were well kept and beautiful. Our fridge, iron and central control system did not work
Wonderful resort, very luxurious.
Variety of restaurants, quality of food, amazing beach with beds and professional level of SPA. Servants in the restaurants expressed quite strong dissatisfaction if the tips were less than 10 %.
excellent service by staff, beautiful grounds, private beach & overall pleasant ambience. Good buffet breakfast Forget the bar snacks - both too expensive and very poorly prepared. The main restaurant was acceptable - just. The food was OK but not exceptional however the prices were very high. You can easily find a better dining experience outside the hotel so only go to this restaurant if you really don't want to leave the hotel surroundings.
Everything was brilliant, with the exception of below. Food was not up to a good standard, but was not overpriced.
In addition to the above, I liked the peace & tranquility & space in general, in particular the spacious grounds, gardens etc. I was disappointed with the quality of furniture on my balcony given the fact that I observed furniture of quality in similar suites where I was based, furniture on my balcony was that of a 1 or 2 star Hotel, I have already indicated my disaproval on the personal questionaire at the Hotel, I would at some stage like a report directly to me regarding the unsuitable furniture on my balcony, I stayed in 7 Oasis Parc at the Hotel.
We were impressed with the staff who were very friendly and helpful. They have a lot of repeat clientele for that reason The Hotel has a few restaurants to choose from so you can choose to dine in any one of them. We liked Arte Nautica as it is on the beach in Armacao de Pera - stunning location and brilliant fish, or you can have a snack The location isnt so great as it is out of town. If you are not mobile you will need to hire a car or take a taxi which are cheap and plentiful. The staff seemed to push their very expensive New Year dinner and there wasnt much choice. to dine elsewhere. They also naughtily put the costs of two New Years dinner on our bill when we hadnt even booked or attended the event which goes to show that behind the staff smiles there is the pound signs motive to make as much money as possible from their guests! We were not convinced the hospitality was genuine for that reason especially when the staff all repeated the same sentence - is there anything we can do for you. It seemed they attended a management school and were taught to say that
Well kept hotel and equally smart guests. Excellent food & beverage. Interior decor style needs updating.
hotel was of a very high standard and we were very well treated by the staff. not really
The variety of facilities, the high standard, the staff, and the wonderful gardens. Beds could be better. Do not like two singles pushed together to make a double or king. Need better beds.
Situation and view Noise from entertainment - far far too loud
Good location, clean, very good swiming pool ,recomended.
Lovely nice warm smiles on arrival, spoken english excellent, ease of check in especially at night time, restaurant stated to be open until 10.30pm (we arrived at 9pm but we too tired to use this). Rooms and apartment smelt of cleanliness at every stage & was very very very clean, good hot water at all times, plenty of extra blankets - lovely swimming pool, nicely appointed and well kept site. I asked for an upstairs apartment and they obliged. absolutely nothing wrong here Shower and bathroom at bit out of date by uk standards but of course we were in Portugal not the uk, so no complaints there and this is only a very small criticism - everything else there was simply fantastic and we would be overjoyed to go there again.
Size of apartment, surroundings, swimming pool, equipment: more than I've expected eg. iron with iron board, coffee machine, toster, microwae, safe, parasol, etc. All was fine. Just may be hotel's mini market could provide small packets of sugar, salt etc. for a short stay
very calm place, family place, staff was perfect.
I liked that all the appartment were two story and the lay out of the grounds excellent, each block was private and very accesable for people with mobility difficulty, the pool was beautiful. The beach was within walking distence.
quiet area and not far away from the beach
Super nice appartments! Everyting is very clean, fully equipped kitchenett, wonderful view from huge balcony to the sea and amazing sunsets. No any complaints about room and stuff. Everything is perfect Well, its around 15 min to sea, but for me it was not a big problem. 15 min to large supermarket. A bit expensive but its normal for resorts)
wonderful lady receptionist who was very helpful, large rooms, price, convenient and easy to find from main roads, near beach without being 'on' the beach everything perfect
The site was clean and the three pools were really appreciated by the kids. The bar staff were friendly and spoke good English. The 2 level apartment was spacious, clean and we appreciated the air con, washing mc, oven and dishwasher. We would definitely recommend this site and plan to use it again asap! No complaints!
access to the beach superb..loved the breakfast on the outdoor terrace Hotel is overlooking the beach. great happy hour from six till eight pm which we only discovered on the second last day! lovely long beach for walking in the morning breakfast is good great coffee handy location if you have a car as you can tour easily from here.. hotel is quiet bar closes at 12 am which is a bit too early if you are out late for dinner and would like to relax and have a drink before going to bed... make sure you get sea facing room although balcony is very small but great view
i thought the hotel was run in a quiet and very efficient way. profesional
Love the position - and the pool etc
the atmosphere. friendly staff. breakfast was excellent. ocean view from our room.
Great location, excellent facilities
Great location Older hotel. Big rooms that wasted space. Didn't have a refrigerator in the room.
Overall location of the hotel ( best in the region!!) the location of room - direct access out , view ( -1 floor) Nice breakfast, friendly staff The roomservice was poor.
It was next to the beach
The fantastic view and location
relaxing atmosphere no sky films as advertised
The traditional style and approach of the accommodation and its relaxing location. It was also very convenient for motorway and access to Western Algarve
Relaxed friendly atmosphere. Rooms very comfortable and clean. Courtyard garden and pool delightful. John and Carlos always willing to help and advise. Occasional traffic noise might be a problem if in a room fronting the village street.
The relaxed environment, cleanliness and excellent breakfast. Wonderful hotelier and staff. The limited street parking.
A house full of character. Beautiful gardens & pool. A very friendly atmosphere was created by the proprietor. He was very obliging also.
It was such a nice place
John and Carlos were very welcoming and could not do enough for us and they recommended good quality restaurants. I would recommend this hotel to anyone who is looking for that personal touch within a relaxing atmosphere.
I felt at home. Personal is very hospitable and helpful and hotel is comfortable Car is needed to visit beaches
The hotel was very welcoming and the location is conveniently central. The facilities are very good. Breakfast was excellent, and the honesty bar system a very nice touch, making it a very relaxing place to stay. There could be a little more attention to detail with the cleaning in some areas of the hotel.
Rio Arade offered us the perfect relaxing get away, peaceful and comfortable with that special touch of personal service while still being near enough to restaurants and other facilities when required. Just what we wanted. No
the kindness and attention was second to none. we were directed as to where to eat, (2 fantastic restaurants within walking distance) we got advice on where to go during our stay. we felt very welcomed and at home there. we will return for longer the next time. our thanks to John, Carlos and the staff. I was not happy parking on the street, but the car was fine.
pool and pool bar and restaurant bar service
the staff were extremely nice, great selection at the breakfast buffet, nice rooms and nice surroundings. Huge Pool and loads of sun loungers. the beds were very uncomfortable and they didn't have the room we requested and paid for available. Also the hotel is situated in a very quiet area where there are no resteruants or entertainment.
The staff are very friendly and helpful
The hotel itself is very good, with a nice entertainment area (bar, restaurant, pool,...). It has a good location since it is outside Armação de Pera and very close to the beach. The staff really needs to be renewed since they have no experience at all and are not nice as they should. The rooms are not correctly cleaned day after day, specially the bathroom.
nice clean comftable hotel having to pay to use gym etc
Very nicely specced out hotel, lots of facilities like a gym; plenty of entertainment for bored holidaymakers in the evening. The wi-fi internet access was not available on the 5th floor - we couldn't get any coverage at all and had to sit in reception to send and receive e-mails, which was a nuisance and not really good enough for a hotel that advertises availability of wi-fi access throughout the hotel.
The staff was so courteous and the proximity to the beach was great. The breakfast was fantastic!! There was not one usable electric outlet in the room or bathroom with the exception of the one used for the TV. Also, there were only 2 bedside lights for the entire hotel room. It was quite dark at night. Our housekeeper also wanted to clean our room one day at about 5pm after we had already gotten back for the day. We have a child so this was not going to work for us. Subsequently, we ran out of toilet paper and tissue and our very small trash bins were overflowing. Also, our room was also not incredibly clean when we got there. The main elevator was broken for some time one of the days.
Hotel breakfast excellent- facilities reasonable. Good location, if you enjoy walking! Very near the sea . The question of the hotel providing a two-tier price range is debatable. The question of the sea view (at extra cost needs defining specifically as our room had a view towards the sea, but the sea view was miles away!!!
Overall the service was excellent
The breakfast and the outside pool was excellent, staff were friendly. The room had 2 single beds pushed together to make a double. The Jacuzzi was cold and the turkish bath smelt of damp. The gyms facilities were also very basic
